Hey kiddo, I have photographs from all over the country. I took while on motorcycle trips, they were all taken with that little RX100 and when I showed him to people they all think it was taken with my full frame camera. I was able to get those photos because I always had the camera with me. Godspeed!
so cool to hear. i have large prints hanging up in my home from this camera and they’re some of my favorites i’ve ever shot. it has definitely taught me things!
loved you video and comments on why you opted for the RX100VII. I recently gave all my Full frame kit apart from the A6300 amf 2 lenses to my daughter as lugging am AR7II and all the lenses, tripod, filters etc on any trips was just making things a chre not a pleasure. I now use my RX100VII for 90% of my photograpy. Kited out with the lensmate 52mm filter adapter I can have the same range as I had with my full frame but it all including filters and tripod etc fits in a single and small shoulder bag. For normal everyday carry I can have nust the camer and spar battery in a pocket. I am taking more photos not what I have for a long time. The passion for photagraphy has returned.
pretty much exactly what happened to me when i bought it! it is my daily carry and i take it everywhere. still surprised at some of the photos i get with it. it is very fun to use. thank you for watching and for the comment!
Great insights Christian. I’m 65 and have sold my Canon gear (5d3 plus lenses) to buy the Sony RX100 vVII… much less weight to carry and I feel ready to shoot in most situations. I’d like to hear and see more of your street photography experiences. Thanks. Ashley
i have only loved this camera more and more since i bought it and made this video. it is such a great every day camera. i have several large poster sized prints of photos i’ve taken with it in my home and i’ve taken some of my favorite photos ever with it. thanks so much for the kind words! definitely want to make more street photography videos
Honestly this is incredibly helpful so thank you 😭 I've fallen down the same rabbit hole of Sony/Fuji/Ricoh too and this finally helped me decide. I'm only a hobbyist and carrying my DSLR kit when traveling is such a hassle so this is exactly what I'm looking for
it is a great little carry everywhere camera for sure. it has some limitations that fuji and ricoh don’t have but that zoom range makes up for it to me personally. it takes all the pressure off. i took 90% of my favorite photos of 2022 on this camera. thanks for watching and for the kind words!
I've sold almost all my pro gear and downsized to an iPhone, and Canon G7x III. I am on the go a lot or travel, and tired of the lenses and gear. Recently, I've been testing the Xperia 1 V and I've got to say it's the best camera on a phone yet. That will be a purchase I make. It's that great of a camera.
I bought my Sony RX100 Vii with a 60m rated Ikelite underwater housing a year ago for my diving photos. It was a lot of research but bang for buck it's been the best set up for me. I can use it all day diving then out of the housing like you said a great all rounder, perfect for travel.
it’s such a great camera. i have gotten very comfortable with it and now that i’m used to editing the photos and know wha to expect when i take it out, it’s a pleasure to use. thanks for watching!
I have a canon R6 with all RF lenses. It became a pain in the ass lugging the camera bag around when I was with the wife and kids. I think I may need to pick up this little compact
@@rudyrivera2964 the canon G7X cameras aren’t bad either and offer similar performance if you did want to stick with canon. you lose the viewfinder though which is my favorite part of this camera. definitely worth checking the sony out either way!
Great video, thanks for making it! I am in a similar situation, choosing between the Fujifilm x100vi and the Sony. I am leaning towards the latter for the compactness and functionality that the zoom lens brings, but I doubt about the Fujifilm for the better sensor (also thinking of low light), the excellent profiles in the camera, and maybe a bit for the cool aesthetics. It's useful to hear about your experience with the Sony!
