@@user-digitalfarmgirl The term is specifically "weaponized incompetence". Not always, but usually men in relationships purposefully poorly execute or all together avoid doing for instance household tasks so that when the woman in the relationship gets tired of redoing the poorly done task or asking the man to pick up his slack, she does it for him. It can also extend to lack of effort in relationships themselves. The woman might care about doing things for their partner and takes the time and effort to ask, plan and do them while the man usually thinks it's the "woman's" duty to do "such things" and rarely, if ever, thinks his partner is worth his effort. It has recently been a frequently used term on social media, especially on TikTok.

Love how Victoria handled the situation with the kids. One of the biggest reasons dogs get rehomed as "aggressive" dogs is because parents don't monitor and guide the situations between their children and their dogs. This is how dogs get totally avoidable bite histories. Parents need to take a proactive role in making sure their kids interact with dogs properly. Otherwise, the kid is in serious danger.
Absolutely. I have big dogs and horses - it's crucial that I taught my kids how to be around both. These animals are a lot of fun, but they are inherently dangerous.
The problem is they haven't set any rules or training in place for children or dog. Dog is just a permanent puppy as he knows no different. The actions of children are encouraging the behaviour. Mostly common sense isn't being used
I bought a puppy mill Shih Tzu over 20 years ago. He was almost dead when I rescued him and I never stopped having to nurse him. Enlarged heart, blind , seizures. I was able to keep him alive until 12 years old. Misha gave me my heart back. I will miss and love him forever. But I’m with all of you who feel puppy mills should not be allowed.
There's practically no difference between training a puppy and a toddler. *Nanny Most ppl who can afford me have had their poorly trained "fur babies" for yrs before baby and I entered the picture. Poorly trained animals are dangerous around babies, so I've taken to training the animals who need it just to safeguard baby. What else can you do? LOL
There is nothing strange or funny about it. Dog training is 95% training the human, 5% training the dog!!! Any pet owner should realize this, BEFORE having a pet. Also, while educating the son with the stop light game, she 100% also educated the parents, which is even more important. But she didn't do that in their face as she also knows when she educated the son in this playful manner, the parents would be far more open minded and pick these things up, instead of when she would do that right in their face. Because if the latter, adults often close up, go into defensive mode, go in denial, etc... This is simple human psychology 101... And rest assure, that was very much her intention! She damn knows what she is doing. Also, there are NO untrainable dogs!!!! I even dare to say: there are VERY RARELY 'dangerous dogs', if any at all. It is all about the human/handler! Also also, labradors are highly trainable and family friendly dogs (even the ones with ADHD). But yeah, you need to put in the work. But, in the end, the family is going to be very much ok, I'm sure. And a lovely caring home for the dog.... *IF* they keep this up (which I often miss in programs like this, although in this case they showed us how it was a few weeks later, but I'd really be interested to know how it is like a year from now, especially when dealing with a puppy).
@@CookieTubewhile I agree with most of it, I disagree with the there is no untrainable dog part, there unfortunately are untrainable dogs and those dogs mostly end up euthanized.
I feel bad for the mom, you can clearly see how tired she is and how little support she has from her partner. It is immature for the husband to buy an animal and don’t want any responsibility.
My mom *was* the only one to want our dog. I hate how she keeps threatening to give him away, whenever she is frustrated with him or when he needs to go to the vet. (we have had him for 8y) She obviously favours our cat even though she is the one that brought the dog here. She couldn't be bothered to train him with enjoying to be outside (he gets scared easily) and just gave up on him. I don't like him ,but he is family and it's not his fault he is here. For a while when I had time I would regularly go on walks with him. It was the first times I saw him enjoying going on walks. Yes I gave him treats occasionally ,but even without them he still was happy walking around. (also taught him some simple commands ,because he wouldn't listen before) We all go on walks with him or feed him, but it's in my opinion obvious that the dog is not really liked in the family. So I try and give him extra attention ,even if I don't like him.

