I am wearing my nails short now as per your recommendation, and they look so much better. Never thought colors would look good on short nails, but yours are beautiful! 😊
Fabulous job. I observed the way you apply nail polish a long time ago and started doing the same with the fanning of the brush, not putting too much polish on the brush, and pressing in carefully towards the living skin without over flooding the area. Works like a charm!!! Thanks for the great work on this channel.
Thank you! All these “little” tips add up to a lot of helpful information. I have been terrified to try a bright red polish like this, but you make it sound doable. I heard a tip somewhere about painting with your nondominant hand…paint your dominant hand first. So if you’re right handed, paint your right hand first. Then you don’t have to worry quite as much about using your “shaky” left hand while also trying to not mess up the fresh polish on that hand. Hope that makes sense.
Greetings Anna, I stumbled into your videos a year ago and since then I stopped visiting nail salons. I love your health nail advice and techniques, I . bought your first nail kit and my hearlthy nail journey started. I made so much progress with my toe & hand nails. They look extremely healthy and beautiful. I keep them short but they look great. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the public. Your videos are incredible valuable!
For the clean-up I use wooden toothpicks with the tiniest amount of cotton dampened with acetone on the tip, using rolling motions away from the nail. Cleans up very well, exact with the tiny tip and very economical as they cost almost nothing.
Beautiful color! Watching how you apply nail polish in all your videos has been so helpful. I’ve improved so much. Practice, practice, practice. Thank you so much.
Thanks Anna, your tutorial on applying nail polish is one of the best I’ve seen! The real time, close up demonstrates & makes it so easy for us to follow. Plus using the orange stick to clean up with acetone is a game changer! I’ve always struggled using brushes as they fan out & I find it difficult to get a clean line, plus as you said they get expensive. Whereas the orange sticks give a crisp clean line & are cost effective. Thank you so much for all that you share & your care 🙏🏻🌸
You make it look so easy!!! Great teacher! I have to say I am getting so much better by watching your videos! Thanks for taking the time to make them!! 💕
I love the details you put into your videos. For somebody who prefers a brush, an eyebrow brush (thin, sharp and slanted) can work as well, but the wooden stick is excellent!!
Hi Anna, This has been an extremely informative video on how to best apply the polish. Thanks to you, I am able to wear polish again when using Dazzle Dry. In the past when I used any other polish brand, my nail plates would lift off of my nail beds to nearly halfway down from the free edge on most of my fingers. It was painful, and I had to wait several weeks for them to grow out and "re-attach" to the nail bed. I don't experience that problem with DD, and the polish looks fresh for several days. The lifting doesn't happen with water-based polishes either, but they always chip within a few hours.. every time.. no matter how carefully I follow application directions. The only complaint I have with DD is the "shrinkage" of the polish at the free edge when I use the darker cream DD colors. I don't have this same issue with the sheer colors such as 'Pinkie's up'. (at least not visible shrinking). I don't usually cap my nails since I wear them short. I love how DD doesn't chip!! I wear it 4 days on, and 3 days off. I don't know if the shrinking is a unique phenomenon of DD, or if it happens with other brands as well, but since my nails remain healthy looking and firmly attached to the nail bed when using DD and keeping to my wear schedule, I don't intend to try to find out! I love your videos, and love your V2 kit, which I purchased! Thank you so much for all the great videos and advice! (Mr. Salon Life adds to the fun of watching your channel, too!) I am so happy to be able to polish my nails again!
Thank you for this series! Your techniques and advice have really helped me become consistent in my nail care success experiences. Such a relief to know how to get consistently good results, but it’s also really nice to ultimately spend less time overall on nail care. With or without color, I enjoy the way they look. CND Vinylux Wildfire red is also a great option. Perfect red for a pedicure.
Looking forward to further lessons with base coats. Not sure if you are going to get to this in future lessons, I always struggle with not flooding my skin with top coat when I get that close to my skin with nail polish. I don’t want to use less on the brush for control because it’s a quick dry top coat and going back for more usually causes streakiness and issues. Any tips?
You’re not kidding about how challenging it is to use red nail polish! When I took cosmetology, the manicure kit came with red polish. Yikes! It shows every mistake, is difficult to clean and smears at nothing! Maybe that’s why the state board makes you use it. I wish I could use red polish. If I don’t use a base coat, the red makes my nail bed look a weird stained color. But using one does exactly what you said. I envy how beautiful your nails turned out! These days I use nail stickers. My eyes aren’t good enough to paint. Great tutorial!
