      @@simplystreeptacular not necessarily, if they tried to train him a decent amount before seeking help but didn’t know he was deaf, it could’ve been really hard. Then, if he’s still doing the problems after he’s a young dog and grown a bit bigger, it would be reasonable to brush off the behaviour when it was less destructive because of his size and strength

    Brilliant! Given he's partially deaf all the owners pulling away because he couldn't hear the admonishing sounds, he just thought it was a great game. Unfortunately as he's pretty much the size of a pony that's one big dog coming at you! I'm really glad that they got this resolved ❤️

    • @m6666
      @m6666 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juliaf.9243 if you do proper obedience training, you'll find that gestures go hand in hand with verbal ques and eventually the verbal ques get cut out, especially in obedience trials. I've always used both and during times when I have visitors I only use the hand ques. But as you said, it also comes in handy when they get older and start going deaf.

    Mama dogs and cats teach their younglings how hard is too hard to play, usually by disciplining that behavior immediately with warning nips or certain noises to get them to stop. It's something that people with puppies and kittens need to enforce for the safety of everyone in the future. It's cute when they're young, but when they're older, it's dangerous.

    • @katphish30
      @katphish30 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I had a bottle raised single kitten who I had to be very strict with from about six weeks. He used to like to nuzzle into my eye socket and nibble on my nose, and I thought, "In a couple of weeks this won't be cute." From then on, his socialization had a heavy emphasis on We Don't Bite Mommy. He turned out weird, but he was never a biter like a lot of single kittens.

    • @anamariefalk3796
      @anamariefalk3796 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The thing is that he can’t hear so those noises are something they can’t do. Obviously I can’t say how long he was with his litter mates, but these seem like responsible owners who have raised those dogs before and they’re well behaved

    Floyd looks a lot like my cousin’s dog! Cooper’s mixed, but his coloring and size are the same. When my cousin first got him at around a year old, he would sometimes try to jump up on people whilst trying to shower them with affection, and when you’re the size of a pony it doesn’t end well. My cousin’s been able to train him out of it, and now he just tap dances in place because he knows that if more than two paws leave the ground at once he is not a Good Boy and will not get to say hello.

    Ugh. I don't have dogs, I've only ever had cats, and the thing with cats is it's nearly impossible to get them to stop biting if you let them bite you as a kitten. So I tend to get dumped all the "problem" adult cats after their "loving owners" have decided that the adult biting cat isn't so cute anymore.
    I've figured out ways to retrain adult cats to atleast stop biting hard, so when they do bite, it's more mouthing or nipping. Personally, I'm a little scared of dogs, ESPECIALLY jumping dogs, got mauled by one as a child. I can't imagine just letting one continuing that behavior into adulthood.

    • @LoLzocker9875
      @LoLzocker9875 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      if you push him down it just makes him even more excited, because thats play for him. just turn away from him, arms in and wait till he gets more calm then praise him. If he doesnt stop just leave the room for a little bit till he realises that he made you go with this behavior and then come back (dogs dont understand your langauge, you have to speak more with your body). its important that you stay calm and dont get frustrated and dont give him commands when he is in a mode in which he has no mind for it... and with time it should get better, did atleast with mine.

    Does anyone know what to do with a mouthy 1 year and 10 month old female golden retriever she's very mouthy when I try to brush her or when I'm playing with her she also jumps on people I try asking them to turn around but they don't really listen to me even though I'm the owner the jumping may not be very serious with a adult but she can knock down a child she also sometimes barks at kids.
    I think this is happening because I got her a bit before I was moving to another country and to enter that country she had to atleast be 4 months old but when we ended up finally getting her she was 1 year and 3-4 months old and I didn't really do any training which I will admit is my fault does anyone know how to stop this

    • @PolarBear4
      @PolarBear4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how much it'll help, but my Uncle's Labrador puppy was pretty mouthy and jumped at people when she was a puppy. We managed to train her to go fetch a toy when someone came in the house and she was rewarded with a (sometimes just quick) game of tug or fetch which got some of the excitement and energy out. She'd usually go and grab the nearest toy whenever she heard the door open but if you asked her to go get a certain one she'd go and find it (her favourites were her stuffed duck and her stuffed bear - Golden Retrievers are smart too and you could send them to get certain things. Sometimes she'd fetch my Uncle's slippers - she could tell them apart from my Grandpop and Nana's and knew which pair belonged to who). She calmed down naturally as she got older and living with my Grandpop too who ended up having carers several times a day she eventually learned to just ignore the person as so many came and went (doctors/nurses/paramedics etc too). There were 2 carers who were the exception though as she loved them so she'd see them and go and grab her toy for a quick game of fetch lol.
      She wasn't a massive fan of grooming (especially anyone going near her nails!) but again, we used distraction. For us that meant holding a hard chew toy for her to gnaw on to distract her. We held it ourselves as it meant we could keep her in 1 place instead of her grabbing it and running off to a quiet spot. She had absolutely no sort of guarding instinct/food aggression and would even bring us her longer treats to hold while she ate them.
      So basically my suggestion would be redirection of her energy and patience. May not help totally but it could help a fair bit if you put the work in.

      You need to train your pet to sit-stay when you have people in the vicinity. This whole video is full of toys on how to train your pet to be calm and listen to you. Use years and consistent training. Do not yank your dog away from people or act overly excited. People should not have to act a certain way around your pet, because your pet should be listening and focused on you.

    A classic example of, there's no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners. They fail to teach their dog because they are unprepared. But at least they're prepared to try and fix things from an expert.

    Keep giving the dog your arm and this will encourage him to bit more , it's a game . Stop giving the dog attention and turn away, they have made the problem, you do not need to pay anyone it's that simple.

    It's not ok when he's a puppy and that's the issue. The poor guy just needs proper training. You're experienced owners yet have no clue? Hmmmm I'd have this dog sorted in three days.

    Ridgebacks must be trained and they need lots of room to run otherwise this is what they turn into.

    A friend of mine has pretty much the same size german shepard that did this, the second time i grabbed him by the scruff, picked him up and slammed him on his side, he didn't do it again.

    That’s what happens when you don’t train your dog properly. It’s a dog not a human.

    It's you. He's a puppy between 0-2 years old.
    You must set boundaries. Firm NOs do wonders in establishing leadership.
    You exhibit poor leadership skills, and should NOT have large dogs.

    If you can't teach a dog not to jump up from the puppy stage then you are useless at training one. This animal will never be domesticated therefore it should be put down/destroyed.

      Yes, but instead of training, most people would rather get sedatives from their vet. Or expect them to wrestle with the dog. 😒 Very sad because he's not a bad dog, just large and exuberant.

    • @m6666
      @m6666 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BklynBabe exactly, and another thing people do is that they just dump the dog they can't be bothered training at the shelter because it's all too hard. It's never the dogs fault, unfortunately a lot of people don't do their research before taking on a dog and the poor dogs are the ones that suffer.
