Old, Alone and Far From Home
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 ก.ย. 2011
Come along and travel the world with Richard Green. Retiring in the spring of 2023, I am embarking on full-time world travel. I'm going solo, but the idea here is not to focus on me so much. It's about the places and the people along the way.
The title Old, Alone and Far From Home might initially come across as a sad state of being. My mission is to show that it's just the opposite.

Exploring Malaga Spain:Treasure on the Costa del Sol
Southern Spain is one of the top winter destinations for people in Europe who are dealing with seasonal weather. Malaga is a major city, situated directly on the Mediterranean Sea. In this video, I want to introduce you to the city, which is part of Spain's famed Costa del Sol.
I spent a month near Malaga and visited the city numerous times during my stay. Take a look at the beauty and history. At the end, you might be ready to book your own trip. The city would be attractive in any season of the year.
For the private, customizable tour that I took of Malaga, you can reach Mona here: www.cooltoural.net/
Music provided by Epidemic Sound.
I am a couple of years into full-time travel. I choose destinations that are located all around the world and show what those places are like from my perspective. I subscribe to the slow travel method and I make all of these journeys by myself. Solo travel can be extremely liberating.
I invite you to see the places that I have been. That might give you ideas about where you would like to travel and possibly, areas that you want to avoid. If you are content staying at home, this channel will serve to provide you with a window onto the world. Either way, you will see some amazing sights, every time you click play!

Archaeological Wonders of Southern Turkiye: Perge, Aspendos and Side
มุมมอง 351วันที่ผ่านมา
There are so many archaeological sites in southern Turkiye that you could spend weeks exploring them and never see them all. I took a day trip out of Antalya to visit three sites. There was the ancient city of Perge, the spectacular theatre of Aspendos and the Mediterranean seaside ruins in Side. After seeing this, you will want to visit for yourself! Music provided by Epidemic Sound. I am a co...
Pamukkale & Hierapolis: Turkish Treasures
มุมมอง 35614 วันที่ผ่านมา
Many people have heard of or seen images of Pamukkale and its brilliant blue travertine terraces. I was drawn by the beauty of those natural wonders on the cliffside. When I got to the site, however, I was more attracted by the ancient ruins of the city of Hierapolis. The two places share the same space, but they have varied appeal. Places that I found most amazing were Cleopatra's Pool, the Ro...
Cappadocia, Turkiye
มุมมอง 41221 วันที่ผ่านมา
Cappadocia, a region in Turkiye, is best known for the hot air balloon flights that are scheduled for every day of the year. I ascended in one of more than a hundred balloons one day in the late fall. It was one of the best travel experiences that I've ever had. Take a look at this video and you will want to add the adventure to your own bucket list. Cappadocia held other wonders too. A Jeep Sa...
Antalya Turkiye: Mediterranean Seaside Resort
มุมมอง 834หลายเดือนก่อน
Antalya, Turkiye is the most populous city in the country that is located on the Mediterranean Sea. It boasts miles of beach on the Turquoise Coast and is a city full of charm and history. The Lower and Upper Duden Falls can't be missed. The history that is present in Hadrian's Gate and at the Antalya Archaeological Museum is remarkable. The shops and narrow streets in Kaleici are intoxicating....
The Best Neighborhoods of Istanbul
มุมมอง 1.4Kหลายเดือนก่อน
There is a tendency when people visit Istanbul to stay close to the main tourist sites. That can be understandable, as the city is so large that people don't know where else to go. Hopefully, this video can make a difference. It features what I found to be the best neighborhoods of Istanbul. There are 13 neighborhoods here. They are on both the European and Asian sides, including places to shop...
Istanbul's Island Retreat: Büyükada and the Princes' Islands
มุมมอง 765หลายเดือนก่อน
Much of Istanbul, the largest city in Turkiye, is loud and crowded, as it is home to more than 16-million residents. There is one corner of the city, however, that is absolutely placid. The Princes' Islands consists of nine spots of land in the Marmara Sea. Büyükada is the largest of those and the one most set up to welcome visitors from the mainland. I spent a couple of days there recently and...
