Matt, my new favorite under $20 is the Very Old Bartons 90 proof at $27 for a big 1dot75 handle. That's under $12 for 750 ml. Only thing missing is that cork POP. CHEERS!!

I just bought my first bottle of Fighting Cock today after reading rave reviews of it being a decent bourbon for the price. I'm currently drinking it as I watch this video. The nose is a bit harsh and jabby. As I sip it, I'm getting uppercuts of sweet cinnamon and nail polish remover on the palate. As for the finish, the harshness and astringency really knocks me out and lingers with a hint of fertilizer as I try to regain my composure for another dreadful round. I'm still a Bourbon newb, and am only familiar with Turkey 101, Bulleit Rye, Buffalo Trace, Henry Mckenna and Evan Williams Bib. I must say, Fighting Cock is the worst of the bunch by a decent margin. Evan Williams' White Label has been my go to drink since I took up Bourbon drinking full time at the start of the COVID lock down, and I decided to give another sub $20 whiskey a try. NEVER AGAIN!
so in my blind tests fighting cock beat six and twenty five grain and it beat Early times BiB in blind head to head, it it wasn't even close on the Early Times. It even beat Buffalo Trace! I can't believe this is a $17 bottle! And my son graduated from South Carolina (the gamecocks) so I bought him a bottle! Fighting Cock lost to Russell Reserve 10 year, but that is a $17 versus a $40, so not fair. 3 wins, 1 loss. Totally surprised.
A good friend of mine set his dumb ass on fire drinking this stuff. I’ve been scared of it since. We were kids and drinking as irresponsible as possible.

I've only had the 100 proof and was underwhelmed. Heard good things about the 90 proof though!
