My favorite thing in this game is the dude that sounds like a horse whenever you fling him across the street with your wire. It never stopped being incredible.
amazing game. my favourite side content in the arena, the most emotional peak in the franchise for me with kiryu watching the video message, it's just so fuckin good man
I have been streaming these games on twitch everyday and recently finished this one. I really enjoyed the isolated feel the game had. Kiryu’s gag of always being identified but still having to keep distance from people he cares about like Hanawa, Akame, even the villains of the game is one example of how Yakuza can mix it’s goofy and serious tones into a wild and unique cocktail. I also really appreciated seeing the action combat realized in the Dragon Engine. I wish the upgrades were easier to get but I digress. Your video is informative and fun as always, thanks for making a lot of these details clear!
Loved nearly every second of it. It's not perfect, it has some sidequests shoehorned into the main quest to pad for length, but it is SUCH a treat for fans who've played through the entire franchise.
The real deal and great lore and lesson is that Like a Dragon Gaiden is that the story fitted well how Kiryu moved forward for his lifestyle of Yakuza with the less damage possible, but the last boss is the real opposite of his ideology and also ambitions, he was still stubborn to keep his circle jerk alive even if that splitted up for the sake of both clans who taked care about Kiryu.
No NG+ is the biggest sin this game committed, I never had immediate desire to go back for that reason. But after Yakuza 8's story letting me down hard, I really grew to appreciate what this game did as a companion piece to Yakuza 7. I'd still put Lost Judgment and Yakuza 7 above it personally but Gaiden was really good and the OST is something else entirely.
This game is a lot like Majora's Mask for me where it's a project the developers kinda just cobbled together in a really short amount of time as a means to be padding between major releases, but then it ends up having some of the highest highs in the entire series despite its shorter runtime or lower overall amount of content.
They all said it was only 20 hours but it was the first one i put a real 100 hours into. I loved it and it feels the best to complete fully. Narrative is imperfect but game is goated 4/5
Honestly, my biggest issues is that I honestly find Crane in Judgement more useful than Agent. The gadgets felt so clunky to use properly and more like it was tacked on to a combat style they were already working on. Also it felt like enemies would randomly break out of your combo to punish you way more often in this game, which is a tricky balancing act. Also the late game group battles against the Four Kings or whatever they're called were nigh impossible for me to win as with Kiryu. Thankfully machine gun cheese exists I guess. The storyline worked well enough, though I only really liked one of the antagonists. This also was when the Daidoji became this huge super secret organization which... didn't feel like it was ever meant to be the case when 6 happened but here we are. I think it was pretty damn good overall despite some shortcomings and the finale is the sloppiest makeout fanservice I've ever had given to me both physically via final boss and emotionally with the ending. That said the game doesn't let you play as Kiryu and absolutely body Ichiban as the final boss 0/10.
Even though lost judgement is the best game in the series this game is genuinely the peak of the series for everything it done for everything it did this is the send off to kiryu we deserved this game is genuinely the highlight of the series its only flaw with this game is it ends too fast i dont wanna stop playing it
Like A Dragon Gaiden gave us what we wanted from the Dragon Engine, only a pity it is so short. Speaking of OST, I think the unofficial OST (Club Castle theme) - 2:40 is really nice. I was wondering if you had any idea who composed it?
the only BAD thing about this game, which isn't even close to being the definition of bad, is that there's a few slow points with Akame but beyond that this game is short and sweet. Your ending bits were fucking amazing lmfao
The only reason why some people probably dislike it is that you don't have hundreds of hours of side content to go through. But I will say whenever I saw those boss fights and heard those songs kick on, I knew this was the best game ever made. Next to Lost Judgement because its quite hard to beat sex.
I think Gaiden has one of the best OSTs along with Lost Judgement. I listen to both of them at the gym unironically. I absolutely love their music team. Akame is also one of the best additions of the series. Why does her menu music go so hard!? I know the Daidoji is a contentious addition but their weight felt real. I think they're a bit mishandled, but whatever. The ending though =( god damn was that a moment
I think Gaiden beyond being peak, shows that RGG when focused on the key elements of the series, can still go above and beyond no matter how long a game is. I think my only problem was, with how hard the ending hit, the ending of Infinite Wealth felt so lack luster. Especially as Kiryu’s last game (for real this time) I wanted him back in Okinawa at the very least. I totally get Gaiden was written after 8, but it might have almost benefited from being released afterwards. With only two months to go before 8 released, my expectations were so high for what the ending of Kiryu’s story would be I think I ultimately set myself up for disappointment.
