Its important to note: Wix and Squarespace handle the hosting. Which means 1. you don't have to deal with hosting. 2. You cant move your website to another host. Wordpress requires your own hosting but it's YOUR website you can move anywhere.
Wait, wordpress doesn't also host the website you build with them? Could you give examples of other companies that might host a wordpress (or other) site?

Ever tried vsbl? Seems not very flexible but really quick. Also Jimdo is supposed to be very easy to use. Thank you for your video !! I have used Wix and Wordpress for a time. I loved wix because I could do anything I wanted and it is very easy to understand when you're just a bit curious. But yes, wordpress stays number one when you really wanna go deeper and you're ready to learn by yourself. I feel also more secure having wordpress and it's muuuuuch less expensive ! At the end, Wix was very expensive.
But for an online store isnt wix cheaper than wordpress?
Thank you Sara, cost was my primary question. Wordpress will be my choice since I'm on a budget.

This is a great video. I love your honesty. One thing I found in my research is Wix doesn't offer SSL encryption, whereas Squarespace does. For that reason alone, I'll be building my website on the Squarespace platform. Suggestion: include whether or not each of the website builders have SSL encryption built in. That's crucial in today's online environment.

Hi Simon,
I watched this video to see if Squarespace was going to suit my online store but now I'm wondering if WebFlow or WordPress would make a more successful site for online purchases. Which would you recommend? I'm a beginner but don't mind taking the time to learn new things!
I usually recommend shopify for online stores unless you‘d like to have a lot of design freedom and/or you‘re on a tighter budget. If you‘re looking for an all-in-one solution then don‘t look at wordpress, otherwise wordpress + woocommerce is also an option. But takes a lot longer to set up. If you‘re a beginner I wouldn‘t go with webflow honestly. Squarespace could also be a good option, I really like it. Why don‘t you just play around with squarespace and shopify to see how it feels. Both have free trials. If you feel that you need more freedom and features you can still look into wordpress. Good luck!

godaddy had been my go to for years and i absolutely love it! if you have the graphic design chops you can make the graphics tell more of the story than their basic layouts do!
They have gone downhill in my opinion. I would NEVER recommend GODADDY ..... Years ago they were good, but today, there are much better options.

As a web designer, I recommend Squarespace for small business owners that aren't technical. Best balance between ease of use and flexibility.
When you're starting a business, you want to focus on your offer, sales, fulfillment, and portfolio, you don't want to worry about learning a whole new skill.
Be 'good enough' in the non-vital areas of your business (let's be honest- a 'perfect' website is NOT vital) so that the vital areas of your business can get your full attention.
