yeah Spanish CA can be a little more situational but Burmese Hussars with UT especially is definitely a very solid trash unit for them - they basically become Persian knights with 2.5 times the extra damage against archer civs
I'd always go conqs as Spanish. It's an all around better unit. Even if you're melee civ, if you have thumb Ring you go CA against Teutons, but even then conqs work better. Only problem is Castles.
Loved this video! I think Vietnamese also have a great late game comp with imperial skirm + elite battle elephant. But the rattan archer is really strong too so I'll try that one out as well. :)
Absolutely wonderful video. I would love a civ guide book with this. Each page could have the tech tree, bonuses, maybe references to build orders and these compositions.
For the Byzantine, I suggest a minor change where frontline units are the combination of Cataphracts and Camel Riders instead of Halberdiers, escorted by skirmishers and trebuchets. I know this is rather gold intensive, especially when factoring upgrade but I feel like this combination is much deadlier, especially when considering that the "trash" combo cannot effectively deal with onagers or even scorpions

Again, after the patch, elephant archers are not hard countered by skirmishers. With 25% greater attack and thumb ring, you have to use them. EA and Urami followed by siege elephants and bbc should do the trick.
@@gherlwinfireson8582 Bengalis late game is so terrible. No final armor for halbs, no hussar, only elite skirm are the fully upgraded trash unit. You will die to almost every civ. It is necessary to push the map with gold units and take map control.

Hi Hera, why are there so much more Arb+Halb comps compared to Cavalier+Skirm? Also, feels weird none of the suggested Pole comps include the insanely cheap Cavalier!
I think it's because it's not really worth it. Turning the Cavalier into a semi-trash unit sounds great on paper but you have to make a lot of units to make up for the research cost. Doesn't help that Hussars seem much more versatile despite their inferior stats and upgrade cost (you can save much more gold in late game for more sieges and crossbowmen)
They are great if you want to raid your opponent during Castle Age. Problem is that by the late Imperial age, you are better of saving your dwindling gold on sieges
I feel like it's a bit situational. It's really good if you have control over multiple gold mines on the map to keep the troops creation going but I think it's a bit gold intensive (especially when factoring upgrades). That and cavaliers can be a bit slow compared to hussars
I'd add magonels and mamelukes to the Saracens roster if you have good micro you can pull out some crazy KDs with the only thing being able to counter them being a very gold expensive mix of cannons halbs and onagers
Hey, thanks for the tips! Any chance you'll update this by adding the newest civs as well, and/or any other changes to the mentioned unit comps? This has been a lifesaver for new players like myself!
With byzantines I like to go arb+ alb using going imp faster thanks to the bonus and just go for the kill with arbalest power spike or doing double gold with arb+ camel or arb + cata against meso and goths
For some civs, like Celts, you have overlooked the Scorpion. 40% health and faster creation rate is insanely strong. The upgrade doesnt cost gold and its got AoE damage that doesnt kill your rams/pikes/woads.
Teuton’s halb+onagers is just so slow in castle age. Therefore, I go knight(+TK against pikes) to be mobile. In Late Game with less gold, I just go halb+BBC. Also scouts can raid enemy base 😜
Hey hera absolutely loved this video. Would you be able to make a paper guide/ website I would be able to reference for this entire video? Amazing content as always!
My turk comp is always 40% Janissaries, 10% Bombards, 60% Hussars. The startegy is use the hussars to tie up and slow down whatever the enemy is using in melee, while the Janis and extra long range bombards just fill them with lead, allowing you to even beat paladins while losing almost nothing but trash units. The reasoning is, the only things that really threaten massed janissaries are skirms (easily countered by hussars) and onager shots. The only weakness is you have to closely watch and make sure you snipe the onagers with hussars before they can get close.
I come back to this video every so often just to check what I should be playing towards with each civ. Hera I really like conqs is there an optimal late game option that includes them for Spanish?
In my experience the best comp for Sicilians is Cavalier + Halb. You don't really need the skirms to counter enemy units cuz of the 8 pierce armor on the cav and the bonus damage reduction. But when your enemy matches your cav you are usually out of luck since paladins are stronger in straight up melee fights. Hence the halbs in this comp. How do you feel about it?
Its not that it doesnt make sense, but double melee comp will always be awkward simply because of how the game works, it will require a lot of micro for your engages to be decently efficient. You can use it if it works for you but double melee is a no-no as a rule of thumb
I like it, good reasoning there. Altho next patch its only 33% bonus damage reduction so i think skirms might be necessary. Ofc if opponent is on cav then halb is better
Hey if you got a script try using a nice fluffy blanket on you and, mic and screen to help tone down the echo. Would make a major improvement to the audio quality.
For the Poles, I suggest maybe sprinkle in some Obuch instead of going full Winged Hussars for melee units. If your opponent goes skirmisher and paladins escorted by scorpions you are pretty much done for because of lack of efficient counter. The Obuch can literally break the armor of Paladins to allow Winged Hussars to deal more damage to the Paladins
So this is kinda a confirmation bias on what I had for certain civs. I’ve tried to make unit comps work but it just seems to fail and now I’m seeing it’s because they just aren’t their “best option”. Particularly the Vikings, Burmese, Teutons, Huns stood out the most for me.
the teutons could have heavy scorpions instead of catapults or ranged units, since they get extra armor they are viable in melee fights and they're cheaper than catapults too
This video took a lot of work to make, especially for my editor. I really hope you guys enjoy it!
Edit: elephant archers are pretty good right now, dravidians and bengalis can definitely go for them as the power backline unit.