I just finished my playthrough of Gaiden(I platinumed the game but not the completion list) which is ironic since I pre-ordered it when it was announced but wasn't able to play it until recently
Honestly this game was really good. Not too long and not too short. Although I thought some of the cutscenes where Kiryu was spider man were kinda silly but then again it is a yakuza game
Gaiden rekindled my love for Yakuza/Like a Dragon. After Gaiden I've played 7, the last half of 5, 6, Ishin, 8, Judgment and Lost Judgment. This game was short, but man, it was an amazing ride
What an amazing game I 100% the game so fast but that’s because it was so amazing I couldn’t put it down took around 50 hours to do everything and that’s a perfect game length very excited for the next gaiden game
Loved Gaiden as well. Legit one of my favorite Yakuza games. Combat was fun, gameplay improvements were fully on point, the story was trademark Yakuza bonkers, you're quite literally the 007 of Dojima, and the music....dayum, that music. And to top it all off - Kiryu didn't even need to star in it. That Joryu dude was pretty cool, hope we see him again. I had also thought the game would be extremely short thanks to the price tag and the advertising of it, but if you do all the content that's given to you, it's really not short at all. In fact it was nice having achievements that were achievable within a relatively sane amount of time. Really hoping Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will have a similar flow.
There's only ever been 2 games that's made me literally start ascending from its music while also causing me to have a fat cry session for half an hour, and Gaiden was definitely one of them. (the other was Xenoblade Chronicles 3) My only gripe with it is some of the odd gameplay changes RGG made, which totally could've been left alone. (No item shortcuts, Yakuza's slow combo speed, finishing holds locked behind Extreme Heat, slow heat generation, Brawler grab animations for Yakuza, and just the Agent style rush combos being weird in general)
First time it was just ok. But then when i really got into yakuza i came back and fucking love it. This game and 6 are the ones i just blow through whenever i need to just kick some ass
6 was the last game I had to finish and it really put 7, Gaiden and IW into a much better context for me. The only complaint I have for Gaiden is the combo speed for the Yakuza style.
One thing I have been wondering since the ending of this game is if we will see Shishido and Nishitani again. The Daidoji take them away and it has left me thinking about when they may come back again. One thing with this game was that I got so OP by doing the side content and beating Amon to get the war god talisman that I just spammed extreme heat mode so I was untouchable.
My biggest issue with Gaiden is that everything that happened in it was made irrelevant by Infinite Wealth. I know Gaiden was spawned in a short period of time in parallel to IW, but the teams couldn't update each other to keep both games coherent? Going from "I'm sorry, but you've got the wrong guy." to "HEY KIRYU-SAN! HOW ABOUT WE GO GET SOME SUSHI BEFORE MEETING DAIGO DOJIMA, FORMER SIXTH CHAIRMAN OF THE TOJO CLAN?" And the budding friendship between Kiryu and Hanawa turning into (So, Hanawa is dead.) I enjoyed both games independently, but at the end of the day, IW feels like a middle finger to people who enjoyed Gaiden, especially since its relevance to the timeline is likely greater than Gaiden... Luckily, they're not going to repeat the same mistake, which is probably why LaD 9 is currently not on anyone's radar. It's probably well into development, but they seem to take their time, both to not overwhelm the fanbase and to keep stories more coherent. Come On, I can't be the only one who was annoyed that everyone but "Barman from Survive" used "Kiryu" after he supposedly erased his name!
the only negative of LAD gaiden is the lack of new game+, which SEGA has been holding hostage for all of its new releases
It is very dumb but at the very least I think the community response should HOPEFULLY convince them to just never do that again lol
I hate that they did that because it's the one RGG game that I wanted to play again immediately after finishing it.
Which is why I'm glad they're mostly hands off with Atlus' games and just let them do their thing.

3:40 liked that music synced up with Kaito's kick
8:07 how did I never notice he runs right through that chair?
Un Altro Appasionato is easily one of the best songs in not only the series but video gaming in general
Loved nearly every second of it. It's not perfect, it has some sidequests shoehorned into the main quest to pad for length, but it is SUCH a treat for fans who've played through the entire franchise.
i can confidently say that like every RGG game you should play it with a tissue beside you, for emergencies of course
The jigging keys of the yakuza franchise
No NG+ is the biggest sin this game committed, I never had immediate desire to go back for that reason. But after Yakuza 8's story letting me down hard, I really grew to appreciate what this game did as a companion piece to Yakuza 7.
I'd still put Lost Judgment and Yakuza 7 above it personally but Gaiden was really good and the OST is something else entirely.