I’m looking into getting the rx100vii even though I love and record everything on my ax53 😅but my daughter is in dance class and when she performs at stadiums etc they don’t allowed me to take my ax53. And I heard they allow compact cameras…
sony and third parties make a pretty cool handle for this camera that allow you to zoom/record from the handle so the filming experience is a bit better. i really only use this camera for photo. ive tried doing some simple video with it but it’s not great doing it handheld so ive been looking into getting one of those controller handles. i think it could work well for that use case though as long as it isn’t too dark in there. if your ax53 can handle it i’m sure the RX100 can! id actually love to get a smaller camcorder for casual family stuff
Hey Christian, first off, Great video man! Very informative, and very inclusive id say. You explained your points very well without alienating other people/brands! Amazing job! Next, as a fellow rx100 vii owner, i couldn’t agree more with your points! It really is a great camera, one that i don’t feel like im missing out on features when i decide to leave my fullframe camera at home! Cheers! Hoping to see more of your vids brother!
thanks so much for the kind words man!! and also appreciate you taking the time to watch. i’ve had a ton of fun with this camera and have only come to like it more since this making this video. definitely going to make more content with it!
For my private stuff I just cut everything down to the RX100 VII and the Canon G5X MKII. Same reason like you said. You get to a point when it's just enough. The RX100VII is an extremely versatile tool. I call these tools as they work also perfectly as back up when you shoot professional. But is the Sony the best compact ever?! I would tend to say no as it is the G5X MKII. This is a photographers tool. It's 24-120mm F1.8-2.8 generates easily blurry backrounds. Way easier than with the Sony. The lens isn't perfect but it's range combined with the brightness is so special, it's like a little marvel. Take to an event as back up camera and you will just love it. It let's you play with the DOF. The thing is, the Sony is perfect in terms of tech. It's super fast, it records 4k till the card is full, the AF is out of this world and you would say, this must be the best compact. Than you take the Canon with it's sluggish AF system, crippled in so many ways by Canon as they know, this camera would be to good and you instantaneously feel, that this is still the better camera for photographers. Might sound stupid, but it is what it is. I gave this little thing on a two days corporate event to my co-photographer and said to him, just try it. After some hours I have to remind him, to also use the big Sony. You really get addicted to the Canon it's just to conveniend.
thank you! the camera definitely doesn’t get enough love here on youtube. most people talk about it as a vlog camera but it really shines for spur of the moment photography
megapixels are normally the least of my concerns. i do photography mainly for fun and share mostly to social media where no amount of megapixels matter after compression. that being said, the photos look great and the main difference in image quality between a phone can be seen when simply zooming in and cropping. phone photos completely fall apart when you crop or zoom in or try to make large prints. megapixels on a phone sized sensor are also much different than on a 1” sensor like the RX100. you just get a lot more data. also the zoom range sets it in a different league than phones entirely. if you’re regularly cropping your photos heavily or making very large prints, megapixels may matter more to you. i’ve really enjoyed what i’ve gotten out of this camera so far!
The 48 megapixels on the iPhone 14 pro aren’t really 48 megapixels. It’s still 12 mp, but pixels are quad grouped. This RX 100 will produce better images hands down.
iPhone 14 Pro has smaller pixels and runs far more math to make the images work. I will say that magic math works better in low light than the rx100. I’ve got the m6 which is nearly the same as m7 and low light is blah. You have to shoot wide open and pulled all the way back.
Would you say this performs well in dark venues? Like music shows? Also a noob question regarding post processing. Is it possible to get a fujifilm look out of an RX100VII Raw image? with the use of lightroom or other softwares? I like that film look but the sony's compactness and zooming capability is too hard to let go hahaha
i was the exact same way. i was very drawn to the fuji look but the zoom and pocketable form factor was for me. you can definitely get a look thats pretty close in lightroom if you know what you're doing. i came up with a preset that took me a while to tweak just right but i get a look now thats very satisfying. regarding darker areas, unfortunately the camera doesnt do super well. when youre zooming in and hit f4.5, its just hard to get crisp images. i'd say the ISO is usable up to about 2000 bwfore it starts looking bad. you can definitely get decent results, but not quite like you'd get from an ASPC sensor on a fuji. thats why i wanted a camera with a flash, though. i like that disposable camera look with bright flash in dark areas, so it works for me in dark areas when i dont have to zoom much. you could also look at the RX100 V which has a 24-70 1.8-2.8 lens instead of the 24-200 2.8-4.5 lens. so it will do decently better in the dark, you just wont have as much zoom range. you could also look at the sony ZV-1 for this and it will be much cheaper, you just don't get the viewfinder and flash on the ZV-1. i regularly post photoshoots i take with this camera on my tiktok page @eliajuwon if you want to check out the film-like edits i make. the past 5 or 6 photography videos i've posted on there have been with the RX100 VII. hope this helps!