@@quakethedoombringer I understand your point, but it is most certainly worth it. :)
I’m surprised the Vietnamese comp didn’t include Imperial skirm. Is there a particular reasoning why it’s not ideal for the late game? Thanks!
If his opponent just spams siege and champions, he is doomed. Also I think it doesn't utlize gold very well for the firepower I presume
Maybe a bit noob, but isn't elite Woad Raider a good unit to go for with the Celts?
Can be strong in mid game but it's not great use of gold for endgame comp
They are great if you want to raid your opponent during Castle Age. Problem is that by the late Imperial age, you are better of saving your dwindling gold on sieges
Isn't it possible for Poles to go for Cavalier + Arbalest? Especially if you have relic advantage
Great video!! Appreciate it
Hey, thanks for the tips!
I like to play Slavs differently than Hera presented as well!
Can someone please make a mod so that this video starts playing on the game loading screen for each civ i pick?
Wow, the Spanish comp surprised me. Instead of the MBL style you can also choose the Survivalist style and go Conqs and Donks
Hey hera absolutely loved this video. Would you be able to make a paper guide/ website I would be able to reference for this entire video? Amazing content as always!
No i cant make that but some community members might be able to make one eventually
@@HeraAgeofEmpires2 why did you stop your amazing BO doc :(
Was well worth a sub
@@forsakenquery I agree the build order docs are amazing!
Hera´s videos are like AOE2 University
Wow so good, i will need to subscribe on Twitch :D
Great video, as for Poles, would you not use their cheap cavalier?
Yep that's a better comp for Sicilians
Very good video
Love the content
So this is kinda a confirmation bias on what I had for certain civs. I’ve tried to make unit comps work but it just seems to fail and now I’m seeing it’s because they just aren’t their “best option”.
Particularly the Vikings, Burmese, Teutons, Huns stood out the most for me.
pretty often recomended light cav + cav archers ? isnt there lack of response to heavy cav ?
Gonna play some random and keep this video playing on loop.
So with Japanese you don't like to use Samurai? Or just supplement the halbadier/arbalest combo with Samurai as necessary?
the teutons could have heavy scorpions instead of catapults or ranged units, since they get extra armor they are viable in melee fights and they're cheaper than catapults too
