Alistair will make an appearance too.
Any equipment you had on Alistair will be lost in this case, unless you make him go nude to the landsmith.

I went this route to fullfil Duncan's desire to protect the child of his friends and to not deprive the Grey Wardens of a fine warrior. Alistair gets to live and Loghain pays penance for his crimes against Ferelden by bearing the taint of the very beings that threatened to wipe his beloved country off the map.
Loghain will appear in dragon age inquisition if he survives DAO.
the best part of this? punish Morrigan by having her get it on with Loghain ^^

It is logical, poetic justice, that you're forced to serve the very same order you tried to destroy so badly.
He didn't try to destroy the Grey Wardens so much as he sacrificed them. Ostagar was a lost cause, and blaming the Wardens seemed necessary because Loghain could not afford to lose public's trust.
Also, despite what romantic notions Duncan indoctrinated into Alistair, becoming a Warden is an extended execution and deadly punishment anyway.
@@brahmantyoihsan5938 Ostegar was a lost cause because Loghain abandoned them. There was no indication that they would be routed until he quit the field. It was the expectation of his troops and their non-appearance that lost the day.
@@sabbywins The fact that the signal was late is that indication. It was supposed to be an easy job, yet the two wardens were far behind the schedule. It can only mean one of these two things:
1. The Grey Wardens betrayed them and deliberately withheld the signal.
2. The darkspawn managed to breach the tower.
It was the second scenario, but the tower was located behind Ferelden defensive line, which means the darkspawn have also managed to flank Cailan force from behind. The Hammer-and-Anvil plan would have failed because the Anvil had been compromised. Why would Loghain follow their original plan, when it was obvious the battle did NOT go according to plan?
But for argument's sake, let's say Loghain join the battle. What would that accomplish?
1. There's no guarantee they could reach Cailan in time, since the idiot volunteered to be on the frontline.
2. Loghain would be risking thousands of soldiers just to save one idiot king who wasn't even supposed to be on the battlefield. If that happens, they may not have enough numbers to hold the next assault, or to repel the Orlesians if they invade Ferelden again.
3. It won't prevent the horde from entering the mainland, not when there are multiple Deep Roads entrances within Ferelden. We know there are such entrances in the Hinterlands, Gwaren and Amaranthine.
4. Even if they somehow managed to win the battle and kill every darkspawn on the field, the absence of the Archdemon means they won't be be any closer to ending the Blight. Ten thousand casualties means nothing to the horde. The shaperates of Orzammar estimated the Fifth Blight horde was even larger than the First Blight.
5. Even if the Archdemon *does* appear in the battle, they would have no way to kill it - not when the Wardens are trapped on the frontline fighting for dear life. Stupid Duncan sent them to the meat grinders, knowing full well Wardens are the only ones who could kill Archdemon.
@brahmantyoihsan5938 I absolutely agree. Duncan knew wardens were needed, but he sent every last one of them to die in the battle. He could've at least sent half.

Max settings also cause game to crash every hour, on my last playthrough i played on medium.
Max settings are horrible for this game, crashes all the damn time, no matter how powerful your PC is..... I can run DA:1 on max and it's fine, this game crashes all the time though. Idk why
No it's not, it's a modded texture. Max settings don't look like this in an unmodded game.
Gonna play this sometime on my gamming laptop. It can normally games from that era on max settings with no trouble, and can probably even handle Fallout 4 on... higher settings, though I use relatively low ones to run it smoother.
I'll keep this in mind for when I get around to it.

I messed up and didn't realize I had to harden Alastair for this. I didn't even know that was a thing.
Hardening Alistair and Leliana was very morally complicated.
That innocence was commendable, but also a liability.
Alistair would have bankrupt Ferelden's treasury to support his half-sister.
If Leliana returned to spycraft, she'd have been as vulnerable as she was before fleeing Orlais.

@@marcusblackwell2372 At the end of Alistair's personal quest, tell him " Everyone is out for themselves. You should learn that." There will be a follow-up convo at camp once you get his approval up. So long as you DON'T say "That's not what I meant." he will be hardened.

I don't think it makes sense. Alistair never wanted to be king. I understand he'd be offended and leave, but he wouldn't go be that which he has resented all his life. It's ridiculous, even he knows it.

