im actually crying i thought the entire video would be you showcasing the absurdity of lots of street encounters but it really is just you fighting one person
If i remember correctly some companions you can hire (and I think even Ryusho Kuki which is a required companion for story segments) increase the enemy spawn rate by a lot, making it even worse than 5 sometimes
When I first saw an example of this, I legit thought the street fight was some kind of training battle sequence where they give the character infinite wealth so you can learn all the combos. This game is so peak.
It's funny because kurohyou 1 had the exact opposite issue for me where street encounters enemies barely had any health and died in less than a minute so I couldn't fully try new fighting styles on them or enjoy the combat.
Playing kurohyou 2 on ex hard is indeed just a parryfest, but personally I think the difficulty (except for the bosses) are just right on normal mode, where yakuza thugs will pretty much never ever parry you, which to me is pretty much the sole reason I don't even bother with the higher difficulties anymore.
I still think it has the worst combat besides some games like Kurohyou 2. Street battles take painfully long and it’s not fun to play a grab simulator game
Yakuza 5 has good combat mechanics but horrible combat balancing, heat actions do lame damage, way too many enemies to fight at once, and the enemy encounters happen far too often. So overall I'd say Yakuza 5 for those reasons. It seemed like they were trying to showcase what they could do with the game engine at the time, instead of wondering if they should do things, they thought about what they could do. Heck I have more fun with the bear hunting as Saejima than actually fighting in Yakuza 5.
most styles have different punches and kicks in general, so every style has a different hit on ground one. I think my favorite is this weird lean one where you softly backhand their side with a fist in a yoga pose and you can do it fast as fuck
The regular street battles being harder than the story battles is so funny to me. I played on normal so i didnt find them too bad but it was still noticeable. I never bothered with the secret boss, I'm not putting myself through that lol I enjoyed Kurohyou 2 but I liked 1 a lot more. Combat being a big reason
I didn't fight the secret boss of Kurohyou 2 yet but 1's secret boss is unfortunately also just a punch sponge. The guy takes over 20+ minutes to beat if you're maxed out and that's if you're really kicking his ass, and he just doesn't really have anything unique to his fight.
The no button input/no QTE thing happens when you are out of stamina/in a tired state. Its the same with enemies, if you try to grab them normally they will escape so you are forced to grab them when they are in a tired state
You could get some dinner delivered from Doordash, take your dog out, maybe take a shower and that random goon would still be alive by the time you get back.
Honestly although the yakuza enemies have more health and do more damage than the other enemies, from my experience in kurohyou 2, when there is a group of enemies it feels way harder than yakuza from my experience (Granted its because I kinda figured out what you want to do, aka push forward+attack is an attack which always knocks them to their knees regardless of health/injury, after that you try to go behind them then you can just basically mash. But also I don't mind how long fights take but thats just me) I also didn't get to fight the max level 50 yakuzas in kurohyou 2 on ex hard, so that might be why
Now that I do remember back in PSP era, someone brought up this "issue" in our community and I wasn't into Yakuza at the time (I just totally went all in with Initial D and MonHunt). People were pretty certain it was "bugged" so the game doesn't get the following like the first iteration. So it WAS a good thing i played this game on easy difficulty. I only finished this game 3 weeks ago for the first time and it was amazing. The final boss was also cool and tragic. Thank you Leon 💜
Not sure if it’s implemented exactly the same but I think the crowd being able to grab you is something taken from Def Jam FFNY, because in that game either you or the opponent can be grabbed by the crowd, and from there you can get some free hits, or use it for some grapples.

Yakuza 3's combat is fun tbh, the blocking is annoying but bounding is honestly too fun, it's a shame that it was practically gone in 5, back in 0 but not as good as 3 & 4 and neutered further in Kiwami, the bounding in 0 is fun and if it had 3 & 4's level of bounding then it'd be perfect, I wish the dragon engine games had 3's bounding, juggling just doesn't feel the same.
