LMFAOOOO SORRY! Did you ask Alban if the whole live performance was shit and the ones singing need to go back to lessons and stop using artificial things to make their music "sound good" on the internet and CD's?
@@TheBraine44 we just don't give a fuck. He said it's a great composition. Live performance may not be the greatest, you have to remember that none of them actuallly wanted to sing. They've improved alot live tho.
For anyone commenting on the crowd, they were on the same lineup as Artic Monkeys, John Meyer and Ed Sheeran, so that might explain why everyone was like O_o
Brann always has the best live drum sound. It's hard to get drums to sound big and heavy without sounding flubby and boomy while still cutting through the mix but not being overpowering. Their engineers definitely know what they're doing. The dudes doing Gojira's sound know what's up too
It's a festival mix. They sound fine here, it's just hard to find great mixes from festival performances unless they've been mixed and mastered by the band.
Hey guys they are amazing live ok? You only need them to lip sync the music and be mastered and mixed by the band only ok? You have to feel the music in your bones like James Bargar to really get the "live" performance. I personally can shit into a dumpster and make better noises with my asshole better than this. The instruments are damn good but the vocals are LITERAL SHIT.
When this CD first came out I must have listened to this song about 100 times in a row during my commutes back and forth from work. I then realized I would have to stop for a while because it was putting me in a....um....."mood". After I stopped spinning the CD in my car I recall it took a few months before my brain stopped spinning it continuously in my head. 😜🤐🤩😶🥺😬🤩
Metal is probably the only genre thats lucrative without touring. An acquired taste that doesnt attract spectators like before. No sold out arenas but fans will still buy the music.
Am I the only one who prefers Troy's vocals on this song live instead of the studio version? The way he enunciates some of the lines just sounds... badass.
Genghis Kon I feel that way in every song. Troy's live voice is fucking delicious. Its not bad studio version, but most the time its him screaming on the studio version
Must have been tough for the audience to hear Brann when he started singing Brent and Bill are a force of nature. Their tone is THICK and sounds soooo good
I saw this band back in 2001 in a little club in fayette ville Arkansas before they even made it big on relapse records they were not even signed yet but they tore it up
Oblivion Mastodon I flew beyond the Sun before it was time Burning all the gold that held me inside my shell Waiting for you to pull me back in I almost had the world in my sight Lost love, bright eyes fading Faster than stars falling How can I tell you that I've failed Tell you I failed Falling from grace cause I've been away too long Leaving you behind with my lonesome song Now I'm lost in oblivion I tried to burrow a hole into the ground Breaking all the fingers and the nails from my hand The eyes of a child see no wrong Ignorant bliss impending doom Lost love, bright eyes fading Faster than stars falling How can I tell you that I've failed Tell you I failed Falling from grace cause I've been away too long Leaving you behind with my lonesome song Now I'm lost Falling from grace cause I've been away too long Leaving you behind with my lonesome song Now I'm lost in oblivion Falling from grace cause I've been away too long Leaving you behind with my lonesome song Now I'm lost Falling from grace cause I've been away too long Leaving you behind with my lonesome song Now I'm lost in oblivion In oblivion In oblivion
Holy shit, this was great ! The best performance of Oblivion ever recorded pro shot ! What great vocals from Hinds ! Is there any other song proshot from Pinkpop ?
If I pay for a ticket to see a show. I can do what I damn well please(within reason of course) I'm the type of guy to sit there and listen to the music. I don't head bang I don't dance I pay to listen and see a live performance. For people to be angry I'm not thrashing around is stupid.
The crowd response from these guys has never satisfied me. I saw them at Mayhem last year and everyone was sitting. Granted they played none of their best songs like Oblivion, Divinations, Iron Tusk, Leviathan, or March of the Fire Ants. They are an amazing band, but live they just can't get the crowd jumping.
Jacko Rijzenga Mastodon played at around 6 to 7 on Mayhem. Side stages start at 12:00. I think Mastodon's live performances as of late just lack energy and performance. To be fair though most of the people there were for 5FDP and Rob Zombie....which means they all have an I.Q below 90 and can't grasp progressive metal and lyrics that don't involve punching people in the face cuz your angry.
Folks complaining about the sleeping guy. You clearly didn't hear the news story, that guy is dead. Brent looked him directly in the eyes during the solo and he was killed instantly.
+Matheus Salabert Mixing problem... the sound tech is a moron... who knows if they got to do a sound check or not but if they did, the mixer guy is useless
Producer: "Ok Mastodon band, whos gonna sing?"
Band: "Yes"
🤣🤣 I thought the same thing
Bill, in the corner: Nah, I'm good, you guys have a ball.
Funniest comment ever
The only rule for singing in Mastodon is "BILL SHUT THE FUCK UP"
@J.PC.Designs Bill has only done some backing vocals. So in a way, yes. But not in a way like a main singer like the other three guys. Cheers
The crowd seems not to understand Oblivion is one of the best composition of all rock and metal band these last 10 years.
Alban DA SILVA true
Then the mixing guy fucks the intro up.
Alban DA SILVA, 5:01, that guy gets it.
LMFAOOOO SORRY! Did you ask Alban if the whole live performance was shit and the ones singing need to go back to lessons and stop using artificial things to make their music "sound good" on the internet and CD's?

