Is the the 2019 Toyota Camry V6 the BEST family sedan?

  • The Camry received a MAJOR redesign year ago to really sharpen it's look. Under the hood is that tried and true 3.5L V6 producing 301 HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. To match it's new exterior there is a totally updated interior. It features both great styling and all of the safety features and tech you could want. Is the 2019 Toyota Camry the king of the family sedans?

    drove both
-Accord Touring 2.0t no brand "premium" sound system is AWFUL, the Camry XSE v6's JBL sound system is amazing
-Accord Touring 2.0t has more road noise, and is more firm. You definitely feel every bump on the road. The Camry is peaceful to be inside, and so comfortable to drive in, and you "float" over the bumps
-Accord Touring 2.0t IS FASTER off the line, from 0-30mph. Camry XSE V6 30-90mph or above you feel the the 301 horsepower kick in
    - Accord Touring sounds like: well, a 4 cylinder. Groany and whimpering. Camry is almost silent at low speeds (almost hybrid like), but once you go over 3-3500 rpm that V6 sophisticated roar is intoxicating.
    - Accord Touring 2.0t has much better steering no doubt. It's the more athletic when making sharp turns. The Camry seems to understeer because of the nose-heavy V6.
although they seem to have corrected this with the Camry TRD version, I'd still choose the regular XSE V6 - as I'd like to have the red leather and JBL sound system, and panoramic sunroof. the Camry TRD although has many handling and performance upgrades, its still an SE without red leather,JBL sound system, and panoramic sunroof.

I’d easily take this over the accord. As much as the accord is a hare quicker and the slightest sportier, the v6 refinement of the Camry can’t be touched by the accord turbo.

I have this same Camry in Blue. I’m telling you this V6 is a great engine. Has plenty of power and when it comes to passing on the highway it’s great at it. I test drove a 4cyl before I bought the 6 and it was garbage imo. Shifted all funky, made too much noise and had more vibration than the 6. If anyone is gonna get the XSE I recommend spending the extra and get the V6.

12:20 That’s exactly the issue. When people hear V6, their gut and 3 decades of marketing tells you “Wow they saved up and splurged for a faster more powerful model!” Without stopping to think that bigger end doesn’t always mean faster in the modern era. In the 90’s many NA V6’s barely made 190 hp but nowadays in 2019 we have I4’s with Turbos making 300 to 350 wheel horsepower easily stock from the factory.

Great review! Love how you bring up a lot of the details that many people overlook. A few questions: 1) USB Type A or Type C? The 2019 330i has both but cars usually have either or. 2) Have you tried squishing the top corners of the front seats? It’s where the top of the seat meets the headrest. I’ve found that Toyota cheaps out greatly in this area. It’s like there’s no stuffing in this area but a hollow shell. Lexus has better seat stuffing. 3) Try pushing down on the plastic bezel below the gauge cluster. I don’t think Toyota has this problem but Mazda uses a very cheap rubbery bezel that’s not sturdy at all. 4) Painted or covered door frames as seen from the inside. If you’re sitting inside and you can see the body color of the A-, B-, or C-pillar or the door frame that should be a zonk. The Accord has exposed door frames. Try looking at the 2019 330i - they have exposed door frames at the bottom that look totally cheap. And 5) I think you should mention the paint colors of the Toyota because apparently anything non metallic is single stage paint. So you can get a Super White Toyota Camry SE and it won’t come with any clear coat. At ~$30K that’s a major zonk.

Also I think you should point out when trunks that have gooseneck hinges are exposed or covered. Pretty obvious but some exposed gooseneck hinges are recessed or partially enclosed, some are totally exposed but have a circular travel that won’t crush cargo, while still others are fully exposed but are angled in such a way that they come down and crush cargo as the trunk lowers in the closing position. Crushed a few boxes unknowingly! I hate how manufacturers moved away from the compact hydraulic strut design that nearly all Audi’s at one point had.

Joe beautiful entertaining review as always! My thoughts on redesigned Camry:
When I saw the commercial for the all new Camry 2018 SE trim, I said "that's a Camry?" They without a doubt put the r in redesign and p for performance. Glad we have these companies still pushing out the sedans and coupes definitely need to keep them on the market when you have innovation still packing space like the Camry here. Not a Toyota fan but when I saw the new Camry especially XSE trim I said "give me". I'm guessing you'd pick the Accord over Camry since Honda does go the extra mile to preserve manuals and give that option which in all honesty yanks me over to Honda but I'll walk right back to Toyota for that naturally aspirated V6.

I mean they should offer something special for Camry TRD specifically since the Camry basically says Toyota. Wess Reiley they already did. Even this year they’re beating them in sales. And no it’s not fleet sales. They have incentives and deals. Honda doesn’t have that. They wanna sell you the Accord for over 25k and expect you to pay every dollar. Only a sucker pays full price for cars and Honda should know this. They’re too busy trying to be a sports car and picking and choosing who they want to buy their cars. A sale is a sale whether it’s from John Doe or Enterprise Rental. This is a business and businesses have to make money to continue. This is why Toyota is worth 211 billion and Honda is worth 42.

I was just thinking...sometimes when you give cubic feet for the cargo area of an SUV (or trunk space if it's a small car), it's hard for me to visualize how I can transport something large, like say a 65", 75", or 85" HDTV, in that space because it's given in cubic feet and not in width x length. Have you thought about either giving some verbal idea of how specific cargo like an HDTV would fit in a specific SUV's? Or better yet, have an empty box of a large item like an HDTV to demo the spaciousness of a given SUV? I think it would give added value to a potential purchaser, like myself, that plan on hauling large electronic items. Your thoughts?

