Opinion update: as nostalgic as the fish gill look is to me, the original 551 look is starting to make me drool. Especially with the 14 inch barrel, the thing looks gorgeous. "SG 551 swat" i think the model is called.
You are in a very interesting spot with this gun, nice review.... The first thing is the 1st gen fish-Gill 556 alone is becoming very rare and increasing in value the truth is most of the swiss 55X owners don’t really shoot the guns that much and sit in a dark safe which is a shame but to be honest the 551 is not that much better of a gun the difference will definitely be in the barrels and chances are your 556 has a lot of Swiss parts in it Already being a gen 1 import... I believe what you have is a very good representation minus the diopters and a gun you can enjoy and shoot. As much as I love my 55X rifles I’m going to be honest and say my SR 15 would run circles around my 551 or 550 however most are not buying these “Swiss” 55X to be high-speed low drag they kind of represent the Rolex submariner of the gun world...attention to detail, Build quality, precision barrels and accuracy but like on mechanical things in life they have their faults. I would imagine that lower cost about 1700 or $1800 alone Also that flash hider is a pretty good representation of the 550/551 as is. I think it is sigsauer Inc. that has the look-alike flash hider like the 551.

I wanted to buy a 553 but even with le, pretty much impossible for me in this state. Again, I appreciate all the information! Thanks!
I just got a sig scm and I had grand plans of modifying it with better handguards and a threaded barrel. I quickly have realized it will cost a fortune to add anything aftermarket
Agreed. I was thinking about making a sig style stock that is 3d printed. That way you don’t have to spend more than the gun is worth to get the sig look. I still have to take mine to the range. Been busy with a m53 semi auto build. Thanks!
Hold on to the airsoft. If [insert anti-gun politician here] ever comes for your guns, you can give them that. They won't know the difference. Just tell them it has the shoulder thing that goes up........
That was great! I’d imagine that you could have just bought a 55x from jdi for slightly more but I’m diggin the ingenuity. If it shoots anything like my pe90 you won’t be disappointed. Great video!

I’ve been drooling at the jdi ones that Mishaco has up on gunbroker currently. I think I spent around 3grand to get mine to be clone-ish. 553LB is a great pickup!

@@davidtofast8351 it has a weird straight down stamped pistol grip mount. I have never seen a different grip offered. Except for the aluminum lower sig 556. Manticore made something at one point but I believe it’s different than the sig sg series stamped lower. Good luck!
@@JaredWalsh good deal. i just picked one up for around 900 bucks. added a new alum quad rail, plus i got rid of the stock and added a new folding midwest industries stock on it. looks 10 times better.
Been working on building a lot lately. Haven’t been showing any of the builds. I took it to the range and wasn’t impressed but I was told I needed to adjust the trigger. I should get back in a couple months, thanks
Yeah 200-250 is about what I’m seeing. It’s even more for a stock. I have a A1 style fixed buttstock that’s insanely ugly. Let me know if you get a 3D printed set ever made! Lol. Keep up the good work with the vids man!!!
The lower was about $1000 from Gatew00d supply. Stock was around $400 on gunbr0k3r auction. Stock latch assembly was around $80 on an auction. Pins were maybe $40 from gatew00d. Totally worth it to just try to buy a JDI import instead. Thanks

It looks like they wrote parts and options on pieces of paper and drew them out of a hat to design that.
