  • This little job turned out to be quite easy, but it's such a common flaw on these I thought I would make a little video to show you how to check for clogs on your Dyson DC50, and unclog the cleaner head on your Dyson DC50!

      100% this! I threw 2 dc50's away last month, both needing a pcb and brushroll motor and refurbs. It's sad that it's not even that it's difficult to do, their no worse than equivalent aged dysons, it's the cost of parts. If you did it to keep you'd make the numbers work but I don't see a 50 as an upgrade to a 14 tbh

    Thanks for the video. I was running into lose of suction and couldn't figure it out when I disassembled the majority of the vacuum. The tip that really helped me was taking the filter out and turning it inside out. At a glace, I always thought it looked fine. After turning it inside out I could tell how clogged up it was. After cleaning off the filter it runs like new.

    Yet another delightful video. Is there anything you can't do? So, people don't want to buy bags, and they certainly don't want to or don't maintain a bagless cleaner, so ...sadly friends sent three Dysons to a landfill when they died and someone like you could have fixed them and found them new homes. Those friends have a Shark now and love it. I still miss my old DC07 crappy filth bugger though it was ...my Miele, perfection as it is, is So Heavy. The Dyson felt light and agile. I agree with the "Stupid Design" statement on the vacuum head. How could Mr. Dyson mess up such a simple part? I spent a good 20 minutes trying to clean those narrow areas and was wondering why they made such a bad design than you can't pry it open for easy cleaning.

    Still seem to be having an issue with ours. There's suction from the top of the ball when the dustbin is removed but as soon as that is re-attached there's no suction from the roller head or the hose. There's also a really harsh hissing sound as if something is blocking the airway but we've completely dismantled it and cleaned the filters and even after removing a full heads worth of hair there's still nothing.
    My suggestion to mum was to just chuck it out but perhaps you've got a better suggestion 😅

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's still clogged somewhere, that harsh hissing sound is the blockage relief valve opening. Made 100% sure the air ducts in the chassis are free and unclogged? The entrance to the cyclone where rhe dirt enters? It's tiny and easily clogged. Every air path route through the chassis, hose, wand and cyclone needs to be checked. Doesn't take much to clog them up, a small twig then some use will back everything up and do it

      I hate the dc50! I'd prefer a 24 and that's saying something as I'm not a huge fan of that, although thr 24's issue is dyson using cheap shit brushroll motors which are all coming to the end of their specified life. The dc50 doesn't have that excuse, it's just a pile of crap! The 1st gen brushroll that sheds it's carbon brushes for fun, flimsy awful wand design, terrible carriage assembly... I reckon dyson used the dc50 in their comparisons on the v10/11 (performs better than a full size vac) as it all makes sense when you compare it like that! Dc75, less so!

  • @a.a674

    I had simillar issues on my Dc40,The bellows in the self adjusting head were full of fluff,I think that could have been solved if they had a telescope like plastic inner wall that retracts/falls based on the bellow,so the bellow is like a spring.I also found the Changeover seal was missing on mine so superglued a dc04 skeleton to bin seal on it and boy,it glued itself to the floor

      Those sodding heads always fill themselves with fluff! Im always cleaning them out when I get them in. So I followed along with your video and was able to remove a ton of dust. I actually replaced our filters as well since they hadn't been replaced or cleaned for years (yes, years...). However we still have little suction and when we use it on non carpeted areas it just spits out what it sucked up. Any other recos where a clog may be hiding?

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is there a physical blockage anywhere else? Take the cyclone off and turn it on. Put the cyclone back on whilst it's running. Change of motor tone? Pop the filter side of the balls off, then recline and stand it up whilst looking at the changeover valve hose. Does it flip up and down as it should? Have you had the brushroll off and taken the base plate off and checked for clogs?

I've rebuilt my switch assembly twice, the first time because a spring got bent out of shape (last year), and the second time (just today) because I couldn't get the brush to turn on. I was surprised to find that the voltage across the two sides of the switch was only 30 V, not 120 V. I replaced both switches, but the problem is not solved. A squirt of wd or similar at the pivoting parts wouldn't hurt either, just not too much.