I got the plat for it last sunday, i was putting it off for ages. I love this game
This game is a lot like Majora's Mask for me where it's a project the developers kinda just cobbled together in a really short amount of time as a means to be padding between major releases, but then it ends up having some of the highest highs in the entire series despite its shorter runtime or lower overall amount of content.
Peak video for a peak videogame, I love you
I love you too, TH-cam user @iron-fistaimee
How it came 1 year ago 😮
polish kiryu, the cow of dojimcyzsk
I came one year ago
@@JumpyKaput impressive
I was wondering if you had any idea who composed it?
this was a great video! what a legendary game
Its crazy how RGG were able to make sonething do good in such a short amount of time on the tail-end of another game's development
the only BAD thing about this game, which isn't even close to being the definition of bad, is that there's a few slow points with Akame but beyond that this game is short and sweet.
Can’t believe this games a year old already it makes me feel sad
I personally wish this game had some more quick time events, but that’s all really.
God this OST was fucking ridiculous man, even for Yakuza standards it was so goated
Joryu on his kingsman arc in this game
9:08 Only now I realise that this is the Akira slide
Gaiden rekindled my love for Yakuza/Like a Dragon. After Gaiden I've played 7, the last half of 5, 6, Ishin, 8, Judgment and Lost Judgment. This game was short, but man, it was an amazing ride
6:37 why should we ignore majong bong bara, the best yakuza character next to the dog from lost judgment?
Such a phenomenal game and a true tearjerker.
What an amazing game I 100% the game so fast but that’s because it was so amazing I couldn’t put it down took around 50 hours to do everything and that’s a perfect game length very excited for the next gaiden game
Not to mention I also 100% infinite wealth LOL that 50 became 150!!
I whole fartidly agree but somehow you may be a bigger glazer of this series than me
Loved Gaiden as well.
(the other was Xenoblade Chronicles 3)
My only gripe with it is some of the odd gameplay changes RGG made, which totally could've been left alone. (No item shortcuts, Yakuza's slow combo speed, finishing holds locked behind Extreme Heat, slow heat generation, Brawler grab animations for Yakuza, and just the Agent style rush combos being weird in general)
Gaiden is without doubt my favourite game in the franchise, RGG making a "side game" being a masterpiece shouldn't be legal
I feel like we just had a SnowiestAngeman orgasm ASMR in the second half of his video.
Gaiden is sooo much funn man, it is so much better than i expected. All the minigames, combat, story, ministory
LAD gaiden is literally the ONLY game that made me cry over the last 10 years. Thanks RGG ❤
First time it was just ok. But then when i really got into yakuza i came back and fucking love it. This game and 6 are the ones i just blow through whenever i need to just kick some ass
The castle escape was such a huge highlight of the game!
12:43 I can wholeheartedly say. We all fucking cried at this scene!
its crazy how much i liked this more than 8
Like a Dragon Gaiden is the only game that has ever made me cry. It is truly a masterpiece.
Glaze away buddy, glaze away. I love it!
I love how SnowiestAngeman basically said the game is too good to the point people say it's bad.
Gaiden is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played lol, it's so gorgeous
Peak Yakuza game, I'd even call it a top 5. I like it far more than Infinite Wealth
Although I liked the idea for the final boss of infinite wealth i feel like gaiden's story is more well thought of at least in my opinion.
Unironically watching a live stream of gaiden from devileon during like 3 days of me being horribly sick was the best 3 days, they locked in hard
played through this again recently using a community new game + mod and had a blast. only place in the dragon engine you can play billiards.
I just started my replay of this game, insane timing
My biggest issue with Gaiden is that everything that happened in it was made irrelevant by Infinite Wealth. I know Gaiden was spawned in a short period of time in parallel to IW, but the teams couldn't update each other to keep both games coherent?
Going from "I'm sorry, but you've got the wrong guy." to "HEY KIRYU-SAN! HOW ABOUT WE GO GET SOME SUSHI BEFORE MEETING DAIGO DOJIMA, FORMER SIXTH CHAIRMAN OF THE TOJO CLAN?"
And the budding friendship between Kiryu and Hanawa turning into (So, Hanawa is dead.)
I enjoyed both games independently, but at the end of the day, IW feels like a middle finger to people who enjoyed Gaiden, especially since its relevance to the timeline is likely greater than Gaiden...
I cried to at the end. The game was so good, really loved the agent stance.
Doing understandable tricks on it Fr Fr 🔥
Has it really been a year already? My god, I love this game
It's already been a year since this game was released??? Time flies man
