    Love side by sides, some months ago found a 1960's AYA No 2, one owner from new. Apart from a service had not had a lot of use for the last 30 years. Fore end could do with some treatment but does have a recoil pad. Looks just fine and works well, not bad for £550.

    Why no ATA Arms included ? The ATA SP laminate sporter with adjustable comb seems very good value, nice wood and very similar to a beretta 686.

      It's like most of these shooting school/shop videos on TH-cam not a true example of what's on the market for working people on a budget.

    • @JB-tc8el

      @@philipcorbett4914 no dealer sells every manufacturer. These guys don't sell Beretta I believe nor ATA. Others I know don't sell Yildiz or ATA. Another shop I know sells Berretta and Browning but not Caesar Guerini etc etc. The Video isn't saying buy this, it's to give people ideas of what they can get for a budget new and second hand. That's a good thing in my book. We need to change ge perceptions that you have to be a millionaire to shoot clays etc.

      @@JB-tc8el what are you banging on about ? It's not a dig at TSC I love his videos as I said it's not a true example of what's available on the market and yes I know not all shops sell all manufacturers , my point is if you're doing a budget starter video do one with multiple examples and not what's on the shelf, and yes I know you don't have to be a millionaire because I shot and I'm not a millionaire, so next time you decide to open your mouth read what's in front of you and not what you think you've read.

      @@JB-tc8el To be fair though the title of the video is “The best guns you can buy £500-£1000” and not the best guns we sell between £500-£1000.
      Surely there should be a mention of other brands they don’t sell if there are decent buys between these prices. I’ve only heard good things about the ATA and a lot of the other channels seem to rate it for the money.

      @@wonkaredits3327 I started with a super cheap £100 Lanber five years later I still own it and and ATA super sport the ATA is a fantastic gun made a few small changes , weight balance and recoil pad now it's a great clay smasher , tried lots of other guns yes I appreciate the workmanship and quality but it goes bang and clays break just like my £700 pound ATA if I had unlimited funds no doubt I would have the best of the best .👍

    The best guns 500-1000£ are older quality guns!!, miroku, 686, nikko, winchester 101 etc yes new ata and the likes are specd well as in steel proof/multis but if we are talking "best" as in build quality, materials balance, trigger pull, geomtery, barrel regulation there is zero contest between say a miroku 7000 and an ata, too many people can't see past the big warranty, which is fine we are all different, but don't be scared to try used quality, massive bargains to be had

  • @mikedupree832

    Rookie type question. Height in the comb? How would I measure my qun. You seem to be able to tell by looking. What do you look for

    • @fullchoke01
      @fullchoke01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If your gun mount is consistent- when you look down the gun basics are a flat/field gun (low comb) you will see next to no rib or bead and possibly just rear of top lever
      A general sporter you could see down the rib and bead
      And a trap gun thats (high in comb) you will be looking down onto the rib. These things are all very variable due to gun fit and how you mount the gun and also what works for the shooter and their shooting style, eg if you mount a (low) field combed gun softly it will give a sight picture like a sporter to some people, its all very personal but you can "fit" most stock heights by changing cheek pressure, and if you want to measure it turn gun upside down with no beads on or front bead off edge of table, and measure distance between front, middle and rear of stock to table

      @@fullchoke01 Thanks for your reply. When measuring about what should I find ?
      On average what is high and what is low.. Thanks so much for your help. Maybe my issue is consistency of mount?

    • @fullchoke01
      @fullchoke01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikedupree832 no worries, what issues are you having exactly? But yes gun mounting correct and consistent is priority to figure out what works, you can change head down pressure to make a gun shoot flat or higher after your mount is there, wouldn't worry too much about the stock numbers it's not really a rule to live by

    Bettinsoli are a good starter gun but they are no where near caesarguerini in terms of quality fit and finish and that's even before looking at balance because bettinsoli barrels are like lead and very front heavy. Id even say yildiz are ahead of them now especially the "pro" range. If it was my money and i was starting again and had to choose an ATA or bettinsoli it would be a ATA all day. But what id probably get would be a 30 m/c winchester 6500.

    Still want to know...why are nice guns so cheap in the UK? You are talking $750-1350 USD. That's on the low side for good O/Us in the USA. I will concede that Turkey is turning out some real beauties in that price range, I own two of them, but in general nice doubles and O/U (and even some autoloaders) run $1500+ here.

    • @garyK.45ACP
      @garyK.45ACP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pauljinks8480 I pay about $5/25 $21/100 to be precise, for 1-1/8 oz. target loads in 12 ga or 7/8 oz. 20 ga. .410 and 28 ga are more, so I handload those for about $16/100. Shotgun target shells have been relatively stable in price since we have had this "ammo panic" and I have been able to buy them off the shelf for the same price I did before covid. I handload for 4 gauges and .410, so I can always do that, but the 12 and 20 target loads are cheap enough that I don't usually bother.
      Most of our target loads for 12 ga. are 1-1/8 oz (32 grams) because that is what is allowed for American trap, skeet and sporting clays.
      Gas is $2.97/gallon here today (Florida)
      I have been to the UK many times and yes, generally prices are higher, that's why I wondered, why so low for nice shotguns?

    • @garyK.45ACP
      @garyK.45ACP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pauljinks8480 Somewhat different here. Shooting is very popular amongst the general population, but shotgun shooting sports are not the most popular. I would say, regular rifle and pistol range shooting are more common.
      Trap, skeet and sporting clays are popular though, don't get me wrong. But I think if you took a count of heads at our local ranges, you will consistently find more people on the rifle and pistol ranges. My wife and I enjoy all.
      We shoot sporting clays on Wednesday morning, Skeet on Sunday morning and rifle and pistol on Tuesday and/or Friday mornings.
      We don't even try to shoot at the rifle/pistol range on a Saturday or Sunday. So crowded you will wait for an hour or more to get a position to shoot.

    • @mp--3490--
      @mp--3490-- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's at least partly because shooting can be quite elitist - particularly game shooting - and you will find a lot of shooting enthusiasts driving expensive cars and sporting a rolex ie. all status symbols so they must have an expensive gun too. That trickles down to the entry level where people feel they must choose guns more expensive than in this video . Therefore cheaper guns are unpopular and don't forget in UK that country sports are the domain of more wealthy types so they have the cash to splash too.

    • @garyK.45ACP
      @garyK.45ACP 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mp--3490-- Oh that's true. As I mentioned, I bought a pair of Turkish made, "Tedna Excellence" O/Us in 20 ga for my wife and I to use for sporting clays. I got them on closeout for just under $500 each.
      These are absolutely gorgeous guns. Color cased receivers, false sideplates and stunning Turkish walnut wood. They have served us well shooting hundreds of cartridges per month. And they get a lot of attention from other shooters on the course. UNTIL... They find out it is a Turkish gun that cost 1/10th the price of the less attractive gun they are shooting.
      We also shoot scores equal to them. Certainly nothing can be wrong with the gun, right? 😎
      The British gun channels I watch seem to be more accepting of the Turkish guns than shooters in the US are, but that is slowly changing here. At least among the general shooting population. Americans love a bargain. Maybe never among the "elites", though.
