    The Sony RX100 VII is the most powerful compact camera I’ve tested to date. A 20MP CMOS sensor, 24-200mm full frame equivalent zeiss lens and 20 fps blackout free burst shooting.
    I’m also going to talk about frame rates, image quality and the ergonomics of the #sony #rx100vii compact camera.
    I’ve got a ton of Sony RX100 VII image and footage, we’ll talk about real-time tracking and eye-af, the mic input, pop up EVF and flip screen.
    I’ll also share some frustrations I had about the RX100 VII and try to help you decide it it’s a good option for you.

    What's up everyone?! I hope this review of the Sony RX100 VII was helpful. Did you like it? This camera isn’t inexpensive and I wasn’t sure if I would think it’s a good value. I was super impressed with the image quality, I love the autofocus and it is so compact and portable. The flip screen worked really well and the pop-up EVF is the best implementation I’ve seen.
    Is this a camera you would consider getting? Why or why not?

    I just got the RX100M7 4-years later as is still a great camera and from what I hear will be the last of its line from Sony. Sony sells a grip for the front of the camera which I fitted immediately which gets over the slipperiness and makes this camera as comfortable to handle as anything so small can be. One as far as I know unique feature of this camera is the ability to take full resolution stills while recording HD video. Ideal for the shooter like me that often forgoes video so as not to miss that perfect photo moment. With this camera it is possible to have both. I also like the flip up flash for fill-in. So two great features that even my top of the line Alpha 1 cannot offer. For me I will be using the RX100 as a camera I can take with me anywhere to get high quality images, or as even as an extra to carry with my full frame camera to get me focal lengths not covered by the lens on my A1. For example in my wildlife photography, 99% of my photos are with 400+mm lens, but I can pull out the RX100 on the occasion that an animal does come close.

    First, thanks for making the video. I've been using a Nikon Coolpix A900 for about 6 years now and it's time to upgrade. The vast majority of the shooting I do is from a recumbent trike, or somewhere I'll stop while riding and get up because I see a great photo op.. Usually that means wildlife, sunsets, sunrises, and other FL vistas. The most important things to me are speed in being able to get the camera out of my camelback, turned on, focused, and shot (and of course zoomed if necessary), image quality, and zoom and this camera appears to excel at all three. After looking over probably 15 or 20 different compact/travel cameras, this one does look like the one I'll buy.

    Hey Dude, always enjoyed your videos and only just watched this one as only just considering the RX100 VII. Even though the RX100 VII is over 3 years old, I am actually tempted to get one as an uber compact camera when travelling, I already have the A7C and love it, but my lens choices are not compact. I wish there was hopes of getting an updated MK VIII soon with USB-C and the updated menu, but I think it’s safe to say that Sony did the ZV1 and now has no interest in making a premium photo centric version with this form factor anymore. What’s your thoughts? Still worth buying in 2023, or has someone else made the ultimate compact camera that’s a no brainier?
    PS. Your video was the only one I found that explained where in the zoom range the F2.8 drops to F4 (44mm I think you said), so thank you for that I was really interested particularly on this. Huge thanks

    It's a great little camera, although a bit fiddly you can get some excellent results out of it. Nice as B cam and for video. I put the small rig cage on (latest one for the rx100vii) gives the grip, protection and access to all the ports without being to bulky.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it were me, I would get the m6ii to compliment the EOS R. It will be easier to match the color and the user experience will be very similar. If, however, you want 120fps with autofocus, you can look at the a6400 or the fuji x-t30 - both of which are less expensive than the rx100 vii.
      The true advantage of the rx100 vii is the portability. You can literally take it anywhere. Because with the other options, we're still talking about lenses, and accessories, whereas rx100vii - put in your pocket and go.Hope this was helpful.

    The shutter speeds are still quite high during day time.
    Seeing that the shutter only goes 1/2000, is the lens sharp at narrower apertures like upti f11?? When does the sharpness and contrast begin to drop off?? Does the AF suffer at those apertures??

    One of the best videos to be found on the web identifying and assessing the performance of rx100 vii features. If you are thinking about purchasing this camera, you should see this video.
    It provides important and valuable information for both still and video shooters. I have seen virtually all TH-cam videos on this camera and this is one of the most comprehensive reviews done to date.
    As a rx100 vii user, I agree with his assessment on the camera’s good features. But I wish the camera had better low light performance, as is pointed out in the video, and I wish it had a better ability to blur backgrounds and produce bokeh, which I don’t think the video mentions. Overall, a very fine review.

      The beautiful thing about this camera is that it is tiny - and yet so powerful.
      If I had unlimited budget and size/weight didn't matter, I could create higher quality content with the a6600 (plus a lot of money for lenses, filters, etc.). But if I need one camera to put in my pocket, take absolutely everywhere - I'm taking the RX100VII. Hope this was helpful.

    THANKS for this video and all that you do, I am just getting into photography I was taking pictures with a 13 year old point and shoot, so I took the plunge and bought a Canon SL2 with the kit lens EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Len so with this said what would you suggest for taking pictures and video at disney we are heading down there in early January. The camera store guy suggested 35mm 2.8 macro or EF 50mm F 1.8 stm, which you talked about can you help please? I forgot to say we are going to go at night to the parks and taking photos of buildings and people mainly lights video and pictures about 50/50

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome Doug! Appreciate you.
      Those are 2 good options. If you want to take pictures at night, grab a small tripod (like a Joby amzn.to/36ilU89). Here is my video about the 50mm: th-cam.com/video/8EEKkrOuj-w/w-d-xo.html. The 35mm f/2.8 amzn.to/2PzhmDA is a fast, lens with image stabilization (which is great to have). If you want something really fast, look at the 10-18. It's not a fast lens, but is super wide amzn.to/2qBdsBM (and you'll have a tripod).
      Hope this helps.

    I have owned a Canon S100 and Panasonic Lumix CS52. Both of these camera broke down so that they are now a door stop.
    The Canon S100 broke down under warranty and Canon repaired it. The S100 broke 2d time again, and Canon wanted to fix for half the cost of a new one.
    The Panasonic Lumix CS52 was bought with a "free" extended 2 year warranty to replace my S100. The CS52 broke down with 1 month left on the warranty. Panasonic's warranty contractor claimed that I misused the camera, but I didn't; but I did heavily use it. They wanted 2/3ds the price of new camera. Another boat anchor. So a word to the wise. BTW Panasonic contracts it warranty work in the USA, and if you read the reviews, they are only so, so at best.
    I bought the Sony RX100-7 in 2019, when it was introduced to replace my CS52, and so far, the RX100-7 has been utterly reliable. So when you need super-reliable camera, I would go with the Sony RX100-7, it is right there when you need it. Even though it costed $1,300, it was worth every penny to me. BTW if you guys get the Sony RX100-7, buy the little rubber grip for ~$20, that is attached/glued to the right side for better grip. Personally for such ultra-premium camera I am surprised it was not included, oh well. The Sony RX100-7 has never disappointed me.

    • @patz7792
      @patz7792 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it's that important for point and shoots as these cameras usually have smaller sensor and smaller aperture. For most of the time we're worrying about under-exposed instead of over-exposed. If you want a low-shutter and keep the shallow depth of field under bright sunlight, or want the realistic motion blur (1/50 s shutter) with a 24fps video under bright sunlight, you would need ND filters.
