We bought an aluminum gooseneck cattle trailer and the wiring was a joke. Single wires with scotch lock connectors no heat shrink anywhere. I’d guess that torque tube on your trailer was probably a piece of repurposed drill steel
Great video J.C.Smith really enjoy watching you prep a trailer for use and fixing everything that doesn't work. Looking forward to your next video safe travels J.C.Smith.
I understand the frustration for sure ! purchased a new 2024 trailer and the dealer took it around back to prep it for the sale, and was supposed to go over the entire trailer . Before i reached to the garage the bearings were to tight had to re adjust them and one of the leaf hanger bolts was not tight! I called the dealer and was explaining this and they basically said goodbye and hung up. so yes i can agree texas built trailers are a joke! I couldnt agree more with you!
I can’t believe that trailer had so much rust only being a year old. Are you sure it isn’t a 2013 instead of a 2023? I have a Load Trail trailer and the quality is pretty good. It’s built well and they do a good job with primer and paint.
I'm not sure if they make goose neck trailers, but they make stout pintle hitch trailers. Hudson Brothers mfg in Indian Trail, NC. I have a 12K 1985 Hudson trailer that I had to replace the electric brake assemblies, one pair had the wires broken near the magnets and the other had worn out brake shoes from rusted parts. my dad and I have had this trailer for 15 years and it has served us well. tires, wheel bearings, rv plug, and the breakaway battery only other parts to date.
Settle JC. You’re getting worked there old mate. You know better than all that if you want it done right then do it yourself. I’m having a laugh watching you get worked up. You will fix it as always. Good man good job! Hello Mrs JC. CHEERS N BEERS.
PJ trailers, have been poorly constructed, for years. I bought one from a friend of mine, that was only 6 months old, and used only a handful of times, to haul his Jeep. I used it for less than a month, before my first issue with it. I had a few welds crack, one of the tires decided to separate, at highway speed. When I looked at the tire, they were only passenger car tires, not a trailer tire, or even an LT. After replacing all of them, with the proper tires, half the lights stopped working. The trailer started out as a 20 foot flat bed, car hauler. I put a Chevy pickup on it, and hauled less than 3 miles, and in that time, it bent the frame, and it’s now a dovetail. I will never purchase another PJ trailer. They are junk! Keep up the good work JC.
Mr JC the biggest reason that I tune into your channel is your product honesty no matter what the build is unfortunately over the generations despite all those who use the sop line of all are jobs on both sides of our Boarders mine being in Hamilton Ontario Canada and yours being in the north side of the us have all gone too China and Mexico and the quality of products we receive in return the line gets old when the products coming out of are factory pass quality as this trailer and so many projects you take on
if i can produce something that will last my buyer for years to come, big corporations can too. they just choose not to. there is no way that this trailer was inspected at completion and all these issues were "missed". this was "acceptable" to the manufacture. that right there shows what they are willing to pass off as "their best".
Hope ya didn't give much for that rusty trailer and with all the things that were wore out. I've never seen a trailer that looked that bad and only a year old but I don't have trailers that were not painted completely and pulled on roads that gets salted in the winter time. I live in Texas and know dealers that sell them in my area. I now know why they are not as expensive as the bigger brands that are built down here also.
Wait... That trailer is A YEAR OLD? You sure you didn't get taken for a ride by the previous owner on the model year? I'm from your part of the world and I've seen stuff that is 20 years, and was cheap when it was new, that doesn't look that bad. Even the wood looks old.
Looks closer to 10 years old at best. What horrible quality. I have a tool that can crimp those connectors without damaging the heat shrink. Seem work ok. Honestly that trailer looks more like some shade tree mechanic hacked it together
Those manufacturers don't build that small of trailer. Diamond C is the premier trailer builder for this size trailer. For the features JC wants, it would be more cost effective for JC to build what he wants. Diamond C would build one how he specifies it, but would cost a pile of money.
Davis industries in Iowa makes a rgn gooseneck for a pickup. Butt i would prefer a diamond c stepdeck shorty for my dodge 5500 just can't justify the price for it
Buys trailer from tx manufacturer take it north, doesn’t rust proof, wash, keep up on basic maintenance like paint. Complains about rust. Wiring is a joke on any trailer, no excuse but the overall conditions on you. Been watching channel for a while. Don’t always agree; however, have learned some things. Y’all be blessed
As I said in the video, I bought it used. I didn't buy it in Texas. It was only used for a few mo ths by the previous owner. There is no need to undercoat a trailer with a mediocre paint job. No one rust proofs a trailer here. Even the El cheapo junk has paint that lasts longer.
Holy cow…! That’s a 2023 trailer…? Crazy…!

when I do trailers I always run a ground wire all the way up. stops so many headaches

Hope have a safe trip. Hope you have a good road trip.
It is good to see Jeff. Nice job on the trailer.
That’s rough for a 2023!
Breakdown at the wrong time.Especially on a trip.Never fails
Thx J.C & Mrs. Smith

im tired of fixing inferior products. it gets old.
Some trailer manufacturers paint over mill scale .

Good job!!! Sorry for the problems you had to endure. Who made the trailer you were working on?
I got my shots lined up
waiting to hear it.. "RUST JACKING"
what happened to those grommets?

at 5:32 I didn't know that rubber could rust.
Business Opportunity !!!
J.C. SMITH Trailers …… “Built for the Long Haul” ……..
wouldnt be very profitable. take me forever to build. it would be too heavy and the price would be more than any other trailer made.
It's sad how poor the quality is on a trailer that expensive 😕
All that stock wiring is terrible. See if they will ship you a new harness or do a complete rewire.
To be continued?? Seriously😂
Glad you didn't take the dog and the wife with you
Wassup
Waiting from the usual gooners to pop up saying “but them engineers at the makers know better than you !”

well, it didnt look this bad 9 months ago when i bought it.

i bought it when it was just a few months old. it has been sitting at one of my other properties for over 9 months. this should still look fairly new.
@@j.c.smithprojects That is completely bonkers. That badly pitted up tube under it is just unforgivable.
Wow for a 2023 that trailers in bad shape
Looks closer to 10 years old at best. What horrible quality. I have a tool that can crimp those connectors without damaging the heat shrink. Seem work ok.

You didn’t tell us where you’re going and why you’re going there.
All trailer wiring is junk anymore! Scotch locks everywhere! Grounds no good! Wires too small!
🎉Safe travels 🎉
Slap it together and send it quality. It's just going to get worse.
Only positive I can see about that trailer is at least there’s no scotch locks on the wiring
There inspectors used to work at Boeing.
Man it's time to step up buy Talbert or trail king or Rodgers that tiny diy homeowner stuff is why you have the problems like that
Disappointed in workshop pride bet it cost way to much to boot
well if they made gooseneck trailers i guess i would.....dont see my one ton pulling an rgn or lowboy

so here is how it begins.....cant afford the quality i want. cant stand the quality i can afford. build it myself and have both.
2023 and it's that rotted out already!?!?!? That's pathetic at best!
Rusted and rotted aren’t the same lol

Trailer should be fit for use anywhere from the word go, & this one is only 1 year old, surely even Texans venture North once in a while.
Have to be worst video that you have produced so far normally they are excellent but this one nice pictures of grass and gravel 🎉😢😢😢
im really in the wrong mood to respond. so......bless your heart.
JC please check out sur trac trailers. Have noting but good to say about my new dump trailer
i have experience with them. built by "novae". i will pass.