Been polishing my nails for pretty much my whole life, yet I could never resist watching and listening to you explain polish, Anna! Amazing as always, and I love this colour on you. 😊
My question is how you are dealing with the stain after using red nail polish if you don’t use base coat as you suggested. I always use first base coat but maybe that’s is mistake? Thank you great video
It does not always stain but it might. Like I explained at the end everything has pros and cons. See this video: th-cam.com/video/8U78H3BVF2s/w-d-xo.html
@@TheSalonLife another good video subject might be how to remove yellow stain from your nails? It will be interesting to see if that color leaves a yellow stain. I always thought the purpose of a basecoat was to protect the nail from staining.
Hi Betsy, here is the follow up: th-cam.com/video/FKz5klnHGXk/w-d-xo.html The yellowing from the nails cannot be removed. It has to grow out. I mean it could be but not without causing major damage to the nails. Base coat does not protect from yellowing. Staining and yellowing are 2 different things. Clever how the nail companies don't talk about it. Clear Base coat (worn on it's own) seriously yellowed my nails, many people who wear just a clear nail polish end up with yellow nails. The yellowing is not from the pigments in red nail polish
Thank you for teaching us the correct way to do a nice manicure. I have shaky hands so it’s time consuming when I do my nails. But today I learned some techniques. 💐
I’ve been using a wood stick soaked in acetone for cleanup for ages - that, or the tiniest nail art brush [short nylon bristles only]. I find that the brush works better for me when cleaning the top edge next to the PNF, and the friction from the wood grain of the stick works better for the sides, where the polish likes to cling to the skin. I used to use a q-tip/cotton bud, but I hated how it would inevitably leave fibres on the polish.
Anna, thank you so much for being so detailed in showing us all of the great tips that will really boost an at home manicure on natural nails. I have always done my nails myself but I am excited to try these new tips. You are hands down (no pun intended) the BEST! What is your favorite base and top coats?
Would you consider doing a video using Nailberry brand polish and also Kur Bazaar brand polish? I just recently discovered them online and their selection of colors is spectacular! Kind of reminds me of the Manicurist brand which I love that you turned me onto! I love the Active Shine the best. So classy and such a durable polish!!
Great suggestion of using a stick to clean up the skin. If my hand is too shaky for the polish brush it's also too shaky for a clean-up brush. With a stick I don't have to worry about ruining the whole nail.
I'm about to do a red mani and your tips here are just what I needed. Your nails look gorgeous in red! You turned me into a Dazzle Dry user over a year ago and I think this color is comparable to Dazzle Dry's "The Duchess." I do have a couple of questions. First, since the Revlon HD Snap has nitrocellulose, wouldn't it be better to use a non-nitrocellulose base coat? Or will your nails be safe from yellowing if you remove it within a few days. Even though you supposedly don't need a top coat, wouldn't that increase the shine and longevity?
Dutchess is more pink I think. The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to polish with the most easy steps. DD is not available worldwide Also nitrocellulose free base coat does not prevent the yellowing. The molecule of nitric acid is so small it easily penetrates the very thin (and very porous) base coat.
Ps. Top coat does not add longevity. It adds shine. Base coat adds longevity but I wanted people to learn with an easy polish. Once learned we can move into the next step
@@TheSalonLife Thank you so much for your response. I didn't realize that about nitrocellulose. My nails were so yellow before I switched to Dazzle Dry that I'm very cautious about keeping them clear. I learn more from you in every video! I do know that The Duchess is pink, but on me it's a more like a very cool red, which is perfect for my skintone.
Great tips, thank you very much. Can you @TheSalonLife please also comment on what to do, when the polish is lets say a year old and thcnkens a bit, how to thin it, or is it even worth it? Or just regretfully toss it and get a new one? Thanks again
Dear Anna, fabulous job and thank you for the useful information. One question: i saw some ppl on youtube doing nails saying how we should "seal" the front edge of the nail with polish as wrll, so as to avoid chipping. On short nails, i find it so difficult. What do you think about this practice? Is it necessary?
Thank you for both videos on how to paint the nails! Great tips that I will make use of for sure!❤ And I would also have an ask: could you please make one about brushes? Which are good ones which aren't and why? Thank you😊
Anna, my nails are very flexible (naturally) so I recently bought the mavala scientifique k+ treatment .. but my question is: would you still recommend nail oil soaks as this can increase nail flexibility?