Based on the husbands response to the dog being diagnosed with hyperactivity, I would imagine he put up a front and stop that potential diagnosis. My dad was similar. None of us were diagnosed as kids, and with my brother the school pushed for testing recommendations SEVERAL times. Two of us are ADHD, brother and I are also autistic. My dad likely was autistic as well, not that he would have every seen a psych for testing. It was hard enough to get him to agree to go to a medical dr. My dad was just about as involved and ineffective as this guy was from the start. It was like pulling teeth to get him to interact with us, even as adults. I'm impressed with this family because they put in the work and continued to put in the work after she left. Their kids are cute, seem like good kids minus the temper tantrum the younger son had there. And mom deserved that break for herself.
Temper tantrums are normal for children. They don't know how to regulate their intense emotions so they got to let it out somehow, yelling and screaming is the only way they would be able to let it out If they weren't taught any other way. It's all about teaching them how to regulate this emotions and how they can cope when they have big intense feelings like anger.
The kid was testing his dad 🤨 It was a new dynamic & the kid instinctively tested dad's boundaries. They will give their impulses free reign & not curb them like they do with their mom or teachers 😮💨
A huge misconception about labs is that they are great family dogs, they are, BUT, only when trained properly. Labs can be neurotic and can be very stubborn…

A lot of people are still being raised in an antiquated way of thinking about disability and it's important to see this to gain a deeper understanding of how it happens and how we can fully move past it in the future. I had to live with relatives like this for a while who, funnily enough, also kept several dogs in cages for most of the day, had zero control over their behavior, and claimed to be too tired every day to train them. I had to move out when their behavior towards me over my disability became hostile. I don't know what became of the dogs.

Mine actually took our kid to grandma's with him for our anniversary. I'm autistic and was having a terrible burnout. He felt horribly guilty because he actually was dealing with so much that he forgot the actual date on that day. I told him to absolutely not worry about it, that it was just the perfect gift for me, something I desperately needed. I spent all weekend SLEEPING and just chilling out and playing video games and doing stuff I never have time to do normally. It was such a blessing. I was a different person (in a good way) when he and kid came back. I was thrilled to see them again and not so tense and mean about everything.
I don’t fault ppl for not realizing what they signed up for, I fault them for not taking the. responsibility for their own actions when it comes to light. This family should be commended for acknowledging their ignorance, asking for help, and then stepping up to the job at hand. Bravo!

Actually I think this incredible woman has two beautiful sons and a husband who shows willingness and is open to change and has illustrated this clearly. Many people are unwilling to reflect on themselves and improve so kudos to this family.
There should be an easier way to learn about training dogs. And these videos are a good example of that. I have learned so much from watching Victoria train these dogs and the owners to be better. not everybody is able to afford a full-blown dog trainer. So videos like this are really nice.
People are supposed to how to tor a dog care before they get the dog. Tons of free training guides on the internet. This is why people shouldn't get a pet on a whim.
I agree up to a point, but quite often the reality isn't as easy as it looks in many videos or dog training books. I've had many customers who've tried to prepare well, read loads, even owned and somehow managed to train their previous dogs, until they get one that just doesn't work the way dogs are supposed to. So I'd say that people who are not willing to put the effort into training their dogs, including getting help if it's needed, should not get a dog.
@@durabelle Extremely well said! I know a lot of people too who knew they needed to train the dog... but simply couldn't, no matter how well-intentioned they were. It is a skill, which not everybody has. (btw: EXACT same thing can be said about having kids, but that's another topic I guess)

I really think it was so wholesome for Victoria to take Karen out to the beach and give her a breather for once! It really shows how awesome Victoria is.😊
This is proof that positive only training doesn’t always work. Victoria had to use the leash as an aversive to show Indiana that jumping and nipping isn’t okay. But just because it’s an aversive technique doesn’t mean it’s overly harsh or mean. I’m only commenting this to hopefully help people understand that it takes more to fix problem behavior than treats and praise and that’s okay. Balanced training is teaching the dog the behavior you want using positive techniques and then using a combination of praise and correction after they understand the behavior.
I'm all for R+ training, and minimal R- / punishment. But! Sometimes something is necessary to _prevent_ the behaviour, as it can harm both the dog and the human, so yeah. A leash keeps the dog from jumping, and then when he relaxes you can reward. Same with a muzzle, it prevents biting. Like during social training. If the dog got loose and ran to the other dog walking by, it's good to have. You can still praise and reward while using restraints like a leash. Just don't pull harshly, as it can genuinely cause long-term harm.
I'm glad Victoria could work with the husband.i was shocked at how little this man realized about indiana.there are still people who think that an animal or a child will grow out of bad behavior

