You are the best in this field.
I have a question; What if we have like 2 carpenters in a particular project, how many hrs/day are we gonna assign them in Default Unit/Time during resource creation? is it go still remain 10h/d?

Thanks for the feedback and Compliment.
The default unit/time for a resource in Primavera P6, typically set at 10 hours per day, is independent of the number of resources of that type.
      Understanding the Concept:
      • Resource Unit: This defines the amount of work a single unit of that resource can perform in a given time period. For a carpenter, it's usually set to 10 hours/day.
      • Number of Resources: This specifies how many units of that resource are available for the project. In your case, you have 2 carpenters.
      How it Works:
      • Total Capacity: The total capacity of your carpenter resource pool is 20 hours/day (2 carpenters * 10 hours/day each).
      • Resource Assignment: When assigning carpenters to tasks, you can allocate work up to a maximum of 20 hours/day.
      • Overallocation: If you assign more than 20 hours of work to the carpenter resource pool for a specific day, you will create an overallocation, which needs to be addressed.

    Sir i have 2 question
1st Q) What is Default Units/Time & Max Units/Time can you explain in brief what it refers to?
2nd Q) I have also watched the full video of resource calculation in Excel. Can you briefly explain what is Budgeted Unit refers to is it refers to total manhour or total labour

    • @PLANNINGP6
      @PLANNINGP6  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      01:
Default Units/Time in Primavera P6 refers to the initial allocation of a resource's capacity to a specific task. It's expressed as a percentage of the resource's total capacity. For example, a default of 50% means the resource is initially assigned to work on the task half-time.
Max Units/Time represents the maximum amount of time a resource can be allocated to a task. This is useful for setting limits on resource utilization and preventing overallocation. For instance, if a resource's max units/time is 100%, they cannot be assigned to work on any task for more than 100% of their available time.
      02:
Budgeted Unit in Primavera P6 typically refers to the total quantity of work expected to be completed for a specific activity or task. This quantity can be measured in various units depending on the nature of the work, such as:
      • Hours: For labor-intensive activities
      • Units: For materials or equipment
      • Linear meters: For construction projects
      • Square meters: For painting or flooring projects
      • Cubic meters: For excavation or concrete work
It's important to note that Budgeted Unit is not directly related to the number of hours worked. It's more about the amount of work that needs to be done to achieve a specific outcome.

Again, in this tutorial, Road marking Measurement Unit is Linear Meter and the Default Unit/ Time is 8/d. Does it meant that only 8meter road marking is expected to achieve in a day?

    • @PLANNINGP6
      @PLANNINGP6  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

No, it doesn't mean that only 8 meters of road marking is expected to be achieved in a day.
      Breakdown of the Units:
      • Linear Meter: This is the unit of measure for the road marking activity. It quantifies the length of the road that will be marked.
      • 8/d: This indicates the resource's capacity or production rate. It means the resource assigned to the road marking activity is expected to complete 8 units of work per day.
      Interpretation:
      • The resource (likely a road marking crew) is expected to complete 8 units of road marking work per day.
      • The specific quantity of road marking (in linear meters) that can be achieved in a day will depend on the efficiency of the crew and other factors like weather conditions, traffic, and road surface.

@@PLANNINGP6 Sir...sorry for exaggerating this...Does it mean that a road of 1kg that is 1000meters will take more than 120days to complete since the assigned resource is 8/day ie 8m/day?

Default units are like start-up numbers you would like to assign as resources to an activity. There is no relationship between increasing and decreasing manpower to an activity with this term.
To increase or decrease your per-day productivity, in case your duration and units are fixed then change the duration. your budgeted units/time will increase or decrease. Do not mix up default units and budgeted units/time.
Please have a look at the enlisted tutorial for a better understanding of the concepts:

What is the meaning of default units/day for Material Resource?

    • @PLANNINGP6
      @PLANNINGP6  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

In Primavera P6, the "Default Units/Time" setting for a Material Resource specifies the assumed daily consumption rate of that material when it's assigned to activities. It's a way to pre-define the expected consumption rate of the material for planning and scheduling purposes.
Importantly, the Default Units/Day is a default value and can be adjusted for each individual material and activity.
Here's a breakdown of how it works:
      🔴 Definition:
✅It indicates the default quantity of the material that is expected to be used per day of work on an activity.
✅It's typically expressed in units that align with the material's type (e.g., cubic meters for concrete, tons for steel, meters for pipe).
✅It serves as a starting point for resource planning and scheduling, but it can be adjusted as needed for specific activities.
      🔴 Usage in Scheduling:
✅When a Material Resource is assigned to an activity, Primavera P6 automatically calculates the total material quantity required based on the activity's duration and the "Default Units/Time" rate.
✅This calculation helps determine the project's overall material needs and ensures timely material procurement.
      🔴 Example:
✅If a Material Resource "Concrete" has a "Default Units/Time" of 10 cubic meters/day, and it's assigned to a 5-day activity, Primavera P6 will estimate a total material requirement of 50 cubic meters for that activity.
      🔴 Considerations:
✅The actual daily consumption rate of a material might vary depending on factors like crew productivity, equipment efficiency, and site conditions.
✅It's essential to monitor actual material usage and adjust the "Default Units/Time" setting as needed to ensure accurate project planning and resource management.
✅You can also override the default rate for specific activities to account for unique requirements or constraints.
We hope this explanation clarifies the meaning of "Default Units/Day" for material resources in Primavera P6.
