Thanks for this, we are doing a Scottish van tour next year for our 20th wedding anniversary, in sept , I have visited Scotland all my life , and have the same reservations as you on the nc500 , so we will be making our own tour up, thanks for your great vlogs and guides 😊
Done the NC500 last year in a rented transporter and bought a custom this year to convert and do it again, i wouldnt do applecross or john o groats again as i thought they were very underwhelming. Achmelvich bay is stunning tho by far 1 of the best beaches ive been on.
We did the nc500 a couple of yrs ago missed out apple cross due to having a hire van and didn’t want damaged it looking to do the route again at some point great video as always chris and the ultimate Scottish road trip book is very good
New subscriber from Glasgow. Probably done the NC500 in my old Subaru and RS2000 and some in motorhome but never in a onner!! 🤣 Canny beat those Peak Design clips too!! Speak soon.
A Few years back We did it apparently the wrong way round the first time , (east to west) So 12 months later we did it again apparently the (right way round) west to east. Definitely better the wrong way round in my opinion and finish on a high. The other way finished a bit dull .we ended up driving from john o groats strait down to an aire at findhorn (beautiful place) definitely recommended
have you tried going up the middle via Lairg and Altnaharra to avoid the east coast. The road from Laxford bridge to Lairg is also nice. Anticlockwise is best as the views are much better
The east coast is dull, yet it's got your favourite view! 😂 The Duncansby stacks are awesome, though. I guess it's whatever floats your boat. I love the north east. It may not have the majestic mountains of the west but, to me, it's wild, ancient (archaeologically speaking), spiritual and has an austere beauty. Also, what do you mean once you've seen one beach, you've seen them all? The sand on Melvich beach is a distinctly darker shade of, er, sand than that on Dunnet beach! 😉😂 Also, it's probably all the sugar in salad cream that makes it taste so fine! 😋
Yeah haha, its a strange one. I kinda like that its in the top corner though that way that amazing view is like the real start of the NC500 for me haha.
Old lad, great vid as usual. We did the NC500 around same time (we bumped into Chris & Dani at Gairloch beach, fantastic lovely couple) Just wanted to add that at John o groats toilets you must try and walk through turnstiles before adding money, not sure if this is the norm but we didn't need to pay. Worth noting to all you lovely people on your road trip x
The extortionate parking charge is enough to cover everything never mind then expecting people to pay to use a toilet too. It’s a disgrace to charge anyone for a toilet in any situation or location.
Mate Scotalands been here for millions of years incase you didnt know lol. People are just descovering how beutifull it is. Nothing needs changed what so ever and maybe it should have more stop off locations for tourists to bring the Country in money but again it just goes back down to westminster 😂. On the flip side maybe it should stay rural as 90% of bits u stop at are full of trash!
Totally agree Chris, the NC500 is over rated as there is so much more to Scotland. It also gets ridiculously busy in the summer months on the 500 which only upsets small sections of the local community who are simply anti tourism......fortunately they are in the minority as most locals are very friendly and less likely to snarl at you, you can tell who the anti tourism brigade are, they wear Mel Gibson style warpaint lol.
Dare say I’m probably the first person to write a guide book and tell people to skip it 😂 wait until you see next weeks video when Dani makes me drive it 🤯
We've done variations of the NC500 3 times from Cornwall now and I'm in a rush to go back Applecross. If you've driven in the alps, dolomites or Norway it's nothing. But people get sooo touchy about it when you say that. I can't wait for that video! Love the content man! Are you going to be at MVT 3.0?@@ChrisSloanes
@@alexchilton2676 I don’t understand it. The road is awful and the views are definitely not worth the drive. Trollstigen in Norway, now that was an experience

Top work mate, back from our trip to Aran, absolutely perfect. Thanks for the use of your maps worth every penny.
Received my book Chris, top class and very professional - thank you

😆 going to Scotland tomorrow thanks for a few tips done the 500 a couple of years ago good book 😅
Top video from you two as usual, very informative and honest. Pre ordered and if it’s as good as the Ultimate Scottish Road Trip it’ll be a cracker 👏👏

Absolutely agree Chris. We avoid NC500 simply cos there’s so much nicer stuff in Scotland.
Both on the wish list; GC600 and NC500! Might tackle the latter with our Ocean first though!
Another fab video Chris & Dani, honestly your personalities keep making me come back to your videos, yous always make me laugh 😅❤
Great Video buddy
Can’t fault the honesty at all. Cracking insight 🤘🏻
Nice one matey. Was so typing, egg mayo sandwich as she adds salad cream. But dani corrected herself 😂

Stunning van. Cant beat van adventure.
Where you had your egg and salad cream is where my daughter lives just up that wee road across from you and I live in the village of Dunnet

Resived ya Rd trip book very happy with all the info lot work gone into it keep um coming Northumberland next
Stunning Chris…you’ve convinced us to give it a whirl next summer on our way to the west! 😊
Well the second part which is the north and west will really show how amazing some parts of it are. Or you can buy the guide if you haven’t already 😂
Can’t see the e-version on your website
@allysmith7081 this should work: www.sloanesmedia.com/exclusive-offers/p/nc500-improved-road-trip-guide-ebook-edition
We have just done the nc500 and also found applecross disappointing. We are hoping to do the west coast again very soon but missing out applecross .
Gold post box = 2012 gold medal winner lives there. Both main and Paralympics.
Knew it was something to do with that! Thanks for the info
We skipped apple cross in our 8m van because of the known issues with it
Another cracking video mate 👍🏻
Thanks! The next part is better. More happens and wind stopped so a lot more pretty footage 😂

Clicked the like button as soon as you mentioned Applecross. We were disappointed by it, but everyone seems to LOVE it.

@@ChrisSloanes I agree 100% about the road and the views haha! Fair enough would be cool to see you down there!