It's not a random encounter, it's a miniboss. You can avoid them unlike the normal group fights. Which is actual bs and is what you should've talked about instead, cause it's literally unplayable. And no wonder it takes so long when you play on ex-hard. I'd still take this over playing kishin any day.
Another thing I'd like to mention is that I do appreciate this video. I love Kurohyou 2 but it has some major problems and you give great insight as to what this game's like. But I do feel like you left out some important details. The yakuza bosses give you tons of exp when you beat them, it doesn't really matter when you're maxed out but this goes to show that these are not normal enemies and are worth fighting. Groups on the other hand are a complete waste of time and is completely unavoidible. They have similar ai to the yakuza boss, so it's basically fighting 3 of em at once. Now i'm not sure but I think why it took so long for you to beat the guy was cause you're at the end game or PA. But Idk. You can also use attack boost items to make the fights go quicker, since they can stack.
If your not paying attention or if your in a tight area it’s kinda hard to avoid them sometimes. One time in Soten by the homeless camp I literally got Jumpscared by one with low health and had to spend 37 minutes just fighting ONE YAKUZA
Appreciate the feedback! Yeah I'm aware of a lot of these things. I see Yakuza type enemies as random encounters still because they're roaming around, it's just you need to bump into them. But sometimes bumping into Yakuza types will just happen even if you're trying to actively avoid them because of the game's fixed camera angles and them blending into a crowd. And even then, like you said, Yakuza type enemies isn't the only thing you have to worry about. Even gang encounters will have people surround you with continuous attacks from every direction in a game that's made for 1v1 fights, which is something you don't have to worry about in the other games. If you have a partner with you, you can both attack each other by mistake as well and it just makes things messier. Attack boost items will definitely help, what I'm trying to say with the video is that this game is more reliant on factors outside just leveling up your character. A lot of Yakuza games have this natural progression to them where you can progress through the story and gain moves without it feeling like a chore or without the need to optimize everything possible, you know?

Apologies for the long comment and me being a nerd.
Yakuza 3 was my 1st Yakuza game many years back. I think that one made me realize you can't just monkeybrain enemies. And also you can cheese with weapons lol
I mean, yeah the yakuza type street encounters are so fucking long but they are COMPLETELY optional, these enemies won't engage unless you bump into them. Besides they give stupid amounts of xp and fighting style xp Honestly I kinda like these encounters because I use them as "gauntlets" where I test skill and combos PD: Tanaka Ichiro is a banger boss with a banger OST
Yeah this is stupid, Leon claims the combat is bad while not even trying to understand it's mechanics and why some things are done some ways. I bet he doesn't even know about directional attacks having different functions.
Length of a random fight is really crazy, especially considering the camera work in this game with how close it is to action and all the shaking, I was getting tired of it just by watching 😅
I honestly liked yakuza 3 combat because of that fact you cant just button mash your way through every battle. only gripes is that it does feel like the enemies block a little too much and you dont do alot of damage but honestly in its own way it makes it special.
Y3 honestly has one of the better combat systems, seeing as its basically just an upgraded Y2 in terms of combat (I didn't forget Kenzan. 8v ]) Same snappy feel, good fluidity, its great. Even with all the blocking that carried over from Kenzan due to it's weapon focused gameplay.
Odd i don't really remember having any issues with 2. Maybe cause i got good at it and made sure to do all the side stuff for upgrades. Looks like EX hard is the problem in my opinion not the combat balance overall. Which is still valid criticism no doubt.
Long combat time is why i don't like the turn based combat either. It takes good minutes to defeat a bunch of generic goons and sometimes 20+ minutes to defeat bosses especially at the very early stages of the geme where you don't have much level. In this game's case you'd probably spend half of your PSP battery life just fighting with this generic goon lol
I remember preaching about kurohyo 2's poor combat way back, but people were absolutely mad at me for saying something even remotely bad about the game. And now all of a sudden everyone sees the light? I dont understand the internet
Maybe cuz the game didn't have a translation of any kind way back and now a variety people are actually experiencing and discussing the game instead of megafans and posers
@@earthbound9999 i play on hard and did two ex hard runs, ive never had any enemy come to even a fraction of this tanky under the same conditions. Im convinced it was a bug.
