Way back in 1990 I had dealings with Marquis. I bought a 3 year old motorhome, I needed a towbar fitted to tow a small trailer. We negotiated a deal to have the tower fitted before delivery. At the time the towbar appeared to be a ridiculous price, but we agreed I'd get the towbar at half price. Anyway, the towbar was fitted and I collected the van a few days later. The following weekend we were going away to try it out, I needed to take the trailer, we got everything prepared, the last job put the trailer on the back. This is where it fell apart, I hitched the trailer on then went to plug in the light plug and theres no socket to plug it into. When I contacted Marquis they "said you asked for a towbar to be supplied and fitted, you never mentioned anything about a lights electrical socket" By the way the towbar bracket cost me around £400, it was a small steel bracket that bolted between the rear chassis cross beam and the bumper, I think it was about 8 inches long and was a piece of 6mm steel bent into a "U" shape withe a stiffener in the middle. Theres no way it should have cost £400, especially as the was supposed to be half price. They would put on the electrics socket if I would pay an extortionate price, I slammed the phone down in disgust and did it myself. I've never gone back to Marquis for anything since. Afterwards I heard of several other people that had been ripped off by Marquis. I thought as it was such a long time ago they might have changed their ways, clearly this is not the case.
I retire next year and was going to take a look at this company - thank the lord that i dropped on this as i have read the comments and will spend my money elsewhere. Thanks very much.
@dieselsubmariner1639 I'm shocked at the quality of many a motorhome. I recently visited a custom van builder in Bristol who was a small outfit, and was astounded by they quality, sturdiness and finish that they achieved- you could swing off their panels and cabinets. Very impressive. Sometimes the 'ready made' isn't always the best. I'm not affiliated with the bristol company and I won't mention their name, but there are quality bespoke options out there.
Well I had a very negative experience with that company in birtley. I have a very good job and at the time plenty money in the bank. I had also recently lost my mother who also left me inheritance..... I visited that company to buy a brand new motorhome. I was 30 years old at the time and on looking around a salesman came over to me and asked what I was doing. I clarified I was looking for a new motorhome. He replied with 'oh Im not sure we have anything on our forecourt you can afford at your age'. I went to Tyne valley motorhomes and a lovely man called Simon helped me. I wouldn't go to marquis if they were the last dealership in the country 😂
That happened with me at BMW in Teesside. I just walked out because even after explaining I don't want PCP on a 4 year old car, he called me a mug as no person at 30 year old could afford 35k 😂. It makes me laugh... just because they can't afford it, doesn't mean I can't.
I was 31 years old when I ordered our brand new coach build from Marquis birtley, they could not have been more helpful and accommodating, we also tried Tyne valley but they could not match the deal marquis offered us but they also treated us perfectly. Our age never came up at either dealer.
I visited Marquis stand at the NEC in 2018 and I have to say that their sales people were the most unprofessional, when we showed a serious interest in one of their vans the guy was very off hand and stated ‘ come and see me the end of the show and we can talk finances I told him it would be a cash buy and he looked at me as though I was mad. I know that he wanted the commission on the finance and I told him so and then he said ‘ can’t sell you it for cash I have 5 vans and they will go via finance’ I was told him I will get my own built and we did, 2 fingers to him. I saved around £30k in the process 👍🏻👍🏻
KIA tried the same tactics when our nearly 7 year old Sorrento broke down which was still under the 7 year warranty. A KIA dealership carried out he wrong service 3 years before the Jan 2024 service and did not change the oil. In Jan 2024 local dealer stated car needed minor last service under warranty but we stated we wanted a major so the car would have an oil change KIA only changes the oil every 2 years to save THEM money. Just 18 miles after collecting the car the engine started making load metallic noises. KIA UK fought to nit repair the car stating we missed an inspection / minor service during COVID lock down. Our car was at this other dealership soon after lock down was over (where we bought the car from) for a recall but they didn't do the minor service. This dealership then did the minor service the next year instead of the major. I spotted this when I requested all the service sheets and NOT KIA UK or the dealership who most probably hid it. Until we threatened to take KIA UK to court KIA refused to help. We also emailed head of KIA UK with all the information. KIA eventually had the engine rebuilt at their cost but it took over 6 months so NEVER give in if you have a case. KIA Sorrento diesel has known oil pump failure and that is what failed in our car at just over 80,000 miles. Never buying another KIA vehicle and neither are several other people we told about our experience.