Most Traditional Turkish Food: What to Eat in Istanbul
มุมมอง 6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
As is the case when visiting any new country, trying the most traditional foods in Turkey is a big part of the cultural experience. While staying a month in Istanbul, I was able to sample many of the most unique dishes that are a part of the cuisine. There was everything from the familiar, such as Kebaps and Baklava. There were also the foods about which outsiders know very little, such as Koko...
Istanbul, Turkey: One of the World's Greatest Cities
มุมมอง 5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
There is so much to see and do in Istanbul, Turkey. It is one city that stretches onto two continents. The Bosphorus Strait is the boundary between Asia and Europe. Istanbul is the largest city in Europe and the 16th most populous city on the entire planet. I recently spent a month there, checking out the most iconic sites that everyone who visits will want to see. Take a look to get an idea of...
Discovering the Amalfi Coast Towns of Maiori and Minori
มุมมอง 8602 หลายเดือนก่อน
Maiori and Minori, separated by only a kilometer or so, are near the center of Italy's famed Amalfi Coast. There is a much different vibe here, when compared to the much more popular and crowded towns of Amalfi and Positano. Key features of a visit include an ancient castle or fortification high on a hill, the longest beach of the Amalfi Coast and the vastly overlooked Path of the Lemons. This ...
Cetara Italy: Most Overlooked Amalfi Coast Town
มุมมอง 5602 หลายเดือนก่อน
Is it possible that there could be a town on Italy's Amalfi Coast that is undiscovered? If so, that town is Cetara. With just over 2000 residents, Cetara maintains its feel as a small fishing village, even while other nearby towns are overwhelmed by tourists. Join me for this unique look at the town, from the gorgeous coast, to its narrow streets, lined with local merchants. Choosing to visit C...
Why Salerno Italy Deserves Some Love
มุมมอง 2.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Millions of people come to the Amalfi Coast of Italy every year. Many of them move through the city of Salerno to get to towns such as Positano and Amalfi. More of them should devote a little time to getting to know Salerno. It has history and charm and beauty, all its own and holds up well in comparison to the Coast's more popular destinations. Take a look at this video and you will agree that...
Cava De'Tirreni: Undiscovered Southern Italy (Amalfi Coast)
มุมมอง 7032 หลายเดือนก่อน
I would like to make a case for Cava de' Tirreni being the best base to use, when exploring Italy's Amalfi Coast. That is exactly what I did and it worked remarkably well. Cava is such a comfortable town, with plenty to see and do. It is also a short bus ride to Salerno, where it's possible to catch ferries to all of the towns you want to visit on the coast. Take a look at what Cava has to offe...
Positano: Does it Live up to the Hype?
มุมมอง 8513 หลายเดือนก่อน
Positano is probably the most popular town along Italy's famed Amalfi Coast. Undoubtedly, it boasts some of the most attractive scenery anywhere. With the popularity, however, come crowds and high prices. So, does it live up to the hype or is it overrated? I recently spent a little time in the town and looked to see its major attractions and took in the most gorgeous places that it offers. Clic...
Amalfi and Ravello: Two of the Amalfi Coast's Best Destinations
มุมมอง 6403 หลายเดือนก่อน
There are many options for hiking on the Amalfi Coast, in Italy. The Path of the Gods and the Path of the Lemons are two of the best known trails. Beyond those, a fantastic way to spend a day or two is to make the walk from Amalfi down at the shore, to Ravello, high up in the hills. Here, I detail one path on the way up, which takes you through the Valley of the Dragon. Then, another on the way...

This is the single BEST overview video I have seen of not only San Miguel, but, importantly the surrounding area. I am planning my first visit, and have scoured the youtube world trying to find something more than just random shots of downtown with silly commentary. You methodically show the town and the area, with insightful commentary. Bravo! Now on to your Queretaro video!
Love your videos!! Keep them coming! 😊
Excelent video and landscape , PERU its beautiful.
Hi! Richard, we just discovered & subscribed to your awesome channel! We are heading to Istanbul & Greece this spring & have been binge watching your videos on those areas. We have gotten tons of great ideas & tips from them. Thank you so much!! Marion & Jan 😁👍🏼
I am so glad that you found my channel! You will have such a great time in Turkiye and Greece. I can't express how much I appreciate you watching and subscribing!
Querétaro is the hot place FOR MEXICANS to move to. So, not expecting any great deals.