When I started Kurohyou 2, I picked hard mode because I had a nice time with 1 in normal mode and though "I can handle this"..... I still don't finish the game lmao
I used to be a hater, but definitely mellowed out with time, now I think it's just dated compared to the rest of the games after, which isn't necessarily a bad thing
To avoid those encounters don't bump into guys in suits on thr streets, they'll only fight you if you anger them. The fastest way to best them I found is to spam charged attacks and environment heat actions, hope this helps
Imagine yapping about yakuza 3 remaster where all bosses blocking your attacks, while in other yakuza games they often just dodge you right when punching is more frustrating tbh
Mainline I'd probably say K2/Y6. Kiryu isn't very fun to control in those games and it's pretty easy to get strong enough to invalidate most enemies...except some K2 arena enemies with 500 health bars
Even as a person who love Kurohyo 2, I definitely 100% agree street fight in Kurohyo 2 is the WORST nightmare you can ever imagining. I had try no upgrade kurohyo 2 before on Ex-hard. I remember using preponderance one and a half hours to beat a single Yakuza fight. It was the worst experience in my whole life.
Another reason to love Kurohyou 2's combat design. Unlimited combos, stomps, punches, kicks and back scratches on the FU***NG Yakuza! The worst combat system for any Yakuza game will always be Y4 Remastered's combat system for me. It's Yakuza 3 but slower, with countless input delays, less combo potential (except for Akiyama and Tanimura), bigger grabbing windows (for the opponents), much faster attacking rate (compare Richardson with his shotgun to Suzumiya), extremely easy boss fights and more... One thing that is particularly annoying is that you can't dodge for a good second after a dodge or dodge-strike, even though some bosses seem to be able to do it and even stun you despite using no moves that can actually stun (if you evade and strike by pulling back you can stun enemies).
Halfway through the video I was gonna comment something like maybe the devs accidentally added an extra zero somehwere like they made this guy have like 1000 health instead of 100, but nah it was more like 5 extra zeroes.
You know what? Even with Kuro 2's enemies and their beefiness (in New Game +, it's not an issue during your story playthrough), it still is far better than Chorekuza 3 thanks to a multitude of fighting styles that you can use, and I'm not even talking about Self-Taught here. And getting to the point where said styles become good enough, in my experience, wasn't quite as painful in Kuro as it is in 3 (with the first Rikiya fight being my personal point of ragequit).
Okay I literally only put on the goddess of children amulet in Yakuza 3 because i thought the enemey spawn rate was totally ridiculous, now all y'all got me shaking in me boots thinking about 5
i have 2 asspull reasons for this being the case: 1: tatsuya just is weak compared to kiryu (unlikely), which is why goons are now final bosses 2: these goons are actually high ranking tojo officers, and not the average goon kiryu wipes the floor with
@ykomat6860 true ig, unless we bring up saejima or mr shakedown ( i know kiryu can manhandle him but he's basically somewhere near saejima or slightly below his level )
Tatsuya probably scales up to roughly the big 3 based on feats, prob a little below but hes damn close. This? This is an eldritch abomination walking around in a yakuzas body.
yea, there's shit that makes you avoid havin to deal with people on the streets and whatnot. That being said, in hundreds of hours I have never produced the same result shown in this video on the same difficulties, so.
Yakuza 3 is the only game in the franchise that makes learing the komaki techniques most rewarding. The combat was never bad, it's just not button mash friendly.
I do think the title is an improvement, but this isnt QUITE accurate either. This exact scenario could only be recreated in late game on ex hard (and i haven't managed to get to THAT long of a fight either. I got 3:30 roughly, using a self taught using wild dance punches and punch power increases, nothing crazy, with minimal accessories to recreate this in a random state unoptimized.) The combat isnt going to be like this for the bulk of players. If you could share the styles you used in your self taught and upgrades too i would like to recreate it more perfectly, to see if there is something I am just doing differently. I have not been able to get this to happen to this length.

