This video is here to help you understand how all the characters in SF6 work, and help you find your main character! Street Fighter 6 is full of many unique characters who all have tons of fantastic gameplay. The Rule of Cool always applies, yes, but I hope this video helps you understand what each character is capable of!

SF6 Choose a Main video is finally here! Almost 2 hours long, 4k quality, and I hope you enjoy! Street Fighter 6 is a fantastic game and I hope this video helps you understand the roster better and hopefully guide you to characters you can find fun. To note, this isn't meant to be an exhaustive look at each character, but rather to give you enough info on what they are about and what they do to try to sell you on them! 1 l+m= light ex
2 l+h= medium ex
3 m+h=heavy ex
4 l+m+h=the most powerful ex

I really appreciate that SF6 has several versions of zoners and grapplers. Every other fighting game recently just feels like there's one or two zoners, ONE grappler, and like 20 rushdowns.
And almost every game, especially from Netherrealm have those two zoners be the strongest and the grappler be the worst

I just like how every character seems to have their own 'thing', like Manon's medals, Blanka-chans, Ken's running moves... something unique to each character
They started this with 5, making all the shotos feel different to each other. They've taken it to another level with 6. The whole cast feel super unique now.

Love love *love* that Ryu is moving into the 'mentor' role and is beginning to resemble his master Gouken in both appearance and moveset. Gouken was my favorite in SF4 and was always sad that was his final canonical appearance, but Ryu assuming his master's cloak just fills me with the manly tears 😃😭.

Gouken was definitely the coolest addition to SFIV. Hopefully they bring him back some day.

Jamie is a really cool concept for a rush down character. Having a mechanic that forces the opponent to try and keep pressure on a character that already wants to be in is interesting.
About time that this franchise feature the drunken fist style.
Reminds me of Tager in a way.
Now we just need a zoner who forces you to stay away from them or something lmao

For real. Max, True Underdawg, and Roofle make the FGC go round. Vesperarcade is great as well, but he's mostly focused on SF.
i choose my main based on whoever looks the coolest
Everyone in this game is terrifyingly good at fighting. Every character feels like they have been given the tools to not only open people up but are also able to diversify and execute on their intended gameplan. I can't wait to play this game.
This is the result of a lot of time and effort lol, so if you wanna share this video around or hit the like button or anything I won't complain 👼 SF6 is a true triumph though. There may be some characters I like more than others, but every character can do so much, is so expressive, and are just plain fun to play. SF6 is gonna be here for years to come, so buckle up!

As a man who had to work at 6 AM today and couldn’t stay up til midnight to start playing, I greatly appreciate this Rooflecast. 2 hours of explaining everyone to me as I wrack my brain trying to figure out who to main while working was incredibly helpful

As somebody new to the franchise that played MK myself, the combo timing is what gave me the most trouble. You can kinda dial it in when it comes to MK, but the timing for SF is different. It's going to take some messing around to get used to
TH-cam takes 50% of all these donations, so if you really wanna help your favorite channels, youtube donations might actually be the singular worst way to do it.

I'm not even new to SF but I've been playing Guilty Gear Strive and MK games at higher levels. I'm also having trouble with the combo timing but the best advice I can give so far is it all comes down to buffering specials and canceling out your normals.
For example: Cammy's 5HP>214LP, I've noticed as soon as I hit HP I need to hold down and start buffering the quartercircle.
Stuff where Marisa cancels from a quartercircle to a charged quartercircle is still beyond me
One thing that I love about all of Roof's "choose your main" videos are the small little character descriptions included under their names.

In a world of unskippable cutscenes, pay-2-win, and a general disregard for skill-based punishing PVP gameplay, it is so awesome to see Capcom absolutely flexing their creativity in their gameplay mechanics. They went all-out in terms of innovation here. Thanks Rooflemonger for this spectacular guide! A must-see for every new player IMO.

roodlemonger, you are for sure the most passionate fcg creator out there. a lot of other creators will say bringing in new people to fighting games is the best thing to do for the community, but you are one of the only ones that actually does it without alienating the vets.
This is such a great video, not just for trying to pick characters to play but as the a basic overview of how to play against each character. It had the perfect blend of showing the specials, normals, and unique mechanics, while proving just enough context for why those thing matter and the character's general gameplan. Thank you!

(My old ass should be playing simpler characters like Marisa, but the heart wants what the heart wants 😛 I sure wish Guy or Ibuki were in the game instead of Kimberly, though.)
I already knew I was playing Marisa since she was announced but a solid rundown of the cast is always good to have

I was on the fence about getting SF6, watching people playing a bit here and there but I never really realised some of the character mechanics until you spoke in depth about them, definitely makes the game sound more interesting, and the characters themselves some of which I am now more interested in playing. thank u so much for this, i'm pretty new to traditional fighting games in general (coming from platform fighters) so the breakdowns of every character are really really helpful well beyond just "picking a main" honestly.
SF6 is a great example of what a BIG roster is. SF5 had 16 chars but it felt way way less. SF6 has just 2 more and yet the roster does not feel short changed or lacking. Brilliant video as always rooflemonger. Cheers to this good game.

I came across your channel from a TH-cam suggestion and I'm glad I checked out some of your videos. I watched this one and the SF6 10 tips one. Both were so good. I like how you explain things that people who enjoy playing fighting games can understand without knowing all of the terminology, such as "plus on block." I also like that your videos aren't filled with fluff. You get straight to the point and don't block the game play with your head or overlays. I look forward to watching more videos on your channel.

I’m new to street fighter (fighting games in general really, I’ve had a bit of experience in Injustice 2 but that’s about it) and watching you do that 21 hit combo with Ryu at the start of the video blew me away. I’m exceptionally bad at fighting games, but I hope I can get to a point where I can make someone feel like how you made me feel pulling off a combo like that! 😅

You sold these characters to me like it was nobody's business but yours! I'm someone who only plays like 3 characters in Smash and that's it, but I can see myself maining at least half of SF6's roster. Seriously, well done.
Great guide!! I'm torn between Cammy and Marisa. This will be the first fighting game that I want to try to commit to so I need someone relatively beginner friendly. Both the extremes of fast rush-down attacks and massive clobbering punches are appealing to me; I'll have to try both and see which works best.
