Fun video. Watched it all the way through despite the fact I am NOT looking for a pocketable camera. I will say though that I was impressed with the HLG profile coming out of the RX100 VII. I don't think they forgot about it. It still sells well and they produce it without having to invest in any R&D. The competition is basically dead. The only zoom lens competitor is Leica D-Lux 8. Leica also sold the 7 model for years and it sold well. Leica D-Lux 8 costs 1.600 but has a bigger sensor than the Sony. That's basically it in this market segment. Sony just does not see a need for an update. Leica basically only changed the UI and gave it a facelift. Same lens and almost same sensor. I think as long as Sony sees it sells they won't change a thing.
They also forgot about the RX10 MKIV which was a terrific bit of kit with a 24 -600mm zoom. It just seems like Sony decided to stop developing the higher end bridge camera market. I'd love to see either camera with the updated menu and autofocus.

I got a better one for you! I went down this same rabbit hole last year while on a cruise and needed quality in my pocket. and I purchased the ZV1 because I was use to quality content with my full frame and we have no one inch sensor phones yet here (Actually Sony does) and that’s basically this with shorter reach and no flash! I loved it but wanted more than what my phone could do at the time! THEN I discovered a unicorn that not a lot of people talk about and that is the CANON G3X 🤯 I don’t even bring my full frame out anymore the G3X paired with my 16 Pro Max I have a powerhouse in my pocket and small bag! But to your point this fits in the pocket and it’s amazing device still to this day when you know how to use it! I sold mine because the IBIS is not good enough and now that iPhones have LOG and the prices is still high on these ZV1 and Mark 7. But to finish this post off I hear SONY is coming out with a new Point and Shoot possible with APS-C to take on FUJI 👀
Someone explain. Why is the Canon G7X Mk II going for $1000. on eBay. I think the TikTok kids are snatching them up. But I love mine for stills. (pocket travel.) 💁🏻♀️

Hi ! Is it normal in these types of cameras that the lens feels a little loose when fully extended? I have one recently and I feel like the lens has a slight play or movement that doesn't affect the photograph.
But for those that don't know the basics of photography will get worse results (than a modern smartphone) most of the time using a good pocket camera like a RX100. Blown out sky, blurry slow shutter auto mode pics indoors. Smartphones are simply the best point and shoot camera for the masses. They simply are the best AUTO mode cameras around and they are always on you. I own the RX100M5 , RX10M3 and A6400 w/ 30mm f1.4 and they are great but if I want my wife to get a acceptable picture quickly her phone is the best option.
I hate all this iPhone push from other creators like it’s a film camera . Having a good camera for a phone is one thing but making movies with it is just I mean it’s whatever but I’m not as excited about 28 days later 2 being shot on iPhone . I was hoping for a a prosumer camera or something .fx3 ,red Komodo , canon c80 ,black magic, etc . Woulda been better I think
Unless it's rx1 mark 2 or any full frame camera that's pocketable, pocket camera is not that all great if you don't want to do a lot of editing. Buying Vivo latest flagship for 1000 USD and u will understand.
🙌🙌😎😎 Good video, good info, I'm using the automatic translation subtitles, so maybe I missed something, but tell me. minute 15:29 why do the colors look so horrible? are you using a yellow or green filter?
@@JustinPhillip i did tons of guitar playing video in remote locations with these. Tbh it’s kinda a handy whenever you ain’t wanna bring big camera but still have a decent results. Plus I like the color out of this way more then those lousy zv-1 or zv-e10
I strongly disagree. I have several versions of the RX and numerous other small P&S cameras. They suck compared to any flagship phone for one simple reason. Ease of use. You can whip your phone out and snap pics in just seconds with a double push of the activate button. But to get the most out of a good P&S is by no means easy. They lack easy access to crucial functions, relying on layered menus and lots of studying of the manual. With the RX you land up using it in auto-mode which is no better than your good mobile's auto-mode. Unless you are really really into the camera and know how to move around the menus quickly, and how to get it to do what you want. You are better off using your phone for every day images, and carry a small crop-sensor camera when you want high IQ and that photography-feeling. This is especially true when travelling.
You really don't need a pocket camera if you just need auto. The auto daily camera is already replaced by a smartphone (that's why there is no cheap pocket camera anymore because they were obsolete). This pocket camera is for someone who knows photography and enjoys the process of it but wants a more compact package. Maybe someday if a smartphone can compete with this, this kind of camera will be obsolete too.
@@RizkhyDestatama you miss my point. Due to size constraints inherent in a camera like the RX series, getting to the features that make it stand above a phone camera is a mission. The RX100V for example {my favourite of the series due to its fast lens) is a beast, with an incredible feature-set. But to get to them - well it's a hassle. Adjusting and getting to what you want - it takes time and patience and studying. And don't assume I am a novice. I developed my first roll of film in my grandfather's darkroom in the '70's from my twin-lens reflex Yashica camera. I have hundreds of cameras to choose from - film to mirrorless. But objectively - my flagship-phone can produce similar results with ease. And here is the point: if you want to go out and do "photography" - take a real camera. If you are snapping and seeking a quick-fix - use that thing in your back-pocket. A good phone is insanely good these days. To hold for example a Canon 5D (and I have all of hem) and spend a day out and about taking images - wonderful and immensely satisfying. But I simply do no have the time or patience to dedicate a chunk of my life to make me a competent P&S operator. For any of the many I own. It's a thing - for me. Your experience will of course be different. I always land up regretting the urge that made me grab the P&S, and wished I had something with real controls.
@@TheDesertsweeperthe difference is when you zoom. You're not getting 200mm of reach out of your phone. I shot a reel at a bills game and it went viral with the rx100. I have a 15pro the image isn't close when you factor in the zooming. When you say getting those features is a mission??? You're just setting the exposure triangle lol?

