    The effigy at the end wasn't Mothra. It was the mech suit that Harou used to sacrifice himself in. The children are seen giving up their fears to the fire to help purge themselves from fostering hatred as Harou did.

    In the post credit scene we see 4 children saying what they fear and presenting it as those little ornaments, 2 of them are clearly descendants of the humans from the ship, one of them possibly from Haruo. They start chanting for the wrathful one to bless them as they burn those ornaments in front of an idol” which is possibly a representation of the wrathful one” I believe this wrathful one is not Godzilla but instead Haruo. Their civilization learned to live with the planet rather than on it, thus avoiding the cycle of destruction that comet with civilization. Haruo seeing that the remaining nanometal could be a path towards civilization and back to the cycle decided to destroy it along with himself. He killed him self because as stated at the end of the movie, the Hotua are strangers to the concept of hatred. He is aware that from amongst all of the humans he is the only one whose hatred will never cease. The Hotua as he saw have telepathic abilities, so regardless of what he does he would eventually infect them. That’s why he told Maina that if he stayed she would understand him, she would eventually learn hatred. Thats why he had to go along the nanometal.
    In the ritual they are giving their fears to the wrathful one, riding themselves from it by burning it, as Haruo rid the tribe from hatred by burning himself in Godzilla’s fire.

    I was with this series....right until the ending. Committing suicide to "end the hatred" is just a weak excuse to me. Learning to let go of the hatred and living in peace with the yet unborn child he helped create wouldve been so much better than simply going "imma blow up the tech and hopefully end the cycle of hate".
    The Ancient One in the marvel movie Dr Strange said it best i think: "We never lose our demons, we only learn to live above them." Humans and hatred are a package deal, always will be. What Haruo chose to do was the cowards way out in my opinion, even if he had noble intentions.

    • @seen203
      @seen203 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yea. His suicide was so reminiscent of the ending of the new Battlestar Galactica where Lee Adama says they have to break the cycle by destroying their high tech stuff(the fleet and everything else).
      You heard that- the only way to eliminate the cycle to DESTROY ALL LONG TERM RECORDS OF THE CYCLE'S EXISTENCE.
      And then, as we saw at the end of BSG, humanity eventually went right on its way through the cycle again. Gee, I f***ing wonder why.

      It's stated in the movie that the Hota don't have a word for Hatred, and Haruo said that if he stuck around, they eventually would gain hatred for Godzilla, and fall back on the course to civilization, resurrecting the cycle of endless destruction. Him sacrificing himself was to prevent the cycle of destruction from coming full circle.

No. They are worshiping an effigy of the Vulture that Haruo rode in and sacrificed himself inside of and they look to Haruo as the "Lord of Wrath" and they burn effigy of their fears and hatred to the alter and ask the Lord of Wrath to take away their fears and hatred. "Godzilla has nearly a 70 year old heritage, it stands to reason that not every movie can be the same recipe, there needs to be experimentation. That is clearly what happened here with the 3 part movie series, sure there is a chunk of action, but this isn't Pacific Rim - it's much more of a dark dystopian Sci-fi i.e. some intellect and thinking required.
    That said personally I found it super relaxing to watch, the crisp visuals, great voice acting (Both Japanese, Mandarin and English all fab) - very easy on the eye and not overly mentally taxing - it's just thought provoking.
    It focused more on the idea of godzilla, the implications and what is a similar theme in Asian mythology - the connection between hatred, destruction and forgiveness and rebirth.
    Overall this is definitely one for those more interested in intellectual pursuits, there are a ton of physics, sociology and philosophical concepts that gets you thinking - this for me is definitely a cult classic, it won't wet everyones appetites, will definitely polarize but I truly hope will live on for years to come."--murchie-9565910 January 2019

    There was no reason for Haruo to quite likely destroy humanity's ability to advance technologically. That nutjob could've just thrown himself off a cliff or something...
    Who cares about Ghidorah? He was invulnerable only because of the thing in Metphies's eye, and it no longer exists. Godzilla can defeat the Golden Wings of Demise as many times as needed, Earth is safe from Ghidorah.
    Summary: Haruo is an asshole, he only cared about dying in a cool way. Now because of his selfish actions, everyone's quite likely permanently imprisoned in Stone Age.

