    It's not "nearly 8K", it's exactly 50% of 8K
    8K is four times 4K, and this monitor is two times 4K side by side. So two of these monitors stacked vertically would be 8K.

    • @syntropy3020
      @syntropy3020 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      "K" resolution refers to the horizontal width only, so for 8K resolution refers to an image or display resolution with a width of approximately 8,000 pixels. There are many variants for vertical resolution i.e. for different aspect ratios. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8K_resolution

    I have the 49 inch Neo G9 from 2021. This is definitley an improvement HOWEVER I realized that I actually do prefer the 21:9 aspect ratio since 32:9 is simply a headache for many games with initial support of 32:9 in the first place and botched up FOV settings.
    So my actual dream is a 50+ inch 21:9 monitor. Lets hope we will get those one day.

      @@NeverGiveUpz Yes I got hyped by the Neo G9 back in 2021 and bought it for the 2000+ dimmingszones and HDR2000. At first I was in love until I started to have real issues with many games. Old or new, didnt matter. Too bothersome to always wait for widescreenfixes and ini file tinkering. A 32:9 monitor is not plug&play. It is cumbersome.

      @Cenkolino thanks for the reply mate, I guess that's this Monitor out the window for me. I used to have the Acer Predator X34a, it was 3440x1440 21:9 and fucking amazing!! But, when I recently upgraded my PC to a 4090 etc I wanted to go 4K! And why it is decent, it doesn't IMO give the same immersive experience.

    I think you meant to say 7900 or 7000 series from AMD when quoting the DP 2.1 compatibility, rather than 7800 series.

  • @kasakka
    @kasakka 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    I'd add a correction. 7680x2160 @ 240 Hz @ 10-bit - not 12-bit like you said - should be possible over HDMI 2.1 using Display Stream Compression with 3.75:1 ratio. But so far only the 7900 XT/X seems to be able to do 240 Hz @ 10-bit over the HDMI 2.1 port, with any Nvidia card and older AMD GPUs limited to 120 Hz. I hope this can be fixed with driver or firmware updates.

    • @TechManPat
      @TechManPat  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 12bit seems to either be an error or glitch, I can get nvidia panel to turn on 12 via HDMI, I doubt it’s doing anything tho

      I was going to say it’s 7900 range of cards that supposed DP2.1. I have a 7900XT and was wondering when we would see a monitor support it as they are very rare.

      @@TechManPat yep 12 Bit with HDMI, in my case i use port no 2, its working ... DP not

    • @MrLutijen
      @MrLutijen 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. 12-bit does not make sense here. It's not a 12-bit display in the first place. Samsung introduced custom timing for 8K/2K/240Hz, both on HDMI 2.1 and DP 2.1 ports. Monitor manual shows this on page 49. Also, HDMI port 1 is limited to 120Hz. It's on Samsung to cooperate with AMD, Intel and Nvidia on introducing this custom timing (pixel clock at 4223 MHz) into GPU driver firmware. On HDMI 2.1 port, only 48 Gbps mode with compression can drive this display fully, so FRL6+DSC. This also needs to be baked in firmware. Ability to do this on Nvidia cards will depend on display lane configurartion on PCB.

    Fantastic Review, I really enjoyed it.
    What made me a little nervous, is that I didn't have any protection to remove from the front of the screen, but did have some protection to remove of the back of the screen - which is weird.
    I wonder if any fellow owners had the same packaging issues.... I'm nervous that my monitor isn't new....
    (I'm now asking this question in pretty much all reviews / unboxing of the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" - and might decide to send mine back!)

    Its best to wait until the technology catch up with this type of gaming monitor, we don't have the GPU or DP ports available, the pivot and arms to fully utilize this monitor. I say get the Oled G9 or wait 1-2 more years, maybe they release an Oled version in the future or prices drops and the GPUs that can fully utilized this monitor will be available in the market. Otherwise you are leaving so much performance on the table for this price of a monitor, people would be better off going triple 32in 4k or dual. These price won't stick, look at the G9 Oled price already at $1700 from $2,300 MSRP.

    Honestly i'd rather have a big 21:9 screen than 32:9. something like 5120x2160 with 240hz. 32:9 is just not good for gaming. i had a g9 once and swapped back to 21:9 after a few days. also 7680x2160 is a bit too high res for a 57". 6000x1800 would be more fitting.
    The only use i see for a monitor like this is working and some casual gaming but no fps games like cs or valorant.
    Currently i have a LG 38GN950-B at 3840 x 1600 with 160hz. i dropped the g9 for that. For fps games i use a Acer XV272UX at 2540x1440 with 270hz. All other games are fine on the 21:9.

    I really dont get why people say stuff like you dont need an 8k monitor because your system cannot run it. Everyone said this about me buying a 4k monitor, now look at pc's, they crap all over 4k games like theres no tomorrow and this is exactly whats going to happen to 8k, you'll have the monitor far longer than 8k will take to come in. I reckon you'd even have 12k before you are done with the monitor.

    I have the 2021 model and this is a worthy upgrade I think... On the Mac can you notice much improved sharpness with text and stuff? I don't game at all with mine and 100% use it for productivity/design. The resolution sucks on the 2021 model.
    Also, this one is WAY more curved than my model I think... Wonder if that will mess me up too much for design work.

    • @TechManPat

      Depending on which mac, my M1 is really the same, its just bigger, the resolution is the same but there are more pixels on screen so things look sharper.
      Its the same curve as the old one.

  • @UberSlackr
    @UberSlackr หลายเดือนก่อน

    I really wanted to like this monitor, but I don't understand why people want such a curved monitor. It makes a large part of your desk unusable due to having to stick things behind the monitor.
    Wish they would have made 2 variants; each with a different curve level. 1000 is just too curved, imo.
    Had one for a few days, returned it. I have very expensive desk speakers from Teufel, the monitor would rattle due to the sound from the speakers bouncing off the sides of the monitor because it curved in front of them. I did have (well still have) the LG 5k Ultra Fine 34" Ultrawide (Flat) and wanted something curved, but not that curved. 1800r maybe? or slightly less? My desk is 3ft deep 7ft wide.. so I don't need something stupid curved, as the monitor sits a good distance away.. Unfortunately no one makes a monitor in the 57" (or nearby) in a curve less than 1000r .. LG's curved monitors are even worse at 800r

    Anyone who wants to buy one and expects service from Samsung in the event of a warranty claim should leave it alone.
    I bought the device at the end of August in a special offer together with a beamer. It arrived at the beginning of September and simply failed at the end of September (and I'm not the only one, so it seems to be a production fault). Since then, Samsung has not managed to repair or simply replace the device.
    The only thing I've been offered is a reversal, but I have to send back the free gift (which I gave away as it was free) or I'll be charged for it afterwards. This means that I have the stress of the defect and have to pay extra for the reversal.
    That's what I call customer-friendly and ingenious business practice. Making money for beamers that they can't get rid of because they are not worth the estimated price.
