Thanks so much for this video, I was about to replace the Dyson as it is years of age and was not picking anything up either in the hose or the floor, the problem for me was behind the mesh, I never knew about this!. Dyson now is as good as new - thanks so much! Enjoy the gift, you have earned it!

Few things as someone who owns one. I HAD been cleaning it like you just did for a long time. Then I discovered (because I had to replace the brush head entirely) you should be removing a lot more than you just did. The brush motor needs to be disassembled and re-greased at the gears. Spray contact cleaner on the brush motor to clean out the fine and remove the carbon. The boot over the large 30mm bearing on the brush assembly should be removed and lightly oiled. There is also a 16mm bearing at the opposite end of the brush motor just before the roll pin (Lightly oil). Dont worry about the bearing at the end of the plastic brush tube as the bristles usually wear out before you need to worry about it (also it's a pain to access). Dont overdue the oil as it will spin off inside the tube and promotes dust adhesion. The cyclone itself absolutely has to be disassembled. Trust me when I say that an air compressor and thorough soaking/faucet sprayer doesn't work like it appears to. The dirt ends up setting at the bottom of the first or second row of cyclone cylinders and continues to build up and cause problems. You absolutely need a solid torx screwdriver set to disassemble it as the clearance inside will not take most muti bit screwdrivers. To separate the screen, use a set of plastic vehicle interior tools. The plastic that makes up the outer screen is super soft and the body tools will help mitigate dents and scratches. The 4 gaskets in the cyclone assembly are extremely fragile -- be careful. The filters should be washed monthly (as instructed) and replaced every other year (in my experience). The little hose at the bottom from brush to motor always ends up plugged; check the brush head, then the little hose for blockages. 98% of the time that's the problem. The rest of what you did looked good.

Thank you! This was amazingly helpful. I have the same model passed onto me by a friend and the red clip that holds the hose in place had snapped off, but I didn't know what ought to be there and it's not an area shown very much so it took me ages to realise something was wrong and then that something was probably missing - I was watching parts of your video in the early part on .25 to get a good look at that end that attaches to the bottom - then at the end of the video you had a nice few seconds fiddling about to get it to click onto the machine and for the first time I realised what was missing and got out a magnifying glass and had a look and there it was -the damage where the plastic has snapped off. Now I see what's what! A replacement is needed. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise it was very much appreciated. Also I'm so surprised at how much of the machine can be washed - I had no idea the flower bit up the top and the hose and almost everything could go into the sink to get a scrub - that's going to be satisfying to do 😊

Just got one of these on the side of the road for free taking. Was just clogged up and runs well. Another Dyson vac for the collection Just needed to be taken apart and cleaned like this. Of all the expensive vacs I've found were Dyson's and 3 Kirby's. Still trying to find a Miele Vac on the side of the road, but those type of people would never let their neighbors see a broken vac on the end of their driveway lol.

You can get the mesh right off. It's quite tightly sleeved over the bottom part of the cyclone assembly at the bottom. Use a broader tool that a screwdriver. I used my knife but a filler knife or scraper would do. Work all the way round and keep pushing down and it will come off.
Also a large amount of fine dust collects in the mini cyclones at the top. Tap all the way round firmly then knock the bottom against a hard surface and you should get some coming out.

    • @HooverLux

Great video, After reading the comments here and on other channels, i've come to the conclusion that Dyson upright ball vacuum cleaners are only good for five years, mine is Six weeks out of warrenty and the motor burned out!!!!! I spent a couple of hours yesterday carefully disassembling the ball/ motor assembly and found that all the hoses have multiple cracks!!!! So cost to repair $150.00- $200.00, Dyson Ball worked fantastic but certainly NOT worth the money!!!!

Hi, The ones on the rug plate can be washed by removing the rug plate and washing it and using something to brush them in soapy water. you can also pick them out with a toothpick or the like and some spray cleaner. dry them after cleaning and a tiny tiny drop of oil should keep them going. you can also buy the little wheels to repack any broken.

That’s a very controversial question 🤣🤣🤣. In my personal opinion, no, but some do better than others. My upright DC75 is really good, but the cylinder no, unless I use a turbo brush. I wish dyson brushrolls had some form of beating action, then I’m sure they would do a better job. They rely on suction more than beating.

HooverLux Restorations & More DC55. It’s hard to tell exactly what the issue is to be honest, likely an internal part is broken. Will try looking at it again tomorrow. Thanks

Hey Jimmy, I’ve taken a look at mine and there are a few clips and spring that may have broken, it’s a simple fix but unfortunately I’ve no idea how to fix it, but I have seen other videos on how to.

Mine won’t even turn on for some reason. I’m in an Airbnb and it’s the vacuum cleaner here.

That’s such a shame, I’ve not really used mine much tbh, but I recently cleaned up a mates and the brushroll was almost bare, the carbon fibre bristles had all but worn away. That’s terrible. I’m surprised Dyson just didn’t give you a whole new one.

Caitlyn Bukaty 🤣 Every Home should come with a Numatic Henry or Hetty. I’m that case you’d have to use a small brush like from a dustpan and brush 😢

@@HooverLux Thanks! This video was perfect. I came to see how I could clean the cyclone portion but I stayed for the whole segment and learned so much. I love my DC50, my favorite part is that I can completely take it all apart myself!

You're not showing us how to disassemble the parts. You're going too fast. Show us what buttons to press to disassemble the filter holders. Thanks

I can’t find your video on how to remove the brush roller from the head. Mine is stuck on. Cleaned out the one side but can’t get it to come out. You mentioned that you have a video on that but I can’t find it.