    I get the reasoning behind Haruo’s sacrifice, but did he seriously have to kill himself? You mean to tell that futuristic machine didn’t have some form of autopilot? Or any other way to destroy both it and the nano body corpse? I mean bruh this dude just got a girl pregnant and married her, and then he up and kills himself? Makes me kind of hate him to be honest, and it’s not there isn’t other technology left over that the remaining humans could abuse. At least one of the people left over will miss the old days of modern living and try to start some shit. The whole thing just felt redundant. The first two parts of this trilogy were actually decent, but part 3 just sucked. Ghidorah’s abilities were the only really interesting part, and we didn’t even get to enjoy a legitimate fight between Ghidorah and the G-man. Just made the whole trilogy feel stale.

Idk that's just what I'm thinking anyway we'll probably won't get another installment to the series but I think it'd be cool. The movie mostly talk about hatred lead to self destruction, even at the end Haruo suicide is kinda escapism to the reality that human will always have hatred, and civilization will still continue to grow back, he just make it longer, harder for everyone else and in process destroy the history of mankind for many centuries
      Just because something have bittersweet ending does not make it have the same vibes of Evangelion

    What is wrong with feeling hate? It's a completely reasonable reaction to feel hate towards things that are evil, and this Godzilla fits that bill, even if it has no sentience or moral character to weigh such actions. Godzilla is a destructive being that decimated a planet and wiped its civilization clean. Hatred for a non sentient force of evil is probably the most clean kind of hatred you can get. Over-zealous hatred of the Nazis can lead to over-zealous hatred of Germans, but who can say the same for the Dragon of Cancer, that takes lives cruelly and unjustly? The Polio that killed and crippled millions of children and adults alike? The smallpox that wiped the active cultures of two whole Continents, leaving their peoples decimated and open for the exploitation of colonists. Letting yourself be consumed by hatred is not healthy, but hate is a perfectly natural human emotion, especially when it's against undeniably evil things.
    This Godzilla is no different from the diesease we have eradicated and are trying to eradicate. The attempts to destroy were not some wrong acts of vengeance, but perfectly reasonable actions against the monster that continues to occupy your home, the few remainders of your species living eternally weak under its rule. The oppressed should not be happy living in the shadow of their conqueror.

No point and over time it will exaust and hurl humans into a deep confusion and depression, in the end you"ll have to submit or die!! its like hating religion and the divine, the universe is definitely created by some all powerful sentient being,and going atheist or hating it will only turn you into a dead being or worse eventually!

    Ok I think many got this part wrong. The post-credit ritual scene means that hatred has been implanted in that innocent society: The kids are burning away their fears, NOT hatred. And to burn away fears (read: Godzilla) = to burn (aka destroy) Godzilla = reinventing the cycle of hatred and destruction, breaking the Hotuo philosophy of co-habitation. If you miss this point, try and watch all three again in one go.

      Every person has their own preferences. Earth godzilla trilogy try to make a new formula of godzilla movie.
      Unlike shin godzilla who resembles the very first godzilla movie which the concept is to make godzilla a destroyer and abomination made by human nuclear wastes.
      Legendary godzilla also use the same formula as the toho godzilla later movies which is kaiju battles(most popular godzilla movies).
      Remember zilla? Hollywood try to modify godzilla's model to be more realistic but still to maintain godzilla origin as the product "nuclear weapon".
      I understand many people like legendary godzilla because Legendary tries to play safe and reboot the most popular godzilla movies(kaiju battles)
      However, you also must respect other godzilla movies which try to make new formula of godzilla movie even though you doesn't like them

    The only thing I’m confused about of the ending was when Haruo got killed by Godzilla, did Godzilla die too? Since this is the ending of the final film in the trilogy, I want to believe Godzilla DID die, but something about that final explosion made it hard to tell.

    • @lukefitton7329

      A year late but I don't think it killed Godzilla. After everything Ghidora and the humans threw at it that Godzilla survived throughout the trilogy its hard to believe that the destruction of that ship in Godzillas face would put him down. I think that the point is that humans would just have to co-exist with a monster, since it was said in the second movie 'You know why it is called a monster? Because humans cannot defeat it.' or something along those lines.

    I was kinda hoping to see some character development at the end. But no, Haruo couldn't let go of his hate, even for the sake of his unborn child. The Vulture and the dead girl needed to be destroyed, don't get me wrong, I just feel like Haruo taking his own life while doing so was a major cop out both for the character and the writers.

    • @browntaxi7158
      @browntaxi7158 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kesselrunner well technically Yoko was already dead and the reason he took her along with him in his suicide was because she had the mecha Godzilla nanotechnology inside of her. The scientist guy even said the only reason he was able to fix the vulture was because he had found some dormant nanotechnology that was still functioning inside of her. So if he had left her then there was no point of what he was going to do, he had to erase every trace of the past as to make sure the same mistakes would not be repeated.

