make sure that the silicone you use is acid-free or else it will erode any metal over time. Do not use standard bathroom caulk sealant as that contains acid.

You can purchase a new 3rd brake light assembly (part no. 68298380AH LAMP-CENT) for $37.65 from the dealership, at service and parts. Dodge will install it at a labor charge of $30.00. I think the leak problem occurs because if you park your truck outside, the sun damages the gasket seal. So it will need to be replaced every 3-4 years.

Any rubber gasket will "dry out" over time, losing its ability to expand. I took the third lamp off, cleaned off the gasket, tapping the dirt loose, letting it fall out... then saturated the gasket with just enough silicone, leaving the lamp off while it absorbed. Then reinstalled the lamp. For good measure sprayed a small amount along the top edge using the straw. Two rainstorms later, still no leaking.

The roof leak plus the rear vent leak are just two of the many problems I have really been disappointed in my 2013 1500 Ram truck and these problems didn't just start up because my truck became 10 years old, the six trips back and forth to the dealership to get the AC fixed should have been my first clue when the pickup was still new.

Don’t forget to protect your sliding window regulator and the RF Hub. Both are on that wall behind the seat. I just had my RF hub replaced but the RAM dealer did t address the leaking window. Pretty poor service to charge nearly $800 but not fix the problem. Window leaks and shorts out the RF Hub. Needs to be a recall. 2019 Rebel with sliding rear window.

Mine is a 2 door 2016; the sheet metal under my high mount light is stamped differently than yours.
Instead of a straight metal line between the window and the light there are a couple gaps at the bottom of the light and water was getting in right there, all it took was my better half holding the hose while I sat inside the cab.I ended up switching to LED bulbs for long life then using a clear flexible sealer (DAP Ultra Clear) as a gasket for the light assembly and plugging the gap between the light and window frame.
It's been bone dry now for 3 years. Good vid, thanks!

We have a 2014 ram Laramie limited mega cab or headliners wet in the back passenger corner just like yours. Also our floor gets wet right next to the door seal on the carpet no no toolbox spot because it’s the mega cab with the flat floor also, it leaks from the front door handle which could’ve been due to the sunroof drains being plugged on our 2006 mega cab, it only leaks from the front door handles and even though we cleaned out the front drains it is still leaking. We have not gotten to the rear drains which I understand come out on the rear of the cab in a tight spot, we will check the brake light and that spot where the trim at the same comes together at the window. With so many rams leaking, there should be a class action lawsuit and a recall.

Thank you so much.

Its bad enough sunroofs leak, but 3rd brake lights, rear vents, body seams and rear windows have all been known to leak on these Rams. Not only that but if you have a rear cap you have to move it back to remove your 3rd brake light. Good grief for what these trucks cost this is inferior stock materials and parts. We had the issue of water under the rear seat and coming out of grab handles. When we ordered the gasket for the third brake light it came with two. We found out why. After we installed the gasket, we checked our seal by turning on the brake and cargo light to see if light was noticeable between the seal and the cab which it was. It appears the light assembly has a bow in the middle and does not set flush. The screws on each end of the lens are not sufficient, as it needs a couple in the middle of the assembly too. So we doubled up on the gasket and it sealed the light assembly to the cab. We also put a bead of silicon around the perimeter for good measure. Problem solved .

  • @georgecolbert3247

Good video, but I have to add that the brake light will not stay sealed with just the gasket. They make the third brake light out of plastic (all brands). In the old days they had a pot metal frame for strength. What happens is that you tighten the screws which bows the light and then it will leak sooner or later. Fix it by glueing it with RTV. I know, I had to learn the hard way several times.

The seals are one piece until they reach the back of the cab, then there is a shorter piece that curves down the back of the cab, which is the part that seems loose where I can lift the tail end up almost a quarter inch. Seems like the OEM gasket is a bit of a cheapy thing, that open cell foam stuff. Could you make a DIY silicone gasket by putting wax paper or something in the slot for the gasket on both truck side and light side, place silicone, allow to cure, then take it apart & remove wax paper? That way the seal would last and still be able to take apart for maintenance.

Does that cause the third brake light to keep dying?

Not usually but it could. My light has always worked even though there was a lot of water coming in. You may have a short somewhere else.

I had the brake light leak, the vents, now im sitting out here in the driveway, trying to figure out where this new leak is coming from.
Rear window, driver side, water in the groove the rear window slides around in. Only in the corner, overflows goes to the floor.
    Ugh.

We just went through this same issue but on our Ford escape where a channel was blocked. We had even replaced the windshield thinking it was the seal!! Question: have you found a way to clean your headliner from the water damage?? Ours looks terrible 😢

The headliner is hard to clean because the glues are sensitive. The headliner can end up sagging I would take it somewhere and have them clean it. The best detailer in your area will be the best bet