It doesn’t look like you’re painting the free edge, do you find that this has an impact on chips or wear time? Also, I love using orange sticks, but never thought to dip them in acetone.
I do t find capping free edge is necessary wihen you have short nails. Sometimes it can chip more because the polish is applied too thick and never dries properly.
Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial! I have just done my nails in red, poppy red jelly polish (regular, not gel, just jelly) and was thanking God for a cleanup brush. Red (and all darker colors, like Lincoln Park after Dark OPI etc.) are scaring me to the point that I convince myself I wanted to paint in light pink :) Mistake I was making before while cleaning up was I was using acetone free nail polish remover, and it was a mess, disaster and horrible discouraging experience overall. Acetone is the way to go 100%. I was cleaning still wet polish, and somehow didn't make a mess, but I think if I waited a few more moments when it's kind of medium dry, I could have pulled it. I am honestly afraid to clean a dry polish because I think it will not clean because it's dry :) Funny thing, because how in the world we remove nail polish, right? I also thought you are using a watercolor brush because the head looked pretty big to hold a lot of liquid. Those also come in natural bristles and synthetic and yes, they can be very expensive. Stick is a brilliant idea, I will rediscover this tool and try next time with dark polish. Thank you once again!!!
Greetings Anna your a professional manicurist nice colour red 🍒 love it but if I will try it on my nails be sure I get my hands shaking for me I take good care of them and leave them off colours hope to see your Monday live video greetings to you and your family tku for always teaching us ❤❤❤❤❤
Yes. The brush is for nail polish removal on skin. I used one and it worked, but don’t know anything about long term usage or if there are better ones. Did you find them on Temu?
Revlon HD snap nail polish, “cherry on top” costs only $4.29 USD on Amazon now (special offer). That’s a very good price compared to Dior 😂. The color is beautiful and great for the holidays.
Please see this video :) th-cam.com/video/FKz5klnHGXk/w-d-xo.html PS. Capping is not necessary for such short nails and can actually cause issues because the polish might be applied too thick. If you want to cap and you like it and it works for you, by all means you can too :)
Great video, Anna! 😁 I accidentally put this comment on the wrong video but meant to put it here. Lol. Thank goodness for copy and paste! ⬇️ I don’t polish my nails too often but once in a while, I like to enjoy some color. This one is very beautiful on you. I actually have a Revlon polish called cherries in the snow and it is similar, but this one is stunning and I absolutely love the brush.. A good brush in a nail polish is EVERYTHING. I wish every nail polish could come with a brush as awesome as that one. Thank you for showing your wonderful technique. It’s beyond perfection. I just noticed that my local drugstore has this color on sale for $6.99 so I’m going to pick it up today.. LOL And I can’t tell you how tickled pink I am to see that a simple wooden orange stick does an even better job than a brush does, in cleaning up and perfecting the perimeters of the polish. Who knew!! 🤷♀️ I was just looking at brushes last night and trying to find a super thin one to do what the orange stick is doing quite nicely in your video.. I guess I don’t need a brush after all. Thank you so much! It’s been many weeks since I’ve painted my nails but this video has inspired me. Once again, that colour is absolutely GORGEOUS on you. Thank you again. You are so helpful and generous to share your talents with us. I enjoy your videos a lot and your Polish accent is lovely. Cheers. 😊
Awww, thank you so much for your kind words :)) PS. Super thin brushes don't work because they are way too soft and don't hold enough liquid. The acrylic brush is best because its thick but it comes to a point. Good ones are very expensive and they are made of animal hairs.

Hi Anna! I'm having trouble with regular polish because no matter what prep I do, at the second or third day I can peel it right off just like a sticker, no matter what brand of base coat or polish I use. What could I do to fix this?
Tell me more about this “kit” that you speak of? What’s in it? Do you ship to Canada? How much is it and where do I find it? Update edit: never mind. Lol. I just answered my own questions by clicking on “more”. I see everything at your online store. Looks amazing and I’m addicted to nail products. Ha! Even though I have a wonderful nail care routine that has been beyond successful for me, I may have to indulge in some of your stuff regardless.
This is the nail kit I refer to from our store: thesalonlifeshop.com/products/annas-nail-kit-v2 Normally we ship to Canada but right now with the Canada Post strike we paused it.
Super helpful! Seems like the polish in salons goes on easier because it’s thinner. Do you recommend thinning the polish when it gets old? If so, do you recommend a specific product?
