- "Man, Mario 64's camera is kinda booty" - a jobless dude, probably.
As one of the earliest true ventures into the third dimension, Super Mario 64 had the tall task of framing its expansive world in ways that benefited the player's perception of said world. There's a lot to say about the tools provided to handle the camera, for better and worse, but look, I don't got time for all that mumbo jumbo, so instead I just wanna talk about how FUNKY it is!

Extra Note:
This is the first full fledged video I've edited in premiere pro. I'd like to bid a heartfelt farewell to Sony Vegas. You will not be missed dawg. Secondly, for any shorter vids with not a lot of graphics that focus on older games I'll make the aspect ratio 4:3 just so I don't have to worry about unnecessary backgrounds and whatnot, so make sure to load up this on your CRT :) - เกม
telling my grandkids this was scott the woz
0:54 I heard the same sentiment in the manual of "102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue". "You are the cameraman!" it says, with extra keyboard buttons / console buttons to manually pan the camera with.
I believe the fixed camera mode is used mostly blindfolded speed runs. Actually pretty interesting what strategies they use, would highly recommend looking into it!
Very fun video for such a simple topic. Well put together. I'd love to see you tackle more UI or control quirks in games.
Alternate video title: It's you, not the controller!... sometimes
PC port fixes the camera. Hope all the romhacks get ported over
the mario 64 camera is damn impressive it is actually a work of genius considering the time and also it sucks so much i hate it it’s bad i’m not gonna meatride it it’s so terrible ughghhhhhhhh
LOL fair enough
i am NOT A DAMN BOOGIE FAN!!!!!!
also, for the question you posed about games which give you a lot of control of the camera, the simpsons hit & run does :3 (although ig without cheats it's a little more limited......)
Can you 100% the game without touching the camera at all
I would def think so, although it would be awkward at times? Pretty sure I’ve seen some speed runners try out that challenge and similar stuff like “beating the game with only mario cam”
I don't think I ever really touched it as a kid
that wouldn't be difficult to do in the slightest. the fact that you even ask just goes to show how absolutely overblown and memed to death this game's camera is.
