@@jasonkolody5429 I did the repair and it works no more water. You will need a 18mm socket. Make sure you have a strong socket wrench. I had to buy a new one because the bolts that hold down the seats were so hard to break loose. Also be careful when you remove the seats and reinstall, the back of the seats have a plastic piece on the metal hooks to keep the upper seat from falling forward. The plastic peice prevents rubbing metal on metal. The vents are a pain in the butt to get through the opening, I started out trying to carefully put them in but eventually I had to just jam in and it worked. I wish he showed how they get a little banged up. I can see why the dealer told some people the bed needs to be removed. But like I said it worked. Hope this helps.
If you have water like you had the pad under the carpet acts like a wick and will pull water all the way under the front seats. Pull the carpet and dry it out. I had the exact same issue and it was wet all the way to the front.
Thank goodness! Our 2003 Dodge 2500 has had repeated leaking problems. I've replaced the gasket and resealed the 3rd brake light, believing that was the issue, only to have water continue to collect. We just added a 2015 Ram 2500 to the fleet and after 2 3/4" inches of rain the other day, I found the floor under the rear seat was standing with water as well. Mystery solved! Thank you.
Worked! Thank you! After taking it to dealership, they did leak test & said it was leaking from 3rd brake light & back window. They wanted 200 for gasket replacement & couldn’t fix back glass. We took truck home, watched your video and ordered new vents! I replaced vents and they don’t leak!
Found this out on mine through forums. Did this few years ago but stayed with original vents , cleaned everything around and added silicone and never had water again 👍
Great job, thanks! I have another possible fix, because water is indeed devious. I have a 2016 2 door 1500 and the water pooling behind the seat was driving me crazy. I couldn't find the source, so I shimmed my OEM plastic vents right under the plastic finger supports with slim slivers of wood making the seal tighter... but that didn't do it. Ultimately, using my wife as the hose holder, we found that the cab design was bad. Right under the top mounted stop and cargo light (between the light and the top of the rear window) I found 2 small cutouts in the metal of the cab's window opening. Not real big, and not noticeable unless you were standing in the bed of the truck. THAT is where my water was getting in. I have no idea why those cutouts were there, the sliding glass window does not seem to need that. So I bought a 5 oz tube of DAP Ultra Clear sealant at Home Depot and filled the space between the rear window and the top mount light. It's been two years now and no more water.
I was wondering why I had water behind the rear seats of my truck every time it rains or I washed it , I thought it was the 3 brake light you saved me a lot of time and trouble. Thank you much appreciate
Did mine last weekend, this video was super helpful. It was definitely leaking from these original vents....to my shock none of the "flappers" were actually present on either!
Thank you so much. Never would have known why under the back seat was always damp. I ended up taking out my carpet and drying everything out. New vents are on order. :)
This was excellent! I had to pull the left rear seat to straighten a twisted seat belt. Your video prompted me to check the "Exhauster-Body Side Aperture". I have not experienced the water leakage but it was flopping around in the hole, so I got lucky there. On the other hand, I had not been able to figure out why it was always so dusty in the cab when driving on gravel. BINGO! All the rubber flaps were gone. These flappers are supposed to act like a check valve and only let air flow one way - out. Without them, the dusty air is allowed to come in. Now I also know how to replace them. The parts were in stock and only cost $10 each.

Thank you very much for the video. I have a 2021 Ram 1500 with less than 11,000 miles and has the water leak issue that people are complaining about. I took my truck to a Ram Dealership a couple months ago and the dealer I took it to replaced the center brake light assembly. But I guess they did not do any testing after the repair because I still have water leaking in the cab every time it rains. So I took it back to them and now they are claiming that the rear window frame is cracked and they have to replaced but it won't be under warranty. My truck is less than 3 years old and has less than 11,000 miles because I don't drive it very much.
I’ve found that the 2 inside drain holes in the back window also cause water leaks under the seat if you don’t blow them out frequently. They are easy to locate from outside the back window and are about 4 inches from the outside of the body. I’ve removed the cable track inside the back window and used an air compressor to spray down those holes and it blows out small pine needles. It has worked for me. I do it at least twice a year. Hope that helps.
