The Accord's ability after 4 years to still consistently be one of the quickest family sedans while also being the most balanced overall is very impressive.
The Honda's detuned version of the Civic Type R's engine and its excellent 10 speed transmission are truly impressive. But the new 2.5L turbo in the Korean vehicles and their much improved DCT may well be tweaked to improve its performance in upcoming versions. As for Toyota, the Camry's somewhat old-in-the-tooth naturally aspirated V6 won't shine in this kind of comparison. Of course, Toyota could turbocharge that engine to improve the Camry's performance but that would risk putting a dent (even a minor one) in Toyota's reputation for reliability. And that's something that Toyota is very unlikely to risk.

@@bradleyscarreviews that's why I think they're ugly, they try making them "exotic" looking but in my opinion they're ugly. I don't like kia or Hyundai cars tbh
Personally Sam, I prefer roll races on FWD cars because some much goes into launching that it really doesn’t show the cars full potential. I still feel the N line is much faster than the accord as shown in the rolling race. How do you feel?
I’ve heard the Camry pulls a lot of power to avoid wheel spin even with TC turned off which makes sense, the v6 puts out over 300hp on the dyno but by the looks of it gets limited
Dynos don’t mean a thing. One dyno can say 220 another dyno will spit out 270. 1/4 mile trap speed is the best indicator of power and a Camry is not trapping higher than an accord.
Torque is the more important metric here. The naturally aspirated 2GR isn't going to offer the kind of low-RPM torque the turbocharged engines will as these cars rack through gears. Remember, power is a measure of the work being done. It's mathematically derived. Torque is a measure of how hard it's turning, the force applied. HP = (RPM * lb-ft) / 5252. The torque the engine delivers depends on its RPM, and as RPM goes up so to ultimately does power. That engine is putting out way less than 300 HP for most of the time it spends accelerating because the engine isn't spinning fast enough to reach that point except at the very end of each gear before then immediately shifting down again. This sort of race is the domain of forced induction engines and electric motors.
Test the Accord with Hondata Stage 2, traction and launch control. The Accord is also notoriously quick off the line with a handbrake launch (Brake Hold).
It would be nice to see a race where all three vehicles have aftermarket tunes. Honda has the least HP but probably some of the best tunability of the three vehicles.
Great races! Exactly what I wanted to see. Still trying to negotiate with Kia dealers regarding a new K5 GT as opposed to the GT1 which is about $5K more at close to $37K. The Hyundai sales people were annoying me. Accord is a great car, don't get me wrong, but these are the shiny new objects at the moment. I would not be surprised if Honda and Toyota are watching these and maybe taking some notes for the next generation models coming down the Pike. You are really the only one that is actually comparing all of these cars head to head. I guess Throttlehouse but they never figured out how to launch it correctly, not to mention the sub-zero conditions and a brand new car.
@@SamCarLegion So, I did not get the K5 GT. Instead, yesterday I traded my 18 Accord Sport 2.0 for the Sonata Nline. So far, it is fantastic so hopefully that will continue. One thing is definite, the driver assist cruise control is significantly better. The Sonata N-Line use an Dual-Clutch Transmission, the computar doesn't let you do that because you can damage the clutch. Instead, the car has an launch control system that help you with that. It's true that the Sonata doesn't launch that well, too much power to the front tires, it's an aggressive engine after all. But, thank you anyways to show what Hyundao can do today.
The launch control worked only twice properly then it said system fail probably to protect the engine and transmission. Kia K5 cares very little lol just goes
@@SamCarLegion I actually saw the K5 you guys run, and I can see that the K5 put the power to the ground more efficiently. Like you said, is not the first time that tje launch control fail in testing, sometimes doesn't put the power to the wheel at all. But, we can say at the end that the Sonata N-Line and Kia K5 are making history for the brand. The performances almost go equal to that of the Veloster N and Civic Type R.
@@Hondaddy yea and the type R has an LSD. These have open diffs, the point being they have too much power for their configuration because it doesn't get to the road effectively off the line
I own a 2021 sonata nline. It doesn't hard launch very well at all. It does better with a gentle roll on the throttle. Sometimes less is more. This is a car you really have to know how to launch or you just get spinning and wheel hop. Also summer tires make a big difference the all seasons suck can't get any traction.
Hyundai needs to do something about the two different lines because it makes no sense. If they added a louder exhaust and more sporty detailing you literally could call this Sonata an N. I did read the other day that Hyundai was thinking about dropping the "N" in the future and moving everything to "N line" in terms of branding, but who knows.
Sam, I'm the owner of the Honda ACCORD in Korea. Always enjoy your video. It's true that ACCORD isn't as fast as a sports car or a supercar, but I'm sure it's one of the fastest family sedan in the world.
Embarrassing for Toyota! It may be a faster Looking car but that V6 has no power at all! So sad because I love Toyota.😢 The Toyota will probably last longer though.😎👍
But Camry is most reliable. Good working horse. If you guys want fast Camry you can go with Lexus GSF. Of course it’s not fastest in its class but still fun to drive. NA V 8 and sounds great. Natural V 8 sound can’t be compared with v6 turbo.
Rent a sonata n line or ask someone and see for yourself. That car hates launches. Not the driver, the car is terrible at launch. Had no problem with the K5. The first 2 launches it does well. Then it says “go to hell” lol
@@SamCarLegion Sonata owner. (Not n line) can confirm the car does hate launches. It's the dct engine. Some times the clutch will catch right away, some times it's delayed. According to Hyundai the way to launch their dct engine cars is to hold both the brake and gas down at the same time for like 3 seconds then release the brake. (Which is what he said at the end). Cannot confirm if doing that can cause it to successfully launch every time.
I owned 3 Lexus GS 350-430 300 Hp cars from 1999 - 2010. Great sedan, 5.3 sec 0-60. My 2020 Honda Accord 2.0 T is every bit as as fast, and handles as well or more. Shocking.
The 8 speed in the Camry really kills it, I think the older generation with the 6 speed is faster, the 8 speed just launches very slow and shifts very slow too
Honda clearly underrates the power numbers on the Accord. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s really not a detuned version of the Civic Type R’s engine. Anything is possible 🤷🏽♂️
The beginning of the end for V6 engines began some time ago. In this particular case the 2.5L turbo that Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis are offering in at least 7(!) different vehicles appears to be an especially strong win/win with more power and better fuel economy than comparable V6 versions.
No it's not the end for the v6 engine, if u look at the numbers the camry v6 gets just as good of fuel economy as the honda and that's what it's about. Besides toyota uses this v6 in other products.
@@mikeharris7261 I'm not arguing the value of a V6 engine. I'm talking about its market appeal. For example, less than 5% (!) of all Camrys are sold with its naturally aspirated V6. That's a major reason that Toyota doesn't offer AWD with that engine. The appeal of a V6 in a midsize sedan is simply not sufficient to justify the cost of design and production.