We bought a brand new car. It started leaking water into the air con filter. We allowed them to repair it. A few weeks later it happened again. They insisted on wanting to repair it again. I quoted consumer rights and rejected the car. They agreed to supply a new one a few months later. It developed the cane fault - rejected it again. Stick up for your rights.
We've been following your story. Goods and services come into play. Also as far as refunds are concerned your bank has to honour without questions ( they will try but insist) without answering a full refund under the bank guarantee. You should get refunded immediately into your account and they will have 30 days to reply or contest it. I've done this with a horrendous Airbb upon return home.
They are a dreadful dealership, my experience was ok right up until they took my money!! Highlight was them getting paid by Adria for warranty work that they never actually did, despite having my van for well over a month - found that out after contacting Adria directly. Totally abysmal.
Chris I just fitted an air suspension kit on my Bailey Adamo 75-4DL. Cost £320 for Tripple bellows all the hardware and the compressor, and a dual air system, fitted it in 3 hours. Ride is now superb, and I can raise the back by 3-4 inches, great for ferry ramps and steep drives. I’m looking forward to your video on the leveling kit.
If they increased the price AFTER you paid the deposit they must either refund you or honour the original price. Once you paid the deposit that was your contract. They are contracted to supply and fit at the agreed price. They cannot add on afterwards
Wow that’s got my back up. Well done for standing your ground. Far too many people don’t know their rights & don’t take things far enough. when you spent that type of cash you really need to do a bit of research before parting with it or you’ll get totally shafted when things go wrong so well done Chris for knowing the score and for highlighting a major issue within the industry. I Actually feel sorry for you spending all that money as you’ve been totally shafted with that van. It’s an absolute disgrace. Marquis should be ashamed off themselves & hopefully people that see your video tell them to take a run and fcuk to themselves
I had no idea who owns Marquis - thank you for pointing it out, and for you excellent video. However can’t say I am surprised by the poor service you experienced. Whilst I’ve always had excellent service from their Newbury branch, I can’t say the same for the Exeter one. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve gone in there, ready and willing to buy a new motorhome - and been completely blanked by the sales staff. The last time I had my daughter with me. We had been off for a walk, and thus dressed in rather scruffy - though clean - gear. They totally blanked us. We waited in the shop for service for some time, despite the sales team chatting all together at the counter. I eventually went up and asked for help regarding the motorhomes from them - they looked me up and down - then one detached themselves from the group - and walked straight past me to greet someone who had just entered the shop. I’d like to say that was a one off event, but unfortunately it’s not. I’ve now reached the conclusion that you need to dress up to go there, to appear worthy to be served. Needless to say I bought my motorhome elsewhere. On that subject, I did buy one once from a different local dealer. It was my first motorhome and was secondhand. It turned out to have numerous faults - second gear faulty, exhaust fumes leaking into the cab when driving, and some very dodgy brakes. I rang them the following day listing all the problems, and followed that up in an email. I returned it the day after. (Big mistake - should have had an independent inspection first for evidence before returning it). They took it for a test drive - and said it was my driving (yet I’d hired a 25 footer immediately before and had no problems with that!). It took 5 weeks before my money was refunded, and then only because Trading Standards got involved because of the exhaust fumes. Your advice about collecting evidence is therefore spot on. It’s essential.
I’ve never heard any thing positive about Marquis. When we bought ours we never set foot on any of their premises and after hearing your story I’m glad we didn’t. Glad you got your refund.