I see people complaining about getting the vents out. You did it one handed while filming with the other hand! 😂😂😂 Then people say you have to fish it up from below and have a person inside to grab it. Thank you for showing the the best and fastest way to do this!
Great video, i was able to push new vent up between bed and cab-my neighbor grabbed it and pulled it in-was very easy that way- for those who may have trouble pushing it thru
This must be a common problem. I figured out earlier today that it’s probably the vents. Thanks for the video! Will help me when I can get around to doing it.
This video just saved me from ordering a CHIML gasket. I tool out the seat and water tested. The drivers vent was leaking but I was surprised to find d on the passenger side. The vent was not leaking, but a hole adjacent to it was. Instead of ordering g new vents, I cleaned and sealed them with acoustic sealant for vapor barriers. Follow-up water test is good. Thanks!
Just picked up a 2008 Ram and will watch for this. It's not just standing water but when you drive the vortex of water and air swirling in that open area between the box and cab could force water in there as well. Subbed already.
I have a 2008, that had some water in my passenger side cubby this morning. I just replaced the 3rd brake light, so I don't think that's it. I was thinking weather stripping, but now I"m thinking it may be this.
Thanks for sharing this! Decided to clean out underneath the rear seats and discovered wet carpet. Recently had heavy rains here in texas. I'll have to eventually make time to remove rear seat and do this fix. 2009 ram 1500, with 205k miles lol gotta keep her running.
This was a very good video. So good I went out and pulled the back seat and what do you known. The vents had already been replaced. I noticed some water at a seam on the passenger side and water behind the glass. I going to hose it down tomorrow. Wish me luck😢
Awesome job man! Ive been dealing with this shit for years . Did all the same things to no avail. Went to dealer and guy said yah our comes every thurs we can do a water hose test ! I was looking at him like you know right now exactly what is causing this and are just gonna take me for a easy $600 bucks . I said ok amf drove off . Wont go back to that dealer because of that to this day . Kinda pissed me off . I knew he sees this at least 2 times a month . I will Start this today . Yah i hate the smell
I used a string and pulled them up between the bed and cab then pulled them in to the hole. Also I pulled the carpet and sound mat it, cleaned and complete dry before installing. 2018 Ram 1500
Thank you for this. For the longest time I thought I was constantly leaving my windows cracked. Ordering them right now. Being that I'm extra, gonna caulk the perimeter from the inside.
Exactly the problem. I have, just got done taking seat out and panel off and sure enough a small trickle of water is coming down from that same exhaust vent. Ordering it from Mopar now. I'll probably also put a bead of silicone around the perimeter as well. Thank you so much!
I had this issue on my 2020 1500. I didn't need to remove the seat. Pull the string on the backside of the seats and fold them down. Pull the plastic "christmas tree" retainers from the back panel. Pull the panel away enough to access these vents. I was prepared to pull my seats and do exactly like this video. But was lucky enough to not have to. Had both old ones out and replaced in literally ten minutes. Start to finish time was total 20 minutes. Couldn't believe how easy it was.
Thank you very much for this video I also found that my antenna on top of the roof was leaking fixed that got that to stop leaking realized just this morning with the heavy rains last night that I still got water and I see less water than before but still Sum watched your video and I do believe that is the culprit I appreciate you thank you for your time.
Very good video and explanation of the repair!! You made it clear on how to repair. Thank you!! I will try to watch for this leak in my RAM. I dont know why you call it a Dodge lol. That name was dropped in 2010. Take care.
Great video thanks for sharing, I’ll be doing mine Monday or Tuesday all the flappers are blown out and gone, I pulled carpet and everything out down to the body metal on Tuesday this way I can get all the moisture out then do the repair and make sure no water intrusion for a day or two then put it all back together.. same time if slow got to do the rear sliding power window actuator as the cable got all bound up
Nice video, I was cleaning my truck a week ago and had some reusable shopping bags under the rear seat and found a couple puddles of water on them but nothing else wet but have been noticing for some time a musty smell in the truck thought it may have been a dead mouse or rotted food under the seat where I can't see it I bet this is what it is
Little trick to get the vents back in that makes it a little easier. Tie a piece of string to it, and pull the string up from the bottom of the truck between the cab and bed until it aligns, then pull it in from the inside of the truck.