    • @kesselrunner
      @kesselrunner 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got that part. I just don't see why Haruo couldn't have just put her body inside the vulture, program the thing to self destruct and then go and raise his family once they were free from the threat of the technology. Committing suicide just seemed like a stupid thing to do.

    • @somecatperson2596
      @somecatperson2596 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kesselrunner that bcs haruo can't risk the tribe. N his own kid from the twins/all the descendants to be bound w his hatred that resembles of the human sense n need of power instead living beside the nature or godzilla itself as a representation of earth's last defense against any threat. So haruo need to stop the cycle by killing himself n any possible threat which is the cycle of destruction(included yoko w her active nanometal so they can't build another nanometal tech)

    • @kesselrunner
      @kesselrunner 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He could have stopped the cycle by getting over his hatred. I know that hatred was the main theme of the trilogy, "hatred destroys everything it touches" essentially. But humans can change. It would have been a much more compelling ending for Haruo if he had been able to let go of his hatred and live on in peace.

    • @somecatperson2596
      @somecatperson2596 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kesselrunner he did. For few months after at least. But since his survival professor buddy said that they can rebuild the nanotech to begin living as they used to. Then haruo got ptsd. Affraid of fate of men repeated again. N much worse. Dragging the whole tribe descendants to join his darkness n to be knowing "hatred", they way he did kill himself after that is a better way. At least a new hope for their descendants to developing knowledge. Or maybe new way of tech that is much saver, efficient n tolerated by godzilla or the earth itself in thousand years later n treat the godzilla as the ultimate protector n reminder for limiting the greed that possesed by human

    If I was to describe the Anizilla trilogy in one word, it would be "Pointless". Seriously, none of the events of these movies actually accomplished anything. Godzilla still rules the world, and the Hotua still lives in his shadow. Nothing changed! If the Aratrum had been blown up before leaving Earth instead of escaping, or had never returned to Earth at all, it would have made absolutely no difference.
    When I learned how this trilogy ended, I couldn't help but remember a certain quote from MST3K: "We hope you've enjoyed 'No-Moral Theater'!"

    I think the concept of introducing multiple philosophies throughout the series via species, predator/prey relationships, and humanity as a whole is genius. But as the movies went on and on, everything goes to shit. All the dialogue, the acting, the plot, just kind of molds itself from a cool, deep storyline to a shitshow spitting out as many edgy quotes as possible. The third movie was definitely the worst, if people thought the Mecha Godzilla tease was disappointing then I can only imagine how they felt seeing Ghidorah and then 2 scenes of Mothra. I wasn't looking for another Japanese kaiju movie where Godzilla somehow wins out of sheer plot armor, but god some action wouldn't have hurt. But Haruo's sacrifice was dope, I felt that that moment was one of the most compelling in the trilogy.

    I don’t think anyone really caught on to who they were praying to at the end of the movie. “Oh wrathful one, oh wrathful one, please bless us with our cleansing this year too please forget all our curses with this flame.” Seeing that this Is a ritual, this dates back before humanity returned the structure they build is not representing a vulture and they aren’t praying to Godzilla. Mothra is peaceful so they wouldn’t be talking to her. There is another Toho monster, one born of fire. To be honest, the only monster who has never been defeated by GOdzilla although they’ve fought countless times and sometimes side by side. RODAN. It’s no secret that Rodan and mothra have teamed up before (ghidrah the three headed monster) and there is a teaser of them teaming up in the second trailer of king of the monsters. What the HOtua are praying too is for purification through fire. The god they are praying to, the one who will cleanse them is none other than Rodan, the balance of the three. Godzilla is nature (earth) , mothra is peace & life (wind/water), Rodan is the purifier (pure fire)

    Not gonna lie, I didn't like it. It would have been better in (my opinion) Harou manages to fly the vulture inside Godzilla and self-destruct killing Godzilla. From the remains a new Godzilla would come out. They do a 10 to 25 years later segment, which shows the new Godzilla observing people rebuilding civilization. The post-credits would show almost the same thing, but the effigy is the new Godzilla. Godzilla would turn around while observing the people and notice a meteor (a monster) hit a mountain causing an earthquake . He would glance back at the people seeing the fear in their eyes and then turn back to fight whatever landed on Earth. Then again, I don't have the power resources to change something like this so I will just say it is canon in my mind.
