    Finally!! As primarily a live event tech, who often is running a switcher, with graphics/video sources and camera ops, at a distance. I have been trying to find out about the possible preview abilities of this unit ever since it was released! Felt like I was trying to find the Grail! Concise, Clear and Comprehensive... Thank-you so much 👍😁

    I am an audio guy, big time. But I am a video noob and have been forced into the video game with COVID. I got the ATEM Mini and then had to learn how to use it. I have watched this particular video about 3 times but after the third time the light bulb went off and it all just stuck and I now have it "locked and loaded." That tells me that Joseph's tutorial was excellent and I just needed to catch up! Well done and thank you!

    Very helpful video! One thing I might add is that in order to get into the ATEM setup settings, you must be connected via USB. Those settings will be greyed out if you're just connected over ethernet. But if you access them with USB, you can then go in there and enable the settings to also be available over ethernet.

    • @photojoseph
      @photojoseph  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think given the price, it's unlikely they will add it (even if the hardware can handle it). It'd destroy their $1,000 switcher market. I think it's pretty legit NOT to have it at this price point, considering the target market (people making self-produced shows).

      PhotoJoseph Yeah, it’s definitely very powerful for the money. Just did a 24 hour live stream using a Roland V-60, and it was fantastic but overpowered for a 3 camera simple show. I wish there was a way to get the Mini for a day of testing before purchasing. Might just take the shot since it is so affordable.

    Thank Joseph, this is exactly what I was looking for! Very well explained :) I'm in the process of configuring my ATEM mini and got stuck on how to setup preview on the device itself and leave the USB C for webcam output only. It's going to be important not to combine streaming and software control on the same computer via USB. If I do need the software control then I connect an alternate computer via the network. Multiview would be cool for what I need but not essential.

When I record my gaming i use hdmi 1 for game hdmi 2 for camera, hdmi 3 and four are connected to the pc, one used as an chat preview, one used as web browser preview. And now i can change my monitor to chat, web, preview monitor and multicam (i have a pro version, but you can do it on streamdeck or whatever)

    Thanks for this video. I know the ATEM Mini Pro is just starting to hit the market, any changes you are aware of in terms of the USB-C webcam output with the Pro?
    In particular, I'm hoping that I can do multiview output via USB-C while still being able to maintain program output via HDMI. The reason why is this would allow me to do two things:
    A) Send the program output to my Atomos Ninja V and from that also daisy chain a "return" monitor to as well (so the talent in front of the camera can look down and able to see which camera is being broadcast). Another potential reason to have program output via HDMI would be to use a projector to have the program view shown to an audience, etc.
    B) Still allow me to have OBS running (for nothing more than a "multi-view monitor") so while I am preparing to cut between shots, I can make sure the talent is in-frame before putting it on air.
    The problem would be if I you can only have multi-view output via HDMI. If so, then I can't then send that USB-C-based program output to the recorder nor return monitor nor projector. Unless, perhaps, the ATEM Mini Pro supports something other than what the original ATEM Mini supported - known as "UVC v1.5" output - via USB-C. If they are using a newer version of UVC on the ATEM Mini Pro, perhaps I could use this handy little adapter (www.febon.net/products/uvc-to-hdmi-uvc-to-ios) to convert this "webcam" output into an HDMI signal...?
    If you have any hot-off-the-press details on the multi-view capabilities via USB-C on the ATEM Mini Pro (either multiview support via USB-C -or- a newer standard of UVC on the USB-C port), would love to know! And thanks again for the great video!
    PS: I know the ATEM Mini Pro will let you record to the USB-C connection (which is super nifty in any of itself). If I didn't want to use an HDMI return monitor to show program output (or be able to hook up a projector), I could probably ditch the Atomos all together and just record to USB-C. But it can never be that easy.

    The HDMI Output on my ATEM MINI doesn't work as it should.
    In the ATEM Software Control, the 'Camera 1 Direct' option works, but none of the others do. I'd like to have the HDMI output as 'Preview' mode, so I can see the camera I am about to switch to.
    Have tried every available combination of different cameras, different HDMI cables, have tried two different output screens(projector and computer monitor), even tried putting a powered HDMI splitter between the HDMI Output and the screens.
    I saw on the BM forum that others have experienced this too, but I didn't see a fix - surely they have sorted this out!?!
    The ATEM Mini Firmware is at 8.6.1
    It is the original, most basic ATEM Mini
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

      Try a reset of the hardware. Put it in recovery mode by holding down the upper left “ON” button while connecting to power. That puts it into a state where a firmware update is required. Make sure you have latest firmware installed first (you don’t now).

    Great information on the device. Do you have a video demonstrating Picture in Picture and how to increase the size of it? Thanks for the videos you have up. I’ve already learned much.

    GREAT VIDEO, The best I've seen. Perhaps you could shoot a vid on this because there are a lot of us out there: How to use Aten Mini to broadcast PowerPoint over zoom with Picture in Picture of presenter on / beside the slide. At the moment I just use OBS to set up scenes and send the composite video over to Zoom through OBS virtual cam. Perhaps this is the best way and Aten is overkill, or perhaps Aten is a better way.... I don't know. One thing for sure I don't want to clutter my desk with multiple pcs. Ideally I'd like to do everything off my laptop (Zoom, PowerPoint) and maybe just get a small external monitor for previewing the Aten. I'd love to know the best way to do this as a regular Zoom Presenter.

      If you’re using Zoom, why not just share your screen and put slides there? Use the tools Zoom has for presenting slides?

    • @HowardOlsen
      @HowardOlsen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@photojoseph Because screensharing in Zoom reduces the presenter to a small square in the upper right corner. I've been using OBS to create a PiP with me on a greenscreen transparent beside the slide. That may still be the best way to go... Thanks

    Can you select inputs from OBS?

    • @photojoseph
      @photojoseph  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, just connect a computer as one of the ATEM inputs, and output to that “screen” from OBS

      I have a go pro 8 and bought the media mod case to get the HDMI output. it works but you'll need to spend some time tweaking the colours