We bought a caravan from the old Washington caravans in Birtley. It took 7 months of strife to get it fixed. They kept saying it's okay to have over 40% damp in the front. They refused to take it back time and time again. Adria kept sending the wrong parts and did not know how the build was done. It was eventually fixed. We got 1K for loss of use but still made a slight loss on it. I would never buy a new van again. This was on top of our first visit away water all over the floor, to be fair dealer drove to our site to fix it. They just expect you to wait that time, if it was a car you would have a car straight away and probably rejected quickly.
£600 Labour on 2 front struts...yeah ok, Just get a Mobile Mechanic out, do it in about 40mins a side. Nothing technical, very very simple job on Ducato (Non AClass)
Chris, A good video which is informative for all. I’m sure you’re probably aware but for benefit of all, if you are convinced you have a case and dealing with the company direct has failed you can for a very small fee make a Court Claim - used to be known as ‘Small Claims’. It is an easy process, can be completed online and works. I had a deposit issue with another well known dealer nor Hull, they point blank refused to return deposit of £5K (long story) citing their company policy. Company policies do not trump consumer law. Long story short, they returned deposit, had to pay the court fees and interest. It was all dealt with within a week. Don’t be bullied is the moral of the tale. Pleased it worked in your case too Chris.
Well done for bringing your misfortune to public attention and for the very balanced portrayal of the situation, I'm sure your advice will help others. I worked in the industry for 29 years and at no time would we take such a poor approach to selling a product and customer service. I've never got my head around the fact that business employees can offer rubbish service but when they personally purchase goods outside their work environment they expect top rate customer service, it's bizarre! I do think the smaller independents get this, they know customer service is everything, this is what makes them successful, pleasing customers is a very rewarding thing for the individual team member. What's happened to integrity? (That's enough now, it's turning in to a Sloanes rant with an S 🤣🤣🤣)
Hi l have had issues with Marquis it is a really poor company, anything to do with my Motorhome is NOT done at Marquis now, glad to hear you got your money back 👍
My van is off the road from marquis birtley, been off the road over 2 months and won’t be fixed until next year! Paying near a grand for the vehicle every month and I’m sick to death of it! Absolutely disgusting and now Iv had it over 1 year I’ll not be able to get the vehicle handed back in. I’m really close to getting an ombudsman or legal involved
Yeah man you need to get something sorted with that. I had similar with my Grand Cali when i first got it. In the first year i lost it to getting repairs done (which were never completed) for 3 month of the first 12. Paying £1300 a month + insurance for something i couldnt use. Its not good enough really. They should as a minimum pay any finance payments while you dont have it. Bet they would be faster then.
I’ve had my Hymer exis I 504 from new now, 11 years old and to be fair it’s been almost fault free. Just the odd catch or handle needing fixing and the barrel’s on the locks had to be replace. It’s the 3 rd new van we’ve owned the previous two were Carthago and whilst nice vans I did have some problems with on one the fridge coil failing and onthe other a boiler fault. In both cases I threatened legal action if not repair and in both cases that did the job.
We purchased a Burstner in Jan 2024. To date, we have had just over 4 months where we have not been able to use the motorhome due to issues with the habitation side and the Fiat side. Engine warning light on 3 times now all related to DPF. Been back with Fiat for circa 3 months with DPF issues. Relayed home over 400 miles 1st time. Currently in discussions with the dealer (who has been excellent) reference keeping, returning or exchanging. It’s been a complete nightmare!!
we bought a motorhome from them, said it was serviced it was not, no battery that should have been there, in the bathroom a bowl in the basin strange found out why the basin was cracked so wet feet unless you keep the bowl in the basin, solar panels did not work so many faults.
These suspension upgrades are much cheaper than your quote from Marquis de Sade. Research is your friend. However these vans are renowned for poor suspension. I had one and got rid very quickly and got the Sprinter.
It comes under Sale of Goods Act plus contract law, eg. breach of contract. You can get the first 30 mins free with any solicitor to outline your case.
