I am stuck in Silver 5 with Ryu but having a blast. I have not been doing drive rush combos so I am going to hit practice mode for a few hours today. Thank you soooo much for posting this man.
no problem. there will be more videos like this soon. good luck on your journey and don't get discouraged! takes time to get consistent and "good" but the great thing about fighting games is that anyone can be good at it if they put in the time!
Not sure where you're at right now, but Ryu has very good raw damage outside of drive rush combos. I've been playing him like I'm playing 3rd Strike and you can definitely march up to platinum without ever doing a drive rush combo with Ryu. He's a fundamental character and rewards good fundamentals.
@@Inaluogh Thanks for this reply man! I ended up getting to Plat then I haven't played SF6 since haha! Jus too many good singleplayer games out right now
Great video dude! I'm mainly a Tekken player but I started dabbling in street fighter in 5. I have a decent guile but Ive always wanted to pick up Ryu. Was able to do almost all these with just a few minutes of practice now the hard part of incorporating them into matches
@@Novaist good luck bro! This games a lot of fun. Like I'm stoked for Tekken 8 but I could see myself making my game time 50/50 between the 2. Ended up maining Dhalsim with Ryu as my back up character surprisingly lol
@AMKIDDFGC thanks bro as someone who wants to main Ryu as this is my first ever competitive FG let alone street fighter, this guide should help me get started with what’s practical with Ryu and I can always expand my knowledge of the character from here once I master what’s in this starter guide
I've been playing SF since the original arcade game, but I've always been rather crap at combos. I'm pretty outclassed in SF6 by everybody, so this has given a me a few ideas to work on to make my Ryu a bit more formidable!
I feel you bro! Been button mashing since SF2. After years and years of playing SF4 finally decided to stop button mashing and WOOOW did it make a difference lol
Learn one 3 hit combo and land it online without mashing. Do not make it anymore complicated. I can safely say if you are a beginner it will take a good while to actually do that successfully even when you can do it 10/10 times in practice.
Just got to Diamond 3 with Chun-li, but my game with everyone else (mostly) is lacking. Figured I’d head to the king of fundamentals to try and improve some, remove some bad habits, etc. I’m Plat1 nearly 2 with the game-sense that I currently have. My lack of combos and those bad habits have been holding me back a little. What I wanna say essentially is, this guide is clean as hell and I look forward to a little training when I get home. Thanks, and GGs
its not worth the small amount of extra damage tho for how far it puts you from them, so you cant keep your pressure going. The better optiom is to do like he shows, end with medium tatsu, then you can dash one time amd get a meaty st.Mp that will combo into cr.Hp and follow up with whatever, but to keep pressure gping, end that with a light donkey kick and you get a safe jump afterward. With this type of sequence you could also carry them alll the way across the stage pretty much.
I don't consider the DR corner combo at 3:02 to be easy The window for getting DR after the OD tatsu and then connecting a crouching mp without throwing out a stupid overhead or some other execution error is tight. But I'm on a stick and I struggle with dash inputs compared to other control options.
@@ThisIsAMKIDD You're welcome. When it comes to breaking defense it's so needed imo. 1 low combo, 1 overhead, and 1 jump in combo is all you need. Sadly after some searching I don't think Ryu has one.
I just started playing sf when this one came out seriously, I am now a plat 3. It was rough in the begging, my best is advice is lose and keep losing and figure out how to be better in neutral especially playing ryu, you don’t need all bnbs just a few.
during drive rush combos after standing HK, why do crouching hard punch into H.DP? This input sometimes does super 1 or just a regular hadoken. Is it just me? I just feel like st.HP is cleaner and it does the same damage.
Good looking out on this! Much appreciated. Any advice on how to get cleaner inputs? Coming from SFV, I'm struggling getting clean input execution. I've switched negative edge on/off multiple times but I mostly leave it on. With it off, I find my cancels don't always come out...With it on, I get a lot of unwanted hashogekis, especially combos into lights. I feel like negative edge is either too aggressive or not aggressive enough. I know I probably just need more practice... I use a ds4 pad.
A lot of players have been struggling with inputs in SF6 so don't feel alone on it. SF6 has stricter inputs than SF5 so I found myself having to overcompensate my input motions to ensure I get the correct move. Others will tell you to turn off V-Sync (if you're on PC) and turn on negative edge but I found that both didn't really help me. So my advice is to keep practicing and over compensate when inputting your motions. It's been helping me so far!
Great video, super helpful for someone starting their Ryu journey! What combos that don’t use any Drive do you recommend on Punish Counters? Like for example, you block Ken Shuriyuken, what would you follow that up with when he lands and you punish counter?
Great question! After a blocked/parried whiffed DP, my go to combo that doesn’t use any drive gauge is stHK > stHP > H. DP for damage, Tatsu for corner carry or switching sides, or Donkey Kick to get space and to safely do a denjin charge.
would have been useful to say "Use this one for best oki, this one for corner carry, this one if you have this amount of meter" etc cause there are lots of combos here that seemingly do almost the same damage
Great suggestion. In episode 4, I talk about which combos to do for the desired situation. The complete playlist link is in the description. Thanks for the feedback!
Good question. If you watch closely, I actually press a lot of extra buttons. It’s kinda like how you see players multi-tap their buttons on a fight stick. It doesn’t do much but for me it’s more for rhythm and habit lol.
I hope this series helps! I posted a new video that follows up with super from the combos shown here!
Thank you for leveling me up!
Rookie SF6 player here, thanks for the Ryu starter guide.

holy bejezus this is so useful
can't believe you don't have more subscribers already!
This is excellent thank you! Because I still trying to learn drive rush as it is something I'm still struggling with
2:10 this combo saved my life, thank you so much, I like to finish it with medium donkey kick for a lil extra dmg heh

so..
st.HP > D.R. > c.HP > H. Hasho > M.Tatsu > dash 1x > st.MP > c.HP > L. Donkey > Jump HP or HK and then go from there whether you hit or not
and remember, you always get a safe jump or a double dash into +4 after a light donkey kick, so its often the better option
Thanks man. Subscribed. I am losing many games, but hopefully can improve and win.

What’s up AMKIDD! I’m bronze and Just beat a platinum player using this video. Thanks!
Great starter guide, thank you.
beautiful short and sweet guide
Very nice. I think raw drive rush being one bar is very powerful. A video on possibilities after hit or block would be cool!
Gained a subscriber, really well put together looking forward to your future content 👌
Very nice guide. Now the follow-up question would be though: what are the situations to use the combos in?
Great video. Short and to the point. Maybe for the next part you could add the Supers to it.
The way you nail the dragon punch is clean (to me at least)
Im a stick player but every time I try do DP/HP i end up just mashing HP lol
Great Video thanks for sharing ur knowledge im such a well to digest Format:)
Very helpful easy guide.. Are there any of these easy combos that start with an overhead for Ryu?

So does crmk no longer combo into hadoken

So after a medium Tatsu is it safe to throw a meaty heavy on their wake-up?
If you do the medium tatsu after the ex donkey, you do get a true okizeme situation so yes.
How in the world do you cancel something like b.HP into DP?!? 😩 edit: never mind, I just did it with the down forward shortcut! 😁
bro holy shit I used to listen to your music

Do one for ken please
Are you the same amkidd I used to make cwalkvideos on rnb stylez to? Lmao

What does dp mean I think it means dragon punch right
yes
wow are all these combos hit confirmable?