Great video👏🏽 Definitely will be doing a few things from this video. I’ll be there next month 2025 can’t wait!
Thank you! I am glad that you found the video to be useful. Have fun!
What a beautiful place! Everything looks beautifully kept, the architecture is spectacular, and I love the colorful flowers and street art.
It was a gorgeous city! Every part of it that I visited had something about it that was very appealing!
Thank you so much for highlighting these neighborhoods! What was the name of that favorite restaurant you mentioned? And, I love that you are not afraid to be alone, exploring. Nothing like discovering new places. Keep enjoying!
Wow,,I saw your videos of Lima,Peru and was hooked.I booked tickets for me and my family to go there . Now you show me Malaga ,Spain and I get nostalgic,I was an 18 year old kid from Jamaica in 1977 when I studied in Spain and visited Malaga.I love your videos.Big up as we say in Jamaica.Nuff love.
Your comment made me smile! Thank you for saying such nice things about my work. From Lima to Malaga and everywhere in between, I am loving all the places that I am able to visit!
Greetings from Jamaica .Love your videos, I can't wait to visit Lima.I have already made plans to visit with my wife and daughter in April.Nuff(lots)love!
Thank you so much! You and your family will have a wonderful time in Lima. Miraflores and Barranco were two of the most incredible neighborhoods that I have ever visited!
Perú is Amazing The Peruvian Food is delicious 😋 is the best
You are absolutely right! Loved Peru and loved the food.
Love Malaga Spain
It's a really cool city!
In terms of giving a real feel for a place and it's history, your channel is without a doubt the best travel channel on TH-cam and honestly a cable network or paid streaming service should offer you a deal. This is without a doubt the finest travel content I have seen anywhere.
That is such an amazingly wonderful thing for you to say! I am humbled. I certainly enjoy the work that I do on these videos and hope that shows. Thank you for watching. I am honored to have you as a viewer.
Sean bienvenidos todos a Perú amigos turistas
¡Es muy amable de tu parte! Perú es un país encantador.
you sounds like Rick Steves
I consider that a supreme compliment. Thank you so much!
Love your video ❤
Thank you so much!
This channel should be called Alone and far from home. You look young to me. Great video and nice commentary.
That is very nice of you to say. It made my day! Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment!
I was in Paraguay last year for a few weeks and liked it. Kinda sad that the old part of Asunción is really run down.
Thank you for watching and for leaving your comment. I liked Asunción very much. Of course, with everywhere there are areas that could use some improvement.
I used to live in Miraflores for several years and then some years in La Molina. The coolest place ever. Best food ever. People are lovely. It's just so unique and wonderful and people are proud and aaaaah. It is quite polluted and the police don't really do anything other than accept bribes and ofc like any city there are some areas with crime and sketchier types but for the most part you can entirely avoid that side of the city. I want to go back super bad I have so many restaurants that I love down there.... if you visit, and you want seafood, go to El Muelle. If you want the best sandwiches and fries ever go to La Lucha. Empanadas? Go to Per-Lizza. Also I've had the best chinese food of my life (i've only been in north america, south america, and central europe before so I've never had traditional chinese food), it's called chifa and it genuinely made me feel almost high afterwards it was so pleasant and delicious
Thank you for all of the valuable input! I focused on the food of Peru and Lima in a separate video that you might want to check out.
You've done such a wonderful video that I'm sold on visiting Cava de'Terreni! Thank you!
That is so nice of you to say. I hope you love Cava as much as I did!
You got the wrong building for the Teatro Municipal, it's the building in front of the one you are showing in the video 😅
I enjoyed your video. Respectfully, I cringed every time you said Querétaro. Why not say as Mexicans say it? That would be a delightful fuller embrace of the country and its language. You made a similar mispronunciation in your San Miguel flick. You pronounced the “g” as an American “g” rather than as an “h”, as it should be, in El Charco de Ingenio”. It’s a small adjustment but one that would be warmly appreciated.
So underrated! I loved the way you presented everything, your editing and cinematography are on point! Very informative as well! I wish i could give it 2 thumbs up!
That is incredibly nice for you to say. Thank you! I appreciate you watching and leaving such a wonderful comment.
I'm always impressed by the overall professionalism and quality of your videos - I can't imagine that any finer travel videos exist! Your enthusiasm and joy for all of your destinations is also greatly appreciated. Here's hoping that you continue your channel for years to come!
