    I've been seeing a lot of unboxings where people are singing the praises but all of the concerns you stated are everything I've been thinking. As always great to see an honest review. Thank you! I'm hoping a build kit comes out that provides upgraded parts.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly!! The other two problems are big 1.9 tires with 4.7 inch diameter hit the front wheel wells and full compression on the front suspension hits the thick plastic links when both are at about half travel.
      Yes, kit with upgraded/metal parts would be cool.

  • @bryanmatheis2194

    Ok, I own this new 1.9 wraith and I'm not affiliated with anyone, I sponsor myself. I'm not one for leaving any of my RC's stock, not my style or the type of RC crawling enthusiast I've become. This rig has plenty of potential performance to be pulled out of it. I also own SCX10.2 deadbolt, honcho and CRC Jeep rigs too. The price is up there but the transmission does come with steel gears and it does have better stock interior than the deadbolt. The hood also opens and that makes swapping batteries out fast and easy. If you look at the price point of the honcho and deadbolt and CRC Jeep, I think this price point for the wraith is decent. Once I dialed in the shock positions in their alternate mounting locations this lowered the squat and offered a nice ride hight to work with. I actually think it handles a lot better than all 3 of my SCX10.2's in stock form as I was able to outclimb the same runs in my back yard rock garden. Now to each his own, since adding my alloy wheels, sticky tires, CVD front axles, and better shocks, and borrowed the unused CRC steel links for panhard, steering and upper links only, I'm very impressed with the new 1.9 Wraith's abilities. I like how they painted the body, silver on the interior of the body and mate orange or black on the exterior. This silver color has started to shine through where the rock rash has come in contact with the outside of the body and is now adding a nice worn effect. I'd say there is no substitute for trying something out yourself and experimenting with something's full potential. Reviews are nice and opinions may vary but there isn't that single best RC vehicle out there for everyone to want to go out and buy. I can say that the designers blended several platforms together, taking the strengths from them to create something that wasn't out there in the market right now. This platform is lite weight and I think it's balanced pretty good with 60% front, 40% rear, The battery tray or lack thereof one is not a big deal, either add a small strip of styrene that runs across to both sides or just use some velcro to attach the engine bay top cage cross bar, it works great with my shorter length sized LiPo's! I also find the COG a lot better than my SCX10.2, seems more balanced than my deadbolt too. Now that Chevy blazer may be a looker but it sure seems to get hung up on the rocks quite a bit, the approach angles cannot compete with the new Wraith 1.9 but now you're talking a 1/10th custom offroad platform vs a street weekend warrior ride. For me, the fun part is tinkering with something to make it my own and see what performance gains I can squeeze out of it to compete or have fun with. Over this past weekend I entered a timed crawling event, they made me run class 3, I still need to read why it's in class 3 for SORRCA rules but that said I still got 1st place and won me $25.00. So with that, I will say I like it and am happy to have added it to our RC crawler home!

    I just got one of these today.
    Pros: (some are my opinion)
    1. Controller - Looks very cheap but feels really good, allows for a good amount of adjustability, never gave me any issues.
    2. Body quality - Panels themselves are very durable and feel pretty high quality for plastic. They also flex, so getting them caught, even pretty tight, hasn't damaged them.
    3. Aftermarket support - It is very lightweight and easy to transport, and has many options for aftermarket support
    4. Torque - Had more torque even with just the stock motor, than it could ever need.
    Cons
    1. Tires - not great, could probably use a wider or softer set
    2. Stance - Axles are not wide enough, which causes limitation in the ability of the suspension (Is fixable with wheel spacers for ~$10).
    Notable statements:
    1. Really surprised me with its ability to get out of almost every situation I put it through
    2. Can squeeze through some pretty tight places with good control
    3. Battery lasts forever with the stock configuration
    4. Never had a problem with ground clearance, but the topheaviness was an issue throughout some of my tests. I feel like this could be fixed with some aftermarket steel parts such as driveshafts, axles, and links.
    5. It really looks good and I love the LED lights

    A key problem we didn't mention is unlike most 1/10 vehicles where one can get a lighter body for appearance and performance, it's not an option here. The plastic skin only weighs about 50 grams. Most of the weight comes from the cage.
    Something to think about in case you want to improve the body or the Center of Gravity.

Elephant in the room is the trx4 sport is the same money and more capable. Not an apples to apples comparison, but still....

The real bummer is it's got the cheap flexible single piece ar44 axle housings that bend under very little load! My scc10.2 raw builders kit started slipping diff gears within 3 months and axle housings had stretched bad! Shimming helped for a bit but I had to upgrade to SSD pro44 axle housings it fix the issue! Check out my video on it:

I was watching a video With Josh from Harley designs,Matt from SBG and Rich Trujillo from Axial and all made a huge point about the status of the Hobby and how some are being made to feel that they won't even come out to events due to the classes and the mods. The wraith 1.9 straight out of the box is a capable fun rig and that's the HONEST truth. I started in RC ground hobby way back in 1983 with a Tamiya Brat.Frog (Same chassis) the Hobby has come along way and while everyone wants a Vanquis VS4 10 we make due...This guy who reviewed this Rig never met a Traxxas he didn't like

    The axle c hubs are weak to if you land on your tire right it will snap it off and then you have to replace the axle housing. You can retrofit aftermarket one for the scx10 2 to beef it up some.

    I got lucky and was able to buy a demo model from my lhs. I bought several upgrades for it, including steel links, and managed to upgrade most of them, but then I took a break and thought about it, and ultimately decided to undo the upgrades so I can sell it. I don't like it, and would rather put time toward my SCX10 II Dingo project, or revert that one back to the Deadbolt that it started out as. I think this Wraith 1.9 was really about scale aesthetics, and not about releasing a genuinely new model. Enthusiasts who like the Wraith 1.9 look will be drawn toward this model, but I agree that it's not recommended as a 'first crawler', unless the price were drop below $340.

    The biggest thing I've seen in this video of it being top heavy is you taking a bad line over a rock.

    My Honcho had 1 of the tires messed up. The QC for the people gluing the tires needs to be stepped up BIG TIME! I had to un-glue mine to fix it.

      @@RCReviewChannel Agreed! These aren't cheap, this QC level isn't acceptable. I'd prefer they didn't glue the tires at all and let us do it. Truth be told, the tire I fixed had a spot where the mold release was (a little knot). I cut that off and adjusted the bead a little bit and then they glued up fine.

    • @waffleattacks
      @waffleattacks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, that’s complete BS, it’s not normal. It’s just lazy quality/finishing control on their part. Axial has always been notorious with wobbly tires. If you want to keep the stock rims and tires, you’ll have to remove the tires by boiling them or put them in a sealed ziplock bag with acetone (in a well ventilated area) remove all trace of glue on the rims and the tire. When refitting, make sure that the bead is really snug in the rim and doesn’t have any excess rubber on the bead from the casting, reinstall the wheels on the truck to make sure they don’t wobble and adjust if needed and then gently reapply glue into the bead. This always works for me.

    • @stpbasss3773
      @stpbasss3773 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2
