This transmission was built years ago. A simple google search of the FSM and the transmission code for parts should suffice well.

Hey Zeek, I think my 2004 Frontier shares this transmission. First gear started making a weird whirring noise between 5-15mph. Must be a bad gear/bearing. Looking to swap it out soon!
Ah curious. If you off road or tow with the truck its possible 1st gear teeth or bearings go overloaded

Both can be done independent of each other

I live in the bay area myself. I have this same transmission (fs5w71c) in my R32 GTS-t and I think I may need to rebuild it. Any suggestions? Im just looking for a rebuild similar to factory, my car isn't "built" by any means and I just want a basic stock setup.
Hey Mike its Ezekiel. We are both in the NorCal Skylines Owners group. I have the 4 door R33 GTST with GTR front face conversion.
Factory rebuild, in house deburr/lightening, and WPC +Cryo treat key parts is what we suggest for these transmissions. We've build many of these for time attack and track day cars already

Bearing splitter and 20ton press. I think a few bearings/gears needed a puller. IIRC front counter bearing need a specific SST. I cut the outer race to pull it off.

Motul gear 300. If the trans is old/worn, Amsoil severe gear 75w90 - bascially a heavier weight oil. Synthetic/non synthetic are both fine
I completely rebuilt my transmission everything now and second year has sounds like car keys jiggling..... I wonder if the main shaft is pitted in ruined needle bearings it It makes a noise and 4th also

To give you my background in a nut shell, I gave up my government job with a guaranteed 30 yr retirement in order to pursue my dreams.

What’s up ! I got a s13 trans for my S14 when I bought it, previous owner thought that one of the gears and synchros broke or something and it needs to be rebuilt, how much do you normally charge to rebuild a transmission?

@@paulsbuilds1982 Sorry Im not a Nissan guy. What is a G variation. Otherwise you could google the PDF for both service manuals and compare.
When you do get around to do this can you please say where you get the parts and what the part numbers are and if the s13 has different numbers say what they are if possible
@@protofreak9518 Big ask! But I will do my best. The correct bearings I bought from eBay sellers from the UAE. AMP Gear has a good explanation of S13/S14 and year to year parts differences.

i have a sr20det swapped mgb roadster with the s13 5 speed gearbox. only when in 4th gear and above 2000rpm and decelerating or very light throttle there is a horrible vibrating / rattling noise through my drivetrain / gearbox. any suggestions on what would be causing this?
4th should be direct drive 1:1. That may give you a clue. Ive actually only built one of thee transmissions and have little Nissan experience
I have an s14 and it does the exact same thing, input shaft bearing is guilty of giving problems.
@@jj205mi Luckily you can get brand new input shaft (4th gear set) for these trans. Toyota guys around the world should be jealous!

Hey I race a s13 240sx. I only use 1-2-3. All
The Honda guys I race against remove 4-5 gears to reduce weight. Is is possible to do the same with a s13 5 speed.
I imagine there is some kit or gearset that allows removal of those gears. So it is possible is you or someone makes it.
How much for a full rebuild of one of these, from an 89 d21?
I have a 1990 s13 hatch it has a spun bearing but it’s a clean all original car I haven’t tested the trans yet because my new engine won’t be here for 2 weeks but I bought a spare for $25 the guy said it goes through all the gears and drives fine without any noises but does grind gears when you shift with any speed so I want to rebuild it I figured 🤷♂️ it’s something I wanna learn to do and it’s cheaper than a box of legos lol the shifter assembly alone is worth that IMO I’m trying to find a rebuild kit not having any luck!!!!! Anyone have a link? It’s an s13 manual transmission
Good rebuild kit for that trans doesn't exist. You have to mix and match parts.

@@kingarthur7255 Yep. Byproduct of 30 years of people saying its cheaper to put in a good used trans rather than do a rebuild. Now here we are in 2020 with rare AF rebuild parts on a common AF trans.
What is the cost or ball park cost of a rebuild on one of these? I have a daily driver SR s14 that shows its age (grinding 3rd on downshifts and reverse can be werid) and I am debating a rebuild VS a Z32/Z33 conversion as I don't care for an upgrade but more so a new feel with the luxury of knowing I can drive as aggressive as I want without over complicating it.
Labor will vary depending on your area. But customer invoice for part alone was about $800.

Good used 3600 later.
My cluster shaft split at the mid plate. I say cluster only because counter shaft says obsolescence. But upon reseach look up nis-8 zmnis-8 is a usa standard gear
