Old, Alone and Far From Home
Come along and travel the world with Richard Green. Retiring in the spring of 2023, I am embarking on full-time world travel. I'm going solo, but the idea here is not to focus on me so much. It's about the places and the people along the way.
The title Old, Alone and Far From Home might initially come across as a sad state of being. My mission is to show that it's just the opposite.

Why Salerno Italy Deserves Some Love
Millions of people come to the Amalfi Coast of Italy every year. Many of them move through the city of Salerno to get to towns such as Positano and Amalfi. More of them should devote a little time to getting to know Salerno. It has history and charm and beauty, all its own and holds up well in comparison to the Coast's more popular destinations.
Take a look at this video and you will agree that Salerno should take its position on the list of places to visit in this part of Italy.
Music provided by Epidemic Sound.
Having retired in 2023, I now travel full-time, seeing places all around the world. My idea for TH-cam is to make the videos more about the places and people along the way, than about me. I hope that the experience for you is both entertaining and educational. Perhaps you will come away from my channel with ideas about places you would like to visit or be inspired to forge your own way.
I travel slowly, spending four or five weeks in each destination. Hopefully, that will allow me to go beyond the surface to find the essence of each location. By the end of 2024, I will have visited 14 countries and five of the seven continents. Come along for the journey!

Cava De'Tirreni: Undiscovered Southern Italy (Amalfi Coast)
I would like to make a case for Cava de' Tirreni being the best base to use, when exploring Italy's Amalfi Coast. That is exactly what I did and it worked remarkably well. Cava is such a comfortable town, with plenty to see and do. It is also a short bus ride to Salerno, where it's possible to catch ferries to all of the towns you want to visit on the coast. Take a look at what Cava has to offe...
Positano: Does it Live up to the Hype?
Positano is probably the most popular town along Italy's famed Amalfi Coast. Undoubtedly, it boasts some of the most attractive scenery anywhere. With the popularity, however, come crowds and high prices. So, does it live up to the hype or is it overrated? I recently spent a little time in the town and looked to see its major attractions and took in the most gorgeous places that it offers. Clic...
Amalfi and Ravello: Two of the Amalfi Coast's Best Destinations
There are many options for hiking on the Amalfi Coast, in Italy. The Path of the Gods and the Path of the Lemons are two of the best known trails. Beyond those, a fantastic way to spend a day or two is to make the walk from Amalfi down at the shore, to Ravello, high up in the hills. Here, I detail one path on the way up, which takes you through the Valley of the Dragon. Then, another on the way...
Experience Pompeii Without a Guide

Two and a half million people visit the Pompeii Archaeological Ruins each year. They arrive at a massively large attraction, with a wide range of sights to see, which can be overwhelming. Using online sources and ChatGPT, I determined the top twenty elements that y...

Dublin, Ireland: The Best City on the Planet?

There are very few cities in the entire world that are a more desirable destination than Dublin, Ireland. When I began full-time travel just about a year ago, my first international stop was Dublin. That is such a nice thing for you to say! Thank you so much and thank you for watching!
For retirement would you prefer Peru or Albania?
That is a difficult question. Both would be great choices. If pressed, I think Albania would be my choice.
Why? What do you find more appealing about Albania? We are trying to come up with a short list. Thanks for your input.
Wonderful videos on Peru! We are looking for a place on South America to retire and your videos have made us stop and consider Peru. Would you please start adding prices to your videos. It is very important for viewers to evaluate the cost of living in the locations you identify. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Barranco and Miraflores are both phenomenal neighborhoods. I try to add prices when I can, but to be honest, I get caught up in capturing clips at times and forget to make a note of the costs.
thank you. nice place
You are welcome!
I could live there! its on my list for the very near future!
So many people do choose to make this their home!
Super interesting, thanks!
You are so welcome. Thank you for watching!

Thank you for bringing Guanajuato to my attention. A beautiful city very colorful, from ❤ Puerto Rico
You are so welcome! I thought Guanajuato was amazing! Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment.
I must say, I have absolutely been binge watching your channel, and your videos are so great. Truly, I feel like im committing a crime seeing them for free. This video especially was fantastic, you somehow made this seemingly semi unplanned trip to the city literally perfect in every capacity and really took advantage of the short time you had.
Thank you for the kind words. And I appreciate you paying attention to my channel. I am having a great time traveling and love being able to make my little videos!
I love that if there is street art, you will find it and give us a glimpse! Also glad that you avoided the evil spirits!
Typically, I seek out street art and other times I simply stumble upon it. There was so much of it in Salerno!
Lovely and informative video...thank you! 🙂
You are very welcome! It was such a pleasure to visit Salerno!
I am from tunis and i learned a lot from you thank you do much.
That makes me feel so good! Thank you for leaving such a great comment!
Nice! Thanks for sharing! I really loved the waterfront and the street with all the murals. 😍😍
The street art there was amazing! And you are right. The waterfront was spectacular!
Excellent information for a first time visitor. What’s the best area for hotel stay in December? Visiting for a week. Arriving December last week in December. Staying for NYE. TIA.
If you are going to be in Athens for just a short time, I would recommend the Plaka neighborhood. That's especially good for a first-time visitor and puts you close to all of the attractions that you will want to see. Even then, jump on the metro a time or two and check out some of the other neighborhoods. I hope you have a fantastic time! Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment.
Hello all, may anyone of u share Peruvian immigration law firm email address or contact information please?

