  • I recently completed my first e-commerce website in Webflow! It was a very interesting process and I learned quite a bit. There are many great things about what Webflow offers but there are also a few limitations that you may want to know about before you decide to build an e-commerce website here yourself. Let me know in the comments if you’ve discovered some other useful or frustrating aspects of Webflow e-commerce, maybe we can help each other save some time and avoid surprises in the long run 😂👌🏻

    Happy to share an update - you are able to add tracking information for orders when you are ready to fulfill them! It can be done all through Webflow e-commerce without any third party plugins.

    One huge advantage of webflow ecommerce is the integration of airtable. So basically you won't even login to webflow if you want to change anything of a product - you can do it from airtable. It's great immo, cause airtable is very suitable for managing your inventory.

    Tax is another gotcha. Folks in New Zealand are finding it difficult as their GST isn’t (or wasn’t) covered. Some issues with legal compliance regarding the confirmation email or - as you might otherwise know it - the receipt. In Australia a Tax Invoice is a legal document and must say specific things. I used the message at the top of the page to say "Tax Invoice" and display company details but it’s not pretty.

      Very frustrating, I didn't even think about the issues that may arise in other countries/regions. Hopefully they enhance these features soon 😔

    Likewise just gone through my first e-commerce build. A few annoying limitations:
    No option for customer to sort products by price, name etc had to use FinSweet CMS for this.
    You can only bulk upload products from a spreadsheet that follow the default product fields. If you add a custom field then you cannot import from CSV anymore. So have to add them all manually through the Webflow interface.
    If you place the add to cart button on a product card on a category page and the product has variations, all the variations drop downs/buttons appear on your card, making it look like sh*t.
    General pain for clients that they can’t manage their product images via the media manager. This baffles me!!

      Thanks for sharing your experience Alan, didn't even know about those. Definitely some things I hope they work out in the long run! But again, can't beat that design control. Guess it's just a case by case basis to see if their platform is best for your store needs.

    Thank you for the video. It was super informative!
    I am currently building a website which has the shop an additional feature. I wanted to use webflow to have full design control over the rest of the page.
    If I would build a store with lots of products and variants i would always go with shopify though. I have worked with several shopify page builders in the past year and even though they are more limited in design control (no real interactions..), you can build nice looking stores and benefit from shopifys eco system, which basically solves all problems you spoke about.
    I hope that Webflow improves, since I would still prefer to do all my work within the platform.

    • @CullenKuch
      @CullenKuch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info Mads! Agreed, design control is nice but that full working store eco system is probably more important. I'm hopeful for future updates in Webflow as well 😭🤞

If you ask me the video needs a serious update before people (front end clicker pro's) get confused by it and it's not worthy a review cause it contains a lot of misinterpretations of functionality webflow offers

    • @CullenKuch
      @CullenKuch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Walton, I think there is a way to add it to their Webflow account if they have one. Or you could always create a blank field (like the order details one I made in the video) and have them leave it for you there. This article might help provide more info: university.webflow.com/lesson/sales-tax-on-webflow-subscriptions#how-to-upload-your-vat-identification-number-and-validate-it

    @mannylopez1165 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you so much for your answer to my question below Cullen, but maybe you can help me by answering me this question. I will buy you lunch someday...lol I am a t shirt designer and have over 300 t shirts to sell each with different colors and sizes. Would the limit of 3000 items in Webflow be enough to set up a store in the platform? After what you said about variants and how they count towards the 3000 items limit, I do not want to keep wasting my time, so I can go to another platform.

    • @CullenKuch
      @CullenKuch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha happy to help Manny, lunch or no lunch included ;) With that much inventory and variation, I feel like you would certainly hit the CMS limit of 2000 on the regular plan. If your budget is higher, the Plus plan does allow 10,000 CMS items for $36/month. But again, if you have a lot of variations for each t-shirt (only 50 allowed per product remember) it might creep up on you faster. So if you want to use the great design features of Webflow you can certainly still build it within the platform but maybe integrate another e-commerce system like Foxy to handle the amount of product you have. Or find a creative way to keep the customization fields simple so you don't use up all of your CMS items 👌🏻

    • @mannylopez1165
      @mannylopez1165 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CullenKuch Thanks Cullen, you rock sir. As a suggestion you may want to create a video about webflow site plans and how the product variations and cms work on the product itself and as total items in your cart based on your plan. Thank you again!

      Hey there, not a lot for e-commerce I will say. Webflow just announced the release of Logic and Memberships as well as a big price increase in some plans to compensate for these new features. Seems their focus has been on these things. But there is a Webflow conference next month where they will announce more updates so we can hope for improvements to e-commerce!

    Awesomely informative vid! Anyone know if WF Ecomm could be used for restaurant menu? I need maximum design control as it's a really unique-looking website. Thought I'd ask. Still doing my research for the best 3rd party plugins. Leave suggestions in the comments if anyone has any. 🙏🏼

    • @CullenKuch
      @CullenKuch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I feel like this is definitely possible. From the front end point of view you should be able to have menu items as the products and all of that. There is no delivery address (unless you are physically delivering food) and they would probably be one time purchases of some sort. A third probably would probably be needed to sync up the incoming orders unless you just get an email when someone checks out and fulfill food that way. Depends on what you're going for - good luck!

    Question: If you reach the 50 limit variations on the t shirt, does that mean you can only sell other 60 different design t shirts on the whole site?

    • @CullenKuch
      @CullenKuch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Manny! The 50 variation limit is by product, not across the entire site. So the limit is connected to an individual product itself so even it were a lamp, a couch a tshirt, each time you go to create a new product to sell, you will only be able to have 50 style combinations of that product. You could create 10 different new t-shirt products in your inventory, each with 50 style combinations. Might not be the most user friendly if they are similar though. What we did for our site was set all of the basic fields so they didn't exceed 50 and then any further customization was a message field at check out where the customer could further specify design aspects. Hope that helps!

    Informative video indeed.
    For digital products around 15-16 offerings, just for the checkout experience- would you recommend going this route?
    What could be the possible limitations we might encounter if we got that webflow native ecom route

    • @CullenKuch
      @CullenKuch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, the checkout experience is pretty smooth and should be even easier for digital products. With no shipping or other settings, I imagine Webflow e-commerce would be a good option for design control, but it might be more expensive than other platforms if you only need it for a few digital offerings. • @CullenKuch
      @CullenKuch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Congrats on starting the new site. The sales have been very smooth between Webflow and Stripe. If you have a limited inventory set on a product and someone buys one through your Webflow store, the inventory will reduce by 1, yes. If there is another POS you would need to integrate a third party system to communicate the inventory change or just do it manually each time. I believe Foxy.io has option for this as well. Hey Ramisha! So the e-commerce building process is supported globally, but the payment processors (Stripe and Paypal) are only supported in certain locations. Here's a list of the Stripe ones I found: stripe.com/global. That being said, this is only if you are using Webflow's native e-commerce platform to handle everything. You could still use Webflow to build your website and then use a third party platform to insert/handle the e-commerce and payment functionality. Foxy.io is one of these. Hope that helps!
