    Mate, you've just saved me the cost of a new one. The blockage wasn't in the same place as yours, but just seeing what parts can be removed and cleared is a lifesaver.

    So far so good with this vacuum. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx8ISPQRRAfpAaX4msGjyodObTBnlj4T5g I was a little concerned to find it seems to be all plastic, but the reviews were good, so I'm hoping for the best. Very easy to assemble Recommened, and only attachments I've used so far work well, and are easy to use. Doing a good job on the new carpet in my bedrooms and stairs. Works well on the hardwood on my main floor too. Reasonable weight and cord length. I already knew from an earlier review that it wouldn't fit under furniture, but I can use my Eufy for that, so no problem - the high traffic areas that need a stronger suction was really what I bought this for. If it continues as it's started, it will be a good buy and well worth the money. I have had two Shark Rocket stick vacs in the past that are super easy to use, but the motors just don't last well, even with scrupulous cleaning of the filters. I'm hoping for better with this Bissell.

    all i can say is thank you SO MUCH. I was having the worst day and felt like a failure. Fixing the hoover has genuinely changed my mood. And it was satisfying pulling out the blockages... cheers!

    Thank you so much for this video Karl, you are amazing! I had a 1 year used DC 50 sitting around for the past 5 years (I'm a single mom of 3) because everything worked, but no suction and it was virtually brand new. It killed me to throw it out because I knew it had to be an easy fix. Years ago, I watched countless you tube videos, took it apart, cleaned it out and nothing. Today, I decided to try to resurrect it and immediately came across your video...my "secret filter compartment" overly was packed like yours with all kinds of things! Thank you, thank you, thank you. My Dyson is now running amazing and back to work!

    I hate this model.. I've had so many issues in the past thinking i fixed it only to have it break a few tries later. I completely dismantled it thanks to your video. Found a massive clog in the filter and the bottom hose. Was able to fix it and it operates like new. Thanks a bunch!

    I really hated putting this together when it was gifted to me and for the amount of cash these things cost they shouldn't clog up like this after a short amount of use. This was very helpful and I'm going to tackle mine now.

    • @DystrophicEvolution
      @DystrophicEvolution 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, yes! You're so right on point. There's little doubt that the Dyson cleans well, but the collection chamber/bin is a farce. I don't recommend these if you have a shedding pet unless you have the stomach and/or patience to field strip it and reassemble every odd month. I also recommend a decent supply of chopsticks kept on hand for fishing out the hair at the upper top of the collection chamber at each dumping.
      Also, the Dyson brush roller seems to not last as in loosing bristles quickly, more importantly the dual brush roller with the hardwood/lino soft bristles which disappear. The DC50 and others has the washable cone upper filter which is such a bugger to clean, but I figured out the best and perhaps only method is to pop off the top portion clip to roll the filter in backwards to expose the inside which holds a lot of crud! A lot of rinsing and using a plastic dental pick to pick out the crud collection at the bottom. This is a piss-poor design in my opinion. My last gripe is that the Dyson is super loud. Oh, I'm sure everyone hates the wand hose too... when you finish fighting to stretch it out longer before toppling over the vac, the less suction you shall receive. haha
      I still have my DC51 Pet (these are not for shedding pets!), but rightfully retired it for a Hoover (Air Steerable) - which is a lovely beast of a machine and the filters are so simple to rinse! I'd leave the DC51 by the side of the road, but it's worth too much to simply giveaway and why not get a few bucks back on a bad investment anyways? It's a designer vacuum in essence, as in shoddy workmanship and the like, but you pay dearly for the name printed on it. ;-P

    Great. Had already taken it all apart, no blockages but your video made me think of the seals. The one that switches between vac and tube was a little out of place, pushed back into place and all other seals checked and it is working fine again. Cheers!

    Karl, thanks for your video, I had a DC41 with the same issue, your disassembly instructions help me remove one side of the ball cover and filter, and allowed me to spot the cause of my Vac's issue; a pen stuck in the L bend of the upright hose near the ball which prevented the rubber seals engaging properly when the vac was put into floor mode. Removed the pen and the Vac is working normally with full suction. Cheers.

    THIS WORKED! I was able to get my Dyson to work. For me, I used baking soda when cleaning. It was clogged under the color piece in the main collector area/jug. There is a tab near the red part on the juggy thing where you can open it up and clean out. In this video it's at 7:36. I found a cotton ball cleaned the gray filtery area as I had both dander and baking soda fully clogged there. Baking soda is a no-no and now I will listen to that!

    Ladies and Gentlemen
    Thanks to this video my dyson works great now!
    My Dyson was working but only the hose part. I cleaned all the filters, brush
    and so on. My Dyson still was only sucking through the hose part.
    So I knew it had to be a problem between the brush part and sucking.
    At the back where the hose hooks to the ball part, little red thing holding the hose on, i slid that out and low and behold that's where the clog was.
    It was a water bottle cap! Yes something so stupid, but simple to fix.
    I finally got it out, and got all the clog it was holding behind it, and it works great now!

    Thanks. I didn't know about this filter part either. I'd cleaned the other filters several times, but not that one. After watching this video, I opened it up and it had a solid layer of dust so thick that I couldn't see the mesh underneath! I cleared it out and it now seems twice as powerful, especially the hand held/hose part. (and it fixed my issue with a change in tone/loss of suction)

    When I was a child my father always told me I was mechanically inclined. This dyson was the test! It had stopped sucking completely and I could see all the hair wound around the roller, but had no clue about the dust (I live in mid-town Manhattan) stuffed inside the head -- even though I'd cleaned it thoroughly (or so I thought) after someone gave it to me as a hand-me-down. Should work beautifully now. Fingers crossed!

    • @chrisbodum3621
      @chrisbodum3621 ปีที่แล้ว

      C'mon Claire, did it work ?
      I find it bizarre that anyone would try to rectify a problem and then not bother to see if it is actually fixed before making a comment about it on TH-cam.
      Or is that a mid-town Manhattan thing ? The medium is stronger than the message, perhaps.

    I watched the first 3 min. of the video and was able to correct my issue. I found my blockage in a place I didn't know to check, but your video helped me to spot it. Thank you so much!!! Is there a place where we can donate to you/your channel??? You saved me the money of hiring a repairman.

    Excellent and instructive, and saved me buying a new vacuum cleaner! Key point was showing me how to disassemble each part seeking the problem. In the end I had to also remove - only a simple screw - a transparent tube that connects at the front where I found a 'lump' of hair, dust, assorted debris blocking the suction. And, the best bit, I was able to reassemble the DC50 first time. Now working a dream :-)