Thanks!
Interesting to see the old European. Mixed with obvious Islamic architectural influences from Spain.
It is a fascinating place!
Beautiful place, full of great artist and gorgeous homes.
There is so much to like about SMA!
its on my bucket list to visit central and south american cities like la paz, lima, valparaiso, panama, bogota im tired of bangkok , ho chi min and singapore
I can certainly recommend La Paz and Lima. I went to Medellin, instead of Bogota and I really enjoyed that. I'm planning on a swing through Central America late next year.
I have seen your TH-cam channel, and I admire your work and passion. I believe there is potential for reaching a wider audience. Let's collaborate to boost your engagement and growth.
Thank you for your excellent videos of Asuncion. This is the second one I’ve watched. I’m thinking of establishing residency there and want to know if I’d like it. Your videos are so helpful- so much more extensive and informative than any of the others that I’ve seen from those youngsters who like to post their travels on TH-cam. Thanks again!
That is such a nice thing for you to say! I think Paraguay and Asuncion will only get better in terms of welcoming people from outside. It is a pretty special place, already!
Great video, but the Paraguayan guy in the red T-shirt spoke really good, clear English, has a beautiful accent, and he did not need subtitles at all.
Thank you! You. are correct. He did not need captioning. I am glad that you found my little channel.
Thank you for your video,I like Athens😢 and your way to present it . I wish you wonderful travels and discoveries.🎉
You are very welcome! I loved Athens! Thank you for the great thoughts.
It's actually "The museum of the mud" (referring art made of mud by the indigenous population), and not "The museum of the neighborhood" I can see why the confussion tho, only one little letter changes the whole meaning of the phrase. Barro= Mud Barrio= Neighborhood Great video!
I figured that out after publishing the video. I did mention the museum in a subsequent video and got it right that time. Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment!

Wonderful video, thank you for sharing your stay in Lima!
Thank you! I had such a great time in Lima!
My grandparents came from Pikeville, I went there once when I was 8 years old and I’ve always wanted to go back, I didn’t want to leave in the first place!!! ❤
It's a nice town. I hope you get back there soon!
Just went there and ate sooo much asado and vori vori. Café de acá is amazing! Definitely recommend. The terere is sooo refreshing the actual pronunciation is (Teh day day)
There are many great dishes to eat in Paraguay! Thanks for the correction on the pronunciation of terere!
Sir, if you’re going to show us San Miguel de Allende, can you please correctly pronounce the places? Your video is beautiful, but you would’ve made it perfect if you would have pronounced the Spanish names in Spanish not in English! I am Mexican-American whose first language was Spanish, and it hurt my ears to hear you mangling the beautiful Spanish names.
Very refreshing to have found a travel channel that isnt some narcissist staring at the camara, speaking rubbish
That is so nice of you to say! My approach will always be to show more of the place about which I am talking, than me. Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment.
Loved this video! I loved Italy. I wish I could go back and spend some time there. Thanks for bringing Italy to me !
Thanks so much! Italy is wonderful. You should consider a return trip!
A great video! Dankeschön!
That's so nice of you to say! Thank you for watching.
Beautiful town! How easy is it to communicate if you don't speak Italian?
I agree, it's a fantastic town. Some people spoke English, but not a lot. I had a basic, few words in Italian. Google Translate helped with all of the rest. I managed pretty well!
I'm definitely on board with the reposo concept, the beer and the daily gelato too! Thanks for the great view of Cava De' Tirreni.
It was easy to adopt the routine! I didn't nap during that time, other than on a couple of days, but the break was sort of cool!
Even the fountain takes a reposo! I wish we could adopt something similar here. An afternoon rest would probably do us all some good!
The work-life balance seems to be so much better in virtually every country, when compared to the U.S.
@@oldaloneandfarfromhome I have no doubt about that!
Great informational video! Can you please provide me with Carlos' last name & e-mail address or WhatApp handle etc I'm heading to Queretaro from FL in late November. I could use a knowledgeable guide. I speak fluent Spanish as well. Thank you in advance!

You are correct when you say expats are not looking for a location with large sprawling malls. I have seen enough to take a pass on Asuncion.
Really cool! I’d love to spend some time there too! Thanks for sharing this ❤🙏🏼🥰
You are welcome! I had a fantastic time there!

Wanted to send you a thanks for your Romania videos. I just got back from Romania and your videos were really helpful when I was researching the country. I appreciate the amount of thought you put into your videos. When I am able to travel, I love to learn about the people, history, and culture of my destinations. This is one of the nicest comments that I have ever received! Thank you so much for sharing the impact that my work had on your enjoyment of Romania. It is a wonderful country and it is a shame that more people don't take the time to visit!