@@ChristianElia Uh oh youtube kept removing my comment because I attached a gdrive link :( But anyways thank you so much! I will check out your tiktok! I just wanted to ask if the mark 6 is good if i dont really need that mic jack on the mark 7? or would you say the autofocus upgrade is worth the money? I also wanted to ask regarding the Mark 5! I was going to show my sample images from my phone so you can see the distance and the lowlight-ness. Because I wanted to ask if the mark5's zoom will suffice D: Is there anyway I could send you the link through email or something? :O Sorry for so much questions! I'm a total beginner and the local stores here keep giving me dry short replies, or just telling me to buy the newest model. Tbh you're probably one of the kindest youtubers Ive talked to! I'm subbing, your content is very informative and also funny
it has been a total joy to use. i really love it even more since releasing this video. the rx100 V is awesome, the built in ND almost sold me on it. i just knew i’d love that longer zoom. i agree about the B&W also!
I have the A73, A7S3 and the rx100m7 and the camera I reach for the most is the rx100. The versatility and size can't be beat. If I had of bought the RX100m7 first its possible I may not have bought the other two based on my needs. I only have two gripes and they are the battery size(especially in the cold) and I wish it was waterproof(not really a legitimate complaint).
my A7S3 is my favorite camera ever since i’m video-first, but the RX100 comes with me everywhere. the only complaints i have are just related to the small sensor. i wish it had better dynamic range and better low light but that’s about it. awesome little camera that i really enjoy a lot
way to break it down. I currently own a Rx100m7 and totally love this thing. I have a full-frame Nikon z5 and bring the Sony for the ride. Comparing both images, Nikon will look better, but this one-inch sensor does not play around. Autofocus is top-of-the-line. I am currently waiting for my micro 4/3 Olympus to compare with the Sony.
this is exactly how i feel! of course it doesn’t stack up to my full frame sony, but in several ways my full frame does not stack up to the rx100. i can’t put it in my pocket, take it into concerts/festivals, etc. the rx100 is so flexible and the image quality is remarkable for what it is. i’m excited about the future of tiny 4/3 cameras as well. thanks for the comment!
I'm on the same boat right now. Looking to buy my first camera. I really want that "pocketable" feature, and Ill be using it mostly for family trips and concerts. Used my iphone 12 pro for a concert few weeks back and I was kinda disappointed. The shots were super grainy and had lots so much details, I wasnt that far from the stage so I just did a little zooming. I'm torn right now between the GR3x/FujiXE4/SonyRXVII. One of the main reasons is that I really like that fuji "film" look (Im not sure if its an editing thing or do only fuji cameras do that kind of simulation). But the zoom of the sony really impresses me too. (edited my comment as it was all over the place hahaha)
i have been extremely happy with the sony since buying it. i will say, however, the photos require some editing to make them pop. I do not like the look of the photos straight out of camera. i also really enjoy the film vibes of the fuji, and i have developed a preset for my personal tastes that i really like a lot once i use it on the sony images. it makes the pictures have that sort of film vibe. you'll have to be careful using the sony in low light. once you zoom in and are shooting at f4, it starts to get hard to get higher quality images. you can comfortably push the sony to about 1600 iso or 2000 but beyond that it gets very noisy. but again, im not using this for professional work. just memories and daily photos which i think its perfect for once i edit the photos. it is such a convenient camera. let me know if you have any other questions, i know it can be a hard decision!