Heck yeah, however just a reminder, this RX100 fell out my pocket while riding my bike, smacked on the pavement and it came out without any serious damage 🤘🏼
@@JustinPhillip ok that's some pretty sturdy build quality! But can it keep shooting when you're attending a peaceful protest and the cops bring out the water cannon? 😏
I have been using this camera for the last 8 yrs. I have sold then bought it then sold it then bought it and cannot find a better pocketable camera out there that does vid and photos better then this
Currently with mark 5
Nice!
Cant wait!
Someone explain. Why is the Canon G7X Mk II going for $1000. on eBay.
I think the TikTok kids are snatching them up. But I love mine for stills. (pocket travel.) 💁🏻♀️
yea the entire market for pocket cams is insane all due to tik tok
I hope you can review this against the Zv1
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 good stuff bro
thank you!
Just discovered your channel. Excellent stuff man. Was just wondering if you would recommend HLG + LUT + Adjustment on the ZV1 (since it's basically a video centric rx100vii and also 8 but). Was just wondering since it seems like shooting SLOG on 8 but compact is futile. Many thanks for reading. Have a great day
Yeah i think that formula would still be better than using log on 8bit. 🙌🏼
Man. Well done.
Thanks!
Hi ! Is it normal in these types of cameras that the lens feels a little loose when fully extended? I have one recently and I feel like the lens has a slight play or movement that doesn't affect the photograph.
Weird, i dont think thats normal
Bravo! Excellent content....🎉
Thanks!
Even in P mode or Full auto? Idk, i’ve handed the RX1 Rii to anyone and the shots look great every time.
Just a touch more profanity and this would've been a masterpiece!
🤣🤣
Didn’t want to go into Tarantino territory, I bet. 😅
since Sony finally woke up and released the RX100 VIII, should I wait?
i didnt' see that announcement
@@JustinPhillip Please accept my apologies... I think it was in my dreams. 😭
Great video 📸
Thanks!
Whats your thoughts about the zv1f ?
seems okay. i mean honestly, you really cant go wrong with a newer sony nowadays.
Thanks for a good laugh. This is some funny shite 🎉🎉🎉🎉
thanks!
Hi, what grip/ case do you use?
They’re listed in the description.
Which version of HLG was used HLG1, HLG2 or HLG3?
This camera only has one offering of HLG i believe
@@JustinPhillip a ok I have 3 in Sony AX700
@@JustinPhillip Picture Profile parameters: Black Level, Gamma (Movie, Still, Cine1-2, ITU709, ITU709 [800%], S-Log2, S-Log3, HLG, HLG1, HLG2, HLG3), Black Gamma, Knee, Color Mode, Saturation, Color Depth, Color Phase, Detail, Copy and Reset.
That's an expensive sh1ts and giggles
🤣 unfortunately that one is, but i think any of em down to the Mark V are solid, definitely a facebook marketplace or mpb item
But is this pocket camera better than the Vivo X100 Ultra?
🤷🏼♂️
micro USB 😭 Please please sony, renew it already
🤷🏼♂️
It starts at 3:05
…or ENDS
What's the case you are using??
The case?
Looks like you have a case that adds grip to the camera? Unless I'm mistaken
@@bdawgsohawt That's an add-on by Sony - not a case. There is a case, but then you can't use the camera.
I shoot film and what you've said here could only be less clear if it was narrated in Klingon. Backwards.
😆
Unless it's rx1 mark 2 or any full frame camera that's pocketable, pocket camera is not that all great if you don't want to do a lot of editing. Buying Vivo latest flagship for 1000 USD and u will understand.
🙌🙌😎😎 Good video, good info, I'm using the automatic translation subtitles, so maybe I missed something, but tell me. minute 15:29 why do the colors look so horrible? are you using a yellow or green filter?
Sorry i dont understand your translation.
RICOH GRIII
🤷🏼♂️
Sometimes you just want a toy, a good toy.
Heck this is the only decent camera allowed at most music fest for attendee.
100%
@@JustinPhillip i did tons of guitar playing video in remote locations with these.
Tbh it’s kinda a handy whenever you ain’t wanna bring big camera but still have a decent results.
Plus I like the color out of this way more then those lousy zv-1 or zv-e10
🤣🤣🤣
This is especially true when travelling.
mmmmm….agree to disagree. 😆
In ProRes you squint much less. I would say noticeably less like non at all.
👌🏼
These 1"sensor point and shoot cameras are much better alternative cameras for mobile phones cameras.
They are not popular because of the cost... they cost more than canon R100 MILC..... stupid camera companies can't make a point and shoot cameras with 1 sensor and cost around 200$.
These cameras never going to catch any market.
Probavly why they stopped. There’s always facebook marketplace tho!
I require 31 stops of dynamic range always. hard pass bro.
🤣🤣🤣
😂
2:31 this one doesn't make sense because you can get into the camera without having to unlock your phone. That's the case with iphones and almost every android.
The joke is face detect never works when you’re in a hurry.
You try to be more dramatic & it’s make so irritated, but your content on subject was really good…. Cutdown dramatic part and concern about content for future… however good job.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
this dude does not know about EOS M 😅🤣😂😅🤣😂😅🤣😂
I literally mention the EOS M, that was actually my first “cinema” camera back in 2017. 👌🏼
@@JustinPhillipalready to shoot video raw with them?
I have this Sony and an EOS M50 Mark II and EOS M200 and while the Sony is more compact, even more compact than my M200 with the 22 pancake lens the color science of canon...hard to beat it
