Imagine sitting in front of thousands of fans with your mates playing drums and singing like that, with that intensity, and it's a song named after your tragically departed baby sister. Dailor is a metal God and so are the rest of these boys
She was a sacrifice for what would become the greatest album ever produced and was named in her honor. She is the mother bear of the cover watching over them while they Mastodon this plane(t).
at 4:44 you can almost fathom the gravity of the song's meaning just by seeing troy's expression.. "mama dont let them take her! dont let them take her down!"
Taimir Gore I'm aware, it just makes it that much more notable since he isn't necessarily the one who should have that much of himself invested into the song meaning.
Taimir Gore agree 100%. the first time I put two and two together it hit me like a ton of bricks once I'd finally paid attention to the lyrics and meaning.
Beautiful song, for those who don't know, this song is dedicated to Brann sister that die when he was teenager. You can see how Brann sing/play with difficult because is too much emotional for him play this song.
She didn’t just die either she committed suicide at 14 years old. Shit is brutal as fuck. Anyway this album is a legendary way of honoring her, a true masterpiece.
Blessed visionary cut me with your sun The rivers ran in blood Spark fueled to fire Deep withing the endless void Searching for a sign The vessel forged inside me Watches over like the death Of the moon Strike the shepherd Sheep will scatter Mountains of despair I can see the pain It is written all over your face The screaming arrows tear through my soul In the dawn your face is haunting White ghostly dreams Weight of worlds is on your shoulders Hear the voice of gold I can see the pain It's written all over your face Desperate heathens flock to sirens Guard your heartache well Momma don't let them take her Take her down Please tell Lucifer he can't have this one Her spirits too strong I can see the pain It's written all over your face You can make it all go away
I absolutely love Mastodon. Having heard the name for years but never checked them out before, I bought their brand new album "Crack the Skye" back in like 2009 or whenever it was. The album blew my mind so hard, I had to pull over on the drive home from The Wherehouse. This one album was, like, half of all music I played for months. Only years later would I learn that some fans consider the album disappointing, and prefer Mastodon's earlier work. Mastodon toured in support of their new album, and I went to see them with Dethklok, who were also my favorites at the time. I was expecting a mixed bag of songs. But, surprisingly, Mastodon performed their entire Cracke the Skye album. So it was an absolutely perfect show for me! I've seen Mastodon 5 times now, and each of their shows was different. They did pretty much all of "Next time Round the Sun" next time I saw them, and the third show I saw them was a great mix of songs across all their albums, and then they did pretty much all of "Hushed and Grim" but I would have bought the ticket just for "Teardrinker" and a couple encores. Last time I saw Mastodon, at Aftershock 2024, they performed all of Leviathon. We had a circle pit going 100% of the time from the very first note. I didn't see a pit going for an entire performence for any other band, and I went to Aftershock three days and saw BB and Judas Priest and other hard-hitters. Some of the Maston shows I've gone to, they have a touring keyboard player, and sometimes they don't. One of the shows I saw, Brent Hinds had a fit and fought with his guitar tech. 1/5 shows sounds about right. Anyway, rock on. Love you guys.
They're playing the whole album on tour this year with Coheed & Cambria! I got tickets for May! Can't wait, this is one of my favorite Mastodon albums!!
"Mama don't let them take her, don't let them take her down, at least alone" There aren't many songs that will make me cry, especially not ones from a progressive metal band that writes songs about Moby Dick and Rasputin But this is one of those songs, and I feel for Brann everytime I've seen him play this. It must be hard on him. Also this is probably the best Troy performance I've seen, he nails Kelly's screams.

