The wheel and pedals aren't off centre, the wide aftermarket seat is. The factory seating position puts you right up against the door so you can get a good view down the side off road (and also to allow for a middle seat)
I used to drive a 130. If I wasn't careful I'd hit my elbow when shutting the door. Used to wind the window down and stick my elbow out at every opportunity. 😆 Loved the 3 seats as could get my kids in next to me.
My sister had a Discovery 2 and I didn't really "get it" either... Until I borrowed it for a road trip that also ended up in camping. It was wildly loose on the motorway, but I genuinely fell in love with it, it did everything it was asked and more. She sadly had to let it go when it became "uneconomical to repair" but we still have the photos and the memories to go along with it. I now GET cars like these... Love it! Keep doing what you're doing chaps, you're smashing it out the park!
Yeah like I always tell people who believe Land Rover are crap. Everyone who owns one loves it. Its like an addiction. Bloody brilliant cars them old landys, they just keep on giving
People complain about Land Rovers but the truth is they will last a lot longer than anything else built today they were built to last and built to be repaired easily the second you buy one you fall in love with them as long as they have a galvanised chassis and a galvanised bulkhead then they will go forever they are the best at off-road as well I love them. Love the old defenders. And yes 6k for a 110 with a galvanised chassis is cery cheap
Very nice Rory. Don't you listen to Alex and Taylor when they take the piss mate. Land Rover 110's are awesome. After acquiring some more funds, I would highly recommend getting yourself a good quality 270° Awning. Much easier and quicker set up and better coverage(as long as you can access your roof top tent from the side of course). Galvanised chassis are fantastic to have as well. I'm also a big fan of the 4 door wagon. Doing a roof camper conversion on one of them would be awesome. Almost as good as a Toyota Troop carrier.
It's the aftermarket seat that is offset, not the pedals. How long until the standard half shafts break with those wheels on the end of them, place your bets! Ours with forward control wheels was always breaking them! TBH it looks like all the fancy show bits, but not anything that would improve the Landy.
Hi Alex, You and the guys should do another cheap car challenge but this time each of you buys a city car/ citybug I.e Peugeot 107, Citroen C1 and Toyota aygo. These little nuggets can be picked up rather cheap for under 1500 for a semi-decent example. The challenge would entail a race across London stopping by at famous landmarks along the way as checkpoints (this could be replaced with other challenges) the winner would be the first to visit all landmarks but the catch being you all start from different corners of London; North, South, East or west this could be decided by simply spinning a wheel. Hope you guys are all doing well and that you might expand on my comment and maybe even make a video from it 😅
I dont think you realise how much land rovers cost alone, rooftents are 5000 pounds. The windows were 2500 pounds. Sound proofing 2000 pounds. It soon adds up. Love land rovers theyre great
Having seen this make a few cameos in other videos I’m glad we finally got the lowdown on Rory’s 110. Be good to see semi regular fleet updates across the auto Alex family channels as I’m sure there are some that haven’t featured on TH-cam for a while.
Love this truck. I own a 1984 110 with a 200tdi and converted into a campervan with popup roof etc. It is unreliable, slow, noisy and even stinks to oil but I absolutely adore this car, it's the best and a real monster off road. I live quite close to you so feel free to give me a shout and I will turn up with that ultimate machine. PS: I don't think those rear benches are very legal for people to travel in them
Alex thinking the pickup cab was cut off and a hardtop welded on. Imagine what he’d do if he knew everything simply unbolts so it could suprise Rory with a convertable in a few hours (well apart from all that extra trim in the way that’ll probubly get destroyed - think this truck has been over accessoried which explains the cost).
Nice to see a proper Land Rover on the channel! :) My little 200tdi 90 will never be sold as much as its bloody uncomfy, noisy, wandering, money pits built in Birmingham I couldn't be with out it! It's Taken me to so many places around the uk and has been through some tough times but so many great times! Taking one up to 70 you must be mad!!!!!!!!! Think you should do a Landy fest!
We had a 110 five door station wagon style one at the hotel I work at. We all loved driving if about. It had the same engine as Rory's but was actually built to be a seven seater. It seemed a lot faster than Rory's though. Was a lot rustier than his so probably lighter as it lived on a cliff edge and was permanently covered in salt 😂.
Very very nice defender Rory I’m not a defender man myself but that is a very nice red one thing with your awning you might want to look at a 270° awning for example to bushwhacker it’s so much easier to set up and it’s freestanding
As a Defender owner we know how bad they are, but it’s the quest to make them better in your own individual way that makes ownership so awesome! Keep spending on Rory! (You know you will) 🤑🤫
i love these kind of videos and would REALY want to see a revieuw of that Luba 2 mower. I considered getting one but didn't in the end and am wondering if it is as great as everyone claims it is. Also would like to know how ur getting on with the RTK/GPS on it!
That is a nice one. Iv got 1980 series 3 that the previous owner put a defender bonnet and grill on, looks great but a shame really. Bonus is its tax and mot exempt, classic insurance of £59 a year fully comp!
Do we need to place Rory in a conservatorship here, between the cars he's lost money on and the cars he still has the man's a liability to his own bank balance.
Lots of lovely kit for a long outdoor adventure on the least appealing vehicle to take on a long adventure but it’s still a glorious thing. Nice job Rory.
You guys may see them as not appealing. But I promise you, us land rover enthusiasts who have gad them wouldnt choose anything else. Those old defenders do everything.
I want to see Betty. I love that Alex has fallen for a T25 and the build would be great to see, but in more detail. I’ve followed since the beginning but as much as I wait for every video and podcast to drop I get left feeling a little dejected when the videos seem rushed and with the rebuilds the lack of detail. Saying that I’ll still be waiting for them to drop, hoping for a in-depth rebuild of a vehicle that’ll be good on the channel and great for Alex’s upcoming family
t hese are strange vehicles. People always compare them to cars and road vehicles but in reality they are designed for the rough stuff. Would you get a F1 car and compare it to a road car. But as always it’s good to see that the guys (Alex and Taylor) are willing to admit they are wrong if they actually like the car or it makes them smiles. Keep up the good videos. Would like to see some of Taylor’s forever cars he has hid away
My only experience of these Landies is driving a SWB bright yellow one around at the weekend at an RAF gliding school. They are THE most uncomfortable and unrefined drive I've ever had the displeasure of driving. And if you're 6'3", you'll need to remove your lower legs too drive them, and book a chiropractor afterwards.
Station Wagons are much better for tall people since they have no bulkhead behind the front seats and they slide back another few inches. I'm 6'3" and could just about cram into my 110 CSW well enough for long drives without any real issues. I absolutely do not fit in single cabs or commercials though.
I’d really like to see a bit of a guide to BMW’s and what the numbers mean. I know what an E30 is now but when you guys say letters and numbers I have no clue what car/engine you’re on about. Yes I could just google it but I’d really like to see Taylor explain it to me instead! Just an idea. Love the content guys.
Nice to see something different to the usual, appeal to the huge Land Rover following audience and most importantly, seeing Alex be more open minded. Definitely appeals to a wider audience. More videos like this, almost like car reviews. How about some more crappy old British cars

If there is 30 grand in that car, it must be in a tupperware box somewhere.

It’s so easy to put money into a Defender, if he did that galv chassis swap that probably accounts for a lot of it.

Bucket seats in a land rover... That is just unhinged
Lots of land rovers have bucket seats. Look up bowlers, challenge trucks. Trialers, even modded defenders have them, its not uncommon
