Wonderful looking shop. I heard you say you had radiant heating in the floors. Being up north, do you have another source as well?

Thanks! I would like to have a wood stove to supplement but that would negate my insurance coverage…they frown upon wood stoves in wood shops for some reason 😎 But I do have a small Rinnai propane heater to take the chill off while keeping the main radiant floor heat set in the low 50’s.
But if it were just my own personal small shop and not business related I would do the wood stove. Thanks for watching! 👍

Mike well I am upset with myself as I did not get to see you live. As I had a few questions. You mention about a build workbench on line class. Some things to think about as I would be interested, but it would be a great idea if we were able to discuss the wood type and sources for being able to get if. As I am sure you know where it might be easy for you to source wood in Main it quite hard for someone like me in TX. I will say I really enjoyed this video, you are very down to earth and while we all make mistakes you take it all in your stride and move on. It is great that you have some really nice gear to work with now as well. I would like to lean more about the combination machine Jointer/plane as I have heard a lot of mixed feelings on them. I realize you do not want to get into the specifics of brand, but just from your experiences and feelings on the tools. Thanks again for taking your time to make these and sharing your life with all of us.. Looking forward to next season as well.

Richard Garrow Thank you Richard. If you watch the video all the way through, I did get around to talking about the combination jointer planer, describing it and the fact it’s made by SCM an Italian company.
And yes, you are right when it comes to wood availability, it can vary quite a bit in different regions of the country. In this video I also referenced a book I read recently on the subject of work benches by Chris Schwartz. He’s of the opinion, and I have no reason to doubt he’s not right, that there’s a wide variety of materials that could make a good workbench top. So whenever we get around to that project, I’m sure you’re fine there will be good options close by to you.
Thank you for watching and for your kind comments as well. Without actually seeing faces and reactions to what I’m saying, it’s helpful to get good feedback and makes me want to keep it going even more.
      All the best, Tom

Epic Woodworking First let me sorry for calling you Mike. Tom I follow Chris very closely and own just about all his books. I here your opinion on the SCM jointer planner. A great product just a little out of my price range. Some other folks have similar products. I also wanted to say thanks for taking the time to reply to little old me, that means a lot. Have a great weekend Tom.
