I was today years old when I learned that stand ground for melee units will keep them from attacking random targets . Amazing learn
Yeah I also hated how specifically attacking one unit didn't mean attack that unit considering I took the time to select that unit. Especially when archers will walk past every unit just to attack that said unit on any stance.

Damn, I always used no attack stance on scouts, but never thought about archers. The amount of units I've lost to TCs when fixing eco is too damn high. No more! Thanks for these videos, great little advices!
Good point, I lean towards defensive stance but they'll still chase a short distance, but wasn't sure how observantly they'd attack.
Usually I favor melee also but mix squads.

Obviously lots of practise on the game but equally just putting in hours. It's obvious that it's not only hotkeys etc. It's just as much your 10k hours letting you think properly and "multitask".

I learned the MAA into archers from your first tutorial and went straight from 700 ELO to 1000.
I even developed my own BO out of this one, which works only with japanese on four lakes, but it's really OP.
Damn 700 elo can do m@a into archers? Your opponents will hate you haha

Starting at around ELO 900, I experienced pretty good build orders from other players.
For example, I got rushed with the ultra fast lithuanian drush by a guy with 2K games. I guess he was smurfing though...
@@VivekGawande1 it's pretty current to see it, even for this elo, but it not really execute well in low level. Most of the time, th maa rush into the TC, he don't scout the opponent map, he is late, he only hit a palissade, etc. You can pratice every build at every level, but for some, it's really hard to be consistent and use it effectively
@@zudaha actually my M@A mostly run into the TC because I forget to set them on stand ground.
@@vondralbra5147 Or you set to stand ground, and get killed without figthing back, because you set up your eco and transition to archer, that why this build is hard. Send 3 maa to the ennemy the easiest part

The Stand Ground to attack one unit at a time is a big one, I almost always use Aggressive stance and I suppose when the units are condensed and can't immediately attack they just go right to another unit to attack. Makes sense, not sure how I missed that this whole time.
HERA DESERVES HIS PLACE OF HONOUR IN THE AOEZONE HALL OF FAME FOR SURE. A true trailblazer like kkab, Koven, Grunt & Halen.

These videos are so useful. I am 1650 currently and I've learned something from each one of these videos. Can never understand players that say these are below their level if they are 11/1200.
I honestly think these guides will get me to 1800 at least.

after selecting multiple buildings (let's say three stables) what is the best way, shift production or just pressing the production shortcut multiple times. any other way to get one unit in each instead of 5 in each?

Hey Hera great vid as always i love to play alone but not as much with my friend if you could do a tutorial for 2v2 i would be so happy :D we are at 1800 elo in 2v2 ty really much
i would love to see this video was against a 1300 elo player and not the AI. It would illustrate way better the effectivness of what you learn, and also, what to do to resist against some pressure, because the AI just never really attack

Can't lose elo for certain vids
I always put my first 6 sheep vils on control group 2. Thus I can quickly drop off food if there's missing some for the next vil and it helps for the boar kill. The boar vil is 3 and will be added to 2 after the lure.

this is kinda mandatory for the chinese start, since you need to constantly drop off food
Great work Hera.. I really appreciate your work..I would like to suggest something. I believe it will be better if you could play those games with that particular elo players instead of playing with the AI. I am sure you have a lot of supporters who could help you with that.
Probably hard to do that with his higher tier, it's not like he can make a dummy account.

Hi Hera love your work. Can you play against players that have less elo than you to reveal low elo players mistakes and what to do to beat them. It helps us more than watching you play against 2k+ players or bots. Keep your good work always cheer for u xx
Hera, when is better to go for 1 range and blacksmith instead of 2 ranges right away? mostly of ur games (i have saw) u go for fast PLUS 1 attack.

my problem is dark age n feudal BO is decent, but once im in castle age/imp, it all goes up in flames. just not too good at seeing multiple things on the map at once, micro is a joke n when im being raided i realise after 30 vils r dead 11

If I had known to use the wall formation and stand ground I would have saved hundreds of MAA to TCs. Managed to get to 1100 on aggressive stance LOL
Can someone explain the use of box formation here? Hera said that it keeps them tighter together but isn't Line formation the tightest formation? And I've noticed him toggling between Line formation and Box formation while avoiding enemy arrows but isn't Flank/Split formation a better choice for avoiding enemy shots?
A small group in box turns without leaving a unit all alone so when moving it's tightest.
It also protects your ranged on flanks or from behind, and the tightness rivals line formation up to around 40-45 units depending on the blend. Sometimes 50 but usually upper 40s they gap.
With small squads yeah, if they turn there's always a corner of both. With line the ranged can end up facing the enemy on a backwards click result or in my case, a bulk of infantry, the front line can receive fire before or needing prompting for the back row.
Hera, why didn't you still show us how you garrison and then ungarrison 2-3 vills right on the deer next to TC. This secret is still not revealed. How do pro's do this and how do they do quick walls gates?
it's just another hot key. as a beginner I was wondering as well. just check out the hot keys in your settings and try vs ai