I've had water in the back seat since day one of my 2014 ram. The dealer said it was the 3rd tail light. Now I know... will do the seat mod at the same time when I replace the vents.
Dealers only know what the little screen tells them these days. My bother has a 2024 renegade and they dealer has tried 4 times to fix it. All his lights on the dash come on, the seat belt chimer stays on the whole time hes driving, and its been in the shop 3 times. I keep telling them its related to some kinda pressure sensor in the seat. sometimes when its running, and not acting up, he gets out, and boom... Christmas tree of trouble lights. Now... theres a recall after almost a year for the seat belt wiring harness that runs under the driver seat... jesus save us from stellantis.
Thank you what a crap design. Past 2 years could not figure it out I’ve had a weird ass cough my whole rear is filled with mold. RAM needs to make this a Recall.
Man that would be one expensive recall lol. Like every ram 1500 ever made. Stallantis is already in trouble with recent jeep and ram sales. I wish Ford would have bought jeep. At least they had a hand in making the original 1942 jeeps.
After removing the old ones, it would be a good idea to wipe any debris, grit, dirt , etc from around the outside of the opening in the cab. The insurance company is not going to like any seat hook or washer addition mods.
I've had quite a few rams and they have all leaked. 3rd gen, 4th gen, 1500 and 2500, and now a 5th gen 2021 ram with a diesel that has been leaking front drivers side grab handle next to the steering wheel. Love my rams but these water issues are a real pain. The 3rd brake light is always the first place to start. Seal that one up the day you buy it because its only a matter of time before it leaks.
We have a 3500 mega cab 2014 and a 2006 mega cab 1500 both with sunroof. They both leak from passenger side door handle we hang a bucket from there and can fill a 1 gallon bucket in a 1 inch rain truck is pointing slightly uphill in driveway, the water gets the headliner wet in the rear corner passenger side mainly but only on the 2014 ram. Just sealed up the third brake light and it still leaks so we keep a towel in the back corner and change that out constantly. Also, the floor next to the backseat at the door is a bit moist so we change a towel there constantly alsowe have checked sunroof drains in both trucks but still no change. We also have a 2006 3500 quad cab with no sunroof so far that truck does not appear to be leaking anywhere.
Mr. amigo. That would explain our water down on the carpet next to the door, but we have wet headliner in the back corners, and I see water dripping from the top of the window frame. I actually posted a video of that on my channel one person, said there is a crack in the window frame, or a cut out in the body near the third brake light, I have sealed the third brake light with silicone so I am going to inspect again right around the frame. This is very frustrating but winter is almost over and I have now learned to open this truck up a couple of days after a rainstorm, and let it air out, we actually had mold growing on the leather quite a shame for a $60,000 Laramie
Hi great video! I just bought a '23 ram 1500 and I wonder if I have the new style vents already. You think I should buy a few of these vents to have on hand? Thanks!
I had been having an issue with water coming in from the top . I had sealed the 3rd brake light previously and figured it couldn't be that . Took it to get the rear window replaced as the electric slider had stopped working . First thing the tech said was that it was probably the 3rd brake light and that replacing the window probably wouldn't stop the leak . But they found that the electronic connections for the window were corroded , probably from the water leak , so they went ahead and replaced . I have a gasket ordered , so hopefully that will take care of my water leak . But will keep an eye out for additional leaks from this area . .
Replace the 3rd brake light all together it’ll have a brand new updated gasket, use some RTV on the gasket to help seal it, the screws alone don’t put enough pressure to keep it water tight.. I did this on mine never had any more leaks until these damn vents started failing
I just discovered a bunch of mildewed mail and a usps box under my seat I was like there is no reason this should be like this I will investigate this now thanks
Thank you Mr. Ram overland sir. Have you fixed all these leaks yet we have two ram trucks which leak. We would like to get a 84 inch ram 5500 with a huge custom toolbox bed for our construction work and our fishing expedition business get out of the rental property, business, and Oakland, and do repairs where the monies at Electrical and plumbing seems to be the money jobs. Easy in and out what are the better trucks should we get the 5500 ram or look at the Fords we really like the Cummins so far also we really like the Limited black leather interior is awesome. What about the 12 inch computer screen we think that is pretty cool also.