I have a red from Zoya called America, and it has this consistency. It’s really nice. I think all there cremes are like this. The brush is kinda small, but they sell paddle brushes to change your brush.
In the salon it looks better because they are good at painting nails. The polishes are not thinner. Thinner polish is also not better because it would be difficult to control and run all over the place. You need the right consistency. I recommend trying to keep polish at the right consistency (I explained how in the first video). I don’t recommend thinning it.
This particular formula (Revlon Ultra HD Snap) is designed to bond to the nail directly and it has a decent shine. It's a 3 in 1 polish, great for learning. Just like you have 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner. Are they as good as separate products? Probably not. In some cases though more than sufficient.
For the purpose of learning I recommend an easy brush like this. To be honest nowdays the round brushes are most popular. I refuse to work with wonky, thin, square brushes. That is like asking a make up artist to apply make up with a q-tip 😅. Quality brush is a must.
No, all I'm saying that this particular formula (Revlon Ultra HD Snap) is designed to bond to the nail directly and it has a decent shine. It's a 3 in 1 polish, great for learning. Just like you have 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner. Are they as good as seperate products? Probably not. In some cases though more than sufficient.
By the way I don’t believe in using nail polish anymore. My nails are all messed up from using plain nail polish for only 3 months. The top layer of my nail plate are all scratched and look very dry with no shinning surface. My nails looked much better before I started using clear nail polish.
Anna, I see you've responded to a couple people asking you to confirm that you don't use a base or top coat with this polish. My questions are - 1) is that true for only reds, or all colors? And 2) is that applicable to this particular polish because it's a one-coat polish, or is it applicable to all polishes, regardless of the type (one-coat, etc.)? I've never heard the suggestion NOT to use base and top coats with color polishes, so I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around this.
No. Some polishes are formulated so no base coat is necessary. Like this one and Essie Expressie. Some are formulated to be used without base coat but you still need top coat like Revlon Gel Envy or CND Vinylux or Essie Gel Couture. Some need base and top (most) Can the ones without base stain or not last as long? Yes. Pros and cons. If you want something that is easy to apply, needs only 1 product and dries fast it’s a price you might be willing to pay. For someone who never paints their nails but once in a blue moon enjoys red manicure for the weekend this could be a perfect solution. You spend 5$ instead of $45 for 3 polishes in case of Manucurist
@TheSalonLife This is super helpful! Thank you Anna! Also, after watching your demos for painting with clear/light polish and color polish, I'm excited to do my own manicures. My biggest thing is I've always been in a rush, and now I understand I need to slow down when applying polish and also make sure I have plenty of time to let the different layers dry instead of piling them all on one after the other. Thanks for your guidance!
@@TheSalonLife yes thats the thing i do that all the time but keep getting stringy.. My friend told me to put some remover and i did but after some time it is still stringy.. I even clean it with lint free wipes and remover, not just swiping it on the edge of the bottle after opening

And I would also have an ask: could you please make one about brushes? Which are good ones which aren't and why?
Thank you😊
Excellent video!
Such great tips, enjoyed learning ❤
Love this video! So helpful! ❤
Anna, my nails are very flexible (naturally) so I recently bought the mavala scientifique k+ treatment .. but my question is: would you still recommend nail oil soaks as this can increase nail flexibility?
Yes to the soaks. Oil does not increase flexibility when the nails are already flexible.
Red (and all darker colors, like Lincoln Park after Dark OPI etc.) are scaring me to the point that I convince myself I wanted to paint in light pink :)
Mistake I was making before while cleaning up was I was using acetone free nail polish remover, and it was a mess, disaster and horrible discouraging experience overall.
I can’t wait to remove my polish and use your method.
Greetings Anna your a professional manicurist nice colour red 🍒 love it but if I will try it on my nails be sure I get my hands shaking for me I take good care of them and leave them off colours hope to see your Monday live video greetings to you and your family tku for always teaching us ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Anna for the demonstration! Do you have any tips for shrinking?
The benefit of this polish is that it does not shrink. It's the top coat that shrinks usually.
@TheSalonLife I know I know. For me, the glossy layer of top coat is everything so I wish I could hold onto it!
I don’t know if the brushes for removing plain polish are good or bad but Temu has cheap ones. Take a look and let me know. Thanks
You mean for cleaning up the nail polish?