@@tuomas_ Are you sure? It sounds like Brann to me. It would also make the most sense, given Brann is speaking to his sister and is using the first person.
I mean, he’s not Scott Kelly, so obviously he’s not gonna sound like Scott Kelly. Shocking, I know, but do not try and say that scream at 4:44 “doesn’t do it justice”, he absolutely smashed it here...
0:00 “Play Minecraft! Oh yeah Minecraft!”
This song should be mandatory for every one of their gigs live
Last time I saw them they didn't play it....so sad...
+Jeff Richards same... but I did get czar which is a good one
They probably didn't play this song because it is very emotional for Brann, it is about his sister that passed away...
I feel you bro, happened to me too...
Bruce Just saw them in Chicago they played this, the last baron, and the czar. It was amazing.
HOLY SHIT A CROWD THAT ACTUALLY HAS RHYTHM WHEN THEY CHANT
Thanks to Troy.
Imagine sitting in front of thousands of fans with your mates playing drums and singing like that, with that intensity, and it's a song named after your tragically departed baby sister. Dailor is a metal God and so are the rest of these boys
Incredible
She was a sacrifice for what would become the greatest album ever produced and was named in her honor. She is the mother bear of the cover watching over them while they Mastodon this plane(t).
Gimme a chance
Understand
Man this should have made the Medium Rarities cut. One of their best tracks and probably the best version of it... better than the record IMO.
The solo is better, and I prefer Troy's vocals compared to Scott's.
I think Scott’s vocals capture the emotions better imo
Couldn't agree more. The best version I've ever heard
Whoever mixed this deserves a goddamn Nobel Prize and an honorary doctorate! Band and crew were fucking ON IT!
this is better than the studio version. I keep coming back to this.
Yes!
Nothing is better than the studio version
It’s phenomenal, would be even better if Scott was there too but it’s an incredible performance.
"Please tell Lucifer
he can't have this one
her spirits too strong."
R.I.P. Skye
the guy screaming at the start " I AM AHAB, I AM AHAB!!!!!!!!!"
TROY FUCKING SANDERS
Fuck yeah!
+CafeteriaFraiche311 TROY *MOTHERFUCKING* SANDERS
at 4:44 you can almost fathom the gravity of the song's meaning just by seeing troy's expression..
"mama dont let them take her! dont let them take her down!"
Robert Johnson I find that interesting since Skye was actually Brann's sister who commuted suicide.
Taimir Gore I'm aware, it just makes it that much more notable since he isn't necessarily the one who should have that much of himself invested into the song meaning.
Robert Johnson I feel. The lyrics really are pretty gutwrenching and Troy kills it vocally.
Taimir Gore agree 100%. the first time I put two and two together it hit me like a ton of bricks once I'd finally paid attention to the lyrics and meaning.
Troy and brann together has to be the best combination of voices I’ve ever heard.
4:44 troy's scream gave me goosebumps it was so intense
That was a serious moment but his look made me laugh out loud.
Miss those screams 😔
Beautiful song, for those who don't know, this song is dedicated to Brann sister that die when he was teenager.

*Difficulty* my man litterally ripped through the song while singing at the same time
She didn’t just die either she committed suicide at 14 years old. Shit is brutal as fuck. Anyway this album is a legendary way of honoring her, a true masterpiece.
heartbreaking song..
Troy's screams are LEGEND!!!
4:44 Troy's crazy face!!
Everytime i watch this video i remmeber this crazy face.
putting meaning into the lyrics
Looks like he really feels the weight of what he's about to sing
I love these guys
0:40 Godlike crowd cheering, theyve got some rhythm!
Blessed visionary cut me with your sun
The rivers ran in blood
Spark fueled to fire
Deep withing the endless void
Searching for a sign
The vessel forged inside me
Watches over like the death
Of the moon
Strike the shepherd
Sheep will scatter
Mountains of despair
I can see the pain
It is written all over your face
The screaming arrows tear through my soul
In the dawn your face is haunting
White ghostly dreams
Weight of worlds is on your shoulders
Hear the voice of gold
I can see the pain
It's written all over your face
Desperate heathens flock to sirens
Guard your heartache well
Momma don't let them take her
Take her down
Please tell Lucifer he can't have this one
Her spirits too strong
I can see the pain
It's written all over your face
You can make it all go away
Just saw them on the Unheavenly Skye tour. Played the whole Album from start to finish. Just amazing.
One of their best songs, period. Best off of this album, too.
the last baron
@@Cole-li7hq I’d agree too, Crack the Skye is still a god tier song though...
4:44 goosebumps
One of the few heavy songs that can bring a tears to my eyes. The raw emotion of this performance is amazing
God, they sound incredible.

In the running for the best Mastodon song of all.
Wish they still played this live...
They do
They're playing the whole album on tour this year with Coheed & Cambria! I got tickets for May! Can't wait, this is one of my favorite Mastodon albums!!
Check out the k pit
Seeing Bran play this song perfectly in a live setting just shows how much this song means to him. It's touching to say the very least.
I love me some "MASTODON!!"
This song broke me. R.I.P. Skye.
Troy was on a another level here
