    Well done David, I've been shooting for years and use all of those things. Good way to get someone started in the sport for a reasonable amount of money!

    I have been shooting trap and skeet for 55 years. I would think nothing about shooting 100 birds weekly but those days are gone. Ten years ago you could catch target load on sale at Bass Pro shops or Cabelas for $20 for 250 shells. Five years ago it was $50 for 250 shells. Today it is $110. I now shoot 50 birds twice a month. The saving grace is that all of my shotguns and associated clothing and accessories are sunk cost but the recurring cost of shells is killing the sport for the average shooter. I would start reloading again but components (primers) are expensive and hard to find.

    Great video David. I started shooting in January. Been having lessons and decided to go for one with David. Had an amazing time and walked away from the Oxford gun company with ear phones, glasses and having put a deposit down on a gun, only problem is they still have the gun as I’m still waiting for my certificate to be granted. As mentioned the cost on ongoing lessons is prohibitive and you feel like it’s costing a lot but your not progressing as much as you should be because you can’t get out and practice on your own.

    Cartridges have gone through the roof in the past few years , a slab of 250 costs what we used to pay for 1000..
    It's still great fun and yes you can set up on a budget , cartridge costs are hurting though.

    I took my grandson to a have a go session at a local ground, whole experience lasted 22 mins and cost £68. He shot one target only, a teal, this is not the way to encourage youngsters into shooting, he’s only 11, but thanks to my local club he’s found the help and encouragement he needs. As for the shooting school which is a Premiere ground, they were disgraceful

    If you are on a tight budget, you cannot afford to shoot full stop. A 100 reg event will cost on average £80-£100, inc fee's, cartridges, fuel and food - A bit cheaper if you live close by. Even your local Sunday club shoot (50 bird) is going to cost around £25-£30 just to shoot it (Fee + cartridges)

  • @stevemartin641
    @stevemartin641 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Plenty of Sunday shoots about. All enthusiasts keen to engage the newbie. Can't do much about cartridge prices but most are happy to share spare kit - including gun - and the advice is free. Typically £5.00 for 25 clays makes for a cheap morning out

    Old lanber would be the way i would go they will still hold there own against modern guns all kit can be had reasonably affordably from skeet vests to every other essential bits of basic kit you could get all the clothing and protective equipment for under £150

    I shoot and the honest truth is that clay shooting hasn't been cheap for several years now.
    Going once a fortnight to shoot 100 clays will set you back £130 - £150 a month. By the time you add fuel a couple of coffees and a couple of bacon butties it's the thick end of £200... just to go twice a month! Add to this the kit etc. and it ain't cheep.
    The only 'cheep' shooting to be had is on permissions where you are allowed to do a bit of rough walked up alongside some crop protection/ pest control etc.
    Shooting has never been a 'cheep' hobby... never has... never will be.

      Wow. I’m a bog standard, hard working family man from Yorkshire. I manage to clay shoot, be on a pheasant syndicate and deer stalk. Mate, it’s not that expensive. Let’s be honest, £6.50 for a box of 12g cartridges is reasonable for a twice a month clay outing. £20 for a box of .243 that’ll put 20 deer in your freezer is CHEAP. Pheasant shooting costs more but I’d spend that same on a weekend with the lads so why not have a day out doing something fantastic in the field.

  • @168dac
    @168dac 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Buying the gear is the cheap part, shooting clays is where the real cost is. With the average price of clays now anywhere between 30p & 40p each and cartridges at £240/1000 this isn't a sport that someone who can only afford to spend £500 on the kit to get started should even be considering.
    Shooting, unfortunately has always been said to be, a rich mans sport and never has that been more true than it is today.
    I'm sorry, but these are the facts. Yes you might be able to buy all the gear for £500 but what's the point in that if you can't actually afford to go out and shoot on a regular basis. The minimum cost that you're looking at to go and shoot 50 clays is £30 and that doesn't include the cost of getting too the ground. Making videos like this are pretty pointless really.

    Shooting on a budget is what i do 5 pounds ear plugs no glases no hat no jackett trousers with big pocketts dont even have a gun bag open the action and a grocery bag to tote my shells and water that it 6 pounds in all most American shooters do this no pomp here
