Loghain's motivation was that eamon and cailan were planning to divorce his daughter and marry the empress of orlais and merge the 2 nations together. That was the rumor going around anyways that eamon was planning that. The last straw was when cailan asked for orlais to send chevaliers to help combat the blight. He hated orlais and didn't want to see the kingdom fall to orlais again that's why he betrayed cailan. He also disliked the wardens at the time because they were banished for centuries in ferelden and most of the wardens that came to the newly created ferelden order were orlesian wardens.
In his mind he was the good guy and believed that he was the only one who could stop the blight and save ferelden from orlais. That was his motivations all along. Which is why loghain is actually one of my favorite villains in any game series... because he actually thinks he's the good guy.

Kind of sucks that this makes so many people approve or disapprove of the action. It's pretty obvious that the Grey Wardens are important to the cause, even if Corypheus can corrupt them. They'll all be glad of the Inquisitor's choice for sparing them when the next Blight shows up.

I listened to the dialogue between Vivienne and Blackwall recently, and she seems to believe the Wardens are a relic of a bygone era. She believes them to be utterly pointless, seeing as the last Blight was ended with just two Wardens, so all these guys running around conscripting is seen as a hilariously wasted effort to her. Plus she's none too pleased about the ones at Adamant summoning demons and making human sacrifices for their blood magic. She's not too keen on blood magic, of course. :)

Yeah I heavily disagree with what the other guy was saying. The armors in DA:O were very bland for the most part and largely recolors. There were a few unique sets that were cool, but all of the generic sets were just that - generic recolors. There were like 2 main types of heavy armor, leather armor, and robes and then each of them were recolored several times - and the color schemes were all really drab too. The designs from 2 and Inquisition were much more unique.

I didn't like how Origins story had such a railroad feel to it. Yes, we could choose how the story unfolded but the amount of choice in the narrative was too limited. For example at Ostagar, I would have loved to have had the choice of joining Loghain because I agreed with his assessment of the situation. Cailan was a young and selfish fool who treated being King like a game and didn't care about anything beyond his own personal glory. I'm glad he died. Also, Loghain was right that Wardens did kill him in a sense. They didn't physically kill him, but his fascination with their legend blinded him and caused him to overestimate the impact that our Wardens could've had on the battle. There was no victory to be had at Ostagar, and I hated that I was forced to be fight against Loghain, a man that my Wardens didn't really want to because they agreed with him.

During a dialogue between the Warden and Duncan, the latter heavily implies the aforementioned. Loghain, on the other hand, is a practical war veteran, who knows what has to be done. Precicely. The Wardens are instrumental to the survival of Thedas. And besides, who is to say that the Archdemons really are these Old Gods? That's just Chantry propaganda, and the Chantry has been proven to be wrong about many things. What if they're wrong about that, too? What if there are more Archdemons to be awoken? What if there will always be Archdemons? But even *if* there would be only two, or three more... Then until then, everything the Wardens ever do is justified.

No one is saying that he was a perfect person. He's not. However, everything he did, he did for Fereldan (a cause that he felt was worth any means to defend). He fought for years for Fereldan's freedom, just to see a boy king ready to hand the kingdom over to would be usurpers. He apposed the Grey Wardens because: a) In the past the Grey Wardens tried to take over Fereldan. b) He looked at the Grey Wardens as potentially Orlesian spys. c) He believed that the Grey Wardens purposely lit the torch late, thus killing the king. Let's face facts, even if he'd charged the moment the torch was lit, the king still would've died. For all of these reasons he fought the Wardens tooth and nail, believing they meant the death of Fereldan sovereignty. Everything else he did can be explained as ignorance. Why did he allow Fereldan to slip into chaos? Because he didn't trust anyone other than himself to lead Fereldan through the trouble ahead. Everything he did was for Fereldan. His biggest mistake was thinking that he could defeat the blight without the Wardens (he didn't know about the archdemon).

I spared Loghain in the first game and was actually taken aback when Alistair got butthurt about it. At the time I just thought we obviously needed more Wardens and becoming one is a death sentence anyway so sparing him just made the most sense. When Alistair left I was like fine leave be that way. I then hooked up with Loghain’s daughter on the side to become King and left her once royalty got boring to rejoin my witch girlfriend, and then Alistair becomes king eventually anyway so no downside to it in the end. But what surprised me was how much I actually ended up liking Loghain. He gets major character development, he truly feels remorse for his betrayals and sets himself on the path to become an excellent Warden. And then in the Fade he’s ready, he’s willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good without a second thought. Tells you to pick him to die. I did. An honorable death for an honorable man, I thought it was a perfect ending to his character arc.

