I was working in London and Paris for 1 month. I could have taken any camera, 1DX, A7iii etc.......I only brought with me a Panasonic Lumix ZS100 point and shoot. The images I made with this little beast in my spare time was insane. It lived in my pocket when not in use and was super convenient. Whipped it out (the camera that is), turned it on and wham, got the shot. I am totally in support of large body cameras but for anyone looking to go away and want some great images without lugging around a bag of kit, look at these point and shoots like ZS100 and Sony RX100 series cameras. Thanks guys for showing its not always about the size of the camera. Cheers
@@savnac100% correct, my mom use canon PowerShot a2300 in 2014 and some handycam from 2000s(*i forgot the type), all my childhood is well documented, just watch the videos/photos then all memories in there will make my face smile❤, doesn't really care about blurry and noises 😂.
Well, dynamic range means how much info the camera can get from dark parts ( -x ev) and bright parts (+x ev). Photos in this video surely didn't have more than +/- 3 ev, so any camera could do that shots, don't try to see dynamic range everywhere even if there's non of it.
awesome pics from both cameras🔥 tho the pics from that RX100 VII is damn good enough for me. i'm gonna pick up a zoom P&S camera next year (tired of lugging around a DLSR+lenses in huge bag + grew out of the fixed lens P&S phase) and the RX100 lineup is in my short list. thanks for showing how good you could push the camera/images.
The rx100 series of cameras are great but they don't stand up to full frame, but for sheer portability and ability to go from 24-200 it's a great option.
The pictures of Pat are way more interesting. Please don’t get me wrong here. This F1.2 stuff just makes no sense. You don’t get the scene, it’s to concentrated on the subjects. It feels like you got lost in DOF instead of finding the interesting situations. Thats what you see and feel in Pats pictures. They tell me a story, or let me construct a story behind his pictures. It’s a nice comparison, thx for sharing.
Beautiful images from both of you! I’ve been heavily considering that little Sony for quick day trips when lugging heavy gear is too much. Curious if either of you have made any prints from that camera? Keep up the great work. Cheers!
The quality of the Canon was clearly better, but I think because of the constraints Pat took better quality images on the Sony. His photos seemed better composed and considered probably because the Sony was going to struggle technically. Whereas it seems like the Canon was just pointed at whatever and let the 1.2 bokeh and preset do all the work.
Going to be buying the a7s3 - was going to keep the fuji x100v just for photography but wonder if the a7s3 is good enough for photo and stealthy/small .. thoughts?
That fog is amazing. And that R5/50mm combo is just beautiful. I am taking a trip soon and taking along my R5 (haven't decided which lens to take long) and a Ricoh GRIIIx. SHould make for some interesting comparisons.
I prefer the feeling of holding the FF camera, which is heavy and has a large glass. Just looking at the lens gives me the conviction that I am holding a war machine, as opposed to the feeling of holding a toy.
Hmm. I thought the images from the compact would be more emotive . Taken at the spur of the moment. Capturing expressions and short events. That’s where its strength lies. It can always be with you with nice zoom and supreme autofocus.
I have used many mirrorless camera systems, and don't drool over image quality and sensor size! Perfect the art of photography with a camera that you can comfortably carry around in a pocket! Leave the bigger cameras to the professionals who make a living out of it. For a day to day use, travel, edc with pro features, a compact camera like Sony RX100 wins hands down 😊
I don't know if it was a comparative video, but there's no way to compare it...the places in each photo are different and so is the treatment of the images. except that one lens was 1.2 and the other was not
When I went to full frame camera there is no way back to point and shoot or IPhone. I bought this Sony tried it for a day and returned it the next day. Sorry but the quality is blurry not that’s good.
R5 + 3 primes is 10x the cost, and weight. It is maybe 5x the final image quality. I think I would use the R5 and a couple of the cheap primes like the 16mm and 50mm to ditch the camera pack.
Haha thanks for the feedback dude! I’ve used much more upbeat songs in a few other street POV videos and had a few complaints about that too. Can’t please them all 😅
Thanks so much! We definitely got lucky, shame we had to take off so quickly though! The fog was still so thick many hours later on our way to the airport!
@@TKNORTH for sure. But I guess when you're doing a full frame monster camera versus a 1 inch sensor camera, it'd be nice to give the little guy as much of a fighting chance as possible. Guessing if you gave them similar edits, then they'd be less obvious to tell the two apart is all I'm getting at
I would prefer doing the same shots side by side for comparison... Also straight out of camera (with best setting) and then after postprocessing... My guess is that in many shots people would not be able to tell which camera made which picture without pixelpeeping.
Agree to disagree, with the rise of digital age and social media shooting in portrait doesn’t make you less of a pro. Not to mention often times commercial pro photographers shoot in portrait due to clients needs. In this case, it’s about what story the photographer is trying to tell. Again agree to disagree.
My Samsung NX Mini is a much better camera and has a much better battery life and while it only records in 1080p 30fps is takes better video and better photos. That’s why I bought 2 of them. The Samsung is much smaller and much more affordable as well. You can get one with a lens and battery for about $200 while a Sony RX100 is still selling for about $600 to 1200 for RX100 V or newer. Last but definitely not least is that the Samsung NX Mini never overheats ever.
Mmmm... compact worse than phone... F4.5 lens. For insane money. Except zoom there is no justification to existence of such product. No thanks. Fog on compact looks like dirty lens. Maybe this is just edits on post.

This is the comment I've been looking for to confirm my thoughts about this camera, it is just insane
full frame: drool about the quality
point and shoot: admire the storytelling

Shallow DOF sucks for street photos. This is a perfect demo of how composition is key, Pats photos have so much more intrigue. Great video guys.
Pat Kay is an artist, love his work. Great for you two to do a video together. Enjoyed this 👌🏼
He’s one of the best! And thanks so much man glad you enjoyed it :)
The dynamic range and the clarity of the full frame is just uncomparable!
Thanks for watching 🙂 Definitely hard to beat
not entirely correct.
@@walkingmanvideo9455 any contender u want to suggest?
its mainly because the full frame has presets on it while the rx100 vii is raw

Although never actually using one I can totally agree there! The results for that portability and ability are still quite impressive 🙂
@@TKNORTH iv got the 5th version with the 24-70 equivalent and it does give some fantastic images, definitely worth having for a walk around camera.
They don’t have to stand up to full frame, but the are comparable to mFT. The question is what you really need.
I love your videos man, I watch your videos in class and write what I learn down in a journal. I've massively improved since then

Pat Kay is just natural when comes to composition, i hope i can be as good as you!
He goes alright doesn’t he 😛 perhaps some natural but I also know it’s lots of hard work and practice that’s got him to that level too!
I enjoyed this video so much.
The images were absolutely beautiful.
Portability is a determining factor
Patkay is an absolute gem of a tutor❤
It seems like the RX100m7's pictures are more bluish... is it done by color grading or it's directly out of the camera? NIce works both !
Really enjoyed the moody shots around Venice. Nice vlog guys!

I have to buy my first camera and I am confused between rx100m7 and sony a6400, can you help?
What camera are u using hanging on ur neck while you taking street photo?

Did you edit the images afterwards?

Sony RX100 vii VS Samsung S23..?
I'm about to shoot the RX100v and S21ultra on my trip this week.
Anyone know what shutter button Pat is using on the rx100?
I've been thinking to switch to a compact camera. I travel a lot, and I end up using my phone bc the weight and security, instead of my sony a7c 😢
are the photos displayed edited in some way?
So crazy seeing it foggy like that. Fun video!