I am humbled by your comment. Thank you! I am so glad that my enthusiasm comes through in my videos. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to travel and experience all that I do!
No one calls it Lake Watauga, it’s Watauga Lake was so beautiful ,but now is full of debri from the hurricane Helene flood. It’s unimaginable that it’s choked up .
I'm looking forward to visiting in March
I hope you have a fantastic time!
@oldaloneandfarfromhome thank you!
I used to deliver the big lots in Pikeville, loved going there, people were so friendly loved the drive there to as soon as I got in the country there always thought of living there nice. Real nice
Even before I stayed for a few days, I always enjoyed driving through the town. It was my pleasure to hang out there for a while.
IPA? Sweet!!
Great video! Thank you for explaining each dish! Everything looks so delicious and fresh! ❤🎉
You are welcome! Food videos are among my favorites to put together. For obvious reasons!
Awesome video, Love your narration and video skills. I watched all the way through and enjoyed every minute. Bien hecho!
That is very nice of you to say! Thank you for watching and for leaving such a great comment.
Amazing! I found this video to be one of your best! Nice work! The history and landscapes are unbelievable! Surprisingly no food or drink was involved, although I enjoy those just as much!
Wow! Thanks a lot! I thought Hierapolis was fascinating. I just wish that Pamukkale had been a little more intact, as a natural wonder.
Not interestes in Paraguay. Too crooked people.
Very informative and well presented!
That is so nice of you to say! Thank you for the kind words.
my college nickname was bubbles. Just watched a few videos and subscribed. Lovely presentation. I'm looking to start my trek within a year or two from the Midwest just turned sixty. have you mapped out where you are going?
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I am excited for you to begin your journey. Some of my plans are very specific and for some, I just have an outline. Beginning in March, I will go to Southeast Asia for six months. Beyond that, I have plans for a stint in Central America next fall and winter, then the Maritime Provinces in Canada the next summer.
@@oldaloneandfarfromhome Im wrapping up a few personal injury cases to then " retire" . I like the idea of slow travel through regions. Im currently outside Chicago in Michiana region near the beaches of st joes in sw Michigan. I grew up in South Bend. Let me know if you want a tour of this area. I enjoy your descriptions of these places. Do you like cruising too?
Excellent description of this incredible city. Peru has one of the best food on earth. I’m glad you enjoyed the food and the country❤✨
Thank you! Peruvian cuisine might be my favorite that I have tried so far. I would love to return to Peru in the future!
Thank you!😍
You are welcome!
How amazing that there were so many ancient cities in the area around Antalya! Such rich history!
It is astonishing how much history there is in the region! I'm certain there is plenty more that hasn't and probably never will be discovered.
Sunday is a day of Worship. That is why, in my opinion, it was not open. My family is from there. God's Country.
How the Peruvian food in USA compares to the same dishes in Lima
I ate at a Peruvian restaurant in New York and it was fantastic. Other than that, I haven't tried additional Peruvian eateries. Going forward, I will try one, whenever I encounter it!
I am planning my trip to Türkiye for this fall when I’d stumbled upon your videos. I love traveling and my research relies heavily on TH-cam videos of different destinations and reviews. Your video is a breath of fresh air. Your intelligent commentary, quality of filming and narrative makes me believe that you were a professional broadcaster in your previous life prior to retirement. I look forward to enjoying more of your videos.
Thank you so much! It is a pleasure to get your message. You are correct. I worked in the television industry prior to retiring and beginning my TH-cam career. I appreciate you watching and also, leaving a comment!
Did you get sick to your stomach after eating all that food?
I managed to make it through just fine! I am lucky that I've always been able to eat whatever has been put on the plate in front of me, without negative consequences!
Great video! Thank you!
Excellent video! Im going to Greece in September and was planning a trip to Delphi. Thank you!
Nice!
Great video! Thank you!
Great video! And the street musician at the end, magnificent! Thank you for showing us beautiful Greece 🇬🇷
I just discovered your channel and I love your videos! Full of information and beautiful images! Thank you so much! I will subscribe and try to watch all the rest of your videos
That is so great! Thank you so much for finding me and for being so supportive. I hope my work lives up to your expectations!