I would prefer to fight 10 minutes of tank enemies rather than 5 minutes of block-uza. Reason 1. Kurohyou 2 is testing my reflect, while blockuza is testing my patient. 2. Tanky enemies mean more score for exp bonuses. 3. Because Kurohyou have broken limb mechanic. I can give them broken arm and broken leg. It kinda Sadistic fun.

Wonder how the dev calculated this random Yakuza stats ? How could such mishap unnoticed in the first place ?
Yes, i was there went you answer a comment about kh2 in the Yakuza 1 stream recently.
Yakuza 3 was my 1st Yakuza game many years back. I think that one made me realize you can't just monkeybrain enemies. And also you can cheese with weapons lol
I guess this was never a problem to me cuz the only time I played this game was at work so the time consumed was welcome😂
holy that fight took 13 minutes, that's crazy
kurohyou 2 the game where normal street enemies slap me more than literal bosses
I mean, yeah the yakuza type street encounters are so fucking long but they are COMPLETELY optional, these enemies won't engage unless you bump into them. Besides they give stupid amounts of xp and fighting style xp
Honestly I kinda like these encounters because I use them as "gauntlets" where I test skill and combos
PD: Tanaka Ichiro is a banger boss with a banger OST
Yeah this is stupid, Leon claims the combat is bad while not even trying to understand it's mechanics and why some things are done some ways. I bet he doesn't even know about directional attacks having different functions.
@@thatfreeze Yes, the guy whose channel revolves around the series and played Kurohyou 2 multiple times doesn't know about this basic function 🤡
@@devilleon7 Damn. Didn't need to do him dirty like that
Length of a random fight is really crazy, especially considering the camera work in this game with how close it is to action and all the shaking, I was getting tired of it just by watching 😅
I like how it does the "sledgehammer swinging" sound effect for when that boss does his little pelvic rotation.
17:17
Those SFX were in the game!?
Yes, that's an actual SFX on the game
Exhibit B for Kurohyou Kiwami your honor
I honestly liked yakuza 3 combat because of that fact you cant just button mash your way through every battle. only gripes is that it does feel like the enemies block a little too much and you dont do alot of damage but honestly in its own way it makes it special.
HOLY
YOU WEREN'T LYING WHEN YOU SAID IT'S SO LONG.
THIS VIDEO IS 18 MINUTES! Crazy.
Wait...that's not a nameless yakuza...IT'S THE WAILING WARRIOR!!
Imagine these guys in tsukimino
Skill issue
This video actually made me wanna play kurohyou 2, the absurd difficulty in old-school yakuza games makes me nostalgic lol
AKI made this game. Features like by standers joining in came from the Def Jam games that Aki make
Odd i don't really remember having any issues with 2.
My choice would be Yakuza Kiwami, doing the exact opposite of a Remake should be.
Nice Opinion. But:
Rekindle-Gold
I remember preaching about kurohyo 2's poor combat way back, but people were absolutely mad at me for saying something even remotely bad about the game. And now all of a sudden everyone sees the light? I dont understand the internet
dunno what people are suddenly yapping about, i have not once ever faced this issue and idk how the fuck he got this to happen.
Maybe cuz the game didn't have a translation of any kind way back and now a variety people are actually experiencing and discussing the game instead of megafans and posers
@@lordsickomode Same. He said he's playing on hard, so maybe that's why he's having issues.
@@earthbound9999 i play on hard and did two ex hard runs, ive never had any enemy come to even a fraction of this tanky under the same conditions. Im convinced it was a bug.
@@lordsickomode That makes sense
Huge congrats for the 100,000 subscribers brother ❤😊👏
I like Y3 combat more than Y7 and 8 combat
When I started Kurohyou 2, I picked hard mode because I had a nice time with 1 in normal mode and though "I can handle this".....
I still don't finish the game lmao
hard isnt really hard tho, ex hard puts difficulty in. Hard is just avg yakuza experience.
as for this, really dunno how he got this to happen.
the combat mechanics arent bad the enemies just have too much health why is it titled like the combat is plain and boring
I was expecting a bunch of clips of you absolutely crushing Yakuza 3 combat, but this is better.