Hi Chris I’ve had the E & P levelling installed and the full VB Air. The big advantage of the full VB Air is that it works in conjunction with the jacks. So when you ask the jacks to level the VB Air lowers itself fully for the jacks to have their greatest possible range. Then after the jacks have levelled the air takes up any slack Additionally the self levelling on the air is great when you stop in a lay-by fit a coffee. Also the air is great to tip the van sideways when emptying the grey water
Their poor reputation is very well known unfortunately Chris.I was interested in the very same vehicle as you have. New ones only being available from Marquis was the thing that put me off buying.I've been lucky buying my new vehicles from 3 very good dealerships but had to do a lot of research.
We had a terrible experience with White Arches, just down the road from Marquis which ended up just this month having the Ombudsman siding with us that our brand new Bailey caravan was not fit for purpose resulting in a full refund and the van being taken back. It took over a year to get to this point. I would never buy a new van again.
Stuff can be sent back normally 10 to 25 % percent surcharge or in some case just a drop off charge can't say I have ever seen a company not take stuff. Always pay with credit for big items you have more protection.
We went to the Camervan and Motorhome show at Stratford on Avon, We had enough to put 2/3 of the price down on a motor camper. We went and spoke with people camping in the field next to the showground to seek advice on what to look for, best dealers etc. Told em where we lived and they said stay away from Marquis and one on Teesside. That unsettled us, so in the end we bought a panel van and hired a local company to convert it for us.
Nothing changes, 15 years ago I bought a brand new Rapido from Brownhills Newark. It came with 440 miles on the clock, no cab carpet, broke drawer front etc. They had been using it for shows etc, no mention when I ordered it.
Any Trigano group van is absolutely terrible build quality. Our Chausson was crap. Have a Dreamer camper now and the build difference is like night and day.
I put a deposit on a brand new van at the NEC, with an agreed price on the trade-in. This has a number of known issues which I fully disclosed. We visited their Ipswich branch for them to look at my trade-in. We sat around for an hour or so and they came back and told me that the trade-in would be £5k less than that agreed at the time I made the deposit. They listed some of the problems (all of which I had disclosed). I asked if they'd noticed the cracked shower tray. They hadn't noticed that (and it's one of the more expensive issues). Clearly the NEC agreement was just entrapment, and they thought it was quite ok to renege on the written agreement and handshake. At least they refunded the deposit (in a few days).
😅i brought a moterhome from the tewkesbury branch, just before lock down So it stood on drive for 7months,had a couple of local trips fine.Went to isle of wight,on way back engine blew up .Guess what out of warrenty.
Commented before I seen the whole video. We bought an Elddis and the dealer was bouncing me between them and Elddis. Got Consumer Righr people involved and fought for 15 months but too long to type on here.
We bought our brand new motorhome from Marquis Birtley around 8 years ago, amazing service from them through the entire process, they sorted any problems we had very quickly. We’ve used them each year for hab checks etc and again perfect service every time we go. They are sorting a small damp issue for us now, 8 years later and we only have to pay 20% of the cost, the warranty is covering the other 80%.
We fitted vb air when it was only a few months old, but Marquis didn’t deal with vb at the time, so we bought it from Tyne valley. So our vb air is now 8 years old too, it has been perfect over this entire time, so top marks for them too.
Next door neighbour bought a ne BMW 5 series estate, gearbox failed within a few weeks and was offerred a new gearbox one under warranty, no thanks and after a bit of to and fro he bought a new Mercedes
I asked a friend who repairs motorhomes and he suggested a Fiat Chassis, I did, what a mistake, chassis is so noisey on the road. Within a year decided to get rid of it. Went and test drove a MAN (VW Crafter) Knaus converion what a difference, its like driving a car, no road noise.
You mentioned Hedley Towbars.....I found them superb the three occasions I've used them so far. As for Marquis.....well based on this, it's going to be give them a wide berth
these stand and deliver merchants remind me of when i had my kitchen fitted, chose the doors, worktop tiles etc.. knew i was being fleeced but it was all to be done at the same time by the same company... did i want a bin inside the under sink cupboard door the salesman asked.. i thought it might be useful so said yes.. just assumed it would be a few pounds onto the total price.. when i got the final invoice it was £120 plus VAT for a plastic bin i could have bought from pound stretcher for about 99p... we live and learn!