Really good video. I would only add do not be gentle with the new part when first sticking it through the hole. Don't worry about damaging it just Ram it through there.
I know I have been a bit busy to answer back to eveyone. I just got my gun store closed in Kentucky and headed to NC to visit my father for a bit. I will be starting to upload videos more frequently in the next few weeks. 1st stop will be the Outer Banks!
dealing with this mess on my gmc, crazy to see this is an issue for most trucks.. its 2024 youd figure this invention would be updated some how to keep water out but allowing pressure
Info for anybody searching….I had the vent leak in my 2011. After replacing them and doing a water test, I discovered I also had a leak coming from the rear window seal.
@RamOverland has this fixed the problem? I’m also in KY and the rain recently has lead to musty smells and pooled water under my seats. 2017 ram. Good video
What is the correct ( or technical) name for these vents ? I own a 2021 Ram crew cab and I like the idea of ordering them in case my truck suffers the same problem.
I just went and checked how my truck looked , there is a almost horizontal rubber ledge that extends from the truck bed to the back of the cab that covers this vent , so water does not fall down directly on the vent . My truck is a 2011 2500 , is this just something on the 2500's ?
I'm confused. I have a leaky 5th gen fro 2019. The part you reference says 2002-2021. That could imply that a third type was used after 2021. It also doesn't say if this part works on both the classic and 4th gen models. There is an extended warranty on the cheap ($27) HMSL, which the dealer replaced, ignoring my plea to check the window seal. They didn't mention these exhaust vents. What a mess. If this was their first attempt at building a vehicle this could be excused, but they've been at this for decades.
I feel your pain. They wanted mega money to water test my rear window. They have had so many chances to fix these water issues. I have since sold the ram and went back to a wrangler. At least if it leaks, I know its the top lol.
All done when I added my push button start. Very reasonable price also (I think about $8 each thru Mopar parts). Hardest thing was getting back seat out. Thanks. @@LivingFreeInAWrangler
I had the same problem a few months back with my Ram and I did everything that I considered the cheapest options replacing all the rear gaskets like the top brake light but I sent it in to my own mechanic and a Ram dealer and it turns out the rear window gasket was gone years back and it turned out to be extremely expensive
Wow. kinds reminds me of the PCM/ECM issues on the 2005-2006 TJ wranglers. The paths in them were soldered in mexico and they didnt use any flux in the solder. So after a few years the solder would crack or corrode and the transmission (first year for trans computer in pcm) would downshift to 3rd at highway speed and strangle you with the seat belt. People spent thousands on new transmission because the pcm was telling the scan tolls that the trans was running at 1600 degrees. I had one. I took it to a trans shop and they told me that it was toast because it was at 1600 degrees. I said theres no Fin way. Its aluminum the melting point is a little over 1200. the transmission would be a pool on the pavement lol. The new ones that the dealer had were also new, old stock so soldered at the same place. If you could find one at the dealer it would fail again and again. Finally I found a shop online that would resolder all the paths, then reprogram it for 1500$ ugh!
I did everything as well and discovered I also had the window leak. 125$ to replace the seal. Keep moving if the shop wants to charge you for a new window.
@@stephaniedaley7134 wish I could say the same price, I had to buy a whole new window with an electric sliding window mainly because I went to a Ram dealer, but after I did that a little under a year ago I haven’t a problem since I had multiple people look at it and all say different things but the dealership let me be there while they did the water test and showed it was the window best of luck
Thought I was the only one bro smh. I work offshore and had my truck parked at the Dock for a month and came back and it had a musty smell almost like dog piss and it was driving me crazy because I’ve had the truck for 9 years and it’s still immaculately kept and clean. Came back to head home and my Harley hoodie behind the seat was soaked and I was lost as hell lol. New vents did the trick.
@@2ndBattLT I actually found out their were 2 cracks on either side of the back windows and water was getting in and mold all over. The dealer removed the rugs and put some machine to kill the smell Now it’s finally all gone🤙🏽
Is yours a 5th gen Ram? I'm dealing with this problem right now in my 2021. The stealership siad they "fixed" it. 2 wks later i find its still leaking. They said it was the 3rd brake light gasket. I call BS.