@@ChristianElia Thank you so much for the detailed reply! I do have another question, might sound a bit dumb apologies as I'm still getting into the world of photography. Do you think the Fuji X100/XE4's zoom will suffice for mid range zooming or is a standard 28mm very limited on the zooming? Because the concert is really one of the main factors for me I guess asides from family trips. I'm not always on the front row, a bit on the middle-front ish. And its a wee bit dark. Another is that Ive always been doing the "take a photo" while video recording feature on my phone. Is that possible on the sony or is the best thing I can do is to take a frame out of the video I've recorded? (And is that going to be on par with taking a photo from the camera?) And lastly, since im kind of leaning on the sony side now. I think I saw a big sale on the RX VI model, in your opinion do they have a very big difference? I saw their specs on paper but im not super familiar with photography terms yet 😢 But after watching your video, I guess what I want in a camera is "compact" "flexible on lowlight situations" "capable of zooming", maybe for the film look I'd have to start studying the editing side. I'm sorry for the long essay of questions, im just kind of lost but not really hahaha. Thank you so much once again! 😄
@@min10596 no worries at all! you will be the most limited with x100. i think that camera is a great daily carry, but will not be ideal for something like a concert unless you just like the look of some of the crowd being in it. the x-e4 has the option to pair other lenses with it, so i think i would choose that over the x100. it will give you more room to grow with the camera if you ever decide you want more lenses. and you get a lot of the same features as the x100 so i think its a win win. there shouldnt be much difference between the VI and the VII. the image quality, lens and everything will be the same. its mainly autofocus features and a couple of video features that set it apart. i never use it for video, so im not sure if you can take a photo while recording video. you can take a frame from a video you recorded, but it will not be nearly the same quality as a photo you took. but, for social media sharing and posting online, it should be fine. hope this helps!!
@@ChristianElia Thank you!! then I think I will go check some fuji cameras tomorrow! I'm very excited to get one and try all those film simulations ive been watching about. Especially since im going to a concert next month and a vacation trip too. You have been very helpful, thank you very much!! Subbing because you're awesome and I really did find your content helpful and entertaining. See you!! ^^
I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Really enjoyed your video on RX 100 vii. I'am thinking of getting it as travel camera to take videos and pictures of my kids while on vacation. So I do need a good zoom camera that is easy to operate and ready to go. Just have 3 questions, is there any overheating issue with this camera with shooting 4k videos? How is the image stablization in this camera while walking and talking videos? Comparing this to ZV1, which one do you recommend the most?
thanks so much for the kind words! i will be honest, i don’t use this camera for video so i can’t really speak on the features of it. it is purely a photo camera for me. if you were planning to do a good bit of video, i would probably go with the ZV1. you will have better low light capability and the flip out rotating screen which is a big plus. if you can live without the flash, viewfinder and long zoom then the ZV1 is better for doing occasional video. however, the RX100 wouldn’t be bad for video, just not as good in low light. if you won’t be doing low light stuff a lot and you want that long zoom range then you still can’t go wrong with the RX100
i’ve got one that i’ve been using in lightroom that i made to try and replicate 35mm film. i didn’t make the preset until after this video, but i did try and edit these photos with a film-look as well. i do think some kind of preset or editing of the photos is necessary for this camera. i don’t really like the photos straight out of camera at all
Fantastic review. I’ve been researching for a good pocket cam, and can totally relate to the “street photography rabbit hole on TH-cam.” Everything is about the Fuji 100V all because TikTok blew it up. I’m going to give this a hard look. It checks all the boxes for me as well. Have you made any prints with it?