I studied contract law. Sale of Goods Act is the law being quoted. What you must NOT do is allow them to fix anything or repair anything yourself. If you allow any repair, then you have lost your claim or it becomes very more complicated. The best way is to say no thanks, I’m returning it. Stand your ground.
Well done for sharing your experience. We had problems with our new van from Pearman Briggs. He even told me I was being petty! End of the day it’s a box on wheels!!!! Yes 70 grands worth 😡. When I said we’ll reject it he managed to do the repairs in 15 minutes 😡. Needless to say it was shite. We have tried to avoid any dealings since and like you sorted minor issues via someone else
It’s great to hear that you are challenging the poor goods and services which you have payed for or deposited money for . I’m very like you in that I will not accept poor quality goods and services and always complain or give constructive feedback ( never well received of course) however , I feel that many folks ( my family included) get embarrassed when I call out such poor service and goods - ! It’s just not acceptable and I it wont do ! I’m with you and applaud you for standing up to them and not being afraid ! 👏
If they didn’t know who they were taking on they do now. Well done for standing up to them. I think the whole industry wants a shake up. Most of the warranties are worth the paper they are written on, especially if you buy a second hand van under warranty. Luckily I have a very good dealer near to me Todd’s at Lostock Hall Preston and they’ve been great. I can’t see it yet but I was to buy another van I would certainly buy from them. By the sounds of it you don’t have a Alko chassis which is a lot more expensive than the standard chassis. Bob from Motorhome Adventures often does suspension reviews at A&E Leisure but it’s mainly about them fitting them. Best of luck getting it sorted out sounds a complete disaster.
FYI It is Marquis who own Autosleepers, yes they named the holding company Autosleepers but it was Marquis paying money to AS and has Marquis directors. From what I could discern the 2 companies seem to dislike each other :-) All my problem was with the local staff at Marquis Berkshire. That was 2017 so may be different now.
Marquis are absolutely shocking to deal with our local branch have absolutely no customer relations at all they could not give a crap once you have brought it.
Well done you. 👍. We have had trouble, but with a car in the past and it took us a year ! Even though we rejected it within the first week. We had to go to court! You are right in thinking , because they are “ bigger than you” that they can bully you and get their own way.
Great video showing people this really happens and how to deal with it. I took my sprinter to a very well know place for camper conversions in durham mainly do transporters the day van ones any way after I left it with them to see if I could get a few thing done I get a call saying we won't touch someone else's build no if or buts just no basicly... all I asked for a door to be cut in to garage area and if they could give me an idea for extending the bed over garage. When I turned up to collect van thr passenger window was all the way down and it was raining my back doors and side door where not closed properly and my shower door was banging when pulled away after it being just left open. Over all a terrible experience and wouldn't try them again for anything
Good for you. I have an issue with Mercedes Benz at the moment and its nice to hear the "little man" winning every now and then...because its not frequently enough.
@@comeoncloud I brought a brand new Mercedes from Mercedes Benz of Newbury. Car not the spec ordered. Paint awful. They said ‘’ you didn’t buy the car from us, you brought it from Mercedes uk” I had never spoken to anyone other than salesman @ Newbury. Wanted to throw car back. 14 months later I still won a £140k lemon. I would go to press but public don’t like people who pay that much for a car. I’m never buying anything from Mercedes again
The minute they increased the price you should have walked away, a bit nieve to pay up front for parts that should have been a warning but glad you got your money back.
This is why you use a credit card and not a debit card. You request a charge back on your money, they also get charged about £50 for the privilege of having the money claimed back. Then they’re fighting you, not you fighting them.
Hi I’ve just put a 10% deposit down to secure a second hand Motorhome, I took it for a test drive, got them to write down all the extras I wanted / service receipts etc on the contract. they said when I come to pick it up they want me to transfer the remaining 90% balance by bacs 2 days before I pick it up. I want to course double check they’ve done all the stuff before I pay. Should just yolo it and pay. Or go up there and check it, then pay(if I have to come back in 2 days when cleared I guess no harm done?)