Add that up to the lives of Inquisition soldiers lost in the conflict. Cassandra is a Seeker, who has no love for demons and blood magic either, on top of accepting Warden's help leaves them vulnerable in case Cory will outplay them with a Venatori ambush or something like that. And Solas is generally opposing the abuse of the denizens of the Fade, especially fully concious one, that's why he is pissed.

I like much the effort I have personally to save Loghain.
First, not to choose Alistair to fight against Loghain.
Second, you must choose that Loghain become a Grey Warden.
Third, you must participate on Morrigans Ritual.
And finally... you must choose that Hawke stayed in the fade.
After I read the books I really like Loghain. He also saw no other options as retreat from Ostagar after the signal comes to late. It was never his intention to let Cailan die.
His cruel mistakes did he do as Regent. First to blame the Grey Warden for the death of Cailan, (he really thought this way I think, because of the signal for example) torturing Riordan, make Howe to an important man, sell elfs into slavery (very hard) and poisened Eamon (the worst)
But he really did all of this because he thought this is the best for Ferelden. He did nothing for his own beneficial.
And in the end, he saw how strong the Warden is and he see that he was wrong, that he is the only one who can save Ferelden.
He dont deserve for me to die in the Landsmeet.
And on my play through and world state... all possible Grey Warden or former Grey Warden lives.

If Alistair killed Loghaine, Anora refused to marry him, despite previously convinced.
The only option to have both Anora and Alistair on the throne was for me to kill Loghain myself.

My first time playing this game in 2014 I used the base world state, so I had stroud, a year or so back I made a world state and started again but never got past hinterlands, been replaying it it a couple weeks got 80 hours in it, the world state I made ended up having stroud also, would of been cool to see Loghain

One thing I’ve always wondered is do we really trust Loghain to lead the Wardens? I spared him so he could redeem himself through just being a regular warden, fighting Darkspawn and seeking new recruits, not becoming the Warden Commander of Orlais. Idk it’s just after the shit he pulled in Origins I’m hesitant to give him the power to potentially make decisions like that again. Alistair, who remained a warden in my secondary world state, I fully trust to lead, same with Stroud even if his character isn’t that interesting, but even though the game makes clear he knows he screwed up I just dont know if he’s right for leadership. That’s how I try and justify saving my Hawke XD

kocashima yeah that’s another reason I left him in the fade in Inquisition. It kinda felt like I robbed him of his heroic sacrifice moment once by doing the dark ritual so I decided he could have it here instead.

Because he is also a damn good tactician and soldier in the middle of an attack of darkspawn. Those do not come by easily. He also had a lot of power and inffluence and that is also not so easy to come by, either.
I killed him too, just pointing out it was harder to decide than you think.

You are no one to judge whether another human being lives or not, I dare say you are not flawless. In the moment the life of anoher, no matter who, is in your hands, and decide to kill, you are no better than him or her.
But I'm not going to morally convert people here. I can see why you would think this way and I respect that. After all I have not been in such situation and hopefuly never will, perhaps I will behave different should it happen.

If you talk to him a bit more, he didn't immediately go into hiding either.
He was quietl researching Corypheus. Some corrupted Wardens got wind of this, and attacked him before he could find out more. He killed them in self defense, but everybody thought he had murdered them for their participation in the blood ritual.

They really fucked up here. They had a chance to have some great dialogue cutscenes between Loghain and Morrigan, to really follow up on the weird 'impregnate ritual' story line from Origins, but instead _this_ is all we get; a trivial, throw-away line in Loghain's final scene in the game.
In Skyhold, Loghain is standing not 30 feet from his son and the mother of his child, and yet, what, he just stays away, doesn't say a word? And Morrigan doesn't even mention that the kid's father is just up a flight of stairs when you talk to her?
It's like the writers just _forgot_ that Loghain is that kids father if you managed to keep Loghain alive for Inquisition.

    • @Cynistrelle
      @Cynistrelle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1