i’m so bad about reading into everything with all the different camera and pieces of gear when i make purchases. it’s insane. after having this camera for a little while now i still greatly enjoy it. once you set your expectations and realize you won’t get that full frame depth of field or amazing low light, it becomes a very awesome sidekick. i take it everywhere. i haven’t made prints yet, but i’ve been wanting to. i took like 85% of my favorite photos of 2022 on this camera just because i always had it. i’ve been wanting to decorate my apartment with some prints maybe up to like 16x20. will definitely make another video if i do!
i think it all comes down to what you're using it for! for any professional work i'd probably go with one of the APSC options like the Fuji. if it's meant to be a daily camera you take everywhere just to capture life, and you have other cameras for other jobs, then the RX100 is definitely worth looking at! i still use this camera all the time and love it.
@@ChristianElia i’m currently using 2 xt4s and an xt3 for wedding videography but wanted a smaller camera for fun without risking my work cameras 😅 i think you’ve convinced me on the rx100viii but i’m a little spend-happy and looking at the xe3/4 too 😂
@@diannangxyen i think i still eventually want to add a fuji to my kit at some point. they're very cool cameras. those xe cameras would definitely give a great result. it came down to the built in zoom for me. i love having that 24-200 range on the RX100 for daily stuff. i will say, due to the small sensor it's not great in low light, and it doesn't have the greatest dynamic range. those are my only "complaints." it performs best on a nice bright day. here's a google drive folder of some RX100 images that can give you a better idea of what to expect if you choose it! i'm still very impressed with the level of detail you can get with it: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qoGCZ8U5jjAp_clSny03AYyxGhHq9K0f?usp=sharing

Sorry for so much questions! I'm a total beginner and the local stores here keep giving me dry short replies, or just telling me to buy the newest model. Tbh you're probably one of the kindest youtubers Ive talked to! I'm subbing, your content is very informative and also funny
using a rx100m5. for me it was a better option due to faster lens.beast of a camera. i specially think the bnw on these are strangely, very good.
it has been a total joy to use. i really love it even more since releasing this video. the rx100 V is awesome, the built in ND almost sold me on it. i just knew i’d love that longer zoom. i agree about the B&W also!
You definitely know what you're talking about...🙆🏻
way to break it down.
(And is that going to be on par with taking a photo from the camera?)
And lastly, since im kind of leaning on the sony side now.
See you!! ^^
@@min10596 i appreciate the kind words so much!! thanks for subscribing, so excited for you!
I love this camera. I have the Sony RX100 VA.
i like it more and more every time i use it. im sure that lens on the VA is amazing too
I'm a new subscriber to your channel.
Good stuff mane. KEEP GOING.
appreciate you mane!
do you have presets?
i’ve got one that i’ve been using in lightroom that i made to try and replicate 35mm film. i didn’t make the preset until after this video, but i did try and edit these photos with a film-look as well. i do think some kind of preset or editing of the photos is necessary for this camera. i don’t really like the photos straight out of camera at all
Very sensible points...💁🏼
thank you! 😎
Great video…sold me on Vii
i appreciate it!
Great explanation to someone that has no idea!
glad to see you here!! thanks for the kind words!
This!
Charlotte represent! That Bank of America building sticks out like a sore thumb
yes sir! beautiful building and city 🔥 been enjoying living here the past 8 months!
Aps-c not Asp-c 😅
honest mistake lol
@@ChristianElia Absolutely and it also trigger fun engagement :D
i’m going through the exact same camera debate right now 😭
i think it all comes down to what you're using it for! for any professional work i'd probably go with one of the APSC options like the Fuji. if it's meant to be a daily camera you take everywhere just to capture life, and you have other cameras for other jobs, then the RX100 is definitely worth looking at! i still use this camera all the time and love it.
@@ChristianElia wow this is sooooo helpful! i have an 18-300 lens that i think i might take with my xs10 cam on hiking/camping trips but the rx100 is a really great option for cities! i also love how discreet it is too!
