I love these ideas! I was asked yesterday for a card, and I didn't have any. Guess what's getting made tonight? In 3 of the matted pieces, I'm making out people
What started out as sketchbook work with a limited palette, (one of your ideas in another video) I now have started a series of small, matted originals at lower cost. 5x7 matted to 8x10, and also 7x10 matted to 11x14. I like the idea of using some for gift cards when someone purchases art as a form of thank you card.
Thanks, Chris. Initially, I thought the painting was exciting, until you stopped (not your usual style). Then you showed what to do with our experimental pieces and 'holy cow' these were terrific. Just shows to go that we should keep our judgements at bay. And, not care what "others may prefer".
I’m really enjoying your abstract lessons. I’m not sure yet even if I should have any expectations! But I’m enjoying the experimentation. I love bright colors, but now I’m going to do the black and white challenge. I don’t know where I’m going, but as the little rascals used to say “I don’t know where I’m going, but I’m on my way!” Thank you so much for opening this door.
Thanks so much, Luann! Haha...I love that quote, it's perfect for abstract painting. I go into every painting with no expectations other than "I'm going to paint" and the excitement of seeing where the painting takes me. Play and have fun and the wonderful pieces will show up along the way.
Love how you work, you are just like me in the your method and boldness. May I ask how you FRAME your finished pieces!⁉️ Thanks so much for sharing. Its keeps me motivated to have access to other artists in their studios. I think we need to get together for real more than we do, in real world too.
Thanks, Dancing Queen! That would be great to be able get together with more artists in person. 👍 It really depends on the piece. Something like the small pieces that come from this video will probably just go matted in a small white frames, but I like to do either no frame or floating frames for the canvas and wood panels. How do you frame yours?
Thanks, Cowgirl Jane! I have not, but I love the idea of creating business cards with card stock and a gel plate! I'm going to give that a try. Thanks for the idea! ❤️
I love these ideas! And your paintings. And your color sense. Are you using acrylic! I would like to work with watercolor and various water soluble sticks and things and come up with pieces that are vibrant like yours.
Hi Chris. I recently found your channel and have enjoyed watching many of your videos. I'm curious as to how you would price those small, matted paintings. Thanks for all your teachings!
Thanks you so much, Lynne! The ones in this video I wouldn't charge very much for, maybe $25. They were quick fun little pieces. It would depend on the quality of the painting, but normally somewhere between $50-$70.
I LOVE these ideas! Do you brush on anything to seal the Neocolor II water-soluble pastels so they don"t move/smudge? Thanks for sharing these ideas Chris!
Thanks, Pam! I spray these with Krylon Workable Fixatif Spray - amzn.to/442Diey first and then give them one thin coat of varnish. The fixitive will keep the pastels from smearing. Hope that helps 😊
In this piece it was a piece of gessoed 400 gsm watercolor paper by Bellofoy. Unfortunately, I can't find this paper anymore. I'm down to my last few sheets. I also use 300 gsm watercolor paper. Hope this helps.
Does anyone have any tricks for overworking a painting? How do you come back from that? I just ruined a lovely A2 canvas with a single stroke. Also, a waste of paint, very expensive
That sounds really tough! A good way to avoid overworking is to limit your time for your painting session. That will help avoid the temptation to overwork details. Then when you come back to the painting you can look at it with fresh eyes. If you do overwork, consider adding a new layer of color or texture to reset the area. Don’t be too hard on yourself-every artist has these moments. I do it all the time.
I think it would be better NOT to speed them up sometimes. Because even though you are saying you aren't thinking when it's sped up it gets exaggerated and I'd like to really see how long it takes you between each addition of an element
When you cut them up and frame them, do you think it would be a good marketing strategy to sell them for a dollar just to get you work out there. Not you personally, a beginning Artist.
Hey Minna! That's a great question. You could ask 100 different artists and get 100 different answers to that question. My personal thought is $1 is too low. Many people will shy away from art with low price tags because they think something must be wrong with it if it is so inexpensive. If it were me, I wouldn't go lower than $15-$20 for a 5x7 inch painting. But, with that said, do what you think is write. I've sold 9x12 practice paintings for $10 before and was happy to do so. I hope that helps😊

Here is a seventh idea. Those four abstracts could be printed onto four coffee mugs. They would make a unique set of mugs and a great gift.
Great idea Mark! I've done a few mugs before. Still drink out of one.
Also, you can make a simple silhouette mask from a file folder and paint around it., leaving a colorful fish or bird, etc. On a dark background.
That's a really interesting idea! Love it!🐟

Thanks, Becky! Funny how things line up at the right time. Have fun making your cards!😊
I love the idea of bookmarks. Just love to read ❤
Thanks, Susan! You and me both!😊
These are great ideas. I usually find parts of my abstracts that I like, even if the whole painting doesn’t wow me
Thanks, Denise! It's funny when you look at the pieces. You usually can find some pretty amazing 'hidden' areas that you might not have noticed.
Got it right! Too much mind can ruin everything. Glad I found you
Thanks, Julie! I think that's something we all struggle with when it comes to art. Probably not enough thinking when it comes to other things 😂
Love these ideas and have greeting cards I haven’t messed with yet
Thanks, Kelly! ♥️ Greetings cards are quite fun to play with and rewarding.
Great video Chris and ideas. Colours are amazing and texture. Love it all.
Thank you so much, Jen!

The colour combination is lovely.
Thank you, Ailish!
Another idea for collage, you can print on rice paper as well as on parchment paper 😊
Great suggestions! I didn't know you could print on parchment paper. I'll have to give that a try!
@@chrisloudart you need to attach the paper on cardstock with a fine line of a glue stick where the paper feeds through the printer.
@@HandmadeJournalsbyFran2022 👍Thanks!
Neat! Have you used business card, card stock? I do that using my gel plate. Also use Avery labels.
Thanks, Cowgirl Jane! I have not, but I love the idea of creating business cards with card stock and a gel plate! I'm going to give that a try. Thanks for the idea! ❤️

Thanks, Kathe! Yes, I'm using acrylics, however, I just started playing with watercolors, so hopefully I'll do some WC videos soon.
Hi Chris. Love what you did.Thank you for sharing.

Hi sir this is very interesting, what could be the theme of this painting.
That's a great question! Any ideas?
@@chrisloudartto me is fun of colors,