Hera! I have a question; why is the MAA upgrade so important? I see some people D rush with normal militia.. Is it because they cant vill fight the MAA?
M@a are much stronger and they can apply pressure, you make in order to supplement your army, usually archers or towers, to pressure walls, you make them on the way up and upgrade them instantly so they are much faster than archers that need a mass and fletching. Militia are different because they delay your feudal age because of the food investment. When you drush you are aiming to distract your opponent in order to buy time to go for your own strategy and walls, like going fast castle or archers.

Hera, instead of playing a game vs a bot, you should grab clips from other existing games vs pro players, it would be much more accurate and engaging. Thx for the content i was really looking forward to this one, and will to the next one aswell
What do I do, if the enemy is all walled up by the time I reach his base with MAA and then he sends 3-5 scouts in my base? I am struggling to play this against any cav. civ.
Even if I am attacking with my MAA at the enemies base, I am struggling to manage my eco in my own base because of the scouts.
Also the archers aren't able to do much once the enemy is all walled up and reaches castle before me.
I felt sorry for the AI , such a massacre haha
I learned MAA into archers is better than direct archers. going straight archers requires delaying feudal time and being vulnerable to skirmishers
God I had this strat done against me at 1050 ELO
It almost worked until I flattened the archers with a mango heheh
But my god it was terrifying. These first three build orders are gonna carry me for sure

all other pros know only to flex and talk about random stuff. hera actually cares about the player base

I always thought it's a bug when my units would randomly attack other units instead of the one I clicked. It turns out to be the stances. Was it the same in Conquerors?

Is it only me, but I don't think that following just basic BO in 2022 (eg. scout rush, archer rush, FC) is not getting you to the 1K? I'm constantly struggling around 900, even though I tend to apply basic techniques (consistent development along dark age, walling, boar luring, applying the pressure in terms of rush builds..). I might be lame, though ;). But I don't believe in what is said in @Hera videos or the commnets that "just following archer rush will get you to 1200". People with 920 - 950 can be super aggressive, with maa / drushes or very good at counterfighting in Castle age, it's a struggle. Max I got was 940 and there's around 100 ranked games already played by me. What about you?
You are overestimating what people at your ELO are capable of. Watch a replay in Capture Age, see how much TC idle time you have. You can hit 1300 just following any build order that you are good at executing.

Straight archers works far better for me, imo M@A take a lot of resources and you’re not able to make many archers in feudal age with fletching

Yes but if you play arena with this extreme AI it will kill you
its funny how off pros are about rating, this is like 700 elo stuff, never seen a 6 or 700 elo not do this stuff (700 elo myself)
I feel like this is a very low elo build order. If you go up with 21 vils on 1300 you will get murdered, as people tend to go up with 19 or 20.
I really don't think there's any correlation between the ELO numbers Hera uses and the concepts he talks about. Literally everyone at 800 elo knows all these build orders.

they do it, but really poorly. I've seen more maa rush in 900-1100 elo than at 1200, but they most of the time hurt themselve more by doing it. The control of the maa during your build is hard to do, and most of the time, there a lot of idle vil or TC, or maa who just run into the TC. So they new it, but it's not effective at all

I'd love to see you try this with civs other than Ethiopian, like goths. Because the 100 food and gold boost in feudal helped here in researching m@a/wood upgrade/fletching/vils. I, being a noob just am not confident enough to try this with any civs I get from 'random'.

I'd say give them thumb ring.
@@HiggsBoson1995 give them thumb ring, remove +1 range in castle and move that to imperial. So in imperial they get +2 range same as now, and give them thumb ring. That way you can still use siege vs them in castle age.
Hera at 1300 elo your oponent dont play like the IA
why not play against one of your 1300~ elo viewers while making the guide?
Would be the same outcome but just take longer to set up, and would prolly be annoying for them if i keep pausing
@@HeraAgeofEmpires2 i agree, but with that said it would be really nice to see at least one video in the series to be against a player (not necessarily the viewer, and without pausing, more like a showcase)
Also it would be really nice to see you analyze recorded game, and analyze both players and what they are doing good, what they are doing bad, and why one or the other have won the game, you can pause the hell out of that :D