Hard one really but i done the same, transferred the full amount for the van 2 days ahead of time so it had time to clear by collection day. Id probably go and check it all out before you send the money, that way you know your happy with it for now ahead of time.
Thank you for this as I am soon to be purchasing my 1st motorhome and will be spending 2 years traveling full time in it.... I have looked at a few and the one that blows me away is Carthago ! I will avoid all the makes in this review !
Couldn't agree more. Know your rights and stick to your guns. I'm now in the UK, Sunderland actually and driving all over looking at 2nd hand vans (nowhere near your budget) and boy is it a learning curve. Dodge dealers pretending to be private sellers. Private sellers with damp motorhomes pleading ignorance when walls are clearly delaminating and appliances that do not work on gas. It really is a wild west out there and I haven't even gone onto mechanical issues. Thanks so much for the video, appreciated.
As a consumer you would suppose, with peoples spending power being squeezed, that the retailers would make every effort to, first win, and then keep your business but, from my experience, nothing could be further from the truth. Walk into a car showroom and express an interest in a vehicle and expect no salesmen in sight and fifteen minutes before one shows up. Bought a new £42,000 VW recently and had to drive three and a half hours home in the rain with wipers that wouldn't clear the screen. Told by the local dealer next day that I would have to pay £42 to replace the blades, 'not covered by warranty', and this was confirmed by VW head office who wanted me to repeat the journey back to the supplying dealer to get them changed. Bought a used Golf and the salesman stressed that, if I wanted to reject the car, I could select any other vehicle of my choice from the forecourt without argument. On collecting the car it was obvious that it had been badly repaired with paint runs and contamination so I asked to exchange. The answer was, NO.
Went down to Marquis in Durham to look at an Elddis CV60. I would ask the male salesman a question and he would give the answer to my husband, rather than me! I asked about getting an inverter fitted for more off-grid use and was asked "why do you want one of those - you won't need one love". Massive red flags. Walked away.
Sounds familiar for far too many. Brought a used van. Sales were pretty good. Aftercare non existent. Told the van had been services. Checked with Mercedes and it wasn’t. As had on e mail managed to get dealer to pay for one. Have now gone back to an old family run dealer for service and maintenance. Big dealer just all about the money. Great to see a refund!
It seems to be a chronic problem within the RV industry regardless of brand or manufacturer. The combination of poor build quality and bad service from dealers makes it really difficult for us the customers. It doesn't seem to matter if it is a so called "premium" brand or an entry level brand. I have owned brand new examples of both. I would never again buy a factory new RV. Better let the first owner manage all warranty problems and the first huge depreciation. Fighting to get all warranty work done can take 1-2 years in my experience. Buying a 3-4 year old example often even has extra equipment and accessories for nearly no extra price included. If you absolutely want a factory new RV in my mind it is much more important to find a dealer with good reviews and by the brand that they represent.
Well said Chris interesting info, normally pricing/quotes should be valid for 30 days . Thanks for sharing a real bad example of poor customer service and processes.
I had a huge amount of pain ordering a new van from Marquis in Newbury (Berkshire) in 2017. I was listening to a load of promises from the manager who promised to do this and that next week. When I came back next week I found he had left. Apparently he had a 3 month notice period so he would have known he wasn't going to be there the following week and would have been laughing up his sleeve. Really unprofessional outfit. That was 2017 so may be different now.
“Be Aware” M&C Ltd (Motorhomes and Caravans Ltd ) that are in Hull. Please please stay well away from that company. I’ve had the worst experience with an 75k Motorhome. Myself and my wife has agreed to never to return and to dig deep into our pockets for all repairs etc
I was going to suggest they sell the parts at trade to whoever you decided to use for the install, the goodwill went very early on this. Glad you got the outcome you wanted and thought you were patient to be fair. I've had a few bad experiences with motorhome dealers, they don't see the opportunity to cement a long lasting customer relationship when things go wrong.
