I just did a quick google search on the defendant.
If the defendant is the same Jacob Bunt that I found online (and I'm about 85% sure that it is, based on name, approximate age, location and that the district court in the Zoom meeting matches up with the information found online), then it would appear that Jacob got himself into some pretty huge trouble, and was VERY LUCKY to have not faced time behind bars. (It may not have gone well for him behind bars, due to the nature of the charges; again, if this is the same guy.)
Having dodged a major legal bullet, it would have been made abundantly clear to Jacob that he needed to report to probation, in addition to everything else. He didn't do what he was supposed to, so now he needs to face the consequences.
Considering the possible nature of the crimes, I have ZERO sympathy for him.

That's so funny. That has worked for me once in my life- and it was a big one involving probation and possible jail time. I was 19 in 1993. My buddy and I were selling a little weed, maybe a QP a week at most - just to our friends mostly. One guy, who was a friend of a friend of a friend, bought from us, got busted, and rolled over on us. We were caught. I received 2 years of probation, fines and community service. I couldn't/wouldn't stop smoking, so I skipped a probation appt, and it snowballed. Furthermore, I moved out of town (in-state) and years went by, knowing as soon as I come across a cop, I'm done. It turns out my dad knew someone high up in the parole division who randomly saw my name on a list of warrants. He called my dad and said, 'I'll take care of it.' End of story. Completely erased from my record, even. It was a felony charge, too.

It calms his anxiety and he has PTSD from the military, and really didn't want to take the antidepressants that the VA loves to hand out like candy. Anyway, he knows all the local cops, so they took care of him and even the jail folks treated him well. The judge handled it pretty good on Monday--gave him six months of probation, had him do an AA or NA meeting a week and UI's once a month. He supervised the trash pickup by prisoners as part of his "community service" and mowed the lawns and other yardwork at the courthouse, which he said was fine because he loves working outdoors. Anyway, it was finally legalized while he completing all this. Ironic, but now he's got his card and nobody bothers him.

I’m not sure 1-100 I mean he was looking pretty emotional through the process. He looked like he was going to cry many times, and when he started talking over the judge at first that what is it sounded like, then it ramped up. It was quick, yes. He has major emotional control issues that I agree with and he needs some major work to help him be a productive person. I guess I’ve spent too much time watching people and can see the warning signs of an unstable emotional state. The dead stare, slight frown, wavy lower lip, puffy eyes, and maybe a few tears. These are good things to watch out for and things he showed.

Additionally, what some people dont know is, when you attend boot camp, basic training, etc that gives college credits, some field in the military, upon completion of the school, give college credits which shortens the amount of time you spend in college to obtain your degree. That's pretty much exactly how I could tell, with my own case, whether the judge I had was going to be lenient or a stickler. The courtroom upon entering, had a relaxed type vibe and his tone was albeit a commanding type, presence wise, but still mild and at times a bit lightheaded/humorous. I got let off with simply an extended probation term for another two years to still work at the current railroad and position I have with them, while raising two, soon to be 3 young ones with my husband. I don't know all the details with this fella and his mental illness, but likely for me, as I informed them and my PD, it was still looked upon as absconding but my reason for leaving Maryland, at one point, was to flee from that of my abusive mother; years prior because of and up to now, I have been long struggling and hospitalized numerous times for PTSD. As long as he would've told his PO and his PD, along with the med records, they probably would've done him the same.

Did he really think that attaining his GED was going to somehow outweigh absconding from probation for 2 years??!! That's not a minor violation, and the fact that he has made strides in improving himself in the meantime just proves that he was totally capable of following this requirement, but instead chose not to. On a side note, his voice reminds me of the mother in Carrie, "They're all going to laugh at you!"

I think he probably sees the probation dept as adversarial. With a good strong dallop of "I don't want to face what I've done". But the end reveals the real trouble: He has serious emotional/impulse issues, and they clearly haven't been addressed. He may be bettering himself, but he's doing it as a ticking time bomb that will probably go off when he blows a mid term.

TRAVERSE CITY - A man faces up to 15 years in prison after he was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy. The boy told authorities he and Bunt began exchanging text and Facebook messages in the summer of 2017. Bunt later met the boy in Traverse City where the pair had sex, documents state. And he had more charges and criminal acts after. The court system in America is just disgusting. Wow probation for grooming and child rape.
