True story, my current car at 145,xxx miles has been the most reliable car I've ever owned and it was a lemon law buy-back. Simply said, mine was an early production car and had a non-repairable problem for which the auto maker simply bought it back, repaired it with improved parts, and 12 years later is still doing just fine. Normally I don't keep cars this long, and normally I buy new - but this was just a no-brainer that worked out.

I bought a Jeep Wrangler 4xe 2022 that was a manufacturer buyback. It was bought back due to a part taking more than 30 days to come in. It had 1500 miles and original msrp of 61k. Got it for 41k otd. Part was replaced and warranty was extended 12 months more and unlimited miles. So far I couldn't be happier. Hopefully this thing holds up over time. Carfax and Experian auto check both show clear title.

I bought a 2001 Jag XKR in 2004 (it was a one owner before used dealership sold it to me) it was a lemon buy back, original owner had it repaired...service records showed only regular maintenance, come to find out the entire engine was replaced with one that had a 020911 engine, which means it has the improved engine for 2002s, better materials (metal vs plastic) for timing chain tensioners and waterpump impellers...runs as good now (Dec/2023) as it did in 04 (now has 97k miles on it.

Your car is a lemon. I have a 2017 mustang gt which was burning oil from the begining. Had to add 3 quarts between oil changes to bring it back to normal levels. Long story short engine lost compression on cylinder 4 and 8. Dealer replaced entire engine for new one and gave if back to me. 10 miles into the new engine and CEL turns back on. Took it to dealer and New PCM was installed. Gave it back to me 20 miles in and CEL is back on took it to dealer and Intake runners were broken. Long story short FORD is Finally buying it back from me. Car only has 12800 miles.

Bought a 93 T-Bird SC with 90,000 miles that had Fords DIS electronic spark ignition. Kept throwing a code for cam sensor. Car will run without sensor reading but you will not get correct spark advance and reduced performance. Turns out the car was a Lemon buy back and was never fixed. I finally traced the issue to the wiring harness, the computer that was in the car was damaged and was probably replaced at least once. The ground shielding for the Crank Sensor was broken and the square AC wave from the crank sensor was damaging the circuits in the EEC. Only by taking the computer out and installing it in another car was I able to realize the computer was damaged and the issue followed into a perfectly fine running car. I replaced computer in the 93 and the code came back, then I knew it was in wiring and had to dig through the engine harness to find the broken wire. I will never buy a Lemon car again.

California can be a good place to look for lemon law cars. Their repurchase laws are so lenient that a manufacturer can be forced to repurchase a car without a reproducible problem. Many unscrupulous car owners will ditch their cars in such a manner either because their financial situations change abruptly, or sometimes just before the vehicle's warranty expires, getting back oftentimes quite a bit of their investment in the process. Other states (like Georgia) have such strict repurchase laws that a car can be in the shop multiple times for the same issue and the manufacturer can still legally refuse to repurchase the vehicle.
The other question to consider about a repurchase is this: how was the manufacturer able to successfully repair the vehicle only after it was repurchased? Usually, it will be in their best interest to repair the vehicle while it is owned by the customer rather than lose money on a repurchase. Fortunately, a repurchased vehicle usually will be resold with a 12 month warranty form the manufacturer on the repurchase repair in question, so that's an important detail to discern prior to purchasing such a vehicle.

Except we DO have lemon laws, and the ACCC can order a manufacturer to buy [x] through [x] VIN cars back at full price if they're found to have consistent problems over multiple different cars, they were right on the verge of doing this with Jeep for the earlier grand cherokees electrical problems, even before it came out that they're doing a recall for the gear selector in the US but not Aus (yet).
ACCC are riding jeeps ass so hard right now they don't dare refuse anything.

I got a 2003 V6 Mustang for my first car, it's been pretty great to me with over 170k miles, run hard. It used to be a rental car (that's actually a really good option because the rental companies do really good maintenance). It's always a crap shoot buying a used car, I got lucky. If you're on a budget and looking for a used car, there are way too many variables to say what is and what isn't a good car. If you're buying used, good guidelines are always, buy from a dealer (even if it's a small dealer, you might pay extra compared to an individual seller, but they are a lot more upfront about the problems with the car and will be willing to greatly reduce the price or work with you to make you buy the car).
In general, sports cars are kind of dangerous, because they are notorious for being pushed harder than other cars. One-owner is usually more preferable. And when you test drive it, make sure you do different kinds of driving, slow tight turns, acceleration, braking, highway, street, listen for noises or loss of function. Again, used... there really is no way to say what is good and what is bad, it's more so about the options and price you give yourself! (VW beetles are known to be reliable, long-lasting, and easy to work on)

well if its a manual ecoboost, it could eventually be a lemon (well, warranty). the ecoboosts are known for some high load, low rpm detonation. dont floor it in 6th at like 50mph.

I bought a 2010 Chevy back in 2013 it was a lemon...they said they fixed all problems and inspected it and made sure there were no other problems....worst mistake of my life, so much shit has been braking down on it only in 3 years and I bought it at only 50,000 miles as well....never buy lemons it's not worth it! Invest a little more money for a new car or you will end up paying way more in repairs anyways :/ life lesson learned the hard way