Could you tell if he used the launch control? Sounded like he didn't. Ive gotten the best launch at around 2200 to 2500. At 3k it mitigates the torque too much.
Yes the camry is slower but it's leading in sales and fuel economy is just as good as accord so it's achieving its mission. And i did see the Trd beat Mazda in drag so it's not the slowest.
I can respect Hyundai for what they can bring but I would still take the Honda due to their long term reputation like Toyota. Mu neighbor has a 2020 accord touring with a Hondata Stage 2 and that thing pulls!!
Lmao at the Camry. I literally had an XSE try to buck at me yesterday when I changed lanes (he tried to speed up and I have n N Line) and the same thing happened. Dude was left in the rearview mirror. Thanks for the video.

Sonata NLIne loose regardless who drives it. See "Throttle House" TH-cam channel since they ran the same cars against each other and the Sonata still got beat.
That roll race...why honk it when you are just rolling up to the same speed to set up for the actual roll race, and then you floor it without honking? Shouldn't you honk when you are all at the same speed and then floor it? It looked like the two other drivers were completely caught off guard. Either way, Camry is a dinosaur and while it's a decent car, it's just not competitive in this set. Toyota needs to either make a performance oriented hybrid powertrain or just finally give the people a competitive turbo 4. The V6 was a great engine 15 years ago.... The Accord may not have the highest HP numbers but it's the one I'd buy. Nline wins
Lol buddy aint no camry putting 300hp on a dyno, they are only 302 to the crank.
Test the Accord with Hondata Stage 2, traction and launch control. The Accord is also notoriously quick off the line with a handbrake launch (Brake Hold).
Interesting
It would be nice to see a race where all three vehicles have aftermarket tunes. Honda has the least HP but probably some of the best tunability of the three vehicles.
the Nline runs 12s with bolt ons and tune and already has a decent aftermarket selection. you don't want to see that lol the Accord will still lose
The N line is hell of a beast. Best car for tuning. This coming from someone who owned a accord 2.0T civic Si and Elantra N

This is a car you really have to know how to launch or you just get spinning and wheel hop. Also summer tires make a big difference the all seasons suck can't get any traction.
The "N Line" isn't an official "N", correct?
Yes it is not N
Hyundai needs to do something about the two different lines because it makes no sense. If they added a louder exhaust and more sporty detailing you literally could call this Sonata an N. The Kia K5 GT is definitely more consistent than the Sonata N Line! Good race overall. Is this the beginning of the end for V6 engines? 👀
The beginning of the end for V6 engines began some time ago. In this particular case the 2.5L turbo that Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis are offering in at least 7(!) different vehicles appears to be an especially strong win/win with more power and better fuel economy than comparable V6 versions.
Honda stop long ago
