    I’m very glad you did under 100pf. The trend for “best budget” always lands a a higher proof as the “best” (which makes sense). Good to see bottles in the 80s get their shot in a blind.

    • @rangeradams
      @rangeradams 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the higher proof will come out on top most of the time because of concentrated flavors, and since this is all relative, most likely will beat everything out even if it has flaws.

      I would estimate that more than half of the comparisons I've seen end up with Wild Turkey 101 at the top.

    I think Evan Williams BiB is the best sub $20 in the market. I get that 100 proof might be little high for some, but honestly, if you going to add ice, It doesn't matter. In general, BT, Wil Turkey 101, and EW BiB will be my top 3 under $25

    Not so sure I like the 99 proof rule, but I get it. I know it was mentioned, but Evan Williams White Label, Old Tub, WT101, and Fighting Cock can be found under $20 and would likely beat any of these. Head-to-head with each other, the proof wouldn’t dominate as they’re all 100+ proof.

  • @BradWilson1969
    @BradWilson1969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They can call it whatever they want, but Jack Daniels is a Bourbon. The fact that it meets the more specific requirements to be Tennessee Whiskey doesn't change the fact that it's also a Bourbon.

  • @Thetache

    Fair play to you boys being honest and proving once again the value of marketing wank and branding power, to influence people to think their products taste totally different than the spiel. Dillon the king of desk banging "High proof" macho bourbon picking the most popular soft sweet "girls" whisky made me smile the most.

    You need to have one more person than the number of samples to ensure that you clearly pick a winner. I love these videos - you guys have no problem putting your views out for all to see = I respect that. I will have to pick up some minis and give this blind tasting a try. I would have preferred that you did the 100 proof versions as I have WT 101 and Evan Williams BiB on the bar. Keep up the great work, though it looks like you need to spend more time tasting under $20 whiskeys.

  • @onggia850
    @onggia850 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    JD is a bourbon. Maple charcoal filtering before entering the barrel (Lincoln County Process) is technically a removal process so yes it meets all the requirements for a bourbon. But it's thier's so they can call it whatever they want.

      What makes it more confusing is that they federally label it as a bourbon, which I assume they'd argue they had no other choice. I agree though about respecting what they want it to be called.

    Dont drink until you have 3-5 more dollars for WT101 lol. Or find it on sale somewhere. Jack is legitimately gross to me, Jim and Evan not horrible, but not good either.

    • @rangeradams
      @rangeradams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should try Jack blind with low proof offerings. It may surprise you. I think there is an inherent bias in most of us who drink non filtered bourbon.

    • @redinthesky1
      @redinthesky1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a little blind not too long ago between Black Label Jack, Dickel 8 and Evan Williams. The Dickel won by a long shot. I normally like the 12 pretty well, but it seemed like someone slipped up and the 8 got some super good juice in it.

  • @andyhopton

    Just done my blind,
    1. Jack Daniels
    2. Evan Williams
    3. Wild Turkey
    4. Jim Beam
    Not suprising as I grew up in England drinking JD at Rock venues
    BTW JD is Bourbon identifying as Tennessee Whiskey

    Jim Beam makes some good whiskey. Just have to know what you like and what bottles hold those flavor profiles. I personally like the Bib thought the Old Tub version is very complex and an easy drinker. I'm probably on bottle 4 or 5 of Old Tub.

    I love me some Jack and just don't buy any of these other brands. That said, I wonder if the JD critics realize other brands charcoal mellow their product? Also, if this is a purity debate, then how does one justify all the barrel finishing that is taking place? Do people believe a bourbon has to be nothing more than the virgin juice aged in new charred oak? Props on the BTTF font for part II :-)
