    I usually try the “let’s see if I can get it near the hole” method myself

    Since watching you video's, I've purchased my 1st set of vokey Wedges, and love practicing, high, medium, low, with each wedge,....60 56 50 46 degree...I've also moved up to the 1st forward tee after white....This allows me to use my wedges more, and more game control

    Another great video with great little tips. One of the biggest skills that helped my handicap drop from a 7 to a 3 this year has been controlling the height of my wedges. I don't always hit knockdowns like you said, but learning to control the spin and the height of short irons and wedges has helped me get the ball much closer to the hole, especially with wind and elevation changes to the greens.

    Good day Rick! First you are my favorite internet PGA instructor i have seen many times all your incredible, helpful, well done and a wildest range of videos! I have learn so much being a mid beginner and when ever i have difficulties i always come back and look for a video concerning my problem. I just bought a brand new Taylormade EXTRA FULL set RBZ SPEEDLITE as my retirement gift and at the same time raise my quality of equipment! So far so good i made a really good choies cause i brought down my handicap of 4 now at 6. I just wanted to thank you for all your work and passion to the sport and i am sure you helped many many players new and old to get better and enjoying playing lot better golf. Again Thank you and keep up the good work ! If i had 1 request it would be to know more on the approche of the green and selection of wedges starting 130 yards. God Bless. I don't typically watch instructional videos, but this helped me a lot. I play a high shot for EVERYTHING. All my irons and wedges. I take minimal divots, and when I do, they're very shallow. I suffer playing in wind. Just the slight differences in ball positions and shaft position is super helpful.

    Really though, if you want to hit it higher, just go down a club (assuming it will still reach), and if you want to hit it lower, go up a club and choke up. These things you mentioned are things nearly every decent golfer will pick up eventually, but most of us will also realize there are very few instances with which you'd ever be forced to use this. Stopping it short being the most common, but you can just aim a little left and open the face up a tad as well, and then just swing normally. You have to get used to how that shot will play in the air, and even on the green, as there will be more of a side spin, vs all backspin, but again, it's just something you have to play a few times and get used to what it's going to do. Hardly ever any reason to try and deloft a wedge. Just go to a lower lofted club, and choke up with a easy swing.

    Great tips Rick - I have to be honest I usually hit the high shot for fear of catching the leading edge in the turf and have recently gone back to a more neutral hand position as I was delofting too much. Your video explains the other options beautifully. Something else to practice.

  • @fredrikwallin1691
    @fredrikwallin1691 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I prefer the middle high shot myself, i play my 52 for most of the time but frequently practice all of this with my 56 and 60. It all depends on the yardage on the shot on the course. In my opinion wedges are the club that is most fun to practice with, and u should feel comfortable with all of them. Makes no sense to only be good with one wedge.
    Great vid man.

    @halconnen1483 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've tried knockdowns, low burners, etc but without devoting a lot a practice to them I've always felt more comfortable using more club and touching down my backswing. With a gap or sw I do feel better about shaping the height with my hands and it's actually kind of fun. However I loose striking consistency pressing my hands forward or moving the ball back in my stance.

  • @charlieodom9107
    @charlieodom9107 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    For my high shots, I open the club up and set the ball forward in my stance. For my low ones, I close the club face down and place the ball way back in my stance, and stop my follow through with the back of my hand facing the target. This keeps the club from finishing and can really create some nice stingers.

  • @kguenett1

    Thanks Rick for this video. some great insight into course management. My ball flight is typically low because I have such a forward press in my swing. Great to see how to adjust so I can play a different trajectory when I want. I tend to go back to the forward press so I don't struggle with ball striking. Although I love your course blogs and club testing, I benefit much more from your instructional videos.

    I'm either middle or high all the time, I really struggle to create spin on the ball even for the top level balls so I need to get it up in the air to try and stop it quickly even if the pin is at the back as a low shot is likely to run right through.

    I love hitting a knock down with more front ball position as that allows me to hit a knockdown with a little more height as well as good spin and that makes a 1 hop and stop shot or lets me spin it of a ridge with having easier distance control as i can land it short of the ridge and let it hop onto it and it will spin back or it will also spin back if it lands there, which gives me a landing zone of 1 or 2 yards more.