Yes. The brush is for nail polish removal on skin. I used one and it worked, but don’t know anything about long term usage or if there are better ones. Did you find them on Temu?
Very pretty! I love it!
How do I know what red color is good for my coloring? I'm a warm/neautral undertones!
Revlon HD snap nail polish, “cherry on top” costs only $4.29 USD on Amazon now (special offer). That’s a very good price compared to Dior 😂. The color is beautiful and great for the holidays.
It’s more expensive here. I paid 8.99€ but it’s on sale sometimes
Thank you for your tutorial
Love Your Videos😻 Do U Know Of Any Nail Polish With Low Smells???
What are your recommendations about capping the free edge, and not using a basecoat with a dark polish (won't it turn the nail red)?
Please see this video :)
th-cam.com/video/FKz5klnHGXk/w-d-xo.html
PS. Capping is not necessary for such short nails and can actually cause issues because the polish might be applied too thick. If you want to cap and you like it and it works for you, by all means you can too :)
Great video, Anna! 😁
I accidentally put this comment on the wrong video but meant to put it here. Lol. Thank goodness for copy and paste! ⬇️
I don’t polish my nails too often but once in a while, I like to enjoy some color.
LOL
And I can’t tell you how tickled pink I am to see that a simple wooden orange stick does an even better job than a brush does, in cleaning up and perfecting the perimeters of the polish.
Cheers. 😊
Awww, thank you so much for your kind words :))
PS. Super thin brushes don't work because they are way too soft and don't hold enough liquid. The acrylic brush is best because its thick but it comes to a point. Good ones are very expensive and they are made of animal hairs.
I have same nail polish, do I need to use base coat with this brand? Do nails get stained? Thank you 😊
Why didn't you listen? She SAYS no right in the beginning.
❤️❤️❤️ that color❤️❤️❤️
Love this. When do you need a base / top coat?
Some polishes are designed to bond without a separate base coat. Like 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner.
How long should you wait for polish to dry in between coats?
Until it’s dry to the touch I would say is best
I’ve always heard that using a dark color without a base coat causes nail staining. Is this not true? Thanks!
It does not always stain but it might. Like I explained at the end everything has pros and cons.

Perfect....you should wear colours more often.
I kind of can't. I ruin any color when I'm working with clients. So for me it's a weekend thing :))
Thank you for this video.
Hi Anna! I'm having trouble with regular polish because no matter what prep I do, at the second or third day I can peel it right off just like a sticker, no matter what brand of base coat or polish I use. What could I do to fix this?
Did you follow all the steps in this manicure? Do you wipe your nails with 98% alcohol?
@@TheSalonLife yeah! I also make sure to wash my hands very well to avoid any lotion residue and I very very lightly buff the nails too.
This is the nail kit I refer to from our store:
thesalonlifeshop.com/products/annas-nail-kit-v2
Normally we ship to Canada but right now with the Canada Post strike we paused it.
Keep them in refrigerator when you don't use them.
No, that is an old wives tale. Keeping it at a room temperature in a dark spot (like in a drawer is best)
So no base to top coat required with this polish?if so what a game changer
This particular formula (Revlon Ultra HD Snap) is designed to bond to the nail directly and it has a decent shine. It's a 3 in 1 polish, great for learning. Just like you have 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner. Are they as good as separate products? Probably not. In some cases though more than sufficient.
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
Now show us how to do a nice job with a square brush (the most common type) please!
For the purpose of learning I recommend an easy brush like this. To be honest nowdays the round brushes are most popular. I refuse to work with wonky, thin, square brushes.
That is like asking a make up artist to apply make up with a q-tip 😅. Quality brush is a must.
Wait, are you saying we should not apply a base coat before polishing?
Some need base and top (most)
Can the ones without base stain or not last as long?
My polish get stringy. And its hard to find thinner in my country.. So what to do anna?
Please see the first video about how to keep the bottle clean of nail polish. Thick polish is unusable. It’s best to avoid thickening.
@@TheSalonLife yes thats the thing i do that all the time but keep getting stringy.. My friend told me to put some remover and i did but after some time it is still stringy.. I even clean it with lint free wipes and remover, not just swiping it on the edge of the bottle after opening
Its interesting that you are not closing the free edge 🧐
Not necessary on such short nails.
Red stains my nails without a base coat 😢
Welcome to the club 😂
Damaged nails will stain more. I will remove (and film) mine today to see if it stains.