Kurohyou 2 definitely LMAO
I figured it right before you said it loooool
Walmart Nishiki and discount Ichiban sure know how to throw hands and take a beating . i'm surprised these guys aren't top of Tojo
Imagine yapping about yakuza 3 remaster where all bosses blocking your attacks, while in other yakuza games they often just dodge you right when punching is more frustrating tbh
Kurohyou 2 slander in the big 2024 💔💔💔
I would love for RGG to just remake or remaster both kuroyhou games with online multiplayer working.
I love how you start pronouncing it Korea 2 partway in
bro was fighting the same mf for 10 min straight. you have my respect o7
Imo Yakuza 6 is the least balanced and also least fun gameplay. I'm happy they improved the Dragon Engine combat significantly
Okay I literally only put on the goddess of children amulet in Yakuza 3 because i thought the enemey spawn rate was totally ridiculous, now all y'all got me shaking in me boots thinking about 5
I didn't know kurohyou 2 had a dead rising 3 boss 😹
i have 2 asspull reasons for this being the case:
1: tatsuya just is weak compared to kiryu (unlikely), which is why goons are now final bosses
2: these goons are actually high ranking tojo officers, and not the average goon kiryu wipes the floor with
I mean everyone is weak compared to Kiryu, the guy casually beats up tigers
@ykomat6860 true ig, unless we bring up saejima or mr shakedown ( i know kiryu can manhandle him but he's basically somewhere near saejima or slightly below his level )
Tatsuya is a successful MMA fighter in Kurohyou 2, if this was Kurohyou 1 i would have agreed
Tatsuya probably scales up to roughly the big 3 based on feats, prob a little below but hes damn close. This? This is an eldritch abomination walking around in a yakuzas body.
@@lordsickomode if KUROHYOU had health bars every yakuza goon would get amon levels of health with barely any color change between the healthbars
Leon just reawakened ptsd, even with the extreme man style it takes a bit
What about items which allow you to skip random encounters? Do they exist in this game?
Thankfully yes I think so!
yea, there's shit that makes you avoid havin to deal with people on the streets and whatnot.
That being said, in hundreds of hours I have never produced the same result shown in this video on the same difficulties, so.
15:52 tanaka lawg getting his freak on 😭😭😭
Yakuza 3 is the only game in the franchise that makes learing the komaki techniques most rewarding.
The combat was never bad, it's just not button mash friendly.
Once you get the komaki parry(in his strongest portrayal yet, capable of parrying even mine healing lmao) the combat becomes much easier
@spidermarcel exactly, you get it!
Well duh theres a reason he didn’t die, he was just using Staminin whenever he could
Ichiro Tanaka tends to get a bit freaky in Heat Mode
I wish they would remaster the Kurohyou series.
Sadly its been stated they have no intention on remastering or reworking any older projects
What a waste of opportunity. Kurohyou is too cool to be left to rot away.
devileon7: *explaining why the combat in Kurohyou 2 is bad when fighting a Yakuza*
me: Why does the battle music play a pokemon's cry sound noise? Am I the only one?? Can't seem to remember which pokemon's cry is that, there's only so much my brain can remember what stock noise in the pokemon franchise by the time they slowly change it in Stadium.
I would prefer to fight 10 minutes of tank enemies rather than 5 minutes of block-uza.
Reason
1. Kurohyou 2 is testing my reflect, while blockuza is testing my patient.
2. Tanky enemies mean more score for exp bonuses.
3. Because Kurohyou have broken limb mechanic. I can give them broken arm and broken leg. It kinda Sadistic fun.
i mean u can see blood and bruises just fine but while i admit its fun seeing the enemy convulses and as a hater of yakuza 3, kurohyou 2 sucks
Another banger video from Leon
How is he still getting up you already broken his arm like a lot of times lol 😂
So Yakuza enemies were trained by PS2 Hayashi it seems
Y3 combat wasnt fun at all, the moves do feel good to press its just the enemies block non stop literally no opening