when a metronome wants to practice it uses a brann
That damn bass distortion on this song almost made me weep. I am not crying. You are crying.
How did you know?
I follow Mastodon since their beginnings. Maybe someone in the crowd was not ready to hear their sound. Best band in the last 20 years
Alongside gojira, and guess what, theyre touring together!!!!!
I see people enjoying themselves.
The public doesn't have to be JUMPING AND SCREAMING all the time to enjoy a performance.
Forget the vocals harmonies and the lazy crowd, that Zon bass sounds M E A N
Tom Collins it’s perfect.
Plus he absolutely kills it on vocals. Hands down one of the most underrated bassists/vocalists of all time
I've wanted a Zon since seeing Billy Gould with one back in the 90's. Unfortunately they cost more than my car....
Alex Hennigh absolutely
For anyone commenting on the crowd, they were on the same lineup as Artic Monkeys, John Meyer and Ed Sheeran, so that might explain why everyone was like O_o
I mean, metallica, limp bizkit and a7x were also on that lineup
The best drummers there were brooks wackermann and brann dailor
1:10 that is one strong P
Holy shit his killed me LOLOL
PPPull me back in
That means he definitely had strong feelings when singing. ALWAYS write vocals you enjoy and feel.
I cant stop pressing your comment lol
5:02 only guy who deserves to be there.
Completely agree
This dude is riding the craziest acid wave most likely 😂
5:17 but this guy looks to be lost in oblivion too

Tama Starclassic baby. My kit sounds just like this. Starclassic Bubinga.
I wish there was a live performance of mastodon where I could hear Brann singing more clearly.
It's a festival mix. They sound fine here, it's just hard to find great mixes from festival performances unless they've been mixed and mastered by the band.
Brokenscam they absolutely killed it last year at bloodstock. The sound was perfect
joe winkler You're an idiot. They're amazing live.

Na man mics are just really shit here.
The riff underneath the verses is so fkn evil...easily one of the best openers of any album. Can't say enough about Crack the Skye as an album.
one of the best songs ever created!!!
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA FUCKING DUMBASS
@@TheBraine44 Why so negative bro? Mastodon writes better stuff than you ever could
That verse guitar riff/drumming/singing is one of the coolest sections ive ever heard
Especially how it goes from 3/4 to a 4/4 chorus
Yeah, right.
The chorus is 8/4. The fast part before going back to 8/4 is actually a 3/8. And the verses are 3/4.
The bass is the loudest instrument
Mastodon and Gojira makes this world tolerable. Thanks for exist!
Meshuggah?
it's true ..
15 days from the first time I heard mastodon and I can't believe I've never heard of them before, what an amazing band
2:06: I don’t care what anyone says........this is the coolest kid in his school.
5:19 definitely on a trip
Brent makes a constipation face when he sings
1:23 and while playing
i don't care.... i have this huge crush on that man lol
Acid
Who the fook is Brent?
@@johnguanciale258 the lead guitarist (yellow shirt).

