    Yup, definitely has more features than my 885. I’m sad. Great video! Glad you’re enjoying your new home in Texas! Looking forward to hearing how you think it smokes compared to the Brunswick. So far I don’t think this style gives as much smoke flavor, well with my Traeger anyway. Love that it has the removable burn pot too. I have to use a vacuum to get my ash out! 🙄 Ugh. 3 shelves too. And the pit boss comes with the foldable shelf stock Oh my! 😮

    I have the Pitboss CS 1250, I've had it for about 2 years now and it has worked great. I did do some modification, I added a couple temperature gauges on each corner of the lid, I took out the diffuser Shield and put a piece of metal on the end closest to the built-in temperature gauge so all the heat doesn't hit the diffuser Shield and go up towards the temperature gauge ,now I have heat coming out equally and I have a more accurate temperature reading. I love the lid, the barrel roll type but when I first got it those bolts kept coming loose so use some threadlock on the two bolts that is holding the lid on. I do keep aluminum foil on my heat diffuser Shield, that away when I'm ready to do some searing I have a nice clean Heat shield that is easy to open to be able to sear . But every time I cook I do have a pellet tube and I usually fill that with charcoal pellets and it really helps on the flavor , I mean come on who doesn't love the charcoal flavor. And I did drill a bigger hole in the side for my temperature gauge wires , and I bought the rubber grommet that goes in there that allows you to push the temperature probe through but it seals up good around the wires. I mean I've done the same with my Weber grill I've modified it when you get a smoker make it your own, test to see where the heat is use some biscuits. I have never used any other type of pellet smoker so I can only review the Cs 1250 but with that said I've been really happy with as much food as I've been able to cook and everything has come out really good. I just really keep everything nice and clean and cleaning the burn pot once the smoker cool down so ash doesn't sit in there and get damp and start corroding the burn pot and that way I'm ready for the next cook.

    I bought this same grill about a month ago. I like it so far. It seems very solid. My fold down front shelf is a little different from the one shown here. There is a locking lever on each side that you have to engage/disengage. You can't just flip it up and it locks. Its not a big deal. A couple of negatives though. The middle and top grates are a little difficult to put in and take out. The Bluetooth and WIFI are basically worthless. You have to be within about 30 feet for the Bluetooth to work. The WIFI only works on 2.4 Ghz, so you have to jump through hoops to get that connected. So far, those are my only complaints.

    How are the internals holding up? My Pit Boss 1100 is a rust bucket inside, even though its cleaned regularly and covered 100%. The problem with the sliding sear plate is the metal is too thin and doesnt stand up to the high heat after a little while, and chips, rusts, and just falls apart. I have already been through 3 steel deflector/sear plates already, and 2 burnt pots, new controller board, new heat element, and new internal temp probe. Pit boss just uses cheap steel/equipment in these things i have concluded. When it works, it works great though, as long as pit boss continues to support under warranty and send out free parts. Not sure i will go with Pit Boss again though for my next smoker..

    • @GrillSergeant

      So after the burn off I did a test where I ran it at 375 and then I put my aftermarket probes in to see what the temp swings were. When it was coming up to temp it was running hotter than what it said on the display but right when it got to 375 it stayed pinned at 375 internal. When it comes to smoke flavor I found that trying different pellet blends out will help finding a flavor you are after. Biggest gripe about all these pellet grills are the controller placements and burn pot. Why are we in year 2024 and still have to hunch over just to read our pid controllers? Is there no way to elevate the controller so we dont have to bend at the hip everytime to change a setting or at least angle it up to make it easier to read? Also why cant you make a slide out burn pot to the front? We appreciate the easier removal on the bottom instead of using a vacuum and removing all the grates but theres still room for improvement. A simple latch on the front with a removable handle takes cares of the user

  • @supercellf5
    @supercellf5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So this is new ? I had planned on getting the PB 1150, but I’ve heard the no smoke stack units give better smoke flavor ? The more expensive units are like this I believe. Like the regular grates too over the x grates. Looks like a much better deal all around over the 1150. Your thoughts please.

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I really loved my 1150, it's a great smoker with a larger hopper but so far I'm really happy with the features of the 1600CS like the lid and the clean out bottom tray even though it's similar to the 1150 it has a cleaner and easier to use design to it. So far the lid is my favorite feature not having to lift a 50 lid above your head. If I wanted a workout, I'd join a gym. lol That being said I love how precise you can dial in the temp you want and when I used a 3rd party probe to see how off the set temp was from the actual temp it was the exact same. I've never seen that before. Most smokers will have a 10-20 degree temp swing. I can give better details after I get a few more cooks on it but so far I am loving the competition series!

    • @supercellf5
      @supercellf5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I had read that it didn’t feel as sturdy and well built as the pro 1150. It wasn’t the 1600CS it was the smaller version. Lid was much lighter which to me means thinner metal.

    Could you tell me if you like more the Competition 1600 or the Pro series 1600 Elite PSE ?!

      So I like the PSE vs the CS1600 but I like the new CS Titan over the PSE

    No smoke stack. Is the smoke discharged through the back?

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No smoke stack. Smoke rolls around the barrel and exits via slits in the back. As far as holding set temps I did a test where I set it to 375 and when I checked my 3rd party temp probe it was pinned at 375. I've never seen a smoker actually be at the exact same temp. Usually there is a 20-30 degree swing sometimes. So far I am loving the 1600CS.

    How thick is the steel? Is it double walled?

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1/2" steel. lol It is not double walled like the Pro Series 1150 I had but so far this thing comes up to temp faster than any other pellet smoker that I've owned. Holds temps spot on as well.

      @@GrillSergeant rah. Thanks for response! I couldn't find anything on thickness anywhere online.

    Good luck with that smoker. I hope you find a way to burn some fat with the pellets or come up with another method to get that offset smoker smoke ring flavor.

    Pit Boss no longer needs stacks given that all the smoke leaks out of the lid.

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL! That was my fear but the lid design closes pretty good so it's not an issue.