The woman might care about doing things for their partner and takes the time and effort to ask, plan and do them while the man usually thinks it's the "woman's" duty to do "such things" and rarely, if ever, thinks his partner is worth his effort. It has recently been a frequently used term on social media, especially on TikTok.
@@artlover5060 thank you for expounding upon that for me . I think it's a fairly accurate term for what you described. It sounds like mind games. I never did that crap with either of my late husbands & they didn't do it with me, because we realized life is too short for that kind of crap.
As a dog trainer, I had to tell someone's kids "stop pulling their tail. It's uncomfortable and he needs to focus".. the parent did NOTHING
@courtneysparkle1960 that's a bite waiting to happen. Ugh.
@courtneysparkle1960 That's when you yank the kids ear hard and say "do you like that?... that's how it feels"
Make puppy mills illegal
Absolutely.... But that doesn't solve the problem of the massive ignorance of people about pets though.
The problem is they haven't set any rules or training in place for children or dog. Dog is just a permanent puppy as he knows no different. The actions of children are encouraging the behaviour. Mostly common sense isn't being used
Puppy mills pay lits of taxes, permits, ect...

Mom deserves a break she works so hard and needs time to relax ❤
So did I because it showed him what she has to put up with and he responded to that in a very positive way. Many would not.
That was wonderful! Those two boys seemed very intelligent and polite. Must've been a joy to work with them.
The eldest was exceptionally intelligent, both intellectually and emotionally, in addition to being hyper-perceptive. I hope they have him tested.
I laughed at the fact that she trained the child too
There's practically no difference between training a puppy and a toddler.
*Nanny
Most ppl who can afford me have had their poorly trained "fur babies" for yrs before baby and I entered the picture. Poorly trained animals are dangerous around babies, so I've taken to training the animals who need it just to safeguard baby. What else can you do? LOL
It's important for children to learn how to handle an animal. Especially if that animal has shown aggression like biting.

(we have had him for 8y)
She obviously favours our cat even though she is the one that brought the dog here.
(also taught him some simple commands ,because he wouldn't listen before)
We all go on walks with him or feed him, but it's in my opinion obvious that the dog is not really liked in the family. So I try and give him extra attention ,even if I don't like him.
Im glad to see how much mom got relief from this. You could visibly see her go from burning out to living again.

I love how the dog was diagnosed as having ADHD but the son wasn't.
I mean Victoria is a dog trainer not a human therapist. She's literally trained to see the symptoms in a dog not a person

Good kids can show their emotions too.
Also that is a field bred labrador. Insane amount of energy. A different world compared to the shownline lab (that is usually used as guide dogs)

The biggest issue is the husband and most husbands aren’t like that.
If people cannot train a dog, then they shouldn't have a dog.

It really shows how awesome Victoria is.😊
The fact that the kid doesn't want to play with Indiana and the dad picks the kid up and forces him is horrible
Being a first-time lab owner, I will say that it's a whole different experience than any other dog I've had.
Balanced training is teaching the dog the behavior you want using positive techniques and then using a combination of praise and correction after they understand the behavior.
if only people would understand beyond that silly square.
And you can't always give treats as labs put weight on easily
I'm glad Victoria could work with the husband.i was shocked at how little this man realized about indiana.there are still people who think that an animal or a child will grow out of bad behavior

Generally pets from petstores are puppy mill or backyard breeder dogs
@@Nibs08 It really is heart-breaking that so many pet stores are still selling puppies from puppy mills or backyard breeders, isn't it. Getting all their papers and being able to actually talk to the breeder is what people need to think of when they walk in a store and see that cute puppy's face.
I have an 8 month old pup from a pet store but I must've asked over a hundred questions and made sure I had her papers before deciding to bring her home. She's my best friend and a literal dream come true.
Actually within a short timeframe of Victoria's visit, they both actioned her directives and showed that they genuinely cared for the dog.
So nice to see the improvement..
Changes in Indiana...God bless the family
The dog is chaotic because the household is chaotic
The big brother is such a handsome boy. Hopefully he doesn't get overseen.
But a lovely family. Loving parents who care
Litterally go to the beach, take a break … take a KitKat 😂
I love how Victoria had 3 kit Kats 😂 she saved one for the camera guy❤ she's the sweetest woman 👠 & a classy one at that 😍
I also have a field-type lab with high prey drive. The best thing we did for him was impulse control, and obedience training and he excels at scent work! It gave him something to focus on and it made a world of difference in his attitude and confidence.
Something tells me they would let go of the treats or toys when he would come at them open-mouthed. He taught them to let go of the treats so he wouldn't have to earn them.
More like classic laziness and ignorance regarding dogs in general. Thankfully, pet owners like this are rare🙄. If only....
i am so happy for indie and the family, they look so happy now together ❤
Indy is a great dog. Just a little effort and time and he is a spot on easily trained.