5:17 when that acid takes you to Oblivion.
Nah that's DMT
That's fucking hilarious
the bass sounds so mean on this recording!
just the way it should be
That initial chord transition gets me every time. I heard of this song like 10 years ago on Adult Swim lol and still 🔥🔥
Falling from grace cuz I've been away too long, leaving you behind with my lonesome song, now I'm lost in oblivion....
Always imagine walking into this festival in the morning and not knowing who powertrip were and wandering into this amazing set.
Wish it was me
Epic performance by Mastodon, those wild dudes on guitar can both really sing too, love it!
Brann is the best singing drummer ever
No shade but I think that's gotta be Levon Helm.
Brann is awesome, but also great is Don Henley from Eagles)
Don from the Eagles is absolutely one and the only.
Brent's vocals sound fucking unbelievable in this performance
i just met troy and he signed my guitar. we also had a q and a with him
Excuse meee? That’s epic. Where can I find this Q&A?
@@heylittleman8084 lmao sorry for the late response. It was with the School of Rock Program in Atlanta since they are local there
it's the first track I ever heard of Mastodon...brilliant track and I was here in 2014......awesome live performance!
You know i would complain about how dead the crowd is.
But then i realized this was in the Netherlands, so 90% is high anyway
Metal is probably the only genre thats lucrative without touring. An acquired taste that doesnt attract spectators like before. No sold out arenas but fans will still buy the music.
Im an old fart , i play old school hard rock ( vanhalen etc) these guys are fucking unreal . Such a great band . Im speechless
Just a fucking awesome band, this song is so well written
Fucking love the bass sound (4:24 you can hear it at its best)
Mastodon is the epoch of metal. Crack the Skye is imo, the best metal album of this century.
Hushed and grim is up there but I agree , the album is an anomaly
i feel the pain of singing this and playing it at the same time
The Whole Crack the Sky is a masterpiece !
Fuck yes! 💙💙💙
I have been lucky enough to see MASTODON afew times live...and I still get chills hearing them, a Fuckin' awesome band live 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
anybody notice Wayne Static at 3:57?
Yeah😓😓
Ryan Palmer R.I.P.
Saw them in Athens, Georgia in 2003, in a garage, no more than 5 people.
Man this is the best karaoke backing track I've ever heard.

Genghis Kon I fully agree. He's amazing live
This is for those who get what they're about. Ain't for everyone but it's so good for us.
if you like mastodon you're already my friend :)
beautiful song
Best Performance EVER!
I wouldn't be jumping. I'd be stunned with the tremendous melodic cacophony coming off that stage. Whew!
These dudes are before their time *
Before there time? DID IT BURN ALL THE GOLD THEM INSIDE THEIR SHELL???? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This is an incredible live version of this song. Blown away
And what a great life.seeing the country/ world, doing what you love and getting paid millions.doesnt get any better than that.
Must have been tough for the audience to hear Brann when he started singing
Brent and Bill are a force of nature. Their tone is THICK and sounds soooo good

I saw Mastodon live in Atlanta and it was absolutely legendary, 19 song set list of great songs!
First time heard this song and that was fucking sick!!! Where have I been all these years? WOW
Great song, and a really tight performance. Love it!
I only watch this performance for this guy at 5:03, which I affectionately nicknamed Steve Pizza
Oblivion
Mastodon
I flew beyond the Sun before it was time
Burning all the gold that held me inside my shell
Waiting for you to pull me back in
I almost had the world in my sight
Lost love, bright eyes fading
Faster than stars falling
How can I tell you that I've failed
Tell you I failed
Falling from grace cause I've been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost in oblivion
I tried to burrow a hole into the ground
Breaking all the fingers and the nails from my hand
The eyes of a child see no wrong
Ignorant bliss impending doom
Lost love, bright eyes fading
Faster than stars falling
How can I tell you that I've failed
Tell you I failed
Falling from grace cause I've been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost
Falling from grace cause I've been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost in oblivion
Falling from grace cause I've been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost
Falling from grace cause I've been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost in oblivion

Eu queria mastodon , gojira e meshuggah no rock no rio seria fantástico .
Mês passado teve Mastodon e Gojira em São Paulo, shows muito foda
I am in love with the whole band 😎
Does Brent sing the first lines because he's noticed Brann's mic being low do people think?
nope. he always does it.

SinnedNogara very well pointed
RIK A.N VARTIGYAN I'm assuming Mastodon played their heavy songs though. Mayhem they only played Hunter material
Yeah everyone went nuts at stubbs here in austin