Additionally, three under-car braces have been beefed up Revised suspension features firmer coil springs and dampers and beefier anti-roll bars, The dampers also gain internal rebound springs, and there are new jounce bumpers to preserve some semblance of ride quality. The setup lowers the ride height by 0.6 inches Toyota’s Active Cornering Assist, which can brake an inside wheel in turns, is employed here and is exclusive to the TRD not to mention summer tires and it still can't handle as good as a stock appearance package sport accord.

    @jjacob25101 5 ปีที่แล้ว

For this price range under $40K, this would be my choice of daily driver in XSE trim with the option package that has all the goodies, with a panoramic sunroof deleted if I could, preferably two tone blue, but this pearlescent white is nice, too. The fake rear vent at the rear fender taillights could go, the body line without it is lined up with the taillight design..
The TRD performance package has no comparison, but I mentioned what I didn't like that is a deal killer, especially the ugly striped seat pattern.
If I could get the TRD wheels, suspension, body kit, and exhastvwithout the rear brace, so I could fold down the rear seats in an XSE trim, that would be great. But a regular loaded production XSE is always easier to replace. There are minor zonks, like cateye projector fog lights in the front fascia air vents would be nice.
I originally wanted a blue Honda Accord 2.0L, but the turbo has more upkeep and reliability problems. The Accord has a better auto transmission, and available 6 speed, and adaptive suspension, but I feel the TRD has it beat with their suspension even if fixed, brakes, and exhaust.
The Accord has Android Auto, but all 2020 Camry models have Android Auto, it has a CD player with auxiliary audio input jack and wireless charger standard in the XSE, and an 800 watt JBL stereo with the option package, as opposed to the non branded 540 watt top Honda sound system without the CD player, wireless charging standard, and auxiliary auto input jack. The rear seat USB jacks can be added as an accessory. It should be standed, at least with the XSE option package, but people would probably rarely ride with me, especially in the back to need it. Besides, the Walmart Onn 6700 mAh portable USB batteries are only $10, charge fast and are reliable and durable. I could have 2 of those, and 2 sets of all 3 USB charging cables in the console storage for that.
And I prefer to keep my wheels, thank you. Lol
If you put those stolen wheels on anything other than this same model Accord, itbwould fall under intense scrutiny and suspicion.
Anywho, a few of the factory options, including the rear blackout emblems, unless it's a black one, with Batmobile grille emblem over the Toyota badge .
You can't lose now either fully loaded Camry XSE, Honda Accord Sport, Camry XSE, and 2020 Honda Civic Sport Sedan, Hatchback/Touring, or Si for the price, if you are okay with the options and equipment for each particular vehicle. A Honda HR-V Sport with a 160 HP 2.0L would be nice.
Both brands, especially specific models like the Civic, Accord, Corolla, Camry, Tacoma, 4Runner, Suenna have a long standing history of longevity, durability and reliability. To me, Honda generally has an edge in performance, with more aftermarket tuning and modification options, but Toyotas seem to me to be more structurally solidly built. I still think GMs larger sedans and trucks, as well as Ford are even more solidly built, but GM running gear reliability is very iffy and problematic now.
So yeah, for the price range, definitely a loaded Camry XSE in either engine. But with that car sharing program here, I could drive a Camry XSE when I want, as well as a Lexus SUV, Prius/Prime, Tacoma, or Sienna when I want or need it.
I am almost certain I would get a 2020 Civic Sport Sedan, even with 6 Speed if I could find one, or HR-V Sport as a daily driver with that rental option available to me. But if I could, and wanted more performance, and maybe hop up my ride a bit, I may be tempted to opt for a blue 2020 Si sedan. It would just be ideal if the Civic had CD players, and the HR-V Sport, too, as the old one had it available, and the space on top of the new radio where it was is still there.
Now, if only the Acura ILX A-spec, and some of the other vehicles were available on that car share program.

I still would get it, maybe even over the Camry XSE at that price.

It said it didn’t have the navigation app, perhaps it’s installed once you buy the car so that you have the latest map loaded onto the system.

Luis Castillo FYI your not gonna pay MSRP unless your negotiating skills are subpar. Navigation is a 995 option.

8:25 the Nissan Altima has a good feeling flat bottom steering wheel, probably the best in the segment right now!

I would rather have the TRD Camry and by the way OJ said the glove didn’t fit.😂

Joe, great review ! The Camry is very similar to my 2013 Lexus ES350, think Toyota is still using the Same chassis platform ? Trunk space is about 16 cubic feet, but my rear seats don’t fold down ! Makes no sense why Lexus did this ?! I have a small “ski pass thru” compartment, what a freaking joke. I’m 55 and Ive had 20 cars since I’m 17 years old (i keep a note on my iPhone of all the cars I’ve owned, kinda anal but i like to keep my memories of them) which includes 3 wagons (1 VW Passat and 2 Volvo’s, 240 & 850 turbo) and 1 SUV BMW X5 and to not have a 60/40 fold down rear seat kinda sucks !
But i love my Lexus ES350 for so many reasons, High dependability, its solid like a tank and quiet like a vault !! Love this Camry in it XSE trim level...

To be honest speed doesn't matter much, you can have a lot fun accelerating here nd there but it is against the law. I think the accord loss the battle here becuase now I see 2018 or 19 camry more the than accord everywhere, in Boston where I live.