I hated turning on Alastair, but this made the most since for my character. I played a city elf who at the start of the game HATED humans. And didn’t really give a crap about the greywardens/darkspawn cause he was stuck in the alienage. But after Ostagar, and working with Alastair, Lelianna, Wynne, and falling in love with Morrigan, he learned that not all humans are the monsters he thought they were. And became a better leader and grey warden because of it.
My warden at the beginning of the game would have killed Loghain without a second thought. But after everything that he’s been through, he knew that even though he still hated Loghain for his betrayal, knew that his personal feelings would have to come second to the fate of Thedas, and if sparing him meant there were more grey wardens to throw at the arch demon, then he’d happily hand him that darkspawn blood. Because it’s what his friend Alastair taught him.
Now this is a character arc. Nice imagination

i love rollplaying my characters too! The game doesn't give the choices to have an internal monologue, but if i want my character to have one without breaking the story and lore of the game, then i say yes to that. A lot of fun and replayability doing it.
No I played the dalish elf who was forcefully recruited in the warden ranks and hates/dislikes human or at best is indifferent. The humans done so much crime against elves that it isnt forgivable.

Do all missions in Howe’s Dungeon and go to the tavern in Denerim to get Noble support
(Optional) save Vaughn and do trial of the crows quests for extra support
Set up Alistair and Anora to marry before entering the Landsmeet
Have anyone but Alistair duel Loghain
Choose “I thought you and Anora were going to marry”
Then Loghain has three fates after this
He lives with your death in his shoulders
He fucks Morrigan
Or he dies
Morrigan option is probably the worst of 3

In my canon, Warden is a female Human Mage who romances Alistair and stays his mistress, marries him to Anora, Loghain lives to father Kieran so we get another Warden in the world, Bhelen king, anvil saved, Mages saved, werewolf curse cured, saved Amaranthine, saved the Architect, everyone survived keep battle, Hawke male mage Merril romance, Isabella came back with tome but killed Arishok anyway, Carver is a Grey Warden, sided with the mages, still working out Inquisition, so far saved and recruited mages, which is canon anyway the exception being whether you recruit or capture them
Morrigan is ruthless and bloodthirsty, i recorded all 3 games playthrough in which i denied morrigan her way. The most pleasure was in DAI when i didnt let her drink from the well, me being elven mage lol. I wonder what will become of her in the 4th game, assuming we can import choices.
ixthUA probably have to import The Keep, that’s the only explanation as to why Inquisition choices are in it

funnily enough, but the only ending where Alastair hates or resents the warden is when the Warden marries Anora. Even drunken alastair admits he missed the warden as a friend. But that specific ending has him hate your guts
Alistair is a naive man who nver learned how the real world worked. Once he finally gets broken of the assumption that your Warden is a pushover who can't lead, he is the perfect Grey Warden. I couldn't kill him once he realized he was wrong.

To harden Alistair, you need to do his personal family quest and then pick the dialogue option that says "Everyone is out for themselves; you should learn that" or "Get over it" (might be paraphrasing but similar to that). If you were too nice to him after the meeting with his sister, he remains softened and will throw a tantrum at the Landsmeet.

Reading The Stolen Throne(SPOILERS AHEAD), it's interesting how Loghain made the same mistake as Meghren.
Origins is till the best. Arl Eomen is one of my favorite characters. It really pissed me off we never got to see him again.

I spared Loghain because I heard it would come in handy later, but it did fit the character played as. Specifically, I played as a casteless dwarf who, frankly, got by in life by taking every advantage he could get. He was loyal to his friends, but he wasn't about to let an opportunity like this go.

I did exactly this but for some unknown reason when I mention that “I thought you two were going to marry” I get a different outcome to the point I have to choose who becomes ruler. I’m pretty damn sure I hardened Alastair. I told him he wasn’t alone and that he had me as family. Unless that didn’t hardened him then I completely fucked up and I really don’t want to restart this god damn game.

@@ixthUA Yup. After writing that comment, I looked up on how to harden Alastair and notice that you have to tell him that everyone is looking out for themselves. I then realized I never told him such a thing so I got pissed and started a new game. I’m one of those people where if there’s a good ending to a game and there’s a guide on the internet to follow, then I’m following that guide to the good ending to a T cause I love good endings.
I believe you have to tell him that everyone is out for themselves after you leave Goldanna's house.

he will completely leave the team, you can only talk to him again in the post-game.
He has one more dialogue in Eamon's estate after the Landsmeet, but that's it. Otherwise, you can only talk to him again if you survive to the end.

