  • The cuisine in Peru is among the best you will find anywhere in the world. From Ceviche, to Lomo Saltado, to Papa Rellenos the food is varied and delicious, with so many unique flavors.
    On a recent trip to Lima, I sought out some of the most traditional dishes and tried everything from Cuy (Guinea Pig) to Anticuchos (Beef Heart). It was a culinary adventure that you have to see.
    Watch this to get ideas of the plates that you'll want to find when you visit Peru.

    Having retired in 2023, I now travel full-time, seeing places all around the world. My idea for TH-cam is to make the videos more about the places and people along the way, than about me. I hope that the experience for you is both entertaining and educational. Perhaps you will come away from my channel with ideas about places you would like to visit or be inspired to forge your own way.
    I travel slowly, spending four or five weeks in each destination. Hopefully, that will allow me to go beyond the surface to find the essence of each location. By the end of 2024, I will have visited 14 countries and five of the seven continents. Come along for the journey!

      So do I, Geoff! As best I remember, that sauce on the first dish tasted just about like what we had in NYC!
      I hope things are good with you!

    I really enjoyed the food-centric video. Seeing all the unique dishes and hearing your thoughts on them was something very enjoyable for those of us that don't get the first hand experience. It looked tough to film, but you made it look easy. Nice work! More please.

      Cool! So glad that you liked it.
      The food tour was tough to shoot, because we were always on the move. Meals at the restaurants were difficult, because there are a limited number of angles for food shots and I am always trying not to bother other diners.
      I am already working on my next food video. It will be about the tastes of Paraguay!

    I loved Peruvian Food, it is delicious!!! Visited Peru last year and we tried everything from Ceviches, Ají de Gallina, Cuy, Potatoes... Lovely country!!! Don´t leave Peru without going to Cuzco, it is a gorgeous city with many attractions (Vinicunca the 7 color mountain is highly recommended, Cuzco itself is gorgeous and of Course all the Inca Sites)

      The food tour was very reasonably priced and I was amazed at the number of different items we got to try! I've tried to find a food tour here in Asunción, but have had no luck.

    Hello from Lima. When we ask for a ceviche , we have the option to say "bajo en ají" what means "just a little bit of chili" . I am peruvian and do not like aji in excess too, because it overwhelms others flavours, but some people do love it because it produces an special feeling in the body.

      @oldaloneandfarfromhome  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      There were a couple of occasions, when I ordered ceviche, that they would ask if I wanted it spicy. I was always very appreciative of that!

    Love Peruvian! Great food! Excellent you got around Lima’s neighborhoods… Peru’s also famous for Pollo a la Brasa, rotisserie chicken; Rocky’s, Micky’s, Norki’s and Pardos!! Keep working on your Spanish…

      @oldaloneandfarfromhome  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I was aware of the rotisserie chicken, but never took the opportunity to get some. I'll keep working on my Spanish, but I feel woefully inadequate in that arena.
      Thank you for watching!

    Nice one, a good summary of our food here very well-presented. Causa is normally mashed potatoes & avo &/or tuna, octopus inside is a new one.

    Thanks for sharing. I was going to ask what were good places to each. The anticuchos looked good (grilled beef heart). Did you get a chance to try buttifaras? Peru's sandwich? My mother made many of the foods you ate so I am looking forward to seeing how her food was different from Peru because she had to substitute some ingredients. Thanks again for these videos.

      The anticuchos were wonderful! I didn't try the Buttifara sandwich. It sounds like it would be very good!

    Love the vibrant colors of the food! Not sure about eating guinea pig--reminds me of our children's pets when they were young!

      The visual appeal of the food is certainly strong. I probably would have hesitated at trying Cuy, if I had a Guinea Pig as a pet, when I was young.
      Thank you for watching and for taking the time to make a comment.

    Hi I hope you feel more at home by now….my preferred food joint in Embarcadero 41 in Surco, wash down a ceviche with a pisco sour is my Sunday ritual. Surco is ok, it’s the district with 1,000 parks, very walkable ….just follow the parks in your map towards Loma Amarilla ( yellow hill ) park where the municipality is located, this way you will know the east part of the city closer to the dusty hills.

    • @oldaloneandfarfromhome
      @oldaloneandfarfromhome  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That sounds like a great Sunday ritual! I know that I passed through Surco, but I didn't get the chance to spend much time there.

      I was there a month, but aside from the food tour, it took me about two weeks to hit all of the others spots. Normally, I don't eat lunch, but this forced me to do so, as the light was no good by the time I was ready for dinner!

    Real fun and informative video on local food sir, congrats. Let me suggest you a couple of winners (on the food department): "ocopa arequipeña" and "arroz con pato chiclayana". Those two are amongst my top 5 best peruvian dishes. Cheers.