Could you please find 6 year warranty right telegraph newspaper? Have a read.....In the UK, consumers have the right to raise a claim about a product for up to six years from the date of purchase, regardless of the terms of any guarantee. This is known as the six-year right and is protected by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If a retailer refuses to honor the terms of the agreement, consumers can take legal action
Those responses are a disgrace and the guy clearly can’t write or read his own quotes 😅 Good job for calling it out. I wasn’t sure if this was going to aire on slander a defamation but the evidence and story is clear. Another reason I’d never buy a built van unless I knew the builder.
@@CalMUK91 Why do they think calling you a drink container is an insult? XD
Ouch.
Fell for the old ‘ he looks skint arrogance’.
Jeez.
In 2024 that’s a bit crazy but still doesn’t surprise me.
I'd have driven the Tyne Valley Motohome into Marquis and told the guys manager how he missed out on a sale because his staff was an arrogant ^&*%
Why am I not surprised....large organisation only interested in profit. Customer care way down the list !
We had some pretty poor customer service from them also. Subsequently sold the van and went elsewhere
Good for you ! Power to the people, Chris!
They are a dreadful dealership, my experience was ok right up until they took my money!! Highlight was them getting paid by Adria for warranty work that they never actually did, despite having my van for well over a month - found that out after contacting Adria directly. Totally abysmal.
Chris
I just fitted an air suspension kit on my Bailey Adamo 75-4DL.
Hi l have had issues with Marquis it is a really poor company, anything to do with my Motorhome is NOT done at Marquis now, glad to hear you got your money back 👍
Anyone remember Brownhills? We had a shock experience with what was a cash purchase of a BN motor home.
Well done that man. ✊👏👏. So glad you stud your ground. Great result 👍
We've got a Ducato Horsebox. Beware the gearbox crunching. Expensive repair! Luckily we got ours sorted under the 3 month warranty.
It comes under Sale of Goods Act plus contract law, eg. breach of contract. You can get the first 30 mins free with any solicitor to outline your case.
OMG. How much for front struts?! I would have binned it after the first quote. They're taking the p!55
Hi Chris I’ve had the E & P levelling installed and the full VB Air. The big advantage of the full VB Air is that it works in conjunction with the jacks. So when you ask the jacks to level the VB Air lowers itself fully for the jacks to have their greatest possible range. Then after the jacks have levelled the air takes up any slack
Additionally the self levelling on the air is great when you stop in a lay-by fit a coffee. Also the air is great to tip the van sideways when emptying the grey water
Great video Chris and well played for standing your ground!
Just had VB semi Air £1300 from Turriff Caravans. That prices are a rip off.
Thanks for the heads up, good Luck 👌👌
Any Trigano group van is absolutely terrible build quality. Our Chausson was crap. Have a Dreamer camper now and the build difference is like night and day.
Good solid advice. Keep up the good work mate.👍
Had a great experience with Camper UK in Lincoln
Very well said and pointed out. This will hit them "Marquis" and that sales person needs to retrain or get rid. Damaged is done.
Looks like you’ve saved me a few quid there - I was planning on using Marquis for a big job. I’ll go elsewhere. Thanks for sharing your experience.
❤Brilliant Love that you are clearly explaining consumer law, and that you are encouraging people to stand firm but polite.Chris is correct!👍 😊
Did you pay on your credit card? Have you spoken to your bank?
@@garymclean707
Yes, our ducato has a lot of road noise, worse than our old previous model which was 2005.
It’s unbelievable that you have to argue about the matter like that. Luckily, you didn’t give up. This seems to be a worldwide way of operating.
Ha
bud if the front struts are good just get reinforced springs
throw them on your struts
Well done Chris very informative 👏👏
Thanks Chris, good advice much appreciated 👍
Well done for sharing your experience. We had problems with our new van from Pearman Briggs. He even told me I was being petty! End of the day it’s a box on wheels!!!! Yes 70 grands worth 😡. When I said we’ll reject it he managed to do the repairs in 15 minutes 😡. Needless to say it was shite. We have tried to avoid any dealings since and like you sorted minor issues via someone else
Good on you chris for holding your ground and sharing! Terrible service for sure 🤨
Bad craic that mate, Sounds like the type of company to give a wide one! Thanks for heads up.