I can understand why he was agry but in same time I felt so betreyed.I was his friend ,I helped to grow a spine and I sincely though he could be a great king with Anora. But he left you in need and how much was hard for you making this choice (just dalish and drawf haven't problem with Loghain). I was pissed with him,my warden was Tabris,she disliked Loghain like Alistair but if she learnt something violence isn't the answer and big good. Also i think living like a warden is punishment,being a warden suck
that's why I love DAO characters feel human both in emotion and action. both Alistair and Morrigan do terrible things to the player if they don't get what they want (abandoning you and saying terrible things to you) although the player maybe the most important person to them or their best friend yet just like in real life they lose their cool and say and do things they don't mean yet both come to regret it later on and try to fix things Alistair in awakening seems to return friendly to the PC and Morrigan tries indirectly to have you come with her through the eluvian by telling you about your son
and i whole heartedly believe both will regret it for the rest of their lives if you made the ultimate sacrifice
@@voidofastora6032 What a selfish way of seeing things. "Why doesn't Alistair not do what is best?" Because he thinks its best to kill a traitor like Loghain and bring him justice. This line of thinking sounds more like "why doesn't Alistair do exactly what I want?" You want to mold the characters so that you can be friends with everyone and have the "bestest" ending of: being the hero, the one who killed the archdemon, the one grey warden who didn't die, the one who stopped Loghain by pardoning him, who was friends with everybody despite doing things that are not according to their principles and motivations. All of this sounds much more of a tantrum than anything Alistair ever did.

"I am sorry, but a Grey Warden's duties take precedence even over vengeance." (Duncan in Human Noble prologue)
And unlike Howe, Loghain was not driven by greed. He did it all for Ferelden.
1. He retreated from Ostagar to preserve the army. Who knows what would happen in the Battle of Denerim, if Loghain had thrown away all his soldiers at Ostagar.
2. He poisoned Eamon to prevent him from dividing the country. He knew Eamon would never accept Cailan's death, and that Eamon has enough influence to rally the other nobles against him.
3. He sold the elves to obtain the fund to equip Ferelden army. It's terrible, but if they couldn't stop the Blight then everyone will die, including the elves.

You need to harden Alistair first by choosing "everyone is out for themselves; you should learn that by now" after his personal quest. Don't codle him with comforting words, or he will stay unhardened.

She betrays you if you don't accept her deal or even talk about executing Loghain.

How the hell do you get Anora to side with you. Legit every time she betrays me in the landsmeet it’s ridiculous
before landsmith agree to make her queen, then broker a marriage between alistair and anora. anora will side with you, then if alistair is hardened he will marry her. if loghain dies anora will cancel the agreement.
@@ixthUA Anora will only cancel the marriage if her supposed partner executed Loghain. You can execute Loghain and have Alistair marry Anora, or the opposite.

Well he didn’t execute Alastair, realistically making Loghain a grey warden makes absolute 100% sense.
Alastair shouldn’t be so against it either, one of the grey wardens sole purposes is to seek out conscripts and recruit, no matter what their crimes, Duncan conscripted that thief in the beginning if you remember. loghain is a commander of armies, with much experience and is a perfect match for what grey wardens look for, and if Duncan was alive, he’d have taken loghain himself. Alastair should honestly understand why you’d conscript loghain
@@FosterC144 Not only that BUT Alistair knows about The Calling and he knows that becoming a warden is a glorious death sentence yet he has massive issues with it. Not to mention he agrees to marry Anora first and than he suddenly doesnt want to.

You need to harden alistair. Finish his personal quest and choose certain replies when you speak with him afterwards (there is a guide on the net).

You need to fight loghain yourself. If alistair fights him - he will kill him.
@@ixthUA Oh i used Sten first and after i choosed Alstair as King,he killed him and I choosec Alistair after a reload save thinking it wouldn't matter. Oh well. Maybe next playthrough. I am currently playing Awakening expansion for the first time. I am new to the series.
@@Jesse12489 You also need to make a marriage agreement between alistair and anora. Then if you fight loghain yourself and save him - alistair will say: if this is what required to see justice - i will become a king. If alistair is not hardened - he will become a drunkard.