This was a very good video. So good I went out and pulled the back seat and what do you known. The vents had already been replaced. I noticed some water at a seam on the passenger side and water behind the glass. I going to hose it down tomorrow. Wish me luck😢
Good deal I am proceeding with the project … after I tried all the what ifs to fix … great video thank you for sharing
Glad it helped
Awesome job man! Ive been dealing with this shit for years . Did all the same things to no avail. Went to dealer and guy said yah our comes every thurs we can do a water hose test ! I was looking at him like you know right now exactly what is causing this and are just gonna take me for a easy $600 bucks . I said ok amf drove off . Wont go back to that dealer because of that to this day . Kinda pissed me off . I knew he sees this at least 2 times a month . I will
Start this today . Yah i hate the smell
RAM Cab Vents! 🤟
I’ve gotta 2017 Ram .. I’m surprised it hasn’t done that yet… thanks for saving me a lot of time and trouble if it happens… awesome thanks buddy…
I used a string and pulled them up between the bed and cab then pulled them in to the hole. Also I pulled the carpet and sound mat it, cleaned and complete dry before installing. 2018 Ram 1500
Just installed new vents on mine. I did not want to damage the new part by shoving it in the hole. I used the string method, worked like a charm.
Thank you for this. For the longest time I thought I was constantly leaving my windows cracked. Ordering them right now. Being that I'm extra, gonna caulk the perimeter from the inside.
Thank you my brother. This video helped alot. I just got my in step be step the exact same way.
Not all models do that
Thank you very much for this video I also found that my antenna on top of the roof was leaking fixed that got that to stop leaking realized just this morning with the heavy rains last night that I still got water and I see less water than before but still Sum watched your video and I do believe that is the culprit I appreciate you thank you for your time.
I also have to check for leaf build up. The bed to the cab in the middle is very tight and leaves can build up in there.
This solves my water issue! My flaps on my original were gone! Thank you!
Very welcome! thanks for watching!
Man all my damn flaps were gone too lol. I guess I got my moneys worth for 9 years for an $8 repair. Thanks for the video brother.
Thanks, you have saved me from throwing money down the drain.
Glad I could help
Man....this is such a design fail....glad I found your clip. Thanks boss
Very welcome!
Very good video and explanation of the repair!! You made it clear on how to repair. Thank you!! I will try to watch for this leak in my RAM. I dont know why you call it a Dodge lol. That name was dropped in 2010. Take care.
Great video thanks for sharing, I’ll be doing mine Monday or Tuesday all the flappers are blown out and gone, I pulled carpet and everything out down to the body metal on Tuesday this way I can get all the moisture out then do the repair and make sure no water intrusion for a day or two then put it all back together.. same time if slow got to do the rear sliding power window actuator as the cable got all bound up
Nice video, I was cleaning my truck a week ago and had some reusable shopping bags under the rear seat and found a couple puddles of water on them but nothing else wet but have been noticing for some time a musty smell in the truck thought it may have been a dead mouse or rotted food under the seat where I can't see it I bet this is what it is
That leak is likely the culprit that fried the RF modulator in my 2017's ignition system. Gonna replace these on the double!
Getting ready to do this on my wifes 2020. Thank you for the detailed video. Wish me luck.
Thank you Jesus!!! Glad I found this video. Thank you!
Awesome video, thank you.
You're welcome.
Little trick to get the vents back in that makes it a little easier. Tie a piece of string to it, and pull the string up from the bottom of the truck between the cab and bed until it aligns, then pull it in from the inside of the truck.
I tried that first but it wouldn't fit between them. There was some kind of dew wipe there
Exactly what I have. I’m trying this now.
Thanks for this video! I was scratching my head, I have this exact issue!!!
Thank you for doing such a detailed and great video. Keep them up.
More videos coming soon!
Good info, waiting on follow up update, I have the same truck.
Thanks I have same problem. Going to do this.
Good luck!