FYI It is Marquis who own Autosleepers, yes they named the holding company Autosleepers but it was Marquis paying money to AS and has Marquis directors. From what I could discern the 2 companies seem to dislike each other :-)
All my problem was with the local staff at Marquis Berkshire. That was 2017 so may be different now.
Marquis are absolutely shocking to deal with our local branch have absolutely no customer relations at all they could not give a crap once you have brought it.
Good info Chris, thanks. Also thanks for the Trucker Tim recomendation, I'm hooked!
He is great isnt he
Well done you.
I think (and I'm no expert) that as soon as they altered the price of the amount you needed to pay, they have broken the contract?
Good for you. I have an issue with Mercedes Benz at the moment and its nice to hear the "little man" winning every now and then...because its not frequently enough.
@@comeoncloud I brought a brand new Mercedes from Mercedes Benz of Newbury.
Car not the spec ordered. Paint awful. They said ‘’ you didn’t buy the car from us, you brought it from Mercedes uk”
I had never spoken to anyone other than salesman @ Newbury.
Wanted to throw car back. 14 months later I still won a £140k lemon. I would go to press but public don’t like people who pay that much for a car.
I’m never buying anything from Mercedes again
I had quite expensive parts fitted to my van some years ago, not a penny was required in advance.
The terms and conditions have to be on your receipt, which basically had jack diddly on it 🤔😂
The minute they increased the price you should have walked away, a bit nieve to pay up front for parts that should have been a warning but glad you got your money back.
This is why you use a credit card and not a debit card. You request a charge back on your money, they also get charged about £50 for the privilege of having the money claimed back. Then they’re fighting you, not you fighting them.
⬆️🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
Gliderite are a brilliant company for any suspension or self leveling needs.
Dealers will have to make a mark up on a mark up on a mark up.
You could have asked your payment card issuer to chargeback the deposit you paid.
Good job you know your rights Chris 💪. I wonder how many other customers have been spoon fed there rubbish 😮 shocking.
Excellent video, looking forward to watching your other videos, subscribed
Thanks very much for this info as was going to go and view an auto sleepers at Durham but I won’t now
Regards to you Chris.
Well done, Chris
Sounds familiar for far too many. Brought a used van. Sales were pretty good. Aftercare non existent. Told the van had been services. Checked with Mercedes and it wasn’t. As had on e mail managed to get dealer to pay for one. Have now gone back to an old family run dealer for service and maintenance. Big dealer just all about the money. Great to see a refund!
Stand's to reason with the sudden popularity in motorhomes they were banging them out right left and center build quality out the window
I had very good service from A & E Leisure on my Full Air system. Sorry, but not surprised you've been messed about by you know who.
Agreed Bob - A&E Leisure have been fantastic for our VB Semi Air and HY4 levelling installation and provided great service :)
This reinforces the fact that too few consumers take advantage of the Consumer Rights Legislation that exists in the UK.
great video.
GLTBGYD
I had a huge amount of pain ordering a new van from Marquis in Newbury (Berkshire) in 2017.
I was listening to a load of promises from the manager who promised to do this and that next week. When I came back next week I found he had left. Apparently he had a 3 month notice period so he would have known he wasn't going to be there the following week and would have been laughing up his sleeve. Really unprofessional outfit.
That was 2017 so may be different now.
I had a terrible experience buying from there Plymouth branch. Shocking company to deal with. Once they’ve sold you a motorhome they’re not bothered !
Chris what’s your website
Those responses are a disgrace and the guy clearly can’t write or read his own quotes 😅
Good job for calling it out. I wasn’t sure if this was going to aire on slander a defamation but the evidence and story is clear.
Another reason I’d never buy a built van unless I knew the builder.