Thank you for the information. I'll check if they did change it on my 2022 Ram Rebel. Unless you know what. Thank you 🇺🇸👍🏻
I will watch for the back seat install video with the washers to raise up the back. If that works I will do it. Thanks!!

Between the bed and the cab, there's vents down there. Sounds to me like that's your problem.
Mr.
Awesome root cause analysis! Thank you.
I just discovered a bunch of mildewed mail and a usps box under my seat I was like there is no reason this should be like this I will investigate this now thanks
part numbers? source of parts? thanks for the info. work truck is flooding from this leak
Very helpful, thank you for your time.
There is a current class action lawsuit regarding this problem.. you can search it online and contact the law firm
Do you have a link to the page for the lawsuit?
Thank, I think you might have solved my mystery
Thanks for the vid. I have same problem on my 2021 Ram TRX. Have you had any problems since installing the new designed vents? Just ordered mine.
Really good video. I would only add do not be gentle with the new part when first sticking it through the hole. Don't worry about damaging it just Ram it through there.
I subscribed… you definitely deserve that.., you’ve helped a lot of people… thanks again…
Thank you sir, this is the way I'm going to do it on my 2019 ram, 👍
Go for it!
Super helpful video, thanks for sharing.
Very welcome!
Awesome I'm in KY too. What gen ram is this? Mines an 06, it's doing it on the driver side but not the passenger side, yet....
Thanks for the video and advice on the vents, but the vinegar might cause rust?
Naw its still rust free!
at GM we used spray 9 to clean interior / mildew. your way is probly better? not too sure. havent looked into comparing.
What's the website where you ordered them, and what is the official name? I'm having this same problem. Thank you!
Sorry it has taken 6 months, have you found them yet? I used moparparts.com.
Thank you good man!!
Glad it helped!
Do you know if the part link you provided is correct for a 2015 Ram 1500 too? Thanks
Info for anybody searching….I had the vent leak in my 2011. After replacing them and doing a water test, I discovered I also had a leak coming from the rear window seal.
Do you have a video on how to remove the back seat?
@RamOverland has this fixed the problem? I’m also in KY and the rain recently has lead to musty smells and pooled water under my seats. 2017 ram. Good video
Water free for 6 months now!
i did this last month too. passed the downpour test! @@LivingFreeInAWrangler
Thanks you really appreciate
It's my pleasure
Damn, been hunting a leak and full back seat for a couple years. Now I've got to get my back seat out when the bottom won't come up. lol
What is the correct ( or technical) name for these vents ? I own a 2021 Ram crew cab and I like the idea of ordering them in case my truck suffers the same problem.
Exhauster Body Aperture. Just ordered mine!
I had that same, damn penny under my seat; wonder how it made its way to your back seat? Hmmm
LOL
@RamOverland What’s the part number or model number for the new design cab pressure vent
Pinned to the top... sorry it took so long!
VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON A RAM , USED SEALANT AND DONE. HIGH MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT ALWAYS LEAKS
Looks almost like a pool noodle stuck between the truck bed and the cab would help prevent water from falling down onto the vent .
How difficult is it to remove the seats to access the area? I don't know if this is something I can do alone.
Do you have a part number to share? Thanks.
Pinned it up top if you have not yet found it!
All done when I added my push button start. Very reasonable price also (I think about $8 each thru Mopar parts). Hardest thing was getting back seat out. Thanks. @@LivingFreeInAWrangler
By chance, did the spacers for the bolts work out as you’d hoped?
What year truck does this pertain to? I'm dealing with water seeping in on a 2020, curious if this may be the issue. Thanks in advance for response.
All the rams have these from what I understand. Mine was the 2018
I had the same problem a few months back with my Ram and I did everything that I considered the cheapest options replacing all the rear gaskets like the top brake light but I sent it in to my own mechanic and a Ram dealer and it turns out the rear window gasket was gone years back and it turned out to be extremely expensive
Wow. kinds reminds me of the PCM/ECM issues on the 2005-2006 TJ wranglers.
Thank you
Are any of yiu guys getting a bad musty smell like mold. I have a 21 got it detailed a week later started smelling very musty.
I call BS.
They always blame the 3rd brake light. its a 2018
Thanks buddy, what a great choice by RAM 🙄
